Summer
Hello! I am SO sorry for having gone MIA all of a sudden on Tumblr and Ao3, but life caught up once exams ended and I was in a deep, dark place for sometime. But not to worry, because I'm definitely better now, and finally got over my writer's block/unmotivation (if that's a word) and what better way to start off writing again if not with a Hinny fic?
As usual, I hope you enjoy this sort of non-magic alternate universe, maybe a modern meet-cute of sorts? From the one and only Ginny Weasley's perspective, of course.
Again, you can find my Ao3 right here where I post quite fluffy Wolfstar one shots!
----
The summer was harsh in Cornwall, which was where Ginny's family home was situated. She went up to university in London, just having recently finished her second year in Drama. Last summer, she was on a long trip with her best friend Luna, and hadn't been able to make it down to be with her family. But this year, she fully intended to spend as much time as possible with them, even if her older twin brothers were being annoying arses.
"Fred, George, just wipe the bloody tables already!" She screamed, exasperated, even though the twins were not even 20 feet away. The only unique cafe-by-day/restaurant-by-night was owned by Ginny's family. It was a quaint place, serving the best coffee to tourists and locals alike, along with not such a sharply contrasted cosy restaurant theme the place adopted when the sun went down.
And currently, the cafe was a few hours away from opening as a restaurant, and was left in the care of Ginny and her older twin brothers. She had another older brother after the twins, but he was off with his university friends (being an year older) and had even MORE older brothers ranked above the twins. Her oldest brother Bill, worked as a vet in New York, also where the second brother Charlie worked as an art curator. The third brother Percy was currently obtaining his PhD in some sort of Math which Ginny was too 'humanities' to understand (in Percy's own words, that subject bigot). The brothers after Percy, twins Fred and George were as stated, being annoying prats but worked in some sort of prank shop, much to their mother and Percy's chagrin (Between us and her, Ginny never understood why Percy felt a need to voice this opinion, because if Ginny also opened her mouth to provide an opinion on every single thing under the sun, working in a prank shop was perfectly acceptable).
Finally the last brother Ron went to university in Devon, having recently finished his degree in Astronomy combined with Philosophy, and that was it. Growing up with 6 older brothers, Ginny was significantly hot tempered, a trait often made fun of because of her (and her whole family's) flaming red hair.
"Oh for God's sake the two of you, just shut up if you don't want to do any work!" She finally snapped, causing two identical pairs of brownish eyes to look at her.
"Okay!" They smirked, before actually rushing away to the back of the cafe. Ginny sighed, wondering for the tenth time that afternoon why she bothered to come down here in summer. The twins, despite being her favourite, were useless gits-
"Ginny! Where are Fred and George?" Her mother's voice flew out from the front of the store, removing Ginny from her trail of thoughts, where Molly stood with hands laden with grocery bags. Her father, Arthur, she saw outside from the huge floor to ceiling windows, was unloading the boot of their car of more paper bags.
"They ran away after being absolutely useless gits." She muttered angrily, almost aggressively wiping a glass and placing it on the shelves behind her.
Her mother let out a long suffering sigh, but nevertheless joined Ginny in tidying up the cafe. "They're quite irresponsible." Molly sighed, wiping down tables at a superhuman speed.
"Mum if it's okay, can I join Ron and his friends at the party happening down at the beach?" Ginny asked apprehensively. The question had been burning at the back of her mind since the morning when Ron actually invited her to the beach party being thrown by one of the local boys. He had brought his uni friends and girlfriend down from Devon, and Ginny had already met Hermione, Ron's soulmate, if their behaviour was anything to go by.
Being in an all girls school, Ginny practically grew up with her girlfriends gushing about boys and celebrities, often almost swooning like some Victorian women when boys from the neighbouring school passed by their grounds.
