are we really still doing this
#why are we still doing opression olympics. women are disproportionately put down by society but that doesnt mean it doesnt have an affect on#men as well. you guys are fucking stupid#sincerely someone who was a girl for a long tjme#(before you guys see he/him in my bio and instantly dismiss me as a stupid man whos never experienced misogyny)#women are affected so much by it. the oppression is built in. but the patriarchy affects men too! surprise!#men get sensitivity and kindness literally beat out of them#any display of “weakness” is dangerous#and are we forgetting about gay men you guys. are we forgetting about queer men#when you say men arent affected by misogyny you can say youre talking about cishet men all you like but your trans friends and your gay male#friends see that and think “oh this person thinks none of my trauma is real”#gay meaning queer in general should have made that a wider statement

MASTLERLIST
“I’ll see if we can sort this thing out.”
It was the last thing he had said to her with a small and yet reassuring smile before he turned and walked through those pale doors and apparently, y/n’s life. She hadn’t seen Dr Cullen since the day of the accident. Hell, she had barely seen his adopted children. Spring was warming into summer, the sun glittering down through the immense greenery and the Cullens were never around when it was sunny.
Bella and Edward were getting closer with every passing day. He had taken over their morning ride together, stopping by in his silver Volvo to pick Bella up, every so often flashing a smile at y/n as she climbed into her own less flashy car. Edward was kind enough to leave Bella to y/n after school, considering they both finished with gym. It was precious time for the pair as they recounted their day and filled each other in on gossip, none of it proving to be that interesting. Well, apart from the budding romance between Bella and Edward.
Despite y/n’s secret complaints every time Bella disappeared from a study session or cancelled a trip to Port Angeles, she knew her prejudice came from no genuine malice toward Edward. After all, he was lovely. Since the day of the accident his attitude towards y/n had done a 180, before he had never so much as spared her a glance and now he smiled at her in the corridor, even sat next to her in English, the only class they shared together. He made little conversation, most of it was inquiring after Bella but it was nice to have made a new friend.
It just seemed unfair. They way he had spoken in the hospital made it seem as if something would happen, perhaps an apology gift or an invitation to their mansion up in the woods. Something. Edward’s cordial behaviour was pleasant but in no way satisfactory. Y/n wished in every spare moment to see the doctor again, and when she wasn’t wishing to see him she was imagining what it would be like to see him. Maybe he’d pick the Cullen’s up after school or maybe there would be some big event in town which everyone went to. It was a silly thought since the Cullens were rarely grouped with ‘everyone’. So her mind of drifted to the idea of herself being injured, dragged into hospital only to have his face, angelic and flushed in light hovering above her.
“Stupid.” She muttered under her breath, dismissing the thought instantly. Bella threw her a glance, “Forgot to carry the one.” Y/n lied as she smiled and looked back down at her barely touched maths homework. All this pining and obsessive thinking made her feel so little and insignificant. She felt like a student with a crush on their teacher, and in many ways she was. Every time his name or ivory face rolled into her mind a small voice in her head protested.
She hated that voice. It was the one that reminded her she was only a junior in high school. The one that mocked her, told her that he was an adult with a job, a medical job that must have demanded a couple of years of study pushing him into his late twenties. What doctor has time for a high school student with a crush. A crush that was so overt she couldn’t even talk to Bella about it. Bella who had quickly grown into becoming her best friend, Bella who was dating Carlisle’s adopted son, Bella who was currently packing her things into her bag with haste.
“Where are you going?” Y/n hated the small whine in her voice and tried to play it off with a smile. She wanted to be happy for Bella and Edward and deep down she was, they were just a reminder that she was getting nowhere with her own crush and, most likely, never would.
“I’m running up to Edward’s to pick up his Bio questions. I forgot about them and he offered to help.” She smiled, oblivious to y/n’s anguish.
They were camped out in Bella’s room, a strange sounding CD playing in the background as they finished off their schoolwork. It had become a bit of a ritual to spend time with each other doing insignificant things. Bella was nice like that, never desperate to go anywhere or really do anything, happy to stay inside. Plus Charlie liked having y/n in the house, he was always asking her questions about her parents, grateful Bella was able to make such a good friend so soon.
“M’kay.” Y/n followed in suit, shoving her unfinished problems into her bag. This was her cue to leave. “How is Edward by the way?”
“He’s...fine?” Bella smiled wryly through her lashes, “Why are you asking?”
“Oh, it’s just, you always fill me in on your gossip but never actually tell me how he is.” Y/n smiled back as they both padded down the stairs.
“He’s fine. I think. His family’s a bit nervous about us actually.”
“Oh.” Y/n tried to make her voice sound as inconspicuous as possible, hiding her feral craving for more information on the Cullens.
“Well...it’s mostly just Rosaline, you know the blonde one.”
“The gorgeous one.”
“They’re all gorgeous.” Bella sighed.
“You got that right.” Y/n muttered under her breath. Pale hair melting into pale skin - the human equivalent of snow.
“Anyways,” Bella sighed not hearing her, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Yup!” Y/n called over her shoulder as she hopped the fence between their two houses, pulling the keys out of her pocket.
A loud engine revved distantly followed by the squealing of car tires as a silver blur flashed down the street before halting in front of them. Edward. He was out of the car quickly, a broad grin stretched across his cheeks. He was smiling at Bella, of course. Y/n was happy for them, smiling to herself as she pushed her keys into the door.
“Hey y/n!” His voice was both silken and broad.
“Hey!” Y/n spun around shooting him a grin, “How are you, I haven’t seen you for a while.” It was nice now that she was able to actually carry a conversation with him, that they weren’t just strangers.
“Yeah weather’s been nice, Carlisle took us up this trail in the mountains. It was beautiful.” Edward said his name so casually and yet the word stunned her for a minute. It had been so long since she had actually heard it said aloud.
“Oh,” She murmured, her breath somewhat stuck in her throat. His eyes were careful, assessing her despite his broad welcoming smile. “Well you owe me,” Y/n relaxed back into the conversation, “I’ve been taking over Bella runs to school.” His laugh was loud and rare.
“Hey!” Bella half-protested tucking a lock of hair behind her ear, “I didn’t realise I was such a burden to you guys.”
“Aw, it’s okay.” Y/n smiled, her keys feeling slippery in her fingers, “You make up for it with good conversation.” Y/n turned back to the door, mentally preparing for her night of microwaved meals and algebra.
“Y/n,” Edward’s voice surprisingly called out, “I’m running Bella up to mine for some biology questions but I wouldn’t mind if you came. I’ve got that first edition Hardy I was telling you about in English.”
The offer was most shocking to Bella who turned, utterly stunned, to gawk at her boyfriend. Y/n felt as though she had just been slapped as her heart lurched, sure her and Edward were chatty but the fact he was now inviting her to his house - the Cullens house. She did a quick mental calculation. On one hand she was invading Bella’s privacy with Edward but it was him who offered the invitation, on the other hand, well she might just see him. If it were anyone else y/n would have politely declined and been happy with soggy potatoes and Pythagoras, but she felt completely and utterly compelled to accept. The mere chance that he might be there in that house was enough for y/n to waltz her way into the back of Edward’s silver Volvo.
***
Edward drove like a maniac and somehow, that made sense. Y/n gripped the edge of her seat as she glanced out the window focusing on the never ending blur of blue and green. The conversation was casual and somewhat stilted but y/n couldn’t even try to care, her mind was already there in the Cullens house. She pictured popping into Edward’s room to grab the book and bumping into him, or the scenario where he was in the kitchen, or what about seeing him as he comes home from work, wearing the same pale shirt and tie.
Y/n hated how obsessive her mind was. But it genuinely felt as though she couldn’t help it, as though she had no control over her thoughts whatsoever. A small knot had twisted its way into existence in her gut and what was worse, they had already arrived.
“You guys can stay for a bit,” Edward got out the car heading into what can only be described as a mansion. “I’m pretty sure everyone’s out.” These seemed to ease something in Bella but had the opposite effect on y/n. Trying not to think about it y/n was quick behind Edward and Bella who had loosely interlocked their fingers as they walked in.
Taking her time, y/n absorbed what was probably the most beautiful house she had ever seen. Wood and glass flowing from wall to wall in eccentric shapes and patterns. Artwork y/n would never understand slung across the walls. A grand piano, smooth like silk displayed in the corner
“Oh, y/n.” Edward called her back to reality, “I’m pretty sure I left the book in the kitchen, I was going to bring it to you tomorrow.” Y/n was taken aback.
“Wow, thanks Edward. You really didn’t have to.”
“Don’t worry about it.” He smiled, “You’re free to get it, Kitchen’s just up the stairs and to the right.” Y/n smiled at him gratefully before heading up the stairs. Partly to leave Bella and Edward in peace, partly to admire the home interrupted. She took her time going to the kitchen, admiring the way the Cullens lived. Of course they lived somewhere like this.
Once in the kitchen, y/n spotted a worn copy of ‘Tess of the d’Urbervilles’ waiting for her. Picking it up she thumbed through the first few pages noticing small faded scribbles in pencil - it would be nice to have a look in Edward’s mind.
“Y/n.”
All he said was her name and yet she knew in an instant who it was. Snapping the book shut and spinning around, there he was. His trousers were dark and tucked into them was a crisp shirt, white as skin and unbuttoned slightly, the sleeves rolled up to display his forearms. They looked like marble, pale and stony and completely solid. His silver hair was swept away from his face, his eyes a golden brown similar to Edward’s. “How did you...” he trailed off, his voice soft and distant, not a hint of anger.
“Sorry Carlisle,” Edward appeared out of thin air behind her. She took note of how he never called him ‘dad’. “I thought everyone was out. I brought y/n and Bella up to collect some things for school.” The two Cullen’s stared intensely at each other, something passing between them in that look.
“I’m sorry,” Y/n blurted after a moment, feeling as though she had intruded, “I’ve got what I came for,” She held up the book, “I can head back now.” She attempted a half-smile not meeting Carlisle’s eyes.
“It’s fine.” He said almost too quickly. His voice quiet, meditated. “You’re no bother to me.” The way he spoke, it was so elegant and unlike anyone in town. “I see you two are friends now after the accident.” Edward and y/n shared a glance.
“It was no big problem really.” Y/n felt herself melting into his presence, now more confident to steal looks at his unwavering eyes, fixed on her. “Just a scratch.”
“Still,” A smile had warmed into his stony cheeks, evidently comfortable himself as he busied himself with a folder already fanned out on the counter top, “Edward’s behaviour was unacceptable. He did apologise?” Carlisle leaned on his forearms, his smile widening.
“Yes...I did.” Edward groaned, y/n couldn’t help but giggle. He then turned to her, “You should’ve heard the verbal lashing I got when I came home.”
