HOW COULD YOU FORGET THE JELLYNEO DRAMA ABOUT THE PEA.

A quick background that OP missed as well: most Battledome items are inflated right now because the Neopets staff confirmed we're getting a new plot in the new year, and those usually require the Battledome. So everyone is trying to train up their pets for it. The SeAP is actually the second best weapon in Neopets.

So for those who don't know, the main Neopets fansite is Jellyneo: it has game guides, your daily lists, articles for everything, and the item database to check prices on everything. Crucially, Jellyneo has a volunteer staff of some 40 people, which is more than the actual Neopets staff, as confirmed on a livestream a couple weeks ago.

The SeAP was put into the Advent Calendar as a rare random drop on day one, and everyone lost their minds. But on day 2, no one got one for like six hours, so a lot of people thought that it was only in the pool of prizes for day one. Some Jellyneo staff "confirmed" this and perpetuated the rumour. This shot prices up to 500mil. And then about six Jellyneo staff went and sold some thirty SeAPs at that price....

...and then we had some reports of people still getting the pea from the advent calendar. It was never taken out of the pool. Jellyneo's item database, which usually warns people of an item undergoing rapid inflation, did not do this for the Pea citing it as an event item, even though they have done this in the past for event items.

So, with proof of the pea still being in the pool, prices dropped to 100-300mil. JN immediately came under a lot of fire for what's effectively insider trading. And then it was leaked that the JN volunteers who did this didn't just do insider trading: they'd timed it, because they had access to JN's item crawlers that update prices, and had manually changed the JN display price for the pea so people bought their peas, before crashing the price on purpose.

There really isn't an alternative to JN's item index. There's SunnyNeo and DressToImpress, but JN is the only one with an item database that even sort of works. So people are Actively Furious, and still pretty pissed at JN for pulling this, which in some twenty years of service they've never done before.