However, Ginny was smart- if having six brothers had taught her anything, it was that boys were annoying, and only a few handful of them were actually decent. But now, looking at how close Ron and Hermione were, Ginny was starting to long for her own sort of romance. It had been over a year since she broke up with her first and only boyfriend Dean. She was convinced the breakup had solidified her stance on relationships, which was that relationships were okay but there was no need to actively look for one. Ron and Hermione's lovey dovey-ness was revolting, but uncharacteristically had Ginny pining away for her love story as well. Not that she'd ever admit it, of course.
"Well there's nothing really to do, and if it's busy there's a lot of pairs of hands to help. So sure, go on." Molly finally said and Ginny could almost fist pump, if it wasn't for the wet rag she was holding.
The evening rolled around quicker than Ginny anticipated, and before she knew it, her and Hermione stood in Ginny's small attic bedroom, getting ready for the party. "So, tell me, how was Dean?" Hermione asked, looking behind at Ginny through the mirror, where the younger girl stood blinking away extra mascara.
"Oh well, he was alright. Nothing like fireworks or sparkle." Ginny flushed slightly as she processed her own words. Oh, how she sounded like a lovestruck 12 year old.
However, Hermione didn't seem to mind. She simply grinned. "I'm sure with the right person it's more than just sparkles and fireworks." Hermione winked, and Ginny wondered if there was more to the statement than she understood. However, Hermione was already done with the topic, now going on about her course and what plans Ginny had for after university.
They walked downstairs, finding Ron standing at the door, his eyes glued to Hermione as she walked down the stairs. To be fair, Hermione definitely looked stunning- even if it was for a casual beach party. Ginny noted slightly bitterly to herself how the simplest pair of jeans and top could make one gorgeous to the right eyes. She breathed deeply as Ron wrapped an arm around his girlfriend, the girlfriend in question smirking back at Ginny as she followed them. Okay, very confusing.
The walk to the beach from the cafe was short, and there was already a bonfire going in the distance, with some upbeat song playing from someone's phone. "So, where is Harry and everyone else?" Hermione asked, looking around. Ron still had a hand in Hermione's as the two of them looked around for who had to be Ron's friends. "Neville!" Ron suddenly yelled good naturedly, as a tall guy walked towards the three of them with a big grin on his face.
"Ron! Hermione!" Neville hugged each of them in turn, smiling broadly at Ginny.
"Neville, this is my younger sister Ginny. Ginny, that's one of our friends from uni, Neville." Ron introduced. Ginny waved, which was returned by Neville.
"Is your girlfriend here as well?" Hermione asked, to which Ron added, "Oh, do we finally get to meet the elusive To-Be-Mrs. Longbottom?"
Perhaps having noticed Ginny's confusion, Neville clarified. "These two here haven't had the chance to meet my girlfriend- well, fiance as of a week, yet. In answer to your question Ron, no, she unfortunately couldn't make it. But she's been inviting the two of you over for dinner since ages." He turned to Ron.
"Actually yeah, we should definitely go. Anybody seen Harry?" Ron asked, looking around the small crowd of people. Ginny moved away from the couple to sit next to the fire, and grab a cold beer in the process.
She had just made herself comfortable slightly away from the warm fire when a figure sat down next to her, causing shivers to go up her left side. "Hi, you must be Ginny." The figure spoke and Ginny looked to the source of the voice, to be met by the unruliest mop of black hair she had ever seen on a human, and twinkling green eyes. In the soft light from the fire, they glowed slightly amber.
"I am. But I don't think I've met you?"
Ginny didn't get an answer because Ron's voice interrupted them. "Harry, you came!" He shouted, the figure (Harry) getting up to tackle Ron in a hug.
"Of course I did, getting sloshed at your best mate's beach party is always infinitely better than home." Harry grinned, and Ginny started to feel her heart race.
"I see you've met Ginny." Ron said, sitting down in between her and Harry.
"I just did, yeah." Harry smiled mischievously. They had moved closer to the fire, and in the brighter light, Harry's face was more distinct. And boy was he fit. The hair, even though messy, was not unattractive (quite the opposite), and his face was slightly round, made rounder by the permanent grin which seemed to reside there. And his eyes were covered by round glasses, reflecting off the orange from the fire.
