summary; you and vinnie have a nasty break up, vinnie tries to stay friends no matter the hurt, but you don’t think that is possible

you and vinnie have been together since senior year of highschool, both of you in your twenties now.

it was fun for awhile, really fun, but recently you’ve felt the mood shift in your relationship. vinnie’s been distant, and more than usual.

you’re used to him being distant job wise, but he’s been emotionally and physically distant. that’s what scares you.

the two of you live in the same house, yet you feel like it’s just you and hera at times. vinnie comes home late, stays up late, and sleeps in until way past you get home from work.

you want to make this last, but feel the relationship is way beyond repair.

“vinnie can you just listen to me for five minutes?!” you scream as the two of you walk into your shared apartment.

you slam your purse on the counter while vinnie slams the bedroom door, both of you acting like children but you won’t fully admit it.

walking to the couch, you smile when you see hera nestled against the arm. you sit down and gently grab her, placing her in your lap.

“your dad’s being a meanie.” you say to the cat as you scratch behind her ear.

hera purrs as you give her the love she’s been wanting all day, you smile as she nuzzles her head against you.

meanwhile, vinnie’s in his room, headset on as he blows off some steam streaming. it’s the one thing he can do right now that won’t piss him off.

well, besides all the comments asking where you were. his fans know the two of you live together, so saying you’re at ‘home’ would mean at his place.

right now he really wishes you didn’t live with him. you’re not even in the room yet he feels like you’re breathing down his neck.

constantly asking how he is, what he was doing out so late, why he’s sleeping in so late again.

it was like a never ending cycle, and he didn’t know what to do. he’s been drinking way more than usual, partly the reason why he’s asleep most of the day, but he’s not telling you that.

what you also don’t know is that, about two weeks ago he had stepped into a bar to get away from you and the constant bickering, but soon managed to fuck everything up.

vinnie loves you, he has since senior year of high school. he knew the relationship wouldn’t last forever, but he just further proved that weeks ago.

he didn’t mean for it to happen, he was way too drunk and way too out of it. he knows that is no excuse, but it’s the truth.

vinnie knows how much you love him, and that sometimes it hurts you because of how much you do. that’s why he hates that he has to tell you this.

it wasn’t just one mere little kiss, it was more than that, and that’s why he’s so scared to tell you.

vinnie was the first person you allowed to see you, and he knew that meant a lot to you. he knows that once you know that he did more than just kiss another woman, it’s going to completely ruin you.

“guys i’m hoppin’ off for the night, ill be back in a few days.” vinnie told his chat before turning off the stream for the night.

he realized he needed to tell you the truth on why he’s been so distant in all aspects.

carefully opening his bedroom door, he sees you curled up on the couch with hera. he smiles to himself, this sight definitely not helping the screaming match that’s about to occur.

he almost doesn’t want to wake you, knowing you need the sleep since you barely get it nowadays.

he can’t, though. you two need to talk this out, whether it’s actually talking or arguing, it needs to be done.

“baby, hey,” vinnie can’t help but use the infamous pet name as he shakes you awake softly. “wake up.”

you stir awake, rubbing your eyes as you look up at your boyfriend. “ hey, you.” you say sheepishly.

it was almost as if you didn’t yell at him an hour ago, for what you cannot remember.

hera wakes up too and walks on the arm of the couch and nuzzles her head on her dad’s tattooed hand.

vinnie picks her up and cradles her in his arms as if she’s an actual baby. after a few minutes he sets her on the ground and he sits beside you.

“we need to talk.”

“you..what..?” you’re baffled at what your boyfriend just explained to you.

you can’t help but let out a weak laugh on instinct. vinnie looks at you, a puzzled expression clearly written all over his face.

you stand up, pacing in a circle as you try to take in what vinnie said. you can’t focus, you can’t think, absolutely nothing is going on in your head.

“so, you’re telling me that the reason you’ve been so distant in both ways — emotionally and physically — is because you’ve been fuckin’ someone else?!”

that is definitely not the news you thought it would’ve been. you thought it would’ve been like he said — him out at a club for most of the day and getting too drunk to comprehend anything. definitely not cheating.

“bab-no!” you cut him off with a loud yell, almost scaring yourself. “you do not get to ‘baby’ me when you know how important losing my virginity meant to me! you were the first guy to show me true, genuine, unconditional love, and you decide to just throw it away?”

tears began to flood your vision, nothing made sense. were all those years just nothing to him? you thought you’d marry him, mother his children, apparently he didn’t think that far ahead.

vinnie sighs as he holds his head in his hands. “i know i fucked up.” you hear him mumble.

you scoff, crossing your arms over your chest. “you did more than fucked up, vinnie.” he looks up at you as you practically stare daggers into his eyes.

he can feel your hurt, he understands. this happened to him years ago with past relationships, yet he doesn’t know why he did it.

vinnie stands and walks to you. “sorry can’t fix this, i know. please just hear me out.”

you roll your eyes. you don’t want to hear it. how can he justify sleeping with someone else while with you.

“i don’t wanna fuckin’ hear it, vinnie,” you sigh. you go to the kitchen counter and grab your purse.

“sweetheart, dont go, come on.” vinnie grabs your purse from your hold. “i don’t wanna fight-“

“well too late because we’re past that. should’ve thought of that before you cheated.”

the urge to break down in tears is so strong, and you almost did. you don’t want to show him your hurt, even if he can see it already.

you grab your purse from vinnie and put it back on the counter. vinnie smiles at you, glad you’re not leaving, but you just give him a glare as you walk by.

“can you please let me explain?” vinnie asks as the two of you sit on the couch, hera following and sitting on your lap.

sighing heavily, you nod your head, letting him know that he can explain to you.

“we’ve been fighting nonstop for weeks, i needed to relive the stress. one drink lead to two, two lead to three and before i could think i’m with this girl and we’re..”

you sob quietly into your palm at the thought of vinnie with someone else. vinnie looks at you sympathetically, hurting all over at the fact he just broke your trust.

“why couldn’t you just come to me? you didn’t need to shut me out. vinnie, we haven’t done anything in weeks, and this is why?”

you’re so confused. you don’t know what’s going on in his head but you know he needs help.

“i was scared, scared of this exact reaction. i had no doubt you were going to flip out like that, but i just didn’t want to lose you.”

except now he knows he’s about to. maybe if it was just an innocent kiss the two of you could’ve talked it out and made up. it was way more than that, though.

you stay silent for a long time and that makes his anxiety skyrocket, wondering what you’re thinking.

you’re thinking that the man you quite literally gave yourself to for the past few years just completely shattered your heart and betrayed your trust.

“we can work— no, vinnie, we can’t work this out!” you shout at him as tears escape your eyes.

all he wants to do is hug and comfort you. vinnie absolutely hates seeing you upset, and seeing as you’re upset because of him is a different kind of hurt.

you scoff, wondering how he could even think that the two of you can try to mend this problem.

