Listen you’d think Elwing would (completely understandably and correctly) agree on like zero percent with Maglor and Maedhros but you would be wrong (I mean other than Morgoth Bad). There’s loving the twins and hating Maglor and Maedhros.

(Listen Elwing is entirely allowed to tell them to perish for the rest of eternity frankly)

(I do not believe this precludes Maglor and Maedhros like…redemption/forgiveness it’s just…Elwing Does Not Have To).

(Like as an Elrond Fan who absolutely does believe that “love grew between them” is real for Elrond and Elros I think for me the like, :gestures in biracial jewish overly relating to the line of luthien: it’s the ache of loving someone, knowing they love you but…they have caused you and others you love (Elrond and Elros’ mother! All the friends and carers and memories they have of Sirion! Their father! Them!) so so much loss and pain and the love comes from that and you think, why did they spare us? Why was it us, not the others*)

(And tangled up with the fact I think the oath was…like there was a lot of slipping into something completely out of control there, something that I think horrified M & M and they could not stop it and all of that and it doesn’t mean they aren’t culpable for what they did but they also…they were not them as well. It’s like alongside).

*Their mothers brothers for one.

(Also Elrond and Elros must have wondered (at least at first) what happens if they decide to not spare us)