"Well anyway, Gin, this is Harry, my best mate from university. He just made it down here to Cornwall." Ron said, and suddenly got up to fetch more drinks, but Ginny didn't miss the glares Hermione was shooting Ron from across the fire.
"Do you reckon we go a bit further away?" Ginny, being so busy interpreting the look Hermione was giving Ron, hadn't noticed the boy had shifted closer to her.
"Uh, sure." She found herself slightly tongue tied, staring into green amber.
"Brilliant, Let's go?" Harry got up, and lent Ginny a hand. She took it, and a slight warmth, probably not from the fire, ran down her spine when their hands remained connected.
They walked away from the party, not too far that a search team would be required, but just far enough to hold a conversation in peace. The music slightly played in the background, a slower guitar theme, and Ginny turned around to see Ron and Hermione swaying around the fire, the brightest smile settled on both their faces. Ginny simply let out a happy sigh, attention darting down to entwined hands.
"So, Ron tells me you're in drama?" He asked, as they sat down near the water with their legs bent, just that the waves touched their toes and washed back.
"Yes, I am, final year now. Although I haven't heard a lot about you?" Ginny teased. Harry simply chuckled, a sound she realised she found much more attractive than she should have.
"Well it's a shame since I am his best mate but, Harry Potter, third year medic, at your service." He lightly bowed his head, eliciting a giggle out of the girl.
"Medicine huh, that definitely sounds hectic." She commented, as her fingers drew an absent minded pattern in the sand separating their sitting figures.
"I also captain the football team." He replied, eyes shining with humor. Ginny looked up, wondering if it was a coincidence that the man she found extremely fit also checked off all her criterion of 'boyfriend'.
"Oh- well I don't know how you found the time to be here, what with studying and football." Ginny smiled. Harry looked back at her, eyes boring into her brown ones. "Only because I was told someone stunning was going to be here." He said in a lower voice. Ginny flushed under the stare.
"I'm sure having those feelings for your best mate's girlfriend is not a good idea." She teased, feeling some confidence seeping into her. Harry scooted closer, placing a hand on Ginny's.
"And what if I said they weren't for the girlfriend, but for the sister?" His eyes darted down to her lips, her own pulse quickening. Then continuing with her sudden confidence, she unconsciously leaned in, her lips just millimeters away from Harry's. "The sister would definitely like that because she thinks you're extremely fit too." Ginny whispered, her lips just brushing against Harry's before he closed the distance completely.
The two of them sat there, away from the party, lips moving in slow sync as if they were doing the communicating. Getting to know each other in silent movements, a dance of attraction and dominance. Thee music faded in the background, as behind her closed eyes Ginny saw stars, and faintly made out the sound of fireworks exploding behind them. Not that she'd admit it to anyone, of course.
But in that moment, it was just her, Harry and the cool water playing with their feet. And when they finally pulled apart, Ginny secretly swore that she saw her reflection in green pools glow and sparkle.
Not that she'd ever admit it, obviously.

I need some help. Please.
Okay, so this is my baby, Alex
On the morning of August 25, I lost him. This is a hard post to write.
I drove home late Saturday august 24th because he wasnât doing well (my mom took care of him while Iâm at school but I FaceTimed him every single day)
Alex wasnât eating or pooping, this has happened before but we can usually get him out of it by using pear juice, baby gas drops, tummy massages, critical care and other things. I knew this time was different. We got him to the emergency vet (over an hour away) at around 8:30 PM. He was different this time.
They took an x-Ray and did some bloodwork and found he had a big gas bubble in his tummy. And the bloodwork showed his potassium and proteins were off. His temperature was Also a little low, running 99ish and rabbits should run over 100
They wanted to hospitalize him for 24 hours but I didnât want to leave my baby. We stayed for a while and they gave him pain meds, he became very sleepy after this, this is the last picture I have of him alive, he was sleeping in my arms
They started an IV drip to hydrate him and hopefully get things moving, there was also pain medication in the drip.
We left him there but got a hotel 5 minutes away. ($120) I slept absolutely none, and called to check on him ever 1-2 hours.