“i’ve loved you since i was eighteen and we’re almost twenty-three. do you know how much that hurts me?” your voice cracks as you speak, making vinnie’s heart ache.

he sighs, obviously understanding. “it hurts me just as much as you, sweetheart.” there it is, the pet name. you don’t have it in you to tell him it hurts way more when he uses them.

you’re silent for a moment and that only makes vinnie’s anxiety skyrocket. he doesn’t know what you’re thinking, other than that you can no longer trust him.

“i need a minute.” you say as you wipe your tear stained cheeks.

you walk and grab your purse off the counter, vinnie watching as you do. he doesn’t stop you though, he knows you need space.

hours passed and you finally returned back to the apartment. vinnie gives you a weak smile when he sees you enter the room. you reciprocate, putting your head down after.

you walk to the couch and pet hera who is sleeping. you smile at the cat, realizing just how much you’ll miss her.

“i know this can’t be fixed,” you breathe in heavily when you hear him speak for the first time in hours. “but could we still be friends?”

you almost want to bust out laughing at his question. he hurt you this bad and he still wants to remain friends?

“i don’t think that’s a good idea.” you say truthfully.

vinnie understands completely, he thought he could at least try to ask.

the room falls silent for a few minutes before vinnie speaks. “so this is it?” he asks.

you nod your head with a small smile. “i have a friend i can stay with until i find my own place, it won’t be long.” you tell him.

he nods and soon the two of you head into his room so you can start packing up your things.

even though the two of you can’t be friends, he can still pretend, right?

we can’t be friends, but i’d like to just pretend.

Silent Hill 2 commentary: Western South Vale (2)

PREVIOUSLY ON: James gets roasted by an eight-year-old who knows too much; Special Places, statues with stories, hidden music, and MARIA. 

Spoiler policy: Just about anything but That One Big Thing near the end of the game, particularly information about characters, their motives, and their dynamics. The game’s eight endings may also be discussed. Content notes are below the cut.

Content notes: The premise of the game involves mentions of terminal illness and suicidal ideation, but it's subtle and not graphic. For this video as a whole, the combat involves the usual bloodshed, acid vomit (no explosions), monster body horror, plank and now pipe melee, and handgun shooting. In the last post/half hour of the video, there's a discussion of alcoholism at a bar, with allusions to alcohol abuse throughout the game. In this post, I have pictures of a handwritten note smeared with blood and some of the monsters; there's a brief discussion of suicidal ideation with that note.

1:02:33: I hate that I say exactly the same things to Maria that every other Let's Player does, but it's hard not to snap one-word answers back at her. "I'm almost getting used to you smashing windows. "GOOD, MARIA." "Again?" "YES, MARIA." "Can you warn me next time?" "SMASH, MARIA."

Another great Silent Hill 2 Remake tradition is shouting, "GET OUT OF THE WAY MARIA!" For whatever reason, she is constantly running into you, or in your path, or between you and the monster you're trying to save her from. That being said, I don't think I say that once in this video, despite usually yelling it a minimum of ten times. 

1:04:40: Maria: "Wrong way, we already passed the motel." "OOPS!" Our first fight of the day is a mannequin hiding in a vehicle repair shop next door. It comes at you from around a post at an unideal angle, and I have ended up battling it all around the courtyard at times. Also, my dog (offscreen) is now upset because he doesn't like it when he hears me fighting. 

Bonus: We see a workout-themed pinup girl with only the legs visible, because James never gives it a rest, ever. 

1:06:30: Again, I've offloaded some of the length of this post into a rundown of various billboards we see along the avenue. But I need to point out one for the Neighborhood Cafe that has some Choices in the design, including tall skinny rainbow letters for ESPRESSO, and the tagline "come to the cafe and taste the heaven." Which is significant because, after the release of the "Born from a Wish" DLC, the main game we're playing became known as "A Letter from Silent Heaven," where Mary presumably is now. As I've mentioned before, that turn of phrase also makes me wonder if Mary experienced a purgatorial Silent Hill of her own to get there. 

This is also the point where I make the really bad strategic decision to stay on the right side of the road rather than zig and zag as I usually do. This means that I totally forget to go ahead and fight everything at Octantis Fuels sooner rather than later. 

1:07:34: Billboards for the Silent Hill Historical Society (we'll pass it soon, and unlock the door much later in the game), the Pet Center (Eastern South Vale, has half of the key for the dog ending), and T's Italian Restaurant (the source of the pizza Eddie loves so much).

1:08:05: Reaching this area triggers dialogue where Maria asks, "Your wife, what was she like?" I think Maria is fishing for information: what could she and Mary have already had in common, and what was different about Mary that Maria could copy? James offers that Mary liked to play the piano. "I'm not sure if you're really that much alike," he adds awkwardly. (Now you understand why I had you look at the picture of Mary first.) "Oh? I don't strike you as the pianist type?" Maria teases him.

1:09:50: I asked Ian to talk about Midwich Elementary as a setting in the first game and movie when he passed these ruined schoolbuses; he picks up that discussion again at 53:00 on his stream. "People thought she [Alessa] was a witch" sounds very Jennifer Carroll and "women throughout history," by the way.

1:10:20: The billboard for Lakeside Amusement Park, which is a major location in SH3: "Come On! Funny Shinny Night Party!" Well, sure. Side note, Maria starts calling James "big man" at this point, even though the game has established that they're close in height. My theory is that James' masculine ideal is a lot more muscular, and he's imagined a woman who would make him feel "big"--even if, in practice, it comes off as potentially mocking.  

1:13:14: Here's the Historical Society. Maria: "Um, I'm all for taking the scenic route, but we're not getting any closer to where we want to be. Just so you know." Which in-game is a way of guiding you towards your objective, admittedly, but also, I KNOW, MARIA. Hesitantly, because this makes no sense, James explains that he thought Mary might be around here for some reason (Maria, amused: "Did you, now?"), because he is struggling to justify my choices as a player. 

You really have to stop and stand there to get that entire dialogue, because getting too close to the Historical Society door will trigger a superseding dialogue about how the building is locked, and how Maria isn't sure what's in there, or even the last time anyone was inside. 

1:14:33: A billboard for Giga Computer (a reference to the Giga Store in the original game), and then a billboard for the Baby and Kids Super Store. When we were at the store itself, I talked about the context--confirmed, but never explicitly mentioned in-game--that James and Mary had wanted to have kids. Hilariously, Maria keeps popping up in the extreme foreground while I talk about Not Her having a baby with James. In the endings where Maria herself is the final boss, she'll make her pitch to James as to why he should choose her over Mary, and she says, "I can give you what she never could." I had never been able to figure out what that might be--some kind of unnamed fantasy?--until it finally occurred to me: is Maria saying that she could have a child with him? Because she's a psychological manifestation, so I don't know how she'd manage that, but I can't think of any other explanation. 

1:16:25: A Silent Hill Fresh Meats billboard just before we reach the end of the line: Nathan Avenue just ends in a sinkhole. Just at the edge, there's a body, to Maria's distress: "Oh, God... did the monsters get him?" Clearly, she is not accustomed to seeing Dead Time Loop Jameses the way we are. 

As per usual, there's a bloody note beside this one. Here's the thing, though: the note you pick up on New Game+ is very different from the one you get on your first playthrough. On an early run that I also recorded, I picked the note up at night, because I think it's wonderfully creepy to find it when James is alone in the dark: 

All it says is, 

I can leave by not leaving. I can ONLY leave by not leaving.