“Edward.” Carlisle warned, his smile dropping disapprovingly. Edward held y/n’s gaze for a moment before slowly reaching Carlisle's stare, again something seemed to pass between the two. “Did you say Bella was here?” Carlisle swiftly changed the topic.
“Yeah, I best go find her.” Edward added, the two easing the tension with expertise. “Before she falls down two flights of stairs and through a window or something.” He muttered.
“Wouldn’t put it past her.” Y/n agreed.
“Me neither.” Carlisle added distantly causing y/n to flash a smile at him. Edward bounded out of the room, distantly calling Bella’s name as he began his search. “Good book.” Carlisle commented.
“Yeah when Edward said I could borrow his first edition I was in shock to be honest.” Making conversation was disturbingly easy.
“You can take anything you want from our library, it’s full of first editions.” Carlisle said without thinking, “It’s sort of a...hobby. For us.” The way he said ‘us’ made y/n shiver, he knew that him and his family were exclusive, outsiders. Us and them, and y/n couldn’t figure out what side she was on.
“I have a feeling this one will take me a while but thanks. I’ll keep your offer in mind.” She smiled without thinking.
“It’s nice to see Edward’s making friends. We’ve been here a few years now and he’s only just branching out.”
“Well, ‘making friends’ is a bit of an overstatement,” She leaned back against the counter top, comfortable, “Technically me and Bella are the only two people he’s talked to outside of his own family. And I’m pretty sure he’s only putting up with me because I live next to Bella, that and your...verbal lashing.”
“It wasn’t that bad, honestly.” Carlisle chuckled to himself.
“Thank you though, nonetheless.” He eyed her carefully, his golden orbs flitting across her face and, unless she was mistaken, for a moment they glanced down her body.
“Your cut cleaned up perfectly.” He spoke into the silence, “No scarring at all.”
“I don’t think I would’ve minded a scar. At least it would be a conversation starter.” He laughed, it was softer than Edward’s, more rounded and from deep within his chest.
“Ah yes, then you could tell everyone about the time you walked into a car door.”
“Technically, I think the car door walked into me.” He laughed again and y/n’s chest swelled with pride. She was doing it, holding a conversation with him at ease. “It feels like ages ago now,” She pondered aloud, “And it’s really how Edward and Bella met. Funny that.”
“Yes.” He agreed, his eyes holding hers a second too long before he turned back to his paperwork. “Well,” He cleared his throat, “Best get back to business.” Almost like clockwork Edward and Bella appeared at the stairs, giggling to themselves about some inside joke.
“Yeah uh, I’ll see you around.” Y/n shot him a tentative smile. He didn’t say anything in response but his eyes were conveying an emotion she couldn’t quite comprehend. She already knew that look was going to stick with her.
“You ready to head back y/n?” Edward asked as he sidled into the kitchen. From behind him Bella shot y/n an apologetic look as if she were sorry for leaving her with Carlisle. How little she knew.
“Of course.” Y/n smiled at Edward.
“Okay, just head down to the car I’ll be down in a sec.” With one last smile at Carlisle y/n skipped a little to meet up with Bella before the pair headed downstairs. It wasn’t until they were far out the house and near the car that Bella started a conversation.
“Sorry for leaving you there.” She half-smiled.
“Don’t be.” Y/n tried not to smile too much.
“Carlisle’s lovely isn’t he?” The question caught y/n off-guard, it took her a minute to realise Bella was speaking of him as a fatherly-figure.
“Uh, yeah.” Y/n stammered, a pink flush spreading across her cheeks. Bella noticed and went to say something when she realised.
“Y/n, your book?”
“What?” Y/n was confused again before realising, looking down her lap was empty. Completely devoid of all 19th century classical text. “Shit, be back in a sec.”
And with that she was out, jumping up the house steps two at a time. When she was in the house though she slowed down again, afraid of the mere thought of falling and damaging anything within the house. As she moved through the house she became aware of somewhat raised voices.
“What game are you playing?” It was Carlisle’s voice, not angry, not anything. It was completely monotonous. It was wrong to eavesdrop but it felt like she was stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one hand it was rude to eavesdrop, on the other she was already stuck behind the corner of the kitchen and had no idea how to walk into the kitchen naturally, especially since the conversation had already begun and the Cullens would know that she must’ve heard some of it.
“I’m not doing anything.” Edward’s voice was soft as well. The pair arguing without arguing.
“What you’re doing is dangerous.”
“You’re so happy for me and Bella. Every time I enter a room all I can hear it you’re praise of approval. Why can’t you let yourself be happy.”
“Edward-”
“I’m being serious.”
“I don’t need this right now I’ve got paperwork.”
“If we were to live life your way you’d quite literally be doing paperwork for eternity.”
“The smell Edward. Even I have only so much restraint.” Whatever she was expecting to hear, it wasn’t that. Y/n was brutally offended. Surely, surely he wasn’t talking about her. Mortified, y/n tugged her shirt to her nose and inhaled deeply. It smelt like her mother’s washing detergent and y/n’s cheap perfume from Christmas. The statement had knocked her so off balance she wasn’t quite aware of Edward stalking in her direction. Hurriedly, she paced down three steps before walking up them as if it were the first time.
“Y/n.” Edward exclaimed loud enough for Carlisle to hear. Y/n looked at him, trying to mask whatever emotion she was feeling.
“Sorry. I forgot the book.” She smiled, hoping her eyes didn’t give her away. Edward said nothing, just disappeared and returned with the Hardy, gently passing it to her before leading her downstairs. Did he know she was listening?
The drive home was silent.

Chapter 4
Henry's POV:
I scanned the park for people as Kal and I stepped onto the paved walking path, Kal panting and wagging his tail happily as he looked out at the grassy area. Finding no one in sight, I bent down to un-clip his lead and watched as he took off onto the grass, grinning when he reached the middle and turned around to bark at me. I flipped the newly-purchased travel mug over in my hands as I walked over to a nearby park bench, sitting down and looking up at Kal as he sniffed a tree curiously. I glanced down at the mug and frowned, all of a sudden feeling stupid for buying it yesterday. It had seemed like a great idea at the time, but right now it just seemed silly. What would Belle think? I had no idea if I'd even be able to give it to her since I had no idea if she'd even show this morning. And this is exactly why you should have just asked her for her number when you saw her yesterday. I shook my head and exhaled loudly, once again frustrated at my actions. On one hand I didn't want to seem too forward with a woman I'd known for less than an hour, but on the other hand there was an absolutely gorgeous girl that I had no way of knowing if I was ever going to see again. I glanced down at the mug and back up at Kal, thankful that I'd at least managed to find her on Instagram last night.
I'd been settling down into bed last night when I'd gone onto Instagram to reply to some of my fans comments on my new post. Then, by some kind of chance I'd seen it - a comment from a 'belledeluca' saying that she and Kyah had loved meeting Kal and I. Figuring that it could be the same Belle from the park, I'd clicked on her name to find a private profile with a small, simple bio. '29. Vet. London', the famous A.A Milne quote 'You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think' written beneath it. Though I couldn't quite make out the small profile picture, I could see the same gorgeous smile that had made me stop in my tracks in the park yesterday. It was her! I'd pressed the follow button without thinking and had been surprised when she'd accepted only a few minutes later, allowing me a full, unobstructed view of her photos.
I'd proceeded to spend the next ten minutes shamelessly searching through Belle's profile, each new picture only further confirming just how gorgeous I thought she was. There were photos of her at work smiling happily next to various animals, photos of her out on the town and laughing with her girlfriends, photos of her dressed to the nines in a deep red gown at some fancy event and of course several photos of her grinning happily with Kyah. I'd noted quite happily that absent from her profile was any pictures or mentions of a boyfriend, it seemed like it was just her and Kyah. What wasn't absent though - from almost every single photo, was that same unbelievably beautiful smile. It was one of those smiles that seemed to light up her entire face, one that would make you stop and stare if you saw it. Belle was absolutely stunning, and the more I looked at her photos, the more I realised just how much I wanted to see her again.
My head snapped up when I heard Kal bark, looking up just in time to see Kyah bounding towards him on the grass. Kyah's tail wagged furiously as she ran straight into Kal, the two instantly jumping into play-mode despite meeting for the first time only yesterday. I felt the smile grow on my face before my thoughts could even register. She was here! I heard the sound of footsteps behind me and I turned my head towards the noise, my smile growing even bigger when my eyes fell on the sight I'd be thinking about all night. Belle. She looked even more gorgeous than I remembered yesterday, dressed in figure hugging black leggings with her long brown hair pulled back into a high, bouncy ponytail. Even her eyes seemed to be brighter than I remembered, wide and a soft jade green, framed by long dark lashes. I grinned and leaned back on the bench, looking up at her as she pulled her headphones out of her ears. "Good morning Belle"."Good morning Henry" she replied with a soft smile, wrapping her headphones around her phone and reaching up to smooth her pony tail. I shifted on the bench to make room for her next to me, Belle flashing me a grateful smile and sitting down beside me.
"I see these two clearly missed each other" Belle said as she looked out at Kal and Kyah, letting out a soft laugh and turning to me with a grin. I chuckled, "Yes Kal was pestering me all night last night, kept saying how much he wanted to see his new friend again". She laughed louder this time, the sound light and bubbly and like music in my ears, her gorgeous green eyes crinkling at the sides as she looked back at me, amused. "How has your morning been?" Belle inquired, glancing out at the dogs and looking back at me thoughtfully, "Did you get up to much yesterday?". I exhaled and leaned back on the bench, "Well, it's starting off pretty well I must say" I replied gesturing to her and watching as a faint blush crept up her face, "In fact I'm quite sure that this will be the highlight of my day today".
I smiled as her cheeks turned a lovely shade of pink, watching as her lips parted into a gorgeous smile that made me momentarily lose my train of thought. "Charming as ever you are Mr Cavill" she retorted, laughing and shaking her head softly. I chuckled at her use of my last name and looked out at the dogs again, the strong scent of sweet fruity vanilla suddenly invading my senses as Belle shifted beside me. I closed my eyes for a brief moment taking in her intoxicating perfume, opening my eyes and looking back at her a moment later. "In answer to your question though, I didn't do a whole lot yesterday. Had some meetings to attend, a few gym sessions. Just the usual really". Belle laughed, "Just the usual? Oh how the other half lives". I laughed and shook my head, shifting on the bench, "What about yourself? How was work for you?".
Belle let out a soft sigh, "Work wasn't too bad yesterday. It was one of those flat out back-to-back appointment days which are never really great I guess, but it does mean that the day goes quickly" she explained with a shrug, "And then I went to my brother's place for a bit after yoga last night". I leaned back on the bench and tilted my head questioningly, "Yoga? How often do you do that?". Belle smiled, "Every Wednesday night. My sister in law Mel went through a 'wanting to try new things phase' a few months ago and of course I got dragged along". Almost instantly the image of Belle wearing very little and sitting in some bent over yoga position appeared in my brain and I had to look out at the dogs momentarily in an effort to compose myself. "I was a little apprehensive at first" Belle admitted reaching up to brush a piece of hair away from her face, "Especially when we spent the first session lying on our backs and "focusing on our breathing" she added, making quotation marks with her fingers when she said 'focusing on our breathing'. "But then I realised how great I felt after a session so I decided to keep at it. We've been going for a few months now".
