#it's wild that this site champions hobbyists but is so disrespectful to professional artists#I guess it's the whole thing of when people have a little knowledge they tend to overestimate what they know#anyway that's my vfx artist rant for the month#ya'll don't even know what a macbeth chart or a LUT is

I’m convinced if ppl on this site knew how crappy gifs look before you color them properly, they would appreciate editors more

#gif #specifically reblogging this version of the chain #because someone just put the response above it on my dash #and my blood pressure spiked #5 second gifs displayed on tumblr are a different medium from whatever longform media they're adapting #like i appreciate the effort gif hobbyists put into things #and to translate things from their original medium to a new one #and to optimize it for that new format #but stop insulting people who created something for a medium you're not even viewing it on #this is the equivalent of saying that the people who created the show you're creating an amv from should quit #because they put the scenes in the wrong order for the song you set it to #(also THE COLORISTS and DPs created the grading look)#(not the editors)#(editors assemble footage -- sometimes have to grade on smaller productions because they wear multiple hats)#(but usually it's a much simpler grade unless they have a lot of time)#color grading is a goddamn art form #and a VERY difficult one at that #you should also see how flat and lifeless the footage looks straight out of the camera #all of that dynamic range you're messing with in photoshop came from somewhere -- it's not magic a gif editor created out of thin air