With no other context, I read this as, "Dying—leaving life, while your body remains—in Silent Hill may be the only way to escape Silent Hill." I also think of Angela saying, "It's easier just to run": the only way to run, this note seems to say, is to leave your body here. 

That being said, I wanted to pick the note up in daylight so Maria could react to it, and I wanted to come by the Bowl-O-Rama code honestly:

I can leave by not leaving.  I can ONLY leave by not leaving. The deal is done.  He said he left it for me.  where they once were 1887

Okay, so this is a completely different proposition now; there's a second party involved (who?) and a "deal" of some kind. The number "1887" is the code to a safe at Pete's—I'd wanted show y'all how you get it, and it's so much simpler to get it here and then go to the Bowl-O-Rama. It'll turn out that you need what's in the safe for the "Bliss" ending: the only way to "leave" Silent Hill and/or James' grief/guilt is to stay in an alternate world within it (more on that shortly). 

You'll then hear two thumping sounds, and you'll find two dead mannequins on the road who definitely were not there before. This is Bloober Team's way of calling back to a pair of mannequins in the original game who are somehow... catapulted?... onto the road, without actually going full slapstick. 

Side note, the first time you look into a chasm in the road (there are several) while Maria's with you, she'll quip, "You think it'll stare back?" Meaning, of course, the famous Nietzsche lines, "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." There are several references to voids and abysses throughout the game, both verbal and visual. 

1:20:00: Finally, Pete's Bowl-O-Rama, a fan-favorite location.

What you can hear in the video above (an older run, but I like the way I told the story better): in the original game, Maria's like, UGH I'M NOT GOING IN, I HATE BOWLING, and James is like, what is your deal, I'm not going in here to bowl? But, you see, he encounters Eddie and Laura in the Bowl-O-Rama, and we never see Maria successfully interact with anyone who's not James; I don't think she can. So she has to stay outside. In the remake, Eddie and Laura have been moved to a theater, and so there's no reason for Maria to balk. Thus, when you get inside the abandoned Bowl-O-Rama this time, you get this exchange:

JAMES: You know, you can wait outside if you want. I'll just look around the place.  MARIA [utterly disdainful:] Why would I want to wait outside? JAMES: I... I thought you might not want to... MARIA: James... if you don't want me around anymore, you can just say it. JAMES: No, it's not that. Just a... stray thought. 

James himself sounds confused, as if to say, Wait, why would I think that? I think a previous time loop is bleeding into this one; he's remembering what they said before. Which turns this moment into more than just an in-joke.

As I recall, there's two ways into Pete's, and if you walk in through the double doors, there's a door to a back room directly on your left; this is the most efficient path to get New Game+ extras. There's a note back there referring to cloth stuffed into one of the ball returns; when you come out to the front counter, there's a safe that requires the "only leave by not leaving" code. (There's also ammo to pick up even if it's your first time.) 

In the safe, you get a Rusted Key and this note, from whoever our most recent Dead James made a deal with:

I did not acquire it nor will I be able to do so. However I can direct you to where it is. You will find it in a place of care. An island of respite in a sea of suffering. I warned you before, this is a commitment. I hope you can see this now.

So, the "Bliss" ending: this key is actually a step towards getting a bottle of White Claudia. Remember the PTV drug epidemic I mentioned (V2 39:00)? Yeah, White Claudia is the plant PTV is derived from. The note makes it sound like a previous Time Loop James made a "deal" of some kind (with who?) to get a drug that--I'll go ahead and spoil this--allows him to return to a world in which he and Mary were happy, and she may not have gotten sick at all. It's very Twilight Zone in its execution, and while it's not that compelling unto itself, I like how it adds to the endings as a collective: it's another step in the cycle of delusion and avoidance that James goes through in order to face what he's done, finally, in the "Leave" ending. 

I have a lot to say about the endings, but the short version is, I think all the endings together are "the ending"--watching James go through this process until he gets it "right"--and it's why I'm committed to getting all of them. I think this is why I have a certain amount of affection for this sad terrible pixel man: in some ways, I'm the guardian angel/federal escort who's going to make sure he gets to his reckoning. I mean, I'm also going to usher him to some pretty terrible endings and get him killed twenty times, but he kind of deserves it, so. We'll talk about it later. 

1:26:53: This is probably the most beloved Glimpse of the Past: a famous line from the original, when James finds Eddie eating pizza in the bowling alley: 

"Ugh, this town is full of monsters. Who could just sit here and eat pizza?" Which Original James says to Eddie's face; now that Eddie and Laura's scene has been moved to a different location, it's more a quiet bewilderment. Again: I am not sure where Eddie is getting fresh pizza in Silent Hill, other than mannequins delivering out of T's Italian Restaurant, but this is why there was a stack of pizza boxes in the apartment where we found Eddie throwing up his entire life. You get the achievement "Leftovers" for this glimpse. 

1:27:20: There's another easter egg on the wall--I didn't even notice it the first three or four times I played this area. Among photos of random people bowling and having a good time, there's a very gothic picture of a girl holding a trophy that, in the darkness, looks like the Obsidian Goblet you'll need for the "Rebirth" ending. 

1:27:54: As for the note about the cloth--I have an entire post complete with screenshots about this (of course I do), but the long and short of it is, this leads us to fabric the same color as Maria's jacket wadded into the third ball return (not the third lane). I feel like it foreshadows the "Maria" ending, in which the cycle of Mary's illness and death may repeat, including the dead bedroom situation (the frustration of the note and its mention of balls and a pin reads as sexual to me), and Maria may be discarded once she can't be a fun sexy dream girl anymore. 

While you're here, you can walk down to the end of the sixth lane and pick up some ammo. 

1:31:10: Back out on the road! I'm having to unstitch the Unvideo Writeup I nearly had finished and sew it back together in a different order, because I made the brilliant decision to stick to the right side of Nathan Avenue rather than zig and zag. As such, we're about to deal with every monster in this entire area all at once. But first, something important on Carroll Street: 

Here's another Glimpse of the Past: the entrance to the Heaven's Night club from the original game. But this time it's Maria having déjà vu. It makes sense that Maria would appear in James' time loops (if you subscribe to Time Loop Theory), but she seems to have a consciousness separate enough from James that she can remember this even when he doesn't. Is this meant to be a new development, or has Maria always been separate enough for this kind if discrepancy to show up? I don't know the original game well enough to say.

As a side note, since I like to point out the author namesakes of the streets (as confirmed by Lost Memories: Silent Hill Chronicle): Jonathan Carroll is a contemporary fantasy (specifically, "slipstream") author. What caught my eye, in light of SH2's dog ending, is that The Land of Laughs involves an author and his biographer who both seem to create reality through their writing... and a talking dog.

1:32:50: We reach Octantis Fuels, which I usually deal with way before now. I didn't know what "Octantis" meant, but it didn't sound like a gas station kind of word, so we ought to look it up:

Polaris Australis (Sigma Octantis), the southern pole star, is a magnitude 5.4 star just over 1 degree away from the true south celestial pole

And you see here that the logo involves a star-shaped compass:

I have two possible interpretations for this:

1) Mary is James' North Star, his "guiding light," and Maria is the opposite of that—the South Star—leading him astray. 