I nodded, "Can't say I've ever thought about trying it". Belle tilted her head and shrugged, "I'm sure it's not for everyone. But if you can get past all of the flakey mindfulness stuff and focus on the movements, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised". I smiled, "I can barely touch my toes so I don't know how great I'd be" I laughed, shrugging my shoulders and grinning when Belle laughed out loud. I couldn't help my smile as I watched her intently, thinking for the tenth time this morning just how beautiful I thought she was. Belle grinned, "I'm sure you'd be more than fine Henry".
"So, what about this morning? Was getting out of bed as difficult as you said it was yesterday?". A grin grew on Belle's face as if she'd just thought of something funny, my eyebrows raising curiously when she shook her head a moment later as if dismissing a thought. "Well no, not exactly. I found it to be much easier to get out of bed when you have incentive" Belle replied, gesturing to me and flashing her gorgeous grin. I chuckled and watched as she opened her mouth to continue, her eyes all of a sudden widening as she looked down at my lap. Seeing her expression, I frowned and followed her eye line, shaking my head at myself when I saw the mug in my hands. I'd been so caught up in seeing Belle again that I'd forgotten to give it to her. "Wha---, that's not what I think it is, is it?" Belle stammered, looking at me with wide, confused eyes. I grinned, "Well, I'm hoping that you think it's a travel mug?". Belle rolled her eyes and laughed, "Yes thank you, I can see that" she answered, a hint of attitude sneaking into her voice, "What I meant was, that's not a replacement mug because of yesterday is it?".
My lips parted and I couldn't help my grin from forming as I looked back at her incredulous expression, "Well I'm terribly sorry to tell you, that actually, yes it is. I felt awful that you broke your mug because of Kal's lack of manners" I said gesturing out to the dogs, "So it was only right that I buy another since you refused to take my money yesterday". Belle shook her head defiantly, a small smile evident on her lips, "It's not like he did on purpose! I didn't even give it a second thought when I got home. You didn't need to do that, really, it's okay". I shrugged, "Well, I wanted to. So please take it" I replied, reaching over to place the mug in her lap and flashing her a grin. I watched as she shook her head again, letting out a soft laugh as she looked down at the mug and then back up at me. "Thank you Henry, it's very sweet of you" she responded glancing out at the dogs, "But see, now we have a problem. Now I feel that I owe you something. After all, you did go to the trouble of going out to buy this" she explained, holding up the mug for emphasis.
I opened my mouth to tell her that now she was the one being silly, an idea all of a sudden popping into my head. I'd been thinking about this girl all night last night, wishing I had asked for her number when I'd met her yesterday. Now I had the perfect opportunity - and I didn't know how to say it. I smiled and shifted on the bench as I looked over at Belle, watching as she raised a curious eyebrow when she saw my expression. "And what is that smile for Mr Cavill?" she asked, tilting her head and looking at me intently. I reached up and ran my fingers through my hair. "Well, technically you don't owe me anything, in fact I think this actually makes us even" I explained, gesturing to the mug in her hands, "However there is something that I'd like to ask you for". Belle laughed and shifted on the bench so that her whole body was now facing me, "Oh really? And what might that be?". As I searched for the words to ask, it suddenly dawned on me that I couldn't remember the last time I'd actually asked a girl for her number. I smiled as I looked back at Belle's gorgeous green eyes, letting out a deep, silent breath. It was now or never. "I'm aware that this may be awfully forward of me considering this is only the second time we've met" I began, swallowing thickly and letting out another breath, "But if it is okay with you, I'd like to please ask for your number".

Belle's POV:
The final buzzer sounded signalling the end of the game and I threw my hands up into the air in triumph! We did it! I shook hands with my player from the opposing team and thanked her for the game, winking at Jayde as I walked past her to shake hands with the rest of the team. She'd been absolutely on fire tonight scoring 23 of our 30 goals - even when she'd been standing in the most awkward of spots she'd still somehow managed to effortlessly get the ball through the ring. I'd been playing netball with her for almost 6 years now and I was still in awe every time I watched her. "Great game girls!" Ivy, our captain shouted as we came together, the whole team clapping when the umpire interrupted to announce that Jayde had won 'Best on Ground'. "Well deserved babe" I said as I wrapped my arm around her shoulders, giving her a squeeze, "You killed it tonight Jay". Ash grinned as she walked over to Jayde and I, patting her on the back and congratulating her on her performance.
"You ready for dinner guys?" Ash asked as we collected our gear, searching in her bag for her car keys. "Sure am!" Jayde answered as she pulled on her jumper, "I've been thinking about these dumplings all day. And I'm bloody starving!". Ash and I laughed as we walked towards our cars, a wide happy grin glued permanently to my face. I'd been on cloud nine the entire day, my mind still struggling to process what had happened this morning. Henry Cavill had asked for my number! The words had been running through my mind all day like a song on repeat. Henry fucking Cavill! I still hadn't told the girls yet - I'd wanted to wait until we sat down at dinner to tell them so that I could see their reactions first hand. It had taken every ounce of my energy not to text them both while I'd been at work today, my mind forcing me to delete the text that I'd written at least four times throughout the day.
"Follow me yeah?" Jayde yelled out as I opened my car door, fumbling through my bag in an effort to find my phone. "Yeah will do!" I shouted back as I slid into the drivers seat of my white SUV, my fingers finally locating my phone in my bag. The already enormous smile on my face got even bigger when I saw that I had a message from an unknown number, my heart racing in my chest when my eyes read the message. Henry! He'd sent me a text asking how my day had been, and how I'd gone at netball tonight, signing off with a simple 'H x'. I fought the urge to hug myself in glee, reading over the message again and wondering what on earth I should reply. It wasn't every day that I got a text message from a celebrity - and unbelievably handsome one at that. Handsome was not even a good enough word to describe Henry, no word was. I'd had to stop myself from swooning at least ten times while I'd sat with him this morning, the devastatingly sexy half smiles he'd kept flashing me threatening to turn me into a puddle on the floor. I jumped when a car horn suddenly honked, shaking me from my thoughts as I looked up to find both Ash and Jayde's cars sitting stationary at the exit of the car park. Realizing that they were both waiting for me - and aware that Jayde would start to get violent if she didn't get her dumplings soon, I typed a quick message back to Henry and dropped my phone back into my bag, pulling the gear stick into drive and following the girls out of the car park.
---
"I cannot believe you have Superman's number!" Jayde said for the hundredth time, finally giving up on trying to pick up a vegetarian dumpling with her chopsticks and switching to a fork. I'd told them all about my encounter on Wednesday morning - how I'd been ready to rip into the owner of the giant Akita that had knocked into Kyah and I, and how I'd seemingly lost all of my words when I realized who the owner was. I'd told them how how he'd followed me on Instagram last night, how he'd bought me another mug and had asked for my number, and how the two of us had continued to talk for over an hour this morning. Like me, they'd been incredulous when I showed them his text message, struggling to believe that I'd actually managed to meet and get the number of Henry Cavill himself. "So what now B?" Ash asked as she took a sip of her red wine, "Will you go on a date with him?". I covered my mouth as I chewed a prawn dumpling, swallowing and shrugging my shoulders. "Well that might be a bit presumptuous Ash" I replied, taking a sip of my own wine, "But I don't know, I can't say I've thought about the logistics - I mean, I only met the man yesterday. I've been in too much shock to think about that" I added with a laugh, putting down my wine glass and brushing a stray hair from my face.
"He asked for your number Belle, that's quite clearly something babe" Jayde interjected, stabbing another dumpling on her plate, "I mean, you don't ask someone for their number if you aren't interested in them". I shrugged my shoulders again and clicked my chopsticks together, considering her words. She did have a point there. Was Henry really interested in me? I shook my head and frowned - why would Henry Cavill - the Henry Cavill, be interested in me? I wasn't a model, I wasn't an actress, I was just a vet from the suburbs who happened to be at the park when he was. It didn't make sense. Didn't celebrities tend to stick to their own kind? Seeing my expression, Jayde shook her head and pointed her fork at me. "No, I know what you're thinking and you can erase that thought right now". I shook my head innocently, "What do you mean?". Jayde raised an eyebrow, "You're not doubting yourself, wondering why he is interested in you?" "Saying that you're 'just a vet'?" Ash added, she too looking at me with a raised eyebrow. I rolled my eyes and turned my attention back to my food, suddenly annoyed that my two best friends could read me so well. "It's not that I'm doubting myself, it's just that, why? Like the man could have literally any woman in the world". "And yet he asked for your number you gorgeous bitch" Jayde interrupted, flashing me a wicked grin as she took a sip of her wine, "So stop thinking negatively and realize the positives here". "And they are?" I challenged, tilting my head as I looked back at Jayde. "That sex-on-legs fucking Superman is into you of course!".
Several courses of dumplings and many glasses of red wine later, the three of us sat at the table, pleasantly content. When we'd finally gotten away from the topic of Henry, Jayde had told us all about a new drama at work - she was a lawyer at a mid size firm in the heart of the city. The firm had hired a new senior associate who apparently looked like a darker version of Jake Gyllenhaal but sounded like Gerard Butler, and - according to Jayde, had consequently sent all of the young female paralegals and junior associates into a tiz. Ash and I had both laughed when she'd told us - it had sounded like something right out of a Suits episode. I grinned, Oh Harvey Spectre. Jamie was later brought up and Ash's eyes had welled up almost instantly at the mention of her brother. She'd admitted that she was struggling without him - especially with not being able to contact him, but was happy that he was finally doing something he'd always wanted to do. She'd explained that he was only able to make phone calls once a week while he was in the initial training, and that she was eagerly awaiting his call next week.
---
"So what are you doing this weekend B?" Ash asked as we stood up from the table, grabbing our things as Jayde walked over to the front of the restaurant to pay the bill. "Oh I've got Amy and Marc coming to visit. You remember my friends from Australia don't you? They were here last year for a week or so, came to visit me on their way to visit Marc's family in Glasgow?". Ash nodded, "Yeah I remember, the Scottish guy with the beard and amazing green eyes". I laughed, "Yes that's the one. They're visiting Marc's family again and are doing a big Europe trip this time. I'm picking them up from the airport tomorrow and they're staying with me for a few days" I explained as I pulled on my jacket, "What about you?". "Liam's taking me away for the weekend" Ash replied just as Jayde returned to the table. "Oooo where are you going?" Jayde teased, slipping on her jacket, "Big romantic weekend for you two?". Ash rolled her eyes, "Were going to Galway to visit his parents and then just going to do some sight seeing or something. Planning for the wedding has been ridiculously stressful lately, and he knows this week has been hard with Jamie and everything. So he wanted us to have a little getaway" she explained as the three of us made our way out of the restaurant. I nodded, "Speaking of, how is planning going? Have you got much left to do?".
