all the photos i've seen of your little davy jones dude looks like he fell into joan rivers's wardrobe and had to quickly make the best of the outfit... kinda enthralled by his ryan ross-esque brown doe eyes............. <3
hello this is so real. tbh he was wearing just whatever back then but he always slayed. with his slightly feminine swagger. And his big brown eyes are soooo important i think of him as the physical embodiment of that one stickman drawing with the comically oversized sparkly brown eyes. he's like if an anime girl was a leettle boy from manchester.

My favourite thing about the Monkees is that whenever you focus on Peter he’s always having a giggle. If he doesn’t have a line he’s just basically watching the show like one of us

obviously the best scene is bald Davy LMAO
Tumblr media
iconic + cunty + snatched your wig + I love bald people <3
another iconic scene I love is when the guys are singing deck the halls and Micky and Davy do that fruity "don we now our gay apparel"
Tumblr media
I loveee the jokes in monkees in texas so much I think that episode is stacked for some reason but my favorite one might be when Mike is talking to the assayer and he goes "its crude" and Mike goes "... well go ahead and tell me anyway" so dumb but it makes me laugh every time
this isnt part of the question but my favorite episodes in no particular order are monkees in texas, monkees in the ring, monstrous monkee mash, some like it lukewarm, i was a 99lb weakling, monkees a la carte, monkee chow mein, too many girls, and if i keep typing im going to list every episode lol

people i want to get to know better
Aw, @ace-turned-confused! Thank you for the tag!!!
last song: Pleasant Valley Sunday by The Monkees. I dunno, it got stuck in my head the other day and I haven't listened to it in years.
favourite colour: lemon yellow
currently watching: I started watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, while I'm cleaning or crafting, so I'm not way into it.
last movie: The Craft. Tis the season where horror films get played pretty much constantly in our house and I came home to find the SO watching it for the first time in his life and I was like how. How is this the first time. You are kidding me. And he was like, now I understand why girls who grew up in the 90s are all into witchy shit. And I'm like, listen. Witchy shit was cool before The Craft and waaaayyyyyy after it. You do not get to base your judgments on my choice of decor and orientation just because Faruzia Balk is a psychotic hotsauce. Witch Girl Autumn predated The Craft. The Craft was made BECAUSE of Witch Girl Autumn. Also, because Satanic Panic backlash and nth wave feminism and because it was written and directed and produced by men that wanted to "explore young female sexuality" like that wasn't a weird thing to say in your making of video, but that's another debate for another day. Oh, also, they cut out a lot of said sexuality to get a PG rating, but every cut they sent kept coming back PG13 and the director's like why and the review board (which always has a priest, a rabbi, and a minister on it like a damn joke) deemed it PG13 not for swears or boobies, but because it was about witches. So yeah.
current obsessions: Boiled egg on nine-grain bread with mustard dill sauce. Sibyls. The Chaldean Mysteries. Trying to beat off Acacius with a stick until November. Planning 2025 vacations. Halloween gear at Target, Michaels, Spirit Halloween, Marshalls. Sir Gortimer Donut von Doorhinge. Pedro Pascal's arms. Pedro Pascal's beard. Pedro Pascal's smile. Pedro Pascal's curls.
relationship status: LTR
last thing i googled: "how do I find my viewing history on Disney+" The answer is...you don't.

NORDEGRIM HEADCANONS
I need to get my many thoughts for them sorted out so here’s one big post for those many random thoughts!