2) Maria, who is trying to guide us somewhere, is the North Star in this situation, and for us to be at "Octantis," we are going the opposite of where she wants, like the cussèd contrarians we are. 

This is from the video I had to scrap, but the way the timing played out, Maria made my point for me:

1:34:40: This area will kick your ass, but I really enjoy it. This is where you get the jack handle you'll use to open the garage way over by Rosewater Park. Remember how I've said you often have to "pay" for quest items? You will get jumped by one mannequin, two lying figures, and three (four?) creeper bugs. I mean literally jumped. 

They will target Maria, so you have to keep everybody off her—protecting her is important if you want the "Maria" ending, and she can be killed by monsters. There's a scripted moment in the game coming up soon where she's attacked, with a little "thank you for saving me" dialogue afterwards, but I found out the hard way that there's multiple versions of that exchange after a lying figure here got to her. I ended up apologizing that all the dry cleaners are closed, let's put it that way. 

(There is also an extra lying figure out by the fuel pumps.) 

1:37:00: I am speechless with rage for a full two seconds as Maria chides us for breaking yet another car window. MARIA!! DID YOU NOT JUST SEE HOW MANY MONSTERS TRIED TO KILL YOU!!! LOOTING CARS IS HOW WE STAY ALIVE MARIA!!!!!! 

1:37:35: My notes read, "YOU WILL GET JUMPED ON THE WAY BACK." The last time I came this way, I had a mannequin come up from behind to punch James, then do a full flip and a back-bend dodge. And I was on Light Combat. One of the things I love about this game is that streamers will get the hang of the remake combat and start complaining that it's too easy... and right about that time, every time, the monsters start getting faster and smarter. Lying figures, mannequins, and nurses will be your bread-and-butter enemies through the game, but just when you start getting comfortable, somebody explodes or gets a new weapon or starts skittering up the walls. Just watch a player say, "This isn't all that scary," and then shriek two minutes later, like clockwork. Even I got to an area where I knew what was about to happen, and two mannequins in a row made me shriek. I love it. 

Anyway, we pass a Dry Cleaner billboard and then one for the Dance Company (as mentioned: I think the mannequins' ballerina-style feet connect to this), and we have to deal with sundry lying figures and creeper insects. My dog gets upset and tries helping me (or stopping me) play. I mention a mannequin that sneaked up on me one time, and on a different run, it tried to hide behind a stop sign. Please see Great Moments in Monsters for visual evidence. It never actually shows up on this run, somehow.

Maria, by the way, is completely useless. You can yell at her to pick up a weapon all you want. It doesn't matter that she had a cleaver and a revolver in the DLC; she's apparently turned into a pacifist now. He’d be slung around Optimus and Elita’s waists and shoulders, leaning on them and locking their hands together, swaying

In the Elite Guard he’s constantly holding or picking up the jettwins, absently rubbing bass’s shoulders and back in soothing motions, leaning closer and closer to ultra Magnus, giving Longarm a head/neck rub (it’s the same thing for poor shockwave’s disguise lmao)

1st thing Sentinel does when he meets Optimus again and Ultra Magnus ends all the formalities is hug that bitch - mechanics creaking, plating popping, pedes off the ground, hugging for minutes on end, rubbing their helms together like cats and interlocking servos, swaying closer together while Optimus’s team watches confused as fuck

Sentinel is captured by Decepticons and rapidly degrades without any physical touch - getting progressively more paranoid and jumpy, twitching at every sound, even if it’s his own engine running. It only comes to a stop after Megatron realizes what could be causing the issue and deciding to try it as a possible interrogation technique

Unlucky for Megatron, he only figured it out after Sentinel essentially when rabid - escaping after tearing megaton’s faceplates off, denting and damaging his chassis, and rapidly driving the fuck outta town

When Sentinel is found again, he’s blank behind his optics (near white with an abundance of anxious charge) and has to be forcefully held down and cuddled for his processor to reactivate

Maybe I’m a little touch starved. The only person who’s not disgusted at the idea of touching me/not too busy to hug me is ironically, busy. 17.) Who's more likely to pull the other in by the waist and kiss them passionately?

Hmmm, this is a tough one. I think it's something they both do, but who does it most?

Barry definitely has a kink for being manhandled and taken care of. He's constantly having to be the hero and on top of things and so having Len take charge, pull him close and demand kisses... it's nice to just give in. He trusts Len whether it's with something small and romantic like this or, uh... other things. ;) So Len enjoys taking advantage of this in order to draw Barry close and kiss him whenever he wants.

Conversely, Len likes that despite being a twig in human form (until his thirties anyway), Barry can still push him around if he wants. Len definitely enjoyed being shoved around by Barry in S2, though he was definitely wishing for a kiss there. So I think his preference is less being pulled in by Barry and more by being shoved against a hard surface and crowded in by Barry, but he does enjoy getting pulled forward, into Barry's arms, and kissed senseless too.

I think, ultimately, Len is more likely to pull Barry into a kiss, but it's definitely something that goes both ways.

33.) Who's the better cook?

Barry. Len's not a lethal chef or anything like that and he enjoys cooking with Barry because it's something he's doing with Barry. But for it's own sake, Len's more of an 'eat what's convenient' type. Whereas Barry is very much a 'shows love through food' type.

Mick supports the relationship in part because he's no longer the only one making sure Len doesn't wind up with scurvy for avoiding his veggies.

35.) Who's more artistic?

Probably Barry. He can sketch really well and I can see him doing the ADHD cycle through various artsy hobbies. (I do this. Best to keep the projects in what are doable chunks for me or something I can put down and pick up again a few months or a year down the line.)

I think Lewis really stunted Len's artistic talents. He strikes me as the kind of father who sees his son taking art classes or home ec and gets super homophobic about it. Len expresses his creative side through his heist plans. He's maybe starting to allow his creativity roll into creating things - starting from learning how to repair and then recreate the Cold Gun to adapting what he learned to create ice grenades and the like. But overall, Barry's much more of the artsy sort.

44.) Who would dance in the kitchen making dinner? Would the other join in or watch from the doorway?

Barry is absolutely the dancer. We see that in canon with him dancing around in the kitchen in his boxers making breakfast. He will dance around and sing to music on the radio/streaming on his phone when he cooks alone - especially if he's cooking something special for Len. Romantic dinner? Barry is extra bouncy while he cooks and sets up a candle lit dinner.

Len won't admit it, but he finds it really charming how Barry romances him and he does try to romance Barry in return. But when Barry's dancing around in the kitchen, he definitely loves to stand back and watch. Just kind of take in that this ridiculous man loves him so much.

50.) who's more likely to do something out of spite?

I'd say initially it's Len. He's used to pushing people away and he expects eventually he'll push Barry away too and gets snippy and spiteful about things. But Barry's stubborn and as Len realizes that it'd take a hell of a lot to run Barry off, he starts to relax and accept that what they have is actually going to last and his tendency to say spiteful things while angry tapers off.