After being together for over seven years, Liam had finally popped the question on Ash's birthday last year. He'd come to Jayde and I a few weeks before, wanting our opinions on engagement rings. We'd given him our best advice and several weeks later he'd asked her to marry him during a carefully planned, romantic weekend in Paris. She'd called almost as soon as he had asked, her voice practically incoherent among the happy sobs and cries. When they'd finally set a date a few months later, Ash had asked Jayde and I to be her bridesmaids, along with her younger sister Taylah as her maid of honour. Together, the three of us had helped out with the wedding planing, assisting Ash with everything from guest lists and cake flavours, to searching numerous stores for the perfect dress.
Ash shook her head, "Every time I feel like I'm on top of it, I find something else that needs to be done. You know how everyone always says wedding planning is hard because there's so much to do?". Jayde and I both nodded, "Well believe it. Because it is 100% the truth" Ash continued with a loud sigh. "Anyway enough of that" she said, turning to Jayde and changing the subject, "What about you, what are you doing this weekend?". Jayde rolled her head around and stretched her neck, an enormous grin suddenly growing on her face "I'm doing absolutely fucking nothing" she announced loudly, dropping her arms to her sides, "And I can't bloody wait. I can't remember the last time I had a weekend at home, relaxing with me, myself and I. I've worked like, the past five weekends in a row". I laughed and tapped my chin, "Andddd whose idea was it to be a lawyer again Jayde?". This time it was Jayde's turn to roll her eyes, "Oh shut up B".
I chuckled and pulled my keys out of my bag as we reached our cars. "Well, on that note ladies, I am off. I'm exhausted from our game" Ash exclaimed with a sigh, reaching up to stretch her arms above her head, "Thank you both for a lovely dinner. It was just what I needed after this week". I smiled as Ash got into her car, "Any time babe, you know we love you. Drive safe and have a good weekend yeah?". "And make sure you actually relax this weekend!" Jayde shouted as she unlocked her black Mercedes Benz, "Have a bottle of wine...or 3!". Ash laughed and shook her head dismissively, waving to us as she drove off out of the car park. "And you B!" Jayde exclaimed loudly as she opened her car door and lifted one leg into the car, "Keep me updated on the Superman situation okay? I want every single dirty detail!". I rolled my eyes and laughed, only Jayde would say that. I waved to her as she got into her car, smiling when she blew me a kiss and drove off towards the exit of the car park.
---
I fluffed up my pillow behind me and leaned back in bed, picking up my phone to respond to Henry's latest message. We'd been texting back and forth since I'd gotten home from dinner, talking about our days and sharing our weekend plans. I'd explained about Amy and Marc coming to visit and how I was more than likely going to have a night out with them tomorrow, and he'd explained how he had a busy weekend of meeting and press planning for his latest TV show called The Witcher. He'd apologized in his latest message saying that he and Kal wouldn't be out walking tomorrow because he had an early start, the feeling of disappointment suddenly settling in my stomach knowing that I wouldn't get to see Henry again for a few days. I looked down at Kyah as she lay curled in a ball in her bed beside mine, deciding that I'd still get up and take her for a morning walk even though we wouldn't get to see our new friends. I reached down to stroke her fluffy head with my free hand as my fingers hovered over the screen, thinking about what to say to Henry in response. The beep of a new message sounded and I turned back to my phone, a second message from Henry suddenly popping up on the screen. Almost instantly, the feeling of disappointment in my stomach was replaced by one of excitement.
I was wondering if you were free at all next week? I'd love to take you to dinner or perhaps grab a drink?
I let out a small excited squeal, grinning when Kyah lifted her head to look up at me curiously. Henry Cavill was asking me on a date! I fought the urge to hug myself, all of a sudden feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. Jayde was right, I had to look at the positives here - a million and one females would kill to be in my position, and yet here I was getting asked out for dinner by Henry Cavill himself. Superman wanted to take me out on a date! I grinned and inhaled deeply, forcing myself to remember that he was still in essence a normal human male and that this should be like any other guy that had ever asked me out on a date. Letting out a heavy breath I forced myself remain composed, my fingers flying across the screen as I typed a simple message in response;
That sounds lovely. Do you have a particular night that would suit you? Tuesday would work well for me, otherwise Friday?
---
We sent a few more messages back and forth - me joking that perhaps he should be the one to pick the day since he was probably significantly busier than I was, and him eventually making the executive decision for dinner on Tuesday night. Several more texts and a mutual decision to figure out logistics closer to the date, we both decided it was finally time to call it a night. I smiled to myself as I typed my final message to Henry, thanking him again for the mug and letting him know that I was also very much looking forward to Tuesday. Putting down my phone and flicking off my bedside lamp, I lay back on my pillow and shook my head in disbelief. I had a date with Henry Cavill! Unable to wipe the smile from my face, I closed my eyes and before long felt myself begin to drift off to sleep, the image of Henry's gorgeous blue eyes burnt into my brain.

Hey, there summer boy. I’m a busy girl who doesn’t have too much time for fun. Maybe just for this time, I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine. Don’ t be sad when the sun comes up and you wake up to find me not around, I had to go. But you promised to pay me back for last night and we still have all summer after all.
The days following Jungkook’s and I event on the beach, he messaged and called me excessively. At first, he tried to apologize, then began to dismiss the topic and was only trying to get my attention. I ignored all efforts to communicate and avoided unwanted encounters. After four days of rejection and silence on my side, he stopped trying completely; then by the sixth day, I began to miss him.
I had myself locked inside the house and sometimes only my room. My friends began to worry since I had failed to speak with them at all. I sometimes heard some of the guys over; mostly Jimin, Namjoon, and Hobi but never Jungkook. The days or nights I was cooped up in my room, I found myself peeking out my windows to look into his. My window was unlocked but the blinds were closed and I only ever saw the door to his room. The lights were off most of the time I checked and I wonder if he was in there in the dark like I was.
It was one of those nights I went to bed early, just as the sun was going down, but I really just laid there in bed. I drifted in and out of slumber when I eventually, I woke up to laughing and a cold sweat. My room was dark and the only crack of light came from under my door. Faint talking could be heard from the living room and I recognized Jin’s laugh instantly. I sighed, missing the good times we all spent together but I couldn’t find the courage to make the move to face them. I was too embarrassed with what I have become over the last week; when I normally wouldn’t care.
I decided to go back to sleep, pushing the covers off my sweaty neck down to my waist.
-
"I don’t know. Jungkook said he would meet us here…“
I almost didn’t hear what Namjoon said. The drowsiness was scared out of my system as my heart stopped for a minute.
"My Kookie has been unrecognizable lately, he’s never home and is out all hours of the night,” Jin said not long after.
"Yeah, same with (Y/n)…I feel like I haven’t seen her in a week, and she hasn’t even left the house.“ The worry in Bitsy voice made me feel guilty.
"Those two really need to talk things out. I wish they weren’t so stubborn.” Jimin said.
Hearing that Jungkook was also acting out fed to my guilt as well. Why was I being such a drama queen? I wasn’t acting like myself. I was never afraid to face a conflict, but things just felt different with Jungkook involved.
I grabbed my phone and looked through the old messages from him. I wanted to text him so he could come over but it’s been so long. What if he stopped texting me because he was over it already? Which would explain the behavior Jin was talking about.
: Do you still wanna talk?
My head was beginning to ache with all my conflicting thoughts. Would he even text me back? I pulled my pillow into my chest, holding it tightly, while I closed my eyes. They were still talking but had changed the conversation. The last thing I remembered was staring at my phone screen and before knew it, I was asleep once again.
-
I woke up to a faint knocking sound, but as I came to my senses it was quite forceful. The room was still dark and it could have been nothing past midnight.
“Go away, Coco…” I mumbled into my pillow.
The knocking continued regardless, not till l allowed the sound to ring in my head, did I realize it wasn’t knocking against wood but against the glass. I pushed the blankets of my legs and went to switch on the lights. Walking over to my window, I lifted up the blinds to find Jungkook standing on the other side of them.
I stood numbly looking at him; his face was different from the last time I had seen him, he looked a bit puffier but his cheeks were blushed. I was afraid to let him in regardless if the window was open. He had no specific expression on his face but it still held a gentle and unsure look. For a moment he looked away from me and back to reach into a book bag, I hadn’t even noticed he had on. My head tilted with my brows scrunched when he pulled out a full bottle of Jack Daniels, holding it up for me as if it was a way in. I bit the inside of me cheek still hesitating to let him in. Jungkook paused for a moment before once more reaching into his bag, this time pulling out a single can of coca cola with a slight shrug of his shoulders.
“It’s open.” I turned away from him, walking to bed, and hearing the window open as I sat at the edge.
I rested my back against the headboard while I drank down all the water I had on my nightstand. Tapping my fingers against the now empty glass while Jungkook opens up the bottle of Jack. He scooted closer to me offering to pour me some and I stopped him halfway up the glass. I reached in his bag that was sitting between us for the can of coke and filling up the rest of my cup. I watch Jungkook take a swing straight from the bottle resetting it at the opposite side of the bed. I took a drink from my cup as well, the over sweet cola making the harsh whiskey more bearable.
“(Y/n)…” My eyes shifted towards him. Jungkook was sitting with his knees spread and the bottle held between both hands. He was staring at the brown liquor sway in its glass prison. “I don’t know…what you think that was on the beach but-”
Jungkook stopped speaking for a moment, unsure of himself and what he wanted to say. I took another sip from my cup to find the strength to go through the conversation. “I just hate this wall you put between us before anything could even happen.”
His eyebrows were knitted, he was frustrated with the situation at hand. I didn’t know how to explain to him that it wasn’t anything personal, at least not at first. I couldn’t deny that my distance from him had grown from what I first intended it to be. I knew what he was feeling- how he was feeling.
“You’re right.” I took a gulp of my drink allowing it to burn in my throat. “What I’m doing isn’t fair, and the last thing I wanted was for it to bother you so much.”
I could see that it was hard for Jungkook to be so honest about how he felt. I could see the hurt in his eye whether he tried to hide it.
“I like you.”
I gulped at his sudden words, looking away from him at all costs. “Jungkook-”
“And the only reason I would ever have the balls to admit that; besides the fact I’m a little drunk, is because I think…you might like me too.”
I ran my hand over my forehead and temples. It was obvious he had been drinking before coming here, so that was giving him an unclear mind. If he was speaking the truth, that meant things would have to end.
