man it’s like. is photobashing art? is collage art? is digital art still art if you use brush sets to make drawing certain textures easier, or pre-made 3-D assets, or certain automated processes in photoshop? is duchamp’s fucking fountain art? this is not a new debate. these are examples of people using pre-made tools and various artificial techniques as part of their creative process, and the line for what’s going to count as too automated to be “real art” is subjective.
#i do sympathise with artists who are worried about their art getting stolen or their livelihoods being jeopardised#(although lbr in many cases these livelihoods were pretty hypothetical)#(and a lot of people pearl-clutching were not seriously planning on attempting to make a career out of art in the first place)#but i have also been seeing a lot of really stupid arguments about ‘real art’#like. you guys do realise there’s still a person involved right?#fine-tuning the process and making creative decisions about it? maybe using AI output as raw material to transform into something different#AI art is a tool. like a lot of tools i have my reservations about its potential for misuse but it’s not like inherently evil#no more than it’s evil for someone to use a clip studio tool to render lace trim on a garment#because they don’t feel like drawing it by hand.#obviously you can use AI to create art that is shitty‚ derivative‚ and creatively barren#but i've personally done that with a good old fashioned paper and pencil too.#this is not me coming down unambiguously on the side of AI art either btw#like i said. i have reservations. but it's a tool.#it's not gonna be the End Of Art any more than photography was