I called at 4am and they tell me his temperature had dropped (96ish) and were planning on starting syringe feeding at 6am if there were no improvements
He didnât make it to 6
I woke my mother and we went there straight away. We get there about 4:10 and he was in a small room they have for rabbits and it was really warm trying to raise his temp. At this point weâre doing almost everything, thereâs one other thing they can do.
A procedure where they sedate him and go in his stomach with a tube and release the gas (which he still had not passed)
I agree to this because it was a last resort, my baby wasnât eating or using the bathroom. I sat on the floor and held him for a couple minutes before they took him to do the procedure. I remember holding him and putting my head on his and thinking âI hope this isnât the last time I get to hold him, I have to remember this moment.â And it was the last time I held him alive.
They did the procedure and the vet comes out and says they got a good amount of gas out and he pooped one pellet, I was hopeful. I went back to see him and he was laying on the table, groggy from the sedation. I rubbed him and told him I loved him. I told them about how sweet of a bun he was, how he loved to get under the recliner and thought it was a game, how he just got a scooby doo chair that made him feel like a king.
They took him back to let him rest and I thought he could use it so I went to the waiting room. Iâve questioned and went over 1000 times or more in my head if I did the right thing. Because about 10-20 minutes later the vet comes and tells me Alex has arrested.
My baby. Writing this is beyond hard. I scream, I cry, she leaves and said something about CPR. I run to the back and open a door, I see him on the table and her trying to revive him. The vet tech comes out and tells me sheâs doing what she can, I scream, I beg them to save him. He wanted to come home. I screamed I didnât care about the money, just to help him.
They brought me my limp baby boy in a blanket, brown stuff all over his mouth and I cried and begged him to wake up. He didnât. My baby was gone and gone too soon.
To you he may be just a rabbit but he was my baby, he helped me through things in ways I never thought he could. I found a love for rabbits, much more then them just being cute, they have personality and he was the best boy, he just wanted to be loved and he was, but I wanted to love him more and more and more and more.
Early in the night we realized the bill was going to be much more than the money we had in our pocket or our bank accounts. So we applied for care credit and were allowed $1,500. The total ended up being a little over 1,600 and we used $200 something from my grandmas credit card that we will have to pay back to her. The whole time I said âitâs okay, Alex has insurance, theyâll cover most of it right?â
WRONG. I got NATIONWIDE exotic pet insurance for emergencies like this and I submitted a claim. They are willing to give us a whopping $279??? So we called to find out the reason, and hereâs the gag. Theyâll only cover up to a certain amount of $ for a certain issue, so for GI Stasis (which is in simple terms what Alex had but there was other stuff going on) they only cover $140. They have a limit they will pay for each health issue so essentially Alex would have to have been even worse for them to cover more (I donât remember what the other $139 went to) the exam itself cost $130. So honestly boycott nationwide because not only did they do this but we called the day it happened and told them to cancel the policy because he was deceased and when we called to question the amount, the policy was STILL ACTIVE!
So Iâve got this thing to pay off and if itâs not paid off in 6 months it gains 14% interest, not on what you have left to pay, but on the entire loan amount. Which is almost $200 more. Iâm a student and will be doing work study but I can only work 80 hours per semester and will make less than $700 if I did all that. My dad doesnât work because he has multiple sclerosis (and so do I, yippi! đ) my mom is picking up every shift she can but we have extra medical bills because I just started a new medication after having a relapse on my old one.
Iâve been in a super depressed state since losing him, not being able to eat, drink, shower, or just generally take care of myself. This bill is a big stressor because I know itâs stressful to my mother as well and I worry about losing her too. I hope this post gets seen by people that would be willing to help me or at least pass this post on so that others could. I would never ask for this if I wasnât desperate.