“Why are you trying to create something between us? This wasn’t my intention- there’s nothing between us.” I drank down what was left in my cup, trying to release some of the frustration.
“I’m not saying that,” Jungkook mumbled faintly. He leaned over to pass me the bottle so I could refill my glass. “I know what this is.”
“Jungkook, please.” I wanted to mask his words with the liquor in my cup. “All I know is there’s been a stigma around me. I have my reasons to keep my distance…”
He watches me drink straight from the bottle, where his lips had been just seconds before. “I don’t know what your reasons are but they can’t be that complicated.”
“So what if they aren’t? You think you can fix them?”
“Baby, if you’d let me, I wouldn’t hesitate.” He yanked the bottle from my hands just as I was about to go in for another gulp. “I could tell why you would doubt me.”
“Enlighten me then.” I put my cup down on the nightstand and leaned on the headboard.
“Well you aren’t the ‘single’ type,” Jungkook’s confidence was beginning to show. “The fact that you are trying so desperately to stay that way probably stems from a bad relationship.”
Normally, I would take offense for his first comment but the alcohol was buzzing my head. He was right regardless of what I thought.
“How observant of you,” I said sarcastically. He shrugged and smirked my way. “I’m afraid it’s a little more complex than that, though.”
“Why don’t you tell me about it then?” I laughed aloud intentionally. Jungkook was not easily offended to my luck. “Or should I keep guessing till I get it right?”
“Try me.”
I was very aware that Jungkook would be up for the challenge but I couldn’t stop to see the wrong in this. My alcohol tolerance wasn’t strong and yet, I wasn’t as paranoid or dramatic. But I would surely do something I would regret in the morning.
“You said you’ve only slept with two other people- I don’t necessarily believe that, though. I think you have actually only dated two people.” He was completely wrong but I was interested to know what he thought. “My guess is that you dated some asshole, who only slept with you for a couple months before he left. Then the second guy you liked after but he wasn’t interested in a serious relationship, which he probably never admitted, still, you devoted your time to him.”
Though he was wrong, Jungkook words brought back unwanted memories. Ones that flared anger in my heart and only feed my paranoia. I grabbed my drink and only wanted to bury myself in its poison. Jungkook spoke with confidence but when I failed to respond, he noticed the change on my face.
“Do you think I’m that stupid?” I said with spite. I was that stupid but it angered me that he could see it. He saw the tears build in my eyes before I looked away from him.
“No.” He said noticing his mistake. He placed the now half empty bottle to the floor, moving up the bed a bit more. “I think you’re strong.” I was keeping the tears on the brim of my eyes. “But you’re scared of your feelings cause of what he did to you.”
He sat on his knees beside me, hesitating to go any further. Jungkook was growing closer, wanting to comfort me but I rejected his affection in embarrassment. I was stubbornly full of pride; I hated others pity and sympathy for my stupid choices. My head was beginning to flutter with all different emotions. I was no longer crying about my ex but about everything else. How things with Jungkook would never work out; not a relationship, not even a friendship. I hated the fact that he wanted me in a different way than I was using him. But he was the reason I was thinking that I didn’t want to be so empty and hollow anymore.
“Jungkook, please…stop.” My voice cracked slightly under my hushed words. He tried to touch the hand on my lap but I moved it away to push some of my loose hairs back and regain my composer.
“You don’t have to hide, I won’t do anything you don’t tell me too.” I sucked in a shaky breath, turning my head to face him and met him only inches away from me. His dark chocolate eyes were scanning my face for any signs of objection as he leaned in. My lashes were wet, sticking to each other as I looked up at him and watched his eyes shut softly. I allowed his wet lips to timidly graze mine and my mouth responding erotically by nature. But the kiss wasn’t hot, it was warm and comforting; it was loving in its most innocent form. He cupped my face as a way to relax and ease my immodest behavior. I melted into his touch feeling tense and unsure of what I was getting myself into. It was just like on the beach; Jungkook wasn’t trying to establish any dominance between us, it was simply adoration. “Tell me what to do…”
Jungkook tried to pull away to speak but I kept him close because his affection was stimulating. I grabbed the back of his neck, feeling his skin shiver under my hand. My tongue playfully brushed against his, bringing him to hover over me and continue what we had in mind. I pulled on the collar of his shirt, moving my exposed legs to rubbed against his, easing him on top of me. He pulled away once I struggled to breathe, our hot breaths hitting our lips with the smell of whiskey.
“I don’t wanna be lonely anymore,” I whispered. Nudging my nose against his, I shut my eyes in hope that he would fulfill the aspiration I longed for. “I’m yours.”
There was so much more to say but nothing left to do. I gave myself over to him without a second thought. I wanted what he could give me; comfort, affection, and bliss. Despite what my emotions would be in the morning, this is what I need at the moment. A simple touch from him was enough to set me free.
Jungkook took his time savoring my lips, loving the taste of liquor and me in his mouth. His lips were so soft and just the right amount of moisture to let his tongue slip in. Jungkook leaned me down with my back against the bed. He hummed against my mouth as my hands slipped down his neck and chest. My hand rubbed under the material of his shirt, where his toned chest hid. Jungkook pulled on my waist arching my back off the mattress. His other hand ran up my leg and caressed the flesh of my thigh. He didn’t seem to mind the bit of stubble while he moved under my cotton shorts, feeling the warmth of my inner thigh. Goosebumps shivered down my spine and on my legs. Jungkook’s lips were traveling down my chin with softly pressed kisses. My hand followed the landscape that was his arms while he sucked lightly on my neck.
He paused for a moment to remove his shirt as he started to grow hot. I leaned up to attach my lips on his defined collar bones before he had even thrown the shirt behind him. Jungkook chuckled with a slight groan as his hands grabbed my waist and pushed up my thin shirt up to feel more of me. I followed in his action and removed my top. Jungkook was quick to attack my neck and chest, pushing me gently back onto the bed. His hands cupped and caressed my figure as he left a trail of kisses between the valley of my breasts.
His name left my mouth softly, he was the only thing playing in my mind. My legs tingled with the feathered kisses he left down my abdomen. He kept his eyes open the entire time, admiring my body on his way down to my navel. He stripped my of my shorts but left my damp panties on, kissing and teasing me through the fabric. I squirmed on the bed as his hot breath tickled over my clothed mound. Jungkook took his time running his hands over my thighs and hips.
“I don’t know what you’re doing to me, (Y/n).” He whispered, barely enough for me to hear him. “But I want you,” Jungkook leaned in to kiss over the wet spot on my underwear. “all the goddamn time.”
His words like honey made me whimper and move my knee up, to allow him more area between my legs. I wanted him too. Way more than I was willing to admit to him and even myself. I picked myself up to get a better look at him before he started. His gorgeous face between my thighs was a sight that would be burned into my mind forever. Jungkook smiled up at me, hooking his hand around my leg and kiss the warmest part of my thigh, still, maintaining eye contact. I moved my hand over to him, pushing his dark hair out of his eyes.
I leaned back and watched him hook his fingers around the waistband of my panties, pulling them down my knees and off my feet. He could not keep his eyes off my core, he looked at me with such lust and hunger. I could feel my face and chest grew heated with a breath caught in my mouth, trapped under my bitten lip. His hot soft mouth kissed my lips, running his tongue over the soft flesh. Jungkook’s teasing lips curled into a smile as he peered a look my way. I moaned silently in my mouth while my legs tensed and threshed beside him. He brought out his tongue to brush pass the small bud sticking out from my soaked folds. My hips jerked as he flicked his tongue against my clit, using the wet muscle to stroke against the bundle of nerves that caused me so much pleasure. His mouth worked wonders against me, wanting to make my eyes shut and cry out. The satisfaction shivered and shook throughout my body, made my core rock in flames.
“Mmm.” His lips hummed against my core as he found my wetness lower at my entrance. He tongued over my entrance while his hand spread my folds gently. The lewdest sounds were coming from his mouth as he sucked at the arousal dripping over my skin. My cheeks heated and the rest of my body screamed for more and all of him. Whines left my lips each time he opened his mouth for anything. His free hand was rubbing on my thigh to keep my legs from closing around him. My own hands were grabbing on the sheets, not knowing what else to do with them and keep them from pulling his head any closer to me. He must have had a similar feeling because his hand left my thigh and grabbed a hold of mine; he locked his fingers with mine and allowed me to squeeze as hard as I wanted. His hold was welcoming and eased me into his mouth with enjoyment instead of storming through it.
“Oh! My God…” I hissed as he licked back up my heat to wrapped his sweet lips over my clit. He groaned against my heat as he felt my hips press against him and move against his mouth. Jungkook kept his tongue out and mouth still to let me rock against his face; my abdomen tensed on and off as I tried to keep the beautiful rhythm up myself. His eyes watched me intently as I gasped for air and struggled to please myself.
I could see my wetness glisten over his lips and watched how he enjoyed licking them clean. He let go of my hand to take a hold on both of my thighs, letting my legs rest of his shoulders and beside his head. His face disappeared in between my thighs and a long moan fell past my lips. Jungkook added pressure to my heat and he lapped his mouth over it. My walls began to clench at the pleasure building over my core hoping to find my release soon. Jungkook was working just to that goal in mind when he began to quicken the motions of his tongue.
“Jungkook! Yes, yes please.” I was losing my voice as it began to fade into no words but merely sounds of ecstasy. My stomach was tightening from the violently heavy pleasure, threatening to drown my body to its numbing point. My legs started to shake around Jungkook’s head and his hands tighten around my thighs, holding me close to his mouth. He brought his hand around to my clit, using the pads of his fingers to pressed shapes into it while his mouth slipped along the rest of my skin. My heels dug into his back as my voice grew louder and everything in my head was wiped clean; except the feeling of complete and utter bliss.
“I want to wake up by your side.” Jungkook’s mumbled as he kissed up my stomach and rubbed my legs from the aftershocks of my orgasm. The pool of my heated blood was still running through my body as he came back up. I only got a quick glance of his dusky eyes before his head disappeared into the crook of my neck, kissing my clammy skin and taking my hands in his.
“Kiss me, Jungkook.” I whined softly. I found his lips with my own, cupping his strong jaw while he brushed his tongue past my lips. I could taste myself on his tongue and it only caused me to become further aroused. His denim covered hips pressed into the bare skin of my core, taking my breath away with each roll of his hips. He kissed my cheek after pulling away, watching how my eyes hazed in lust at our explicit contact. His neck veins showed through his skin when he tried to keep his groans in. He looked gorgeous with sweat forming on his face, giving him a soft glow in the light above us.
“I’m going to make you mine, (Y/n).” While he continued to kiss me cheek, his hand was working on the buttons on his pants. My hips were bucking and squirming under him and he pushed the fabric down his legs. His length was already between my folds, lubricating himself with the juices he had caused. “Can I?”
I nodded frantically, pecking his sweet lips once more before locking eyes with him. “Yes.”