- They are both very good listeners and will listen to the other talk for hours on end about their day and their interests
- Stacey and Neil will play video games together and almost always Neil will win much to Stacey’s chagrin. She will then proceed to throw the controller (it’s canon that she’s a sore loser w/ video games)
- Stacey’s the big spoon while Neil’s the little spoon (despite the fact that hes taller than her)
- Stacey does all of the talking. She will tell the cashier at McDonald’s that Neil asked for no pickles
- Neil fell first, Stacey fell harder*
- Stacey will steal some of Neil’s shirts. He doesn’t mind (though the comic panel one is iffy territory as that’s his favourite)
- I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, they will share bracelets and make their own together
- if they get married they DONT have kids. I just can’t see them having any (same goes for like every other SP character tbh)
-In their first year of uni, they shared a creative writing class. It was a big class so that’s why they didn’t know each other before volume 6 (despite being in the same room way before that)
- I imagine in SPTO Scott’s future (not the one we see where he didn’t change and was going through divorce) that old Stacey and old Neil are like newlyweds and are the most insufferable people to be around. After they get married they are in the honeymoon phase forever
- Stacey is a power bottom argue with my brick wall. She’s a bottom but Neil is even more of a bottom than her
-Neil works part time at an EB games near Second Cup so before they started dating he would stop by before his shift and get like a coffee and hope that Stacey would be there. After they started dating if their shift times line up they will commute to work together
- Stacey got Neil into her 60s rock music. He will randomly hum ‘I’m A Believer’ by The Monkees and get annoyed when some asks if that’s smashmouth he’s humming to (that song I mentioned is a nordegrim song to me)
- SPTO Neil turned Stacey into a cinephile so now they are both talking about the movie Crash
- DORKS IN LOVE IS THEIR CAPITAL D DYNAMIC
- they hold hands a lot :3
- they propose to each other at the same time
- Stacey has cold hands, Neil has warm hands
-they cuddle no matter how hot it is
* the trope of “A fell first, B fell harder” is misunderstood a lot. It doesn’t mean that B loves A more than A loves B, it means that A slowly fell in love with B while B had a moment with A that made them realize how much they loved A. That’s just how I’ve seen it described and I’ve been in fandoms where ppl have misunderstood the trope sm that I just wanted to make this fact as clear as I could.
And that it!
Feel free to share some of your own headcanons if you have any with me cause I would love to hear them! Make a comment on this post or send me an ask and I’ll do my best to answer them as fast as I can :]
Oh and also:

Hope you enjoyed my little headcanons!

363: R.E.M. // Murmur
Tumblr media
Murmur R.E.M. 1983, IRS
Some Short, Disconnected Statements on the Matter of Murmur
1. Insert the following into Waring blender
The Velvet Underground, Pylon, the Byrds, Gang of Four, Patti Smith, the Feelies, Joy Division, the Method Actors, Big Star, the dB’s, the Monkees. Press “Blend” button. (I’ve never owned a blender; I don’t know what the buttons say.)
youtube
2. Easy formula for a great band
Having one temperamental genius songwriter guy sounds kind of hard to maintain. Have you considered simply getting four people who are really excellent and distinctive at the respective things they do (at least three of them great singers), who all write well, get along, lack substance abuse issues, have good taste, and modest egos? Why don’t more bands do this?
3. Notes on the early discourse
A lot of the things people wrote back in the early ‘80s to champion this band were dumb as hell. R.E.M. weren’t good because they didn’t use keyboards or synths; pop music didn’t need to be returned to its "honest" folk-rock roots; giving them a thumbs up for not wearing flashy clothes and makeup is dork behaviour.
They were good because they made weird music that derived organically from their time (early ‘80s), place (a college town in the South), and selves (bright, independent, adventurous, sincere, ¼ gay).
Anyone who listened to Chronic Town or Murmur, with their post-punky murk and lyrical references to Laocoön and Marat, and thought to themselves, “As yes, the second coming of Roger McGuinn, this will put those effete new wavers to flight,” was an idiot.
Tumblr media
4. Veteran of the psychic war
Somewhere around age 22, R.E.M. took over the mantle Metallica had held as My Favourite Band in the World Forever and Ever, and I proceeded to be almost as annoying about them as I had been Hetfield and the boys. I posted a lot about them; rigged “best music” polls on random message boards I didn’t even post on in their favour; cornered people at parties; crowbarred them into playlists; grumpily chose to dislike bands I saw as stealing their shine; etc. etc. Some (some) of this is maybe cute in retrospect, but really: don’t be like this about music. If you love a band this much, learn how to play their songs on an instrument; write a few poems; paint something. Worst case: review them.