Barry isn't at first because he's had to learn to be very careful with his relationships and choose his battles with Joe. He'd argue to hell and back about his dad's innocence, but he was very afraid of Joe not wanting him anymore so he got in the habit of swallowing down his feelings about things until they boil over. He's a lot more likely to do this when something's triggered his trauma reactions. The first time Len realizes that Barry flipped out over something relatively minor with him and talking it out later reveals it was really because Barry was already on edge over something Team Flash did that triggered him that his team dismissed as inconsequential? Len absolutely reads them the riot act about the way they treat Barry's mental health so dismissively.

I think once Barry's trauma responses start being taken seriously and his boundaries are better respected, the spiteful responses become less likely to show up too. That said, I think maybe he still struggles with it more than Len.

SO BASICALLY,

The general concept is that Hyacinthus, the (secret) sixth prince of Laconia is sent to Olympia to help out after the catastrophic earthquake that's completely paralysed the town. He gets there, he's given his land and he finds this cool statue of his Very Handsome Man on his land and would you look at that, the Very Handsome Statue is talking to him and introduced himself as Apollo, how nice-!

In short, it's something of a domestic mystery - much like in Fields of Mistria itself, the earthquake has awakened old magic in Olympia once more due to interfering with the seals far below the earth. Hyacinthus, motivated to help Apollo get his lost memories back and for the good of the town, traverses down the mines so he can break the seals and, in the process, maybe un-statue the really hot guy that's sharing this farmland with him.

Farmer → Hyacinthus

Sent by the Adventurer’s Guild to help repair Olympia. Is the only one that can hear the voice of the Radiant from the statue on his farm. Sixth prince of Laconia, still in contact with his family, wanted to help his people after the disaster. 

Caldarus → Apollo

A God of old Olympia, used to be widely worshipped but is now sealed away deep under the earth. Has lost most of his memories along with much of his power but has recently reawakened due to a disaster which disrupted his seals. Can only communicate to Hyacinthus through the statue on his farm.  

Balor → Hermes

A prolific merchant who excels at delivering quality goods in unorthodox places. Took a special interest in Olympia after the disaster and remained the town’s sole contact to the outside world in the wake of their bridge collapsing. Always smiling and extremely mysterious - he has suspiciously low prices despite the danger of his work. 

Nora → Demeter

Head of Olympia’s Chamber of Commerce and co-owner of the General Store in town. Works closely with both Hermes and Hektor to keep the town running smoothly as well as coordinate the restoration of Olympia after the disaster. 

Holt → Triptolemus 

Co-owner of the General Store and Demeter’s life partner. Extremely reliable but a bit lost without Demeter’s instructions, he’s extremely skilled at cultivating crops and is responsible for stocking the general store with seasonal seeds and saplings. Strictly vegetarian.

Celine → Persephone

Demeter’s daughter and an avid lover of flowers. Constantly busy with the beautification of Olympia when she’s not researching the rare and mythical flora of Olympia’s past. She handles stocking the general store with seasonal flower seeds and furniture. Is in a secret relationship with Hades, one of the merchants from out of town.

Dell → Pelops

Demeter’s ward and a greatly troubled child. Rambunctious with a very vivid imagination, he has big dreams of returning to the capital and taking his rightful place as a Duke. Due to the remote nature of Olympia, it is the perfect place for him to be hidden away from his father’s madness and, luckily, no one in Olympia takes his tales seriously. Demeter worries about him endlessly.

Eiland → Cassandra

The younger child of the Baron and Baroness of Olympia, she is greatly concerned with the history and architecture of Olympia. Extremely perceptive and always on the lookout for more hints about Olympia’s buried past. Founded the History Society so she could more effectively research her current obsession, the scattered steles of a long dead god.

Adeline → Hektor

The elder child of the Baron and Baroness of Olympia, after the disaster struck he dedicated himself to restoring Olympia at all costs. He truly believes in the people and potential of this town and though he has never been particularly superstitious, he has found himself more inclined to pray and pay attention to natural omens since starting this project. He personally dedicates himself to working alongside Hyacinthus for the sake of restoring Olympia to its former glory. 

Elsie → Paris

Older relative of the Baron and a Count, he agreed to look after Hektor and Cassandra in Olympia while their parents were away. Seems to prefer Olympia’s quieter countryside but always has a story or two to tell about his exploits in the Capital. Seems especially fond of a particular man and woman he left behind in favour of coming to live with the Baron and his family.

Juniper → Penthesilea

A foreign woman who has not entirely settled into Olympia. Runs the bathhouse and gym and spends a lot of time on the Eastern Road. Is especially interested in the seals and inscriptions scattered around Olympia but staunchly refuses to join the History Society. Apparently, she is not very fond of Orpheus. 

Valen → Orpheus

The extremely skilled but extremely reserved town doctor. He has a clinic in the town centre and mostly keeps to himself, though he is especially fond of flowers and trees. Doesn’t speak much and instead prefers to write his thoughts down or communicate with sign language. Wears a wedding ring but notably, lives alone.  

Olric → Zephyrus

The older of the blacksmithing duo, a gentle man with a big heart. Part of the History Society and very enthusiastic about life, he was part of a skilled band of adventurers called the ‘Anemoi’ before eventually retiring and moving to Olympia. Spends a lot of his time on high hills and summits and can speak the language of flowers. Is good friends with Persephone.

March → Dionysus

The younger of the blacksmithing duo and undoubtedly the more skilled craftsman of the two, has been working extremely hard to help put the town to rights after the disaster and is a bit on edge because of it. Super welcoming and friendly but also somewhat unsettling due to his intensity, doesn’t actually care much about smithing and would much rather spend his days making wine casks and custom drinking cups.

Hemlock → Asclepius

Co-owner of the Sleeping Eclipse Inn and the town doctor before Orpheus moved in. He’s an anchor of the town and the inn is Olympia’s beating heart. Extremely well-read and a skilled luthier he helps wherever he can. Due to some difficulties with his health after the disaster, his family has been forcing him to take it easy. Cries every time he hears Orpheus sing.

Josephine → Epione

Co-owner of the Sleeping Eclipse Inn and the town veterinarian. She’s a powerful woman, the second tallest person in Olympia and very intimidating on first glance because of it. Despite this, she is extremely gentle-natured and always has a smile for those who enter her doors, works closely with Aristaeus to ensure the town’s internal supply of animal produce isn’t threatened, especially after the massive losses taken after the disaster. Was a ranger before she met Asclepius and still has her horse, Miel.

Reina → Iaso

Eldest child of Asclepius and Epione, was educated in the Capital but came home in a huff due to a major blowout with her boss at the hospital she worked at. Currently studying the healing power of food and cooking and works as the Sleeping Eclipse’s chef while she does her research. Is extremely concerned about her father’s health but refuses to let it show.  

Luc → Machaon

Middle child of Asclepius and Epione, he is determined to become a surgeon and surpass his father’s legend. Very smart young lad and one of the few people in town who completely believes Pelops’ stories, he loves small animals like insects and birds and often tries to nurse any small injured creature he can find back to health. Is fascinated by Pelops’ shoulder prosthetic and hopes to one day be able to make such a difference for someone else.