He pushed his head through my entrance, my tight walls wrapped around him and throbbed. Jungkook pressed his lips against mine breathing heavily as he pushed himself the rest of the way. I gasped into the kiss, my eyes shutting at the sensation of his length filling me. I still managed to keep our lips moving through the mild thrusts, there was a lot of tongue but it didn’t feel overwhelming. Our lips pressed passionately slow, the hunger of intimacy and endearment was something I had not yet experienced with any man.
My hips pushed into the mattress each time he pushed in, only to pull out and keep the sequence going. I felt the pleasure intense when he hit the deepest parts of me, causing strange noises to erupt from my throat. I felt as if there was a cloud of misty surrounding us, in which we could only feel each other and our connecting bodies. It was a pleasure that builds like no other, it took longer but more care when in it, making it more authentic.
“I think you’re gorgeous.” Jungkook said faintly, causing my eyes to open slowly. His lids were half closed, trying to keep his eyes on me the entire way through. His bottom lip flushed red from his teeth biting into the soft flesh.
I wanted to keep kissing him but the moans leaving my mouth prohibited it. My legs caressed his while his hips pushed between my thighs. His thick brows and damped hair framed his lightly tanned skin. Jungkook’s gripped my hand at the same time he began to push into me harder. The sound of his skin hitting against mine joined the heavy breathing and moans in the room. With a single arm, he tugged at my lower back and brought my hips up to meet his. Our locked hands were resting pinned beside my head. I rocked my body against him the way he liked. My heat was becoming sore and raw from the friction between us but it only added to the pleasure. I could feel myself begin to sink into him emotionally, normally scared to, but now I only wanted to fall in deep.
Jungkook kissed along my jaw, lips pressing soft wet kisses as far as he could reach. My free hand was wrapped around his broad shoulders; only wanting to keep him and never let this end. Short on breath, he still managed to whisper sweet praises in my ear. Making me feel like I was the only women in the world for him. My legs shook on and my only response was to wrap them around his hips.
“Fuck! Baby…” Jungkook groaned, shutting his eye for the first time. He took in a sharp breath between thrusts and swallowed hard. “You’re going to make me come.”
He pressed his entire body against me, hips to hips and chest to chest. His pelvis was grinding hard into my most sensitive skin and my breasts only moved along with his body each time.
“Don’t stop…Jungkook, please.” My orgasm was approaching slowly but strongly. I couldn’t make words in my head much less speak them. My voice had turned into a symphony of crying pleasure as it snuck up my body. Soon I was moaning with every thrust and every second my body was at its highest point of stimulation and sensitivity. I held him close as I was coming to my end, as was he. My ankles locked around him and I kept him still in me with only minimal movement. Our cores connected and throbbed together was enough to lose ourselves in each other.
My mind was wiped clean and my body gave in to him, convulsing with bliss and delight. I could feel Jungkook spill his warm seed in me, a sensation I was not familiar with but enjoyed to its fullest.
My heart was beating fast against his chest, where he was surely doing the same. Our hands were still locked but the grip was loose as our bodies became numb. Jungkook’s face was hidden in the crook of my neck with almost his full weight on top of me. My body was burning up but I didn’t want him to move; he did, however, pull himself out of me, leaving only an empty feeling behind. I removed my hand from his and wrapped it over the other one.
“Don’t leave me.” Tears were welling in my eyes as he lifted his face for me to see. I pushed his hair aside and caressed his delicate features.
“You want me to stay?” Jungkook asked hoping he heard correctly. His eyes were tired but full of joy when I nodded my head. He kissed my lips, wrapping his arms around my body and pulled me on top of him as he rolled onto his back. I looked down at him with an embarrassing big smile on my face. Jungkook’s eyes creased at the corners, showing off his adorable bunny smile. I made myself comfortable in his arms and beside him as he pulled the sheets over us.
-
The last thing I remembered was that kiss before we said goodnight. The warmth and dampness of Jungkook’s naked skin against my own. I remember looking forward to waking up with him still asleep and his arms still holding me.
But when I did wake up and found him sleeping in my bed; the only feeling I was met with was remorse.

Truth or Dare
Gift Type: Fan Fiction Title: Truth or Dare Author: @ramblesandreblogs Recipient: @tonystarkjpg Rating: Teen Warnings: References to Underage Drinking (is that a warning? it’s late. i’m sorry. all these parenthesis are stupid) Word Count: 5.4k Summary: Certain truths about Connor and Oliver come to light during a New Year’s Eve game of Truth or Dare. Author’s Note: Hi Nive! You requested a high school AU and I tried my best! :) Hope you enjoy it. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all!! xoxo
~~~
“I can’t believe you are making me do this.”
Laurel rolled her eyes as she and Oliver made their way down the sidewalk. “Come on, Oliver. Don’t be like that. It’s gonna be fun.”
He glared at her and shoved his hands in his pockets. “You and I have very different definitions of fun.”
She smiled beautifully at him and tucked a hand around his arm. “We do,” she agreed. “I think things like New Year’s Eve parties are fun—”
“Torture.”
“And you think things like staying home and ringing in the New Year working on college applications is fun.”
“A productive use of a night off.”
Laurel laughed and the sound echoed in the still night, bouncing off snow covered roofs and sparkling holiday lights. “God. I love you.” She squeezed his arm close and tilted her head on his shoulder. “‘Productive use of a night off.’”
Oliver bristled a that. “What?” What was the matter with that?
What was the matter with spending a night in to get ahead on his applications? His mom was out with her boyfriend (presumably doing things Oliver didn’t want to think about) and his dad was spending the holiday skiing with his new family in Colorado. Instead of feeling bummed about the idea of spending New Year’s Eve alone, Oliver had been a little excited about having the condo to himself for a few hours. Ordering in whatever food he wanted (regardless of Jeremy’s newfound veganism), working on polishing up his application essays, and maybe catching up on Netflix. The whole evening had sounded perfect until Laurel had begun relentlessly messaging him and dragged him out of his warm nest of solitude.
“Those application dates are going be here faster than you know,” he reminded her.
“I know.” Laurel rolled her eyes again but with affection this time. “But they aren’t tomorrow.”
Oliver let her lead him up the driveway and down the walk until they were almost there, Michaela Pratt’s front door.
“She didn’t invite me,” he whispered to Laurel, fast and a touch frantic. They were almost at the front door; his window of bailing was getting smaller and smaller.
“Who? Michaela?” Laurel stopped and turned, blinking at him with wide eyes. “Yes she did.” And she had. Laurel had been standing at Oliver’s side at the time, witness to the whole thing.
Oliver shook his head. “No. She—” He thought back onto that scene just a few days ago.
It had been the last day of school before break and they’d been at their lockers. Laurel was hanging back, waiting for him finish collecting his stuff before she drove them both home, when Michaela approached. The Homecoming Queen had been radiant as she told Laurel that her parents had decided at the last minute to visit an aunt for New Year’s and how she was going to have the house to herself.
“It’s gonna be small,” Michaela had explained to Laurel. “Just a couple of us on New Year’s. Connor and Wes. Maybe Asher. I’m thinking Sarah and Nat but then I’d have to invite Chelsea and I don’t know if I want to get into all that and—Oh!” Michaela had spotted Oliver lingering a few feet away. “You too, of course!” she had said with a smile.
“She did it just to be polite,” Oliver said to Laurel now as they were paused in front of Michaela’s house. “She didn’t really mean it. It was just not to be rude.”
Laurel snorted. “You really don’t know Michaela at all, do you?”
“Laur—”
“Michaela doesn’t do anything she doesn’t want to,” she told him. “If she didn’t want you here, she would have ignored you. Believe me. I’ve seen it before.”
That didn’t make Oliver feel any better. He tugged at his sleeves, refusing to touch his hair. He’d actually spent time on it, okay? He didn’t need to walk in with it looking mussed. “It’s just—”
She put a hand on his arm. “You’ll be fine. I’ll be there.”
But Laurel was able to move in this circle and Oliver would never be able to fully explain to her that he just couldn’t. She had the uncanny ability to jump social strata, move from clique to clique without a second thought and he just didn’t. He didn’t belong here. He wasn’t built for spending New Year’s Eve at the home of the Homecoming Queen and her friends. He’d make a fool out of himself. A total fool. This group starred in the musicals and were on the starting line of the football team and ran the school paper and all already had full rides to the Ivy League. Oliver was a second-tier nerd who ran the tech booth during plays and never set a toe out of line.
He opened his mouth to tell all this to Laurel but she beat him to it.
“You’ll be fine. We’re going in.” Tugging on his arm, she rang the bell. “Just try to loosen up a little,” she said. “Just…Have some fun. What’s the worst that could happen?”
~~~
He was going to kill her.
“You did what?”
Michaela’s smile was a picture of innocence. “I invited Oliver Hampton,” she repeated. “Why? Is that a problem?”
Connor’s eyes narrowed as Michaela kept smiling. He was going to kill her. And he was going to enjoy it.
He’d known confessing his stupid crush had been a mistake. He’d known letting her in on the secret was dangerous. She’d just caught him during a moment of weakness is all.
Connor’d been distracted all those weeks ago as they walked to class. Oliver had been a few feet ahead of them — navigating the crowded halls on his own way to the next class — and Connor just hadn’t been able to look away.
“Connor?”
He’d hummed in answer to Michaela, too caught up in his own ridiculous fantasy to properly acknowledge her.
“God,” she had huffed. “What’s so fascinating?”
“Oliver’s ass,” Connor had answered absently, still not looking away from the beauty before him. Then his mind caught up to his mouth. “Oh fuck!” When he’d turned to look at her, Michaela’s eyes were wide and dancing with glee. “You didn’t—”
“I did!” The hand on his arm had been immediate, the grip fierce. “You have to tell me everything!”
“Mic—”
“Everything!!”
And so Connor had, reluctantly at first but quickly losing the hesitation when he realized how good it felt to actually talk about it with someone. Putting the feelings he’d been harboring for…Christ, for months now into words had been freeing.
But freedom came with price and apparently tonight was the night Connor paid up.
“I can’t believe you did this,” he said to Michaela. Then, turning to Wes. “Can you believe she did this?”
“What? Inviting Oliver?” Wes asked without looking up from his phone. “What’s the big deal? Oliver’s cool. He’s coming with Laurel, right?”
Michaela’s smile was indulgent. She had a soft spot for those two but knew they’d get there eventually. “She’ll be here. Don’t you worry.”
Wes shot Michaela a pointed look. “I’m not worried.” He turned back to his phone. “Besides, thought you’d be happy Oliver’s coming,” he said to Connor.
“I’m not unhappy,” Connor was quick to say. “It’s just—I’m—Why should I be happy?”
That made Wes glance up. “Well, you like the guy, right?”
Connor’s eyes found Michaela’s instantly. She told—She told Wes! Connor’d told her that in confidence. He couldn’t believe— “You told him!”