5. Learning nothing, 2024
Tumblr media
6. Athens: Lyrics & Enunciation
The matter of what exactly Stipe was singing on the early R.E.M. records was a subject of intense speculation, and eventually, parody. Some of the mystery’s in the mixing, some’s in his Georgian accent, and some’s in his enunciation (never quite as mushy as people claimed, but not exactly Ella Fitzgerald either). But most of it’s in the arbitrary decisions he makes with regard to syntax that cause even accurate transcriptions to seem implausible. Stipe is probably a little bit autistic, which goes some way to explaining the impressionistic intuitiveness of his words, and also went to art school, which fetishizes that sort of thing, but he was always shy of people seeing the words to something like “Sitting Still” on the page because he thought he might be exposed as a nincompoop. “Up to par and Katie bars / The kitchen side, but not me in / Sitting top of the big hill / Waste of time sitting still,” goes the chorus, according to at least one gnostic sect, but the important passage is the one everyone agrees on, when the stream of impassioned babble releases into a howled “I can hear you / Can you hear me?”
youtube
Later on, when he would sing more clearly over airy arrangements, with the lyrics neatly printed in the booklet, he’d occasionally try one of those old sound-over-sense moves and embarrass himself (“Leaving New York was never my proud” still rankles). But Murmur’s eternal elusiveness is in the way fragments of sense catch your ear from out of its sleeptalk glossolalia:
“The pilgrimage has gained momentum” “Conversation fear” “Lighted, lighted / Laughing in tune” “Hear the howl of the rope / A question” “A perfect circle of acquaintances and friends / Drink another, coin a phrase” “Shaking through / Opportune” “Take oasis” “Heaven assumes / Shoulders high in the room” “Did we miss anything?”
7. Permission to be arbitrary
I remember sitting in the basement of my college house with my old hometown buddy Brad (mostly a metal/classic rock guy), playing him “Shaking Through” and explaining one of the things I love about old R.E.M. is that it’s great music to yell to. I don’t know how much he really got it, but we were drunk and it’s a catchy song, so we howled and made keening, wordless, Stipean noises along with it and the next few until one of my roommates came and asked us to keep it down.
Also: one theory for why cats purr when they’re injured is that the vibrations somehow reduce pain and encourage healing. From many experiences humming these songs while wrapped up in headphones and bedsheets in the middle of a day that’s passing like a kidney stone, I can confirm.
Tumblr media
8. Note on the modern discourse: Influence?
Black Francis, Kurt Cobain, Bob Mould, Steve Malkmus, Bob Pollard, and Thom Yorke loved R.E.M. So did, to his own apparent consternation, Metallica’s Cliff Burton. Still, you sit down with someone and listen to those musicians with the goal of showing them the R.E.M. influence (don’t do this, why would you do this?) and it’s honestly pretty oblique. Most of the bands who directly aped aspects of R.E.M.'s early sound were at best pleasantly minor (see Captured Tracks’ Strum & Thrum comp), and the ones who seemed to be listening most closely to their ‘90s efforts were not who you want.
Their ultimate influence was probably simply showing what an art-first, indie-adjacent rock band could accomplish by sticking to their guns and bending the system to their desires instead of being bent by it. They were like a Velvet Underground for the college rock era, except everyone talented who heard them was inspired to start a band that didn’t sound much like them. They always used their spotlight to introduce people to other bands and, when they really got huge, they modeled how to deal with success. There don’t seem to be many R.E.M. stories, Peter Buck’s airplane incident aside, about them being anything other than kind. That’s a fundamentally less exciting type of influence than most other “great” bands have. But I do think it’s kinda cool they were the wise old heads for an entire national movement of alternative music.
8b.
Of course, it still bugs me people don’t think they’re cool. Murmur at least, should be considered cool. And Reckoning, mostly. Chronic Town for sure. Some of Fables. Am I crazy for saying some of Monster and New Adventures even? I’ll stop. I’ll go on.
9(-9). The music
They were a pop band, they were an art band; they sounded like children, and like craggy old men buried in kudzu weed; natural and pretentious; date-stamped and timeless. Decide yourself. Happy 41st birthday Murmur.