Maple → Hygeia

Youngest child of Asclepius and Epione, is a  twin but her sister died shortly after being born. Despite never knowing her sister, Hygeia struggles with a deep sense of loneliness and grief that has only recently started to ease with the help of the townspeople. Adores Orpheus and often spends the day shadowing him in the hopes of hearing him sing or play his lute. She is the only one Orpheus talks to about his dead wife.

Ryis → Thamyris

A carpenter who studied music in the Capital, came to Olympia shortly before the disaster at his friend’s request and was trapped after the bridge collapsed. Has a bit of a poor attitude due to once having big dreams of becoming a famous bard but is now too attached to Olympia to leave, no matter how much he grumbles about its backwater nature. Is convinced there’s something singing in the mines but is completely useless with a sword. 

Landen → Hippolytus

Owner of the Red-tailed Stag House of Carpentry (or the Stag House for short) and a very good friend of Thamyris. He gave up on urban life a long time ago and is dedicated to living in oneness and harmony with nature. Strictly vegetarian and kind of a stickler for his views being respected, he’s been on edge since the disaster since there’s been a massive change in the lands of Olympia. Most of the townspeople don’t take him seriously, but Penthesilea seems to think of him as a kindred spirit. He doesn’t work on the 6th or 16th of every month.  

Errol → Eros

Museum Curator, ex-adventurer and all around incredibly offputting guy, despite his open nature and pretty face, Eros seems to know everything about everything yet is unwilling to share that information with the rest of the town. His only delight seems to be the History Society and he is extremely pleased that Hyacinthus has decided to collect old artefacts and explore the mines. Apart from Cassandra, Eros is the only one that acknowledges the statue on Hyacinthus’ farm and occasionally passes by just to stare at it.  

Hayden → Aristaeus

Owner of Sweetwind Farm and the only other farmer in Olympia, Aristaeus has deep roots in this town and his family has lived and farmed here for generations. Skilled with animals and is extremely handy with preserving food, pressing olives into oil and keeping bees, he has almost single-handedly kept the town fed during the worst of the shortages brought on by the disaster despite the losses to his animals. Has a deep aversion to dogs and wishing stars. Seems to know a few things about Olympia’s history that no one else does but isn’t exactly eager to talk about it.

Terithia → Medea

A beautiful woman who lives alone on the beach. Has lived a long and eventful life and refers to Olympia as her ‘jail-cell’, her ‘gilded cage’ and her ‘death-house’ based on her mood. Much like Eros, she seems to know many things but is not inclined to let anyone else know, but unlike Eros, she very openly spins exciting tales of her youth when she was a court sorceress and princess. Though she doesn’t do much magic these days, she still has the knowledge and is always willing to decode some arcane knowledge for a price. 

Obviously there are a lot of liberties taken for the sake of the AU but that's the broad strokes of it. Thanks for asking about it @gotstabbedbyapen !!

Hey Gina, I wanted to throw my analysis brain in the ring regarding the discussion of she who must not be named, mostly cuz I've been seeing a lot of discussion regarding mutually beneficial PR and it's a great example.

So regarding Travis and T*ylor everyone needs to remember that all public figures want to be in the media and mostly they want things that make them look good.

T*ylor tends to have really good PR but she's had a bit of a hit this year in dating PR. The split between long-term beard Joe Alwyn and her, then the quick fling with controversial Matty Healy of the 1975 put her not in the best books dating rumors wise. She also has a pretty massive want for good PR, a massive concert tour that's going to Europe next year and Two re-releases of her former albums,the second of which occurs next month. Dating a "all-American" good boy puts her in a nice spotlight. Someone who just won the Super Bowl and is playing on the best team could also open her to even more audiences.

Well this shows what she has to gain, why would Travis want this amount of attention. First, he is 33, he's been in the NFL for 10 years, his position lasts about 12-14 if they don't get hurt. By being seen with her it puts him in a favorable spot to potentially score a nice gig following his playing career. Second, he has loyalty to the Kansas City Chiefs( yes I too hate this name), he has played his whole career there. With her their the game had over 24 million people watching over 10 million more than the week prior. Huge increase for the game.

My theory is that this is not just PR for Travis Kelce too, it's great PR for the NFL, which is something they constantly need since they get plenty of bad press. The NFL has also been trying to expand markets to Europe. With the first game of that expansion happening in London this weekend. By having such buzz around American Football, they can maybe get more people watching in Europe and not just the US.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a longer PR relationship since she's probably going to put out her next rerelease in the beginning of next year then tour Europe with Kelce jumping along bringing more discussion of American Football and the NFL with him to Europe potentially helping the market expansion the NFL has been wanting for almost 5 years.

If this mutually beneficial PR works for T*ylor, someone we mostly view as not needing it and has the potential to repair bad press from other PR relationships, it's not far off to think that H wouldn't benefit similarly from Hussell.

Yeah, it’s completely obvious that the pairing is 100% PR. In fact, it’s so obvious, it’s lit up like a neon sign you can see from Mars. But I didn’t know that about the NFL. That makes it even more clear and I think you’re very, very right.

Clumsy Glasses Wearing S/O:

Jason is constantly worrying about you, especially because you seem to find every object to trip over possible. He’s not necessarily worried about horrible bodily harm being inflicted on you, but he hates seeing you come back to camp with tons of scrapes and bruises and insisting you’re fine.

He’s gathered all sorts of first aid supplies over the years from campers, so he has just about everything you could need. Antibiotics for your cuts, bandages for sprains, even things to make a splint just in case. He never knows with you.

Jason has also gotten used to fixing your glasses if need be, as well as figuring out ways to replace them when they inevitably become destroyed beyond repair. Even with his big hands he has a delicate touch when needed and can perfectly glue and tape up your glasses in record time. 

He keeps you in arms reach when the two of you are out together. There have been multiple times he’s stopped you from tumbling over by grabbing the back of your shirt like a newborn kitten. At this point it’s a reflex for him, he doesn’t even have to be looking at you in order to save you from danger.

Whenever you lose your glasses he makes sure you’re in a safe place before going back to where he found you in the first place. And when he finds them and brings them back to you and puts them on your face, he can’t help but find the way you smile up at him so endearing. He would help and protect you at any cost just to see your smile.

TL;DR BIO

Ralph was born the second son, and often felt overshadowed by his older brother, who seemed to do everything better than him. He found the only way he could ever get attention was by throwing tantrums.

He eventually developed an anger management problem that plagued him throughout his adolescence. After graduating high school, his parents gave him an ultimatum and forced him to join the military.

While the military did get his behavior in line, it also left him with trauma. He believed it would all be worth it because he would come home a veteran and a hero.

When he returned from service, his parents had retired and moved away. His childhood home was bulldozed in favor of a new apartment building. No one seemed to care that he was back and he was left to fend for himself.

He moved into a trailer by the Redwood Dump and got a job at Fix-It-Felix’s as a demolitions expert. He does all the dirty work that nobody else wants to do, and his coworkers often leave him out.