She held her hands up. “I didn’t. Connor, I swear I didn’t.”
“I can’t believe this, Mic. You—”
“She didn’t tell me,” Wes said.
“Then who did?” Connor demanded.
“No one. I just…” He gave a shrug. “Just figured it out.”
“How?” Connor demanded, louder this time. “How did you figure it out?”
“How’d who figure what out?” a new voice asked from the entryway.
Three heads turned to see Asher enter. He tugged off his hat and tucked it into the sleeve of his jacket as Michaela rounded on him.
“I don’t know about you but guests normally use the bell here.”
Asher’s smile held a secret and it was all for here. “Aww, Michaela. I figured I’d moved beyond guest status.”
Micheala’s only answer was a telling blush and Connor made a note to interrogate her about that later.
“What are we talking about?” Asher asked, tossing his coat over the back of a chair. “Who’s figuring what out?”
Connor started to answer, “Nothing,” but Wes was quicker.
“I figured out Connor’s hung up on Oliver.”
Connor’s eyes widened and his heart nearly stopped. What the hell was Wes doing just blurting things out like that? What did—
“Oh. That,” Asher said dismissively. “What else is new?”
“Wha—” Connor couldn’t form words, couldn’t think.
“How did you—I didn’t even know!” Michaela nearly shouted. “How did you two know when I didn’t know?”
“Well, how’d you find out?” Wes asked.
“He told me,” she said, gesturing to Connor. “He told me everything, made me swear to keep it secret, and I didn’t tell a soul.” She said it casually but Connor knew it to be true. Michaela may be one of the school’s biggest gossips but she knew how to keep her mouth shut when it mattered. “I’m the best friend. I’m supposed to know these things first.”
“Well, you didn’t have bio with them,” Asher said. “I didn’t even know you could make heart eyes at someone during an enzyme lab but our boy Walsh here pulled it off.”
The comment made Connor pause. He and Oliver had shared a bio class freshman year, two years ago. He hadn’t liked Oliver then…had he?
“What about you?” Asher asked Wes.
“Orchestra,” he answered with a shudder. “Connor was third chair, Oliver was first, and I was the sucker stuck between them. Longest year of my life.”
Okay. Connor knew that was bullshit because he hadn’t been in orchestra in years. He’d dropped it during junior high because it hadn’t been fun anymore.
“Then, Oliver dropped it and things got worse,” Wes went on. “Had to suffer on for one more semester with this guy’s—” he pointed to Connor, “dark cloud hanging over my head before he dropped out too.”
Connor opened his mouth to explain to Wes that, No, he hadn’t dropped orchestra because Oliver dropped it too. He’d dropped it because he hadn’t enjoyed it anymore. It’d had nothing to do with Oliver…or had it?
“Awww.” Asher slapped Connor on the shoulder. “You miss your boo, Boo?”
“Fuck you.” Connor slapped his hand away.
Fuck all of them actually. This was such crap. Wes and Asher were wrong. They…they were just wrong. He and Oliver had started to hang out a little more over the summer and his stupid little crush thing had just sort of appeared from that. He hadn’t been crushing on Oliver in fucking junior high. He hadn’t had some ridiculous crush on the guy for all these years. That was just ridiculous. No, they were ridiculous.
“You both are so full of shit,” Connor started. Then the doorbell pealed and the words died on his lips. He was here. Oliver was here. “I—”
“No one says anything.” Michaela pointed a finger at Wes and then Asher. Wes nodded immediately but Asher…
“I mean it,” she said, finger still locked on Asher. The words were whispered with such venom that Connor found himself swallowing reflexively even though they were clearly directed at Asher and Asher alone.
“Ash—” she began in warning.
“I got it,” he answered quickly, his voice breaking a little. He coughed to cover it but they all heard. “Not a word. I swear.”
She gave him one more warning glance. “Okay. Good.” Then, Michaela clapped her hands together once and headed for the door. “Let’s get this party started!”
~~~
Have some fun. What’s the worst that could happen?
Laurel’s voice echoed in Oliver’s head as he looked around the room.
The ‘small’ party Michaela had promised didn’t seem all that small to him. Dozens of people littered the couches and chairs of her parent’s living rooms (rooms! plural!) and even more spilled down into the basement.
Somewhere in the midst of them all, Oliver had lost Laurel. He’d turned to ask if she wanted a refill only to find her gone. It had only taken a moment to spot her again, her smile and laugh tended to catch the eye. She was standing next to Wes across the way and, looking at them, watching them smile at each other, Oliver hadn’t had the heart to walk over and burst their bubble.
So he’d set about the party on his own. He wasn’t a child that needed to cling to Laurel’s apron strings. He went to school with all these people; he spent at least a class with nearly all of them. He didn’t need her to make introductions or hold his hand. By some stroke of luck, he, Oliver Hampton, was at what was turning out to be a pretty great New Year’s Eve party and he was going to try and have some fun.
What was the worst that could happen?
“Oliver!”
He automatically turned at his name and found his host waving him over.
“Come here,” Michaela called. “Come on.”
Dodging the drinks and gesturing hands of others, Oliver cut through the crowd to Michaela’s side. “Hey. Great party. Thanks for inviting me.”
“Of course! I’m so glad you came!” She said it with such enthusiasm that Oliver was pretty sure she was being sincere. Then, “Have you seen Laurel?”
Oliver gestured back at the kitchen where he’d seen her last. “She was with Wes.”
Michaela smiled but she didn’t move. “Figures.” Then, “We’re getting a game together.”
Something about the look in her eyes made the hair on the back of Oliver’s head stand on edge. “What kind of game?”
“A secret game,” she answered with a wink. “Come on. It’ll be fun.” She took his wrist and started tugging him along into the more formal living room.
“I don’t know, Michaela…”
“Don’t even worry about it.” She waved at the couch. “Just take a seat.”
Giving her one final, wary look, Oliver crossed the room to nab the last open seat on the couch, the seat right next to Connor Walsh. Trying not to draw attention to himself, Oliver settled in his seat and focused on breathing.
He hadn’t been fully honesty before, with himself or with Laurel. His reservations about coming tonight had nothing to do with the way Michaela had asked him or a general concern about the people who were going to be here. Oliver hadn’t been nervous about having fun or making conversation with others from school; yes he was a little shy but, under normal circumstances, he wasn’t completely inept. No, all of Oliver’s reasons for not wanting to come tonight were sharing a couch cushion with him.
Connor Walsh.
It wasn’t that Oliver didn’t like Connor, quite the opposite really. Oliver had been holding onto the most ridiculous crush on Connor for…well he wasn’t exactly sure when it had started but it’d been going on for too long now. It was embarrassing really.
Before realizing his feelings, Oliver’d always felt at ease with Connor in a way he didn’t with anyone else. It was like being around Connor somehow made Oliver forget that he was shy and a little nerdy and that he’d been told not to smile so big because it made his teeth look funny. Connor didn’t make Oliver feel as self-conscious as he normally did. Connor made him feel funny and fun and more like himself than he did with other people. That was it. Connor made Oliver feel like the best version of himself. It had been wonderful and freeing.
Then Oliver had gone and ruined it all be realizing he liked Connor.
Just like that it all went away. The easy communication and carefree friendship were gone overnight. All they were left with was awkward exchanges in the hall and stilted conversation the few times Laurel convinced Oliver to join her and the others at lunch.
It was horrible. And no matter how many pep-talks he gave himself or the countless times he played out conversations in his head, Oliver could never seem to find his tongue around Connor anymore.
It was horrible and humiliating and now they were stuck sitting next to each other at a New Year’s Eve party, waiting for Michaela Pratt to begin some mysterious game.
“She give you any hints?”
Connor’s voice in his ear nearly made Oliver jump and he turned. “What?”
The other man nodded at Michaela. “She give you anything?”
Oliver shook his head. “No. Why?” He risked a glance at Michaela. “Should we be worried or something?”
“I haven’t decided yet,” Connor said ominously. “I—”
“Alright, everyone! Listen up.” Michaela’s voice silenced all chatter in the room. “I know you’re all wondering about tonight’s game, which is…” She said the words slowly, heightening the suspense until Asher broke the silence with, “Just tell us already, Mic!”
“…Truth or Dare.”
~~~
He was going to kill her.
He’d been lying when he thought it before, thinking dramatically and in hyperbole, but Connor wasn’t lying this time.
He was going to kill her and he was really going to enjoy it. Really really enjoy it.
He’d bet every cent in his bank account that she’d arranged this whole little thing to torture him. The party, the game, sitting Oliver down next to him, close enough that Connor kept catching whiffs of the man’s cologne when he turned his head, all of it had been arranged to torture him.
And — damn it all to hell — it was working.
Connor couldn’t think straight, couldn’t breathe. Every sinew of his body was attuned to Oliver. Oliver’s scent in his nose. The brush of Oliver’s skin when their arms touched. The way Oliver’s laugh shook his whole frame. The ghost of Oliver’s breath whispering over his cheek. Throw in a middle school party game and Connor Walsh was in the middle of his own personal hell.
The game itself was fun; the waiting for Michaela to drop the other shoe was not.
Sure. He’d laughed when Wes was dared to tickle Asher until the man couldn’t breathe. He winced when Katherine had been made to tell her most embarrassing story. He watched in awe and disgust when Laurel’d downed a shot of hot sauce like was water to fulfill her a dare.
Then, without cause or warning, she did it.
The game had swung around and it was her turn to pick a victim. “I pick…” She tapped a manicured finger against his chin and Connor held his breath. “Paxton!”
The way she said his name made Connor’s spine snap to attention. He’d been expecting Mic to pick him or Oliver but both of them were too obvious. Paxton though…
“Dare!” The man said with a wolfish grin.
“Dare, huh?” Michaela pretended to think for a beat then her eyes latched on Connor’s and she shot him an evil grin, a grin Connor was coming to despite. “Do a body shot off Oliver.”
For the briefest of moments, the room fell silent, then exploded into noise. Under all the shouting and hollering, Connor picked up the quietest voice.
“I—I’m not sure if—”
His eyes found Oliver’s and his gaze never wavered. “You don’t have to.” Connor didn’t dare blink or breathe. It was vital Oliver knew this. No one in this room would make him do anything he didn’t want to and, if they tried, Connor would deal with them.
“No. That’s not it,” Oliver said softly. He tugged at the hem of his shirt. “It…it’s just—”
Seeing his would-be-partner’s obvious hesitation, Paxton was quick to cut in. “Don’t worry, Ollie.” He crossed the room and took a seat on the edge of the couch, between Oliver and Connor. “I’ll be gentle.”
More than one person snorted and Pax threw a glare over his shoulder.
“How?” Connor demanded. He didn’t care if his tone was too harsh, too telling.
Pax’s answering smirk was knowing. Great. Yet another person who’d figured out his stupid crush. “You’ll just have to wait and see.”