Real question: Who's your favourite monkee?,
as of now, it's a tie between mike and peter (which as far as I understand seems to be the general fan consensus)
the appeal of mike is that I know a bossy bassist* when I see one and you can always count on me to latch onto that (*I know he's technically the guitarist but the wikipedia article saying that he should've been the one to play the bass and I can tell. it's in his slightly more self-conscious posture. this is my gaydar). I'll be honest tho. the hat is what sold me.
the appeal of peter (pete?) is the apparent contrast between his character and his actual personality. he seems to have the most at stake in terms of the threat of fiction bleeding over into real life. it's my favorite thing in the world when someone is Doomed by The Narrative, so I'm very down for that. I also relate to goofy aloofness hiding deep introspection beneath it

The New Scooby Doo Movies S1 E13-16
13. The Haunted Horseman of Hagglethorn Hall
Tumblr media
Undoubtedly this is my favourite episode of this iteration.
The episode follows the gang having to help Davy Jones of the Monkees solve a mystery of a Scottish castle. It’s fairly simple, but it shines through its characterisation and its use of the guest star.
I love the way Davy interacts with the gang, he’s not necessarily the focus throughout, rather, the mystery takes precedence, and wow does this feel like an actual mystery! It harkens back to Where are You in a way I personally love. Davy is found by having the gang follow a trail of his singing, and later, he sings a song that scores a chase sequence. It’s so perfect, the bubblegum pop sound allows this episode to feel like it came from season two of Where are You, and I feel like it elevates this great chase scene a lot.
The location is another classic feeling one, it’s a castle, haunted by a ghost and a moat monster. Again, it takes the best of what both this era and Where are You had to offer and blends them, this is an episode that makes use of the special guest while feeling like an interesting mystery and having an interesting villain.
To linger on these for a moment, the Haunted Horseman is a fun design, the archetype of a knight and horse matches the location perfectly, and of course, this also ties back into the ghostly aspect of this villain. The monster truly haunts the halls of this episode - he will appear, then fade, crafting this unpredictability and impermanence to him which adds to the creepiness of the character.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the Moat Monster also is a very fun creature for the series. Sometimes feeling like just a toad, other times truly leaning into the more anthropomorphic elements, the monster is just fun to watch bounce around, he’s a large toad, feeling reminiscent of 50s creature features to me, such a creature certainly would be alarming, especially if he got up and ran. There’s a simplicity here that reminds me of the Shark Men, sure he’s kind of just a shark, but he’s also enough man to keep the design interesting and not as bare bones as one might initially think.
Tumblr media
Also, I found this to be a pretty funny episode! For example, come the end of the story they simply don’t arrest the villains? Hell the gang don’t even report them, instead, they are forced to work, unpaid, at the castle to make amends.
They break off into a fun set of trios too, and all in all, I had a great time. I won’t lie, I still felt the length of the episode, but ultimately, I was having fun for the majority of it, and this is truly the most perfect episode this iteration of the franchise has to offer, at least in my eyes.
14. The Phantom of the Country Music Hall
Tumblr media
To me, this is maybe one of the most forgettable episodes from this season. It’s not awful, hell, I loved the opening half of this episode! However, nothing about it leaves much of an impression on me.
Jerry Reed is a fine guest star to me, he adds more than he takes away, but he also left very little of a mark on me. He was a country singer and an actor, and I do appreciate when they use musicians and include music within the episode; Jerry sings "Pretty Mary Sunlight" which first appeared in “Don’t Fool with a Phantom”, sung there by George Robertson Jr. It’s simply a good device to incorporate the guest deeper into the episode's membrane, rather than simply having them appear and go along with the mystery.
Actually, one of the best aspects of this episode is that the mystery revolves around the guest star's disappearance, a close friend of the gang. It's a breath of fresh air amidst the rest of the series, I appreciate them doing something different with the formula! By doing this they also skate the line of having meaningful commentary on the music industry, which feels more incidental than anything, but I found it funny regardless. Especially in the context of the series' previous love for bubblegum pop, music churned out, sometimes without the bands being aware of such. For example, The Monkees second album released without their knowing, they found out while on tour, it was forced to release early to capitalise on the band's popularity, fearing it would soon decline.