He’s been vilified throughout town because he is known for ripping down trees, precious monuments, and beloved childhood memories. He always insists that he’s just doing his job, but it doesn’t bring back what he destroys.

He’s working hard to maintain his anger management issues, but is constantly being worn down by the grind.

PERSONALITY

Heated, hated, but hearty, Ralph always finds himself caught between a rock and a hard place. He just wants to be recognized for a job well done, but nobody in or out of the company seems to appreciate him for doing necessary work. It’s left him very demoralized and he can often come off as gruff and aloof because of it.

He’s not the brightest bulb in the box, but he tries very hard at everything he does. He can often be seen as obtuse, clumsy, and causing problems even when he doesn’t mean to.

Still, if people just gave him a chance, he’s sure he would treat them right. Whether that’s actually true or not remains to be seen.

WANTED CONNECTIONS:

Friends: Ralph is extremely lonely and just wants people to like him. Give him a chance and he’ll back you up no matter what. However, be wary. If a friendship is formed, he can become possessive and jealous easily.

Enemies: In between his job and his huffy attitude, it is very easy to not like Ralph. Whether you’re passionate about the things he’s trying to demolish or just find him unbearable, it’s likely he will meet your scorn head on.

Locals: Ralph grew up here so he’d most likely know anyone else who did, especially people around his age who he may have gone to school with.

Exes/Previous Hook-ups: Ralph has tried dating over the years, but it usually doesn’t work out, and it’s usually because of him. Both genders, though he is more secretive about his relationships with men.

Lovers/Current Hook-ups: Despite all his previous failure, he is still desperately trying to get someone to love him. Sometimes it’s only for a night, but really, he is looking for something more.

The Princess of Hyrule was regal and elegant, and everything that any other aspiring queen could only hope to be. Refined, proper, just, and wise beyond her years, and yet, he could see the silent struggle she carried. He did not pretend to know her; he was nothing but a farmhand who’d been given the sword of destiny and knew nothing about running a kingdom, pulling it from ruin, balancing personal trauma atop the trauma of thousands, repairing diplomatic relationships and boundaries, or governing a people that stretched from icy mountains to scalding deserts. The inability to belong in Ordon, to fit in with those who loved him enough to mourn him instead of adapt to who he’d become, did not mean he could insert himself into the life of castles and crowns.

And still, Link found himself keeping an eye on her. The first time he noticed her grabbing her wrist was during a meeting with the general in the early days of his recruitment. He’d pray for forgiveness every night for how he looked at her, studying her as if she could give him whatever it was that he was looking for, and he chastised himself for the needless concern. She was royalty, a goddess reincarnate. She probably had hundreds of people waiting on her constantly, attending to her every need and taking notice of every little sign of distress or trouble. He said nothing to anyone about it, but he still found it odd she’d done it multiple times in what was only a half-hour time frame.

The next time he was close enough to see her repeat the action, a fair amount of time had passed. Princess Zelda had warned him that, should he accept her invitation to join the knights of the castle and teach them what he knew, he would have to undergo months of training before he was deemed of high enough rank to offer any sort of knowledge that could be considered useful. The training was intensive, but it was easy compared to holding the weight of the world on his shoulders.

It was during the knighting ceremony, when he was watching her instead of listening to the speech of the general, when he saw her grab her wrist. No, not her entire wrist. Two fingers were pressed to one small, specific area—her pulse point. She was checking her pulse.

Such an innocent action made him feel dirty, as if it was something he shouldn’t have noticed. Maybe if he was anyone else, he wouldn’t. But Link had grown very observant of people and their actions within the last few years. If only he knew what it meant, but he didn’t.

For all of the courage he possessed, it took a little bit of liquid luck to get him to ask. She’d cordially invited him to a small celebration (why specifically for him, he would never know) that same night, and maybe both of them were drinking for some sort of anesthetic relief.

“It reminds me that I’m alive,” she answered, lifting her fingers to the pulse point in her wrist again, “at times my body no longer feels like myself, or when I remember what it looked like, limp and lifeless.”

“Is it comforting?” he asked curiously.

“I don’t know.”

A beat of awkward silence hovered in the air between them. Then, Zelda held her wrist out towards him. An invitation, maybe--or at least, that’s what he took it as, cupping her hand in one of his own to support it while the other settled two of its fingers against the artery in her wrist. The beat was steady and strong. The feeling was visceral, and he didn’t know why. What was it about the steady beat of blood traveling to and from the heart that set him off, had him thinking about her, and of Midna, and of Ilia, and of home? All things he’d lost to the twisted strings of fate, left only with a princess he wanted so desperately to but couldn’t reach. That was the cost no one ever spoke of, and he knew she felt it too. Maybe it was his offer of help, or maybe it was the one selfish thing he’d done since he left Ordon, but he lifted her hand just high enough to brush his lips against her pulse.

Link did not see the princess again for another month. He was whisked away to some outpost to keep a careful eye on the activity of a bokoblin pack, something boring that left him feeling limp and drained and longing for any sort of companionship. Sure, he got along well enough with other knights, particularly those he’d been training with, but it wasn’t the same. It wasn’t like the relationship he’d had with Ilia, or the closeness he had with Midna, or whatever he craved from Zelda.

When he did return, a too many, thirty-something days later, he wasn’t sure what he expected. He didn’t think he was fit for anything with the princess, but here she was, a mere few hours after his arrival, at the brink of tears as she asked, in a voice too small to fit the big role she filled, to speak with him.

Maybe the lack of company had gotten to her, too. He didn’t pretend to know her enough to make the assumption.

The garden was the most secluded place outside of her bedroom and as soon as she deemed they were far enough, she broke into a fit of sobs. Link had never seen the composed princess fall apart before. He couldn’t even ask what was wrong. All he could do was watch her in surprise, wracking his brain for what he was supposed to do when his superior in every way of existence cried.

Without a word, she held up a reflective shard that took no time to recognize as he took it from her hands. The weight shifted immediately, making him feel homesick for something he no longer had.

“Why do you have this?” he asked softly, fighting to look at Zelda instead of the Mirror of Twilight piece that he wasn’t sure he could trust his reflection with.

“It reminds me of… a dear friend,” she replied in the breaks between her gasps for breath. “I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t have it. I should’ve given it to you sooner.”

She looked so...guilty over something. He didn’t understand where it was coming from, or why she was so sorry over something so trivial.

“It’s yours,” he argued. “Why give it to me?”

“You were close to her in a way I never could be.”

Link frowned, lowering the shard in favor of looking at her. She looked a mess. How long had she given herself to the effects of the mirror?

“That’s ridiculous,” he whispered as he placed the shard down on a bench, as far away from her as it could possibly get at that moment. “She loved you.”

“Why do we talk about her like she’s dead?”

Hylia above, he was so useless. He reached for her, circling his hand around hers, and searched for her pulse point. It seemed to ground her enough to where she could breathe again. When the gasps finally stopped, he pulled her towards him and wrapped her in a hug. It was all he could do as he whispered back, “It’s easier to let go that way.”

And just like that, the people of Ordon made sense to him. Just like that, Zelda dug her fingers into the back of his shirt and held him a little tighter. Just like that, whatever barrier was holding him back from pursuing a friendship, from being selfish just a little bit more, was broken.