At that moment, Michaela reentered the room. Connor hadn’t noticed she left but she returned with a salt shaker, shot glasses, and tequila.
“We don’t have any limes,” she said apologetically to Pax as she poured him a shot.
“Pity.” He took the glass and smiled at Oliver. “We’ll just have to do without, won’t we.”
For his part, Oliver looked like he’d lost a bit the nervousness from moments ago. “I guess so,” he murmured quietly and accepted the shot glass from Pax.
“You just hold that,” Pax said absently as he looked away to grab the salt shaker from Michaela’s outstretched hand. Turning back, he plastered on a smile Connor imagined Pax thought of as gentle before speaking directly to Oliver. “Now, I’m going to lick right along here.” He trailed a light fingertip down the side of Oliver’s neck and Connor was sitting close enough to small goosebumps rise up in wake of the touch. “Is that okay?”
Oliver licked his lips. “Yeah.”
“Good.”
Pax leaned in and Oliver tilted his head to the side, allowing Pax access. Connor’s hands curled into fists as he watched Pax’s tongue lick Oliver’s neck until the damp spot shone in the light. Connor watched Pax’s lips ghost of Oliver’s skin. He watched that tongue press again, lingering and tasting, savoring just a touch. Connor couldn’t bring himself to look away; he watched it all.
“That’s good enough I think,” Pax said as he sat back. He lifted the salt shaker up and raised an eyebrow, silently asking Oliver if it was okay. When Oliver gave a small nod, he sprinkled some salt over the wet patch on Oliver’s neck. “Now, to get all that off you.”
He didn’t ask permission this time but Oliver was quick to tilt his head to the side again, freely offering, and Pax’s answering grin was wicked. As he leaned down, Pax shifted just a touch so he could catch Connor’s eye. The bastard had the audacity to wink at him just before his lips touched Oliver’s skin.
Again, Connor watched as Pax kissed Oliver’s neck. He watched the movement of the man’s tongue and lips. He watched and wanted until he couldn’t look anymore; he couldn’t watch Pax do what he himself wanted to do.
So Connor stopped looking at Pax and looked at Oliver instead, which was so much worse. He glanced up in time to see Oliver’s eyelids flutter once then close. He watched as Oliver’s face went slightly lax with pleasure, his lips falling open just a touch, his breath catching just a bit. Glancing down, Connor saw Oliver’s hands twitch, begin to lift before he caught himself and locked his fingers together, keeping the joined fist firmly in his lap. Oliver had almost reached out. He’d almost lifted his hands so he could tangle fingers in Pax’s hair. What would that feel like? Oliver’s skin under his lips, Oliver’s scent in his nose, and then Oliver’s hands in treading through his hair and holding him close.
The thought made Connor nearly growl. Paxton shouldn’t be the one with his lips on Oliver’s neck; Connor should. Connor should be the one with his lips drinking in Oliver’s skin. And he certainly wouldn’t do it like this, in a room full of people as part of a fucking game. They would be alone, him and Oliver in a room that was quiet and warm. The bed would be soft beneath them. No one would be looking for them. No one would interrupt. He would have time in that room, all the time in the world to kiss Oliver, hold him close, watch as Oliver’s whole being melted with pleasure. He wouldn’t linger so much on Oliver’s neck. It’s a great spot Connor’s sure but there are so many other places to explore. Like Oliver’s hands. Connor’s spent many a class watching Oliver’s hands hold a pencil or type on a keyboard or tap at his phone. He wonders what those hands feel like. Are they soft or rough? Are Oliver’s fingers calloused? What would Oliver’s palm feel like under his lips, against his cheek, palm-to-palm? He’d answer all those questions and come up with dozens more in that room. Then, his curiosity sated for the moment, he would move on and there would be Oliver’s collarbone, the nape of his neck, that spot right there behind his ear, his shoulder, his chest, the run of his back. There were so many hidden places on Oliver that Connor would have time to explore in that room.
So no, Paxton shouldn’t be the one with his lips on Oliver’s. Connor should.
Pax sat back up then. Licking the salt off his lips, he winked at Oliver as he took the shot and downed it. The liquid must have burned as he went down because he winced. “See, this is why you need the lime,” he said. “Well…that and…” He placed a thumb on Oliver’s lower lip, pressing it down just a touch.Connor didn’t manage to hold back his small growl this time.
Knowing smirk firmly in place, Pax turned to Connor. “See? Gentle.”
Unsure what he was planning to do, Connor sat up, his hands curling into fists. “Really? You—”
“Alright! Let’s get back to the game.” Michaela’s voice held a hint of warning. “There isn’t much time till midnight. Let’s keep going. Pax. It’s your pick.”
“Well. I don’t there’s much choice for me.” He put a hand on Oliver’s leg, well above the knee, and squeezed. “Truth or dare, Ollie?”
With a quick glance at Connor, Oliver swallowed and blurted out, “Dare.”
“Dare. Really?” Pax stood and crossed the room, once again taking his seat on the opposite couch. “Dare. Dare. Dare.” The man gave Connor a pointed look and then said to Oliver, “Kiss Connor.”
Once again, the room was silent. This time, however, the silence wasn’t broken by shouts and laughter. It was broken by a single, vicious word.
“No.”
~~~
Oliver couldn’t breathe.
When Michaela had announced they were playing Truth or Dare, Oliver had groaned inwardly. He had one very important secret he wanted to keep from a very important person in this room but he’d still gone along with the game anyway, keeping Laurel’s advice to have fun in the back of his mind.
And, to his own surprise, he was having fun. It was fun to laugh and tease with his classmates, fun to be a part of something that was going to be a story others only heard about.
He’d even gone along with Michaela’s body shot dare. Sure he’d been a bit nervous at first but Pax had been more understanding that Oliver would have expected and Oliver himself hadn’t objected. In truth, he’d kind of enjoyed it a little. Yeah, it hadn’t really been a body shot in the ‘traditional’ sense of the word but it had been enough for him and no one had complained.
Oliver had been a good sport about it all. He’d gone along with it. He had been having fun.
What’s the worst that could happen?
This.
He turned to Connor. “No?”
Connor’s eyes never left Pax’s. “No,” he said again.
Oliver’s mouth twisted into a nervous smile. It was a reflex, trying to smile through embarrassing situations, and he had never hated it more than he did in this moment. “Come on, Connor,” he tried. “It’s not a big deal.”
“No, I—” Connor turned, blinked, and couldn’t take his eyes off Oliver’s lips. “We aren’t doing that.”
“It’s just a little kiss,” Pax said, his tone taunting. “What’s the big deal?”
“Yeah,” Oliver agreed even though something in Pax’s tone made him pause. Something else was going on here but he couldn’t worry about that now. “It’ll be just a little kiss.”
“It can’t. Not with—”
Connor didn’t finish the thought but he didn’t have too. Not with you.
Connor’s face fell as his mind caught up to his mouth and heard back what he’d said. Then he saw the look on Oliver’s face. “No. Oliver, I—”
But Oliver had heard enough. Not with you. His face hot with mortification, he stood and stormed from the room.
“Oliver! Wait!”
Being unfamiliar with the house, he made a few wrong turns in his escape and somehow ended up in the garage but it was quiet and he was alone so Oliver decided to count the move as a win.
He only had a moment to appreciate the solitude of the garage, however, before the door opened and Connor burst through.
“Listen. I can explain—”
“Why couldn’t you just kiss me?” Oliver demanded. The shock and embarrassment melted away the nerves that were normally present in Connor’s company. When Connor simply stared at him in shock, Oliver demanded again. “Why? It wouldn’t have been a big deal if you had just kissed me. Simple kiss. It would have been over and done in a moment but you couldn’t just do it. Why?”
Connor hesitated. “Be…because—”
“Because why?” He waited a beat for Connor to respond but the other man stayed silent. “Why couldn’t you kiss me? You said you couldn’t have a simple kiss with me and I want to know why. What’s so terrible about me?”
“Jesus.” Connor’s eyes raised to the ceiling. “It wasn’t you—”
“Really? Because you were talking about me. It feels like it was about me to me.“ Oliver pulled a hand through his hair. He couldn’t believe they were doing this, having this conversation, and in Michaela Pratt’s garage of all places. "It would have been simple. It would have been just a simple press—”
“Because it wouldn’t be simple!” Connor nearly yelled. “There can’t be a simple kiss with you, Oliver!”
“Why? Why not?”
“Because…Because you are you, Ollie. You’re you and I—” Connor stopped then, catching his breath. Their eyes met and held.
“You are you,” Connor repeated, quiet and true. “And…and there’s nothing simple about what I feel about you.”
~~~
Connor decided that he was maybe going to let Michaela live.
“You…” Oliver let out a noise that was half laugh and have giggle; Connor wondered what he could say to get Oliver to make it again. “You have feelings for me?”
Connor nodded and Oliver did too. “Okay,” he said, mostly to himself. “That’s…that’s good to know.”
Waiting a moment and then one more, Connor opened his mouth. “Do…” He trailed off though; he didn’t know how to ask this question. He didn’t know if he could take the answer, either answer, any answer.
Answering a question that hadn't’ been asked, Oliver said, “I do. I…I really do.”
The breath caught in his chest at the look on Oliver’s face.
Connor was going to let Michaela live because, through her meddling, she helped put that look on Oliver’s face.
“I didn’t want to kiss you in front of them,” Connor explained as he took a step closer. “I didn’t want to have our first…first—”
“Kiss,” Oliver supplied.
“Yeah.” Connor coughed, distracted by how Oliver’s lips curved as they formed the word ‘kiss.’ “I didn’t want it to be in front of all of them. I didn’t want it to be…to be like your and Pax’s thing.“
“I appreciate the concern but…” Reaching out and twining their fingers together, Oliver confessed, “I don’t think our first kiss is going to be like anything like anything else.”
Connor couldn’t help the confused quirk of his eyebrow. “What makes you think that?”
The other man shrugged. “I don’t know. Just a feeling I guess.”
“Well, do you think that maybe we should—”
Connor was interrupted by a shout inside the house. “It’s happening!” “The ball’s dropping!” “It’s almost time.”
Keeping their eyes locked on each other, they listened to those inside the house scream along with the countdown.
10…9…8…
Oliver licked his lips.
7…6…5…
Connor brushed a thumb over the back of Oliver’s hand.
4…3…2…
They squeezed each other’s hands.
1!!
A cry went up from inside, “HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!”, along with confetti poppers and noisemakers and the faint sound of Auld Lang Syne playing over the speakers.
“Happy New Year, Connor,” Oliver whispered.
“Happy New Year, Ollie.”
They leaned in then. Lips brushing, hands reaching, tongues tentatively touching.
And Oliver was right. Their first kiss was nothing like anything that had come before.
Connor was definitely letting Michaela live.