I have very little to discuss in the way of the villains. The pair take on the mantle of a set of mannequins - a Viking and Davy Crockett. They work alongside the setting well, although, there’s something simply lifeless feeling about the pair. Both are simply what they say they are, a Viking and Davy Crockett, an American soldier and politician whose stories had been adapted by Disney in the early 50s. He is, or at least was, hailed as a hero, a figure to be praised, although in my brief research I imagine this is contested now given his history with slavery. It’s always so weird whenever Scooby-Doo uses villains like these in their episodes, historical figures steeped in controversy and horrific actions. Their specifics on it being Davy are curious too, especially when contrasted with the viking. I appreciate how they differ, yet, having a specific character and caricature feels somewhat off. Regardless, they’re fairly dull, their designs radiate with an air of being fine, meanwhile also lacking any personality.
Tumblr media
As I mentioned in the opening, this episode feels so forgettable. Despite enjoying the first half, then finding the second half completely dull, I feel like there are two main reasons I forgot I even watched this one! The villain’s are boring and the guest hardly appears. The latter works well in the context of the episode, but there’s nothing left to elevate this forty minutes, the gang walk around, and that’s kind of it.
15. The Caped Crusader Caper
Tumblr media
Watching this episode transported me back to being a child, I used to have a small boxy TV in my bedroom, it sat atop my Chester drawers. Growing up I had an old VHS player in my room - we had a DVD player downstairs by this point - and so all my brother's old VHS tapes, and my own too, became a frequent nightly rotation. One such I would watch a lot was the Scooby-Doo Meets Batman VHS tape, containing the pair of episodes from this series. Despite watching this so often, if someone had asked me before I sat back down to watch this the plot of it, I would have struggled to tell you. Rewatching it unveils why, given that it suffers from the same problems as the episodes that have come prior, the long and dreary pacing, uninteresting mysteries that make these forty minute episodes into a drag.
Tumblr media
Despite this, I did enjoy the rush of nostalgia, patchy old memories flooded back to me, specifically the rotating house and the troll. Regardless of my thoughts on the rest of the episode, there is something special waiting for me within this animation, the sound, the story, it’s like candy floss, a short burst of joy that quickly fades, leaving an odd taste in your mouth, but nothing real.
Something I came to like about this episode is the way it almost entirely parts ways with the mystery formula, it breaks away from the confines of the Scooby structure and it is able to tell a more interesting story as a result. It’s far from perfect, likely some of the weaker writing both franchises have seen, however, it’s something, it’s experimenting and I appreciate that a whole lot more than half hearted attempts at shoe horning lifeless mysteries alongside a guest star that’s the real focal point. The issue usually is that the gang are somewhat frail characters, characters I adore, but at this point in the shows run, Fred and Daphne especially find themselves feeling rough around the edges, they have their roles, their purposes, but they’re constantly overshadowed by the far more interestingly characterised rest of the gang. As such, it’s difficult for these characters to exist outside of the mysteries they’re built for, it then makes it more difficult to bounce them off a celebrity guest.
For so long I have deemed Daphne and Fred as being bland characters, which I think is somewhat unfair. Fred is the driver and leader, meanwhile Daphne is a clutz, but also always a detective. I think it’s something that is often ignored - hell I ignored it - but even when Daphne is captured or falls into a trap, she never gives up, she constantly attempts to continue with the mystery. She’s a stark juxtaposition to Shaggy and Scooby in this sense. Yet, over time, she will become more of this one note “danger prone” character.
Regardless, I would argue that through all the flanderization, changes in characterisation and reinvention this set of characters go through during this franchise, across every single iteration of the series, this is the most bland they feel, the least alive the characters have ever and will ever feel. There’s worse versions of them, but I would take that over this iteration where often it feels like the characters are never given enough room to do anything interesting, or sometimes, too much time to do nothing interesting.