Months of conversations between meals, or on night walks, brought them closer than he ever thought he’d get to be. Maybe, finally, Link was starting to heal from all he’d faced. Maybe she was starting too, as well. The dark circles were fading and she was gaining some well needed weight. She looked healthier, smiled easier, and he knew her well enough to make that assumption.

The turning point was the night of her coronation. Zelda felt well enough to pursue her crown, and they celebrated on their own after the grand ceremony, sipping wine and twirling each other about in her bedroom.

She was laughing. Her smile was beautiful and he couldn’t help grinning right back. Link hadn’t felt this warm, this complete in a long time. Maybe she felt it too, because she tugged him closer by the hands and covered his smile with her lips.

This was what he was looking for, he was sure. A sense of belonging, and never had he expected to find it with the queen of Hyrule, who was so far out of his league. She’d never hear it of course, which would lead to many playful arguments in the future, but for now, he was happy to kiss her, feel her pulse, and hug her close enough to restore the warmth he lost when he had to be away.

Overall pretty chill stream, good for some techno ranboo dynamics and no real lore

SUMMARY:

Techno starts the stream in his base. While people find the stream, he rambles about how Phil doesn’t ever have time to do plot streams with him, and jokingly declares him canonically dead, and asks Chat if they have a grandpa who could replace him. He does a little advertisement for his new Technoplushie, and mentions that he wanted to have a video out this week, and that he actually edited last night.

He talks about how he lost his in-game notebook, but finds it quickly. He reveals that he’s finally ordered new glasses, good for him, and then shows his chat Ranboos shack. Techno repairs his armor a bit, and then gets a friend for Bob, his cow. He also moves his villagers down to the villager area.

Dream joins the server, and Techno bullies him about his homeless status. Ranboo joins his VC, and Techno threatens his parrots because they make Creeper noises while Ranboo tries to sleep. Ranboo has to leave the call, and restart his computer, due to technical issues.

Techno tells his chat that if they donate a Technopepe ($50, i think?), he’ll name a dog after them. He is immediately overwhelmed by donations and spends several minutes naming dogs. Dream asks him to name one ‘dream has a house,’ and Techno says that that would be the favor. He is also asked to name one Technochan.

The dogs kill several zombies, and Techno eventually finishes with the named dogs. There are around 25 dogs following Techno at this point.

0:27:40 Ranboo gives Techno a present, an Efficiency V, Fortune III, Mending, Sharpness V, Unbreaking III Netherite axe, as a replacement for the Axe of Peace. Techno assures us that his heart is not warmed at all, totally, he is still completely indifferent about this child Phil adopted.

Ranboo mentions that he’s going to find another Woodland Mansion, and Techno decides to tag along.

While ringing the sellout timer, the first dog dies. This one is Mackenna, and they die because of the fireplace. While looking at the fire, Edward hits Techno, and the dogs immediately run and attack him. Edward dies. Ranboo mentions that he liked talking with Edward.

Ranboo and Techno eventually leave, and Ranboo shows Techno the stronghold by his house. They go into the Nether and onto the roof, while talking about past events and Sapnap. They move on to bullying Tubbo about his dying habit.

They make it around 1,000 blocks from spawn, and Techno builds an uncomfortably square portal. They find that they’re too far south, and they go back into the Nether.

Techno starts singing ‘99 bottles of beer’ and i just….love his singing voice so much it’s at 0:48:55 and you should watch it. They make a few different portals, and eventually they find the right area and go to the overworld. They find the mansion, and Technos dogs try to kill the vex. It does not work that well. The dogs do attack an evoker, and Techno gets his first totem of the day.

Two dogs die to a creeper, including one named ‘Dream has a house.’

Ranboo lights a fire in a cat statue, and they watch as the mansion burns to the ground. Techno plays sad music.

They search the chests, which don’t burn, and try to find better loot. They do not succeed.

Techno and Ranboo head back home, and they talk about a random pig who managed to go through the portal in, and then out, of the Nether.

They find a Soul Speed highway, and Ranboo has to explain it to Techno. They talk about miscommunication in Dream SMP, and eventually reach the house. After sitting down all the dogs, Techno goes back up to the sellout timer and ends the stream.

Night running has always played an important role in the operation of the railways, and the NWR is no exception. The Midnight Goods is by far the most famous of the NWR’s overnight services, but they run plenty of other night-time freight trains as well - mail, parcels, newspapers, fish, milk, and just about anything else you can think of. In any case, since the NWR doesn’t run any passenger trains at night, the network is left free for the freight service to really come into its own.

One of the true mainstays of the NWR’s overnight timetable is Jason, who’s a true night owl if ever there was one. By night, he’s full to the brim with energy, and racing up and down the Main Line with whatever sort of train he’s pulling that night. By day, he’s utterly sluggish, cranky and miserable, and woe betide anyone who doesn’t let him get a good day’s sleep. Most of the other engines have only seen Jason at one extreme or the other, and much confusion is often to be had when talking about him - usually resulting in the question, “Are we talking about the same engine here?“

Jason is uniquely suited for such nocturnal work, not only because he’s been doing it all his life, but because when he was built at Swindon in 1923, it was for exactly this sort of work. The 47XXs were specifically designed for use on fast overnight freight services between London and the West Country. And sure enough, this was what Jason did for much of his GWR career - just about everything from mail and parcels to newspapers and milk. However, his efforts were seldom appreciated - as the 47XXs ran mainly at night, they were rarely seen, and their length and weight meant they were restricted in where they could work.

Jason’s another one of those engines whose arrival on the NWR is shrouded in mystery. He apparently arrived on Sodor during the Second World War, and was clearly intended to provide a temporary boost to the railway’s freight capacity, but beyond that, it’s a bit of a mystery. In any case, he performed well enough, and like so many engines, he just ended up sticking around after the War ended. Jason was later fully purchased by the NWR in 1949, and officially entered service shortly afterwards.

The 1950s brought with it another boost in freight traffic, and Sir Topham Hatt started making plans to add more services to his night timetable, to help deal with the extra demand. He was aware of the 47XXs‘ prowess with night work, and naturally selected Jason to work a regular night shift. Sure enough, Jason took to the new service with gusto, and the venture was eventually declared a success...

Well, almost. The plain fact was that in order for Jason to perform at his best at night, he needed to get plenty of sleep during the day. Sadly, he’d never been the heaviest of sleepers, and so he constantly found himself being woken up by all the noises a motive power depot could provide - and Jason was based at the main shed at Knapford, which was particularly bad for this sort of thing. In short, Jason was getting far less sleep than he needed.

This sleep deprivation was bound to end in trouble for Jason - and it did. After a particularly sleepless day, Jason was then just barely able to keep himself awake through an especially intensive night’s work. Unfortunately, he was then called at the last minute to cover for Henry on the Flying Kipper, and this turned out to be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Jason finally fell asleep at speed, missed a signal, and crashed straight into the rear of another goods train.

The accident sorely highlighted the need for somewhere quiet that Jason could sleep during the day, and this eventually took the form of an old shed at the far end of Knapford yards.