However, one of my favourite dynamics is when the gang is placed opposite Batman and Robin, they’re definitely some of the most interesting guests in the series. There's a reason that to this day we see crossovers with this set of characters, and it’s because they have very fun chemistry, there’s so much joy in watching them interact!
Joker and Penguin are once again the villains of this episode, likely a cost cutting measure, however, they’re fun to see again! Although Batman does reintroduce them to the gang despite their previous meeting, of course, this is done so the episodes can air in any order without viewers being left confused as to how Shaggy and the Joker are enemies, but it returns to the series constant selective continuity which is funny. Personally, I like to read this as Batman just constantly overexplains things.
Tumblr media
The duo do dress up in disguises here! There’s the Dryad and Troll. Dryad’s are nature spirits in Greek Mythology, a topic that I am always excited to discuss. This depiction of the spirits is a very literal image of a forest spirit, a tree that is alive, the concept of the Dryad already is very flexible which allows for very creative ways to spin these creatures, often depicted as feminine spirits. Drawing from the swampy and bushy face of the Dryad, the creature feels evocative of other monsters we’ve seen such as the Yeti, their face shape is almost identical and they command a similar animalistic presence, although the small arms of this Dryad gives a far less menacing presence to the villain.
The Troll meanwhile is another fairly derivative design, this is a troll, short with ginger hair and green tinted skin. Everything about this pair’s designs work perfectly, from the proportions to the way they compliment each other with a fairy tale theme.
Also, this episode is featured in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode Bat-Mite Presents: Batman's Strangest Cases!
Tumblr media
There’s a reason I haven’t discussed much about the actual content of the episode - there’s not loads. Again, this episode is above the others to me because of nostalgia, but also because it’s at the very least trying something different, and after watching every episode prior, I am very glad about this.
16. The Lochness Mess
Tumblr media
I adore Uncle Nathaniel. I have so little else to discuss about this episode, it’s very similar to the previous Globetrotters episode in that there’s a lot of basketball playing that I find boring, but if there’s one thing I don’t find boring, it’s Uncle Nathaniel. Shaggy’s uncle’s design takes Shaggy’s face, and makes him grey haired. Perfect. It’s not a lazy design either, his hair is different, as is his beard and costume, it’s instead a very funny design, it’s so great to see them be able to craft such a funny character both in design and characterisation after how bland so many other side characters have felt this season. Nathaniel is the stand out of this episode, every second he spends on screen is a delight! I believed wholeheartedly that he and Shaggy were from the same family beyond simple design motifs.
Tumblr media
Everything else is kind of whatever.
If Nathaniel isn’t in the scene, it’s likely not doing much for me - we get a little drop of lore here, we see young Scooby and Shaggy! Weirdly, a lot of the lore for the series stays pretty consistent for a while. For the first few series, there’s a few lines that allude to the passing of time, that these series follow on from one another, which I really enjoy.
The sea serpent is the most interesting of the villains, she’s a riff on the Loch Ness Monster, given a very dragon like appearance although her hands are webbed which instantly turns her into a more interesting design. I also adore the deep shade of forest green paired with the lilac they use for her design, again, this works perfectly for the swampy waters that she would be in, and all in all, this creates such a great and cohesive design.
There’s also three confederate ghosts, because of course there is! I don’t know what to say, they’ll use this archetype again in Zombie Island and it’s always very gross, don’t get me wrong I love that movie so much, but it’s just not a great type of villain. It returns back to my prior point about Davy Crocket, it just makes bad characters for a Scooby Doo episode.
Tumblr media
In my notes I only actually wrote about Nathaniel and also that I like watching Scooby swim. This episode leaves very little impact beyond these factors which are amazing, perfect even. It’s just a shame that everything else does nothing.
This rounds out season one! To discuss my thoughts very briefly, I really disliked this season, and this iteration of the show as a whole. I will say that I like it better than season two, which is something I guess! There’s a few stand out episodes in here, but as a whole, I am glad to be done with this season!

Hi Matt 🫶 you are my jonesmith brother in arms so I assume that is your favorite of the Monkees ships but I’m curious about your opinion on all the other ships and if you ship them or not/what you like about them if you do? not specifying show vs rpf so I’m leaving that choice to you :]
Yippee!! Jonesmith is definitely my fav show ship since it’s the first one I was interested in when I first watched the show! They hold a special place in my heart <3
As for the other ships, I wont lie I have tunnel vision for Davy 0.0 but!
Jork: This ship I see more as an irl ship because of Peters crush and just watching them interact with each other it’s obvious they shared a very strong bond regardless of romantic or not. Not to mention Peter always mentioning how he felt closest to Davy out of all the guys. I think they’re super cute irl and in show :3
Jolenz: Showverse Jolenz I love because the writers just loved to write these guys jumping all over each other and worrying about each other all the time. As for irl Jolenz (before their beef👀) I mean cmon, neck bite and nipple grab combo? Something was going on there 0.0 But fr I do love them in the 70’s and them literally making Nilsson give Micky a part in The Point just because they wanted to go together? Love them codependent freaks
These two I think are the only ones I truly believe there was something irl
Jonesmith: In showverse they’re my favourite because they bounce off each other so well and who am I to deny the tall guy small guy bit?? Irl jonesmith I do not believe in but I do think their friendship was super cute, like how they’d run to find each other when they heard a good joke just so they could share it
Torksmith: Showverse I kinda see it though I do see Mike more of an authoritative figure over Peter than a romantic partner so I wouldnt really say I ship it. As for irl… those freaks where would I even BEGIN, there are no words they are………. There’s so much lore 😭 I wouldnt say I ship it but I can see homoerotic beef when it happens 0.0
The next ones are all showverse opinions because I dont know enough about them irl to say anything 🙏
Torklenz: I did see them as a ship when I first watched the show, mostly as a secondary/complimentary ship to Jonesmith. But I do think their teasing and the scene with them dancing is cute. Other than that I wont lie I dont think of them much
Dolenzmith: Once again, don’t think about them much (Davy tunnel vision is a real illness). Showverse I could say I ship it simply because there is no excuse for getting that close to someone’s face that many times 😭
Poly Showverse Monkees are my heart and soul and truth🙌

told my brother that you think the joker and john lennon would have much to discuss and he thoughtfully said "I'm not sure about that."
well to be entirely truthful with you my dear friend i do believe the joker would have more to discuss with any of the monkees than with john lennon. if we want to get serious and sincere about this (see the fact that he has seen everyone's favourite box office flop head 1968). but i am so incredibly obsessed with this image by my partner in crime @jokeryuri (and its inspiration too to be honest)

Michael Nesmith and the Second National Band
I have wanted to write about Tantamount to Treason Vol. 1 for a long time, I have quite a bit to say about it. I feel especially inspired to talk about why this album version of Circle Sky is my favourite out of all the different recordings of the the song out there.
I love Circle Sky no mater when, where, or how he does it- but this 1972 version really knocks me out the most. I have been thinking on why this might be, and I realized it's because it's the most Him recording of the song. Michael was in charge and there was nobody telling him how to do it- he had all the creative control to bring his song to life in his own imaginative way.
I love The Monkees songs, clearly... but Nesmith does mention that his creativity could be stifled by the recording and producing taking place in those studios. His 70s work is a real testament to him proving just how talented and creative he really is unrestrained.
Circle Sky features many notes of the musical influences in Michael's life- it has qualities of hard rock, country, old rock and roll/rhythm and blues all paired with his unique lyricism. An unlikely combination that blows my mind every time... the talent and creativity is astounding. This track really feels like a piece of Michael Nesmith and who he is.
Circle Sky is one of those iconic monkees songs, the kind of tune that really defines the band for many fans. When I listen to this TtTv1 version I really feel through the song just how much The Monkees and The First National Band grew and shaped Nez as an artist! These songs to me, demonstrate how these experiences brought him to higher and higher musical levels and highs. There is a maturity and freedom to the record that I just love, I could talk about this masterpiece for hours.
I really think this whole album is horrifically underrated, it's got to be one of my favourite records in my collection... and I mean how pretty is this 50th anniversary edition ;)