Iâd do anything to hold my baby again, to tell him how much I love him, get nose kisses and give him treats, Iâd pay even more. Iâm going to post a couple more pictures of him and then my links to PayPal/cash app/ and Venmo at the bottom if anyone wants to donate to help me. If this gets a lot of attention somehow and I get enough to pay the bill off I will not let people continue to give me money, I will post updates of the care credit balance once i make payments. Hereâs my baby:
My paypal: https://www.paypal.me/mikalaalex

Dodgerâs Vet
Pairings: Chris Evans x Reader
Warnings: Swearing, sick Dodger, Fluff
Summary: Chris meets the new Veterinary in town when Dodger becomes sick. Â
A/N: I imagine this happening right after he gets back home from filming The Deep Sea Diving Resort so he has his longer hair and beard! Â Oh, and I this idea just popped into my head. Should I continue and do a couple more parts?
You walked into the clinic early Tuesday morning, turning on all the lights.  Smiling, you looked around at your facility, delighted at what you saw.  It had been a long time coming, but you finally graduated from school and you were officially a Veterinarian.  Not only that, but with all the hard work you put yourself through, you managed to open your own clinic in a small town just outside of Boston. Â
Boston is where you were from, but you wanted to move just outside of the large city and into a smaller community. Â Your grandparents, bless their souls, gave you your inheritance early because they saw how determined you were and they didnât want you to drown in bills. Â
Luckily they were very wealthy, putting into the right stocks; thatâs what you get when your grandpa worked on Wall Street his whole life. Â Because of your early inheritance, you were able to pay off your loans from school, buy yourself a quaint little house, and also open up your own Veterinarian Clinic. Â To say life was great would be an understatement. Â
It had been a little over six months since you had moved to Sudbury, and just about three months since you had opened up your clinic. Â You were nervous to say the least, unsure if your clinic would be a hit or miss in this small town. Â But you did your research and saw that the closest Vet Clinic around was nearly 15 miles away. Â
One of the things you prided yourself on is that three days a week, you were on call after hours for emergencies just in case. Â
Because your clinic had been a big success so far, you were able to hire on two other Veterinarians, one a specialty in exotic animals also, and six Veterinarian Assistance. Â To make things even better, your clinic was only a mile down the road, making it easier to head home during lunch breaks and feed your own brood of animals. Â
Currently you had three dogs and two cats; all of them rescued or saved. Â Two of your dogs you saved because people came in for emergencies and couldnât afford the services. Â They ended up leaving the clinic, and the dogs and you gladly worked on them and took them home. Â They were both Corgis, both brothers and they had gotten into some poison at the house. Luckily you were able to save them, but it was very touch and go. Â Your other dog was a Great Dane named Petunia; you found it funny how you named her such a delicate name for a big dog but she was your baby. Â Your cats were also brothers and you named them Tom and Jerry as they were both rambunctious little buggers. Â
Heading into your office, you looked over your list of patients for the day and smiled when you saw Dodger was coming in for a check-up and his shots. Â He was such a good boy and his fur was so soft; he was by far one of your favorite patients to date. Â
~~~
The day went by fairly quickly and before you knew it, there was a knock on your door. Â One of the assistance poked her head through, letting you know that Dodger was in exam room three and ready for you. Â
With a smile, you got up from your chair in your office and made your way down the hall. Â When you got to the exam room, you gave a quick knock to let them know you were there. Â
Upon opening the room, Dodger got up from his spot on the floor, tail wagging excitedly as he raced over to meet you. Â
âHi there Dodger! Yes, itâs so good to see you too,â you cooed as you knelt down, letting the happy dog give you kisses. Â âHello Lisa. Â Itâs good to see you too.â
Lisa chuckled at the dog attacking you with kisses. Â âItâs good to see you too Dr. Y/L/N.â
âOh please, call me Y/N. Dodger and  I are on a first name basis now so Iâm hoping we can do that too,â you said with a smile, looking at the woman sitting in the chair.  She gave you a nod and a smile back.  âAlright, so just a check-up and a few shots today for Dodger is that right?â
âYeah. Â Heâs got his last round of shots I believe and then he will be all caught up.â
Walking over to the wall, you pushed a button and the large metal table descended to the ground. With the help of Lisa, you got Dodger onto the table and you held him down as it moved back up into place. Â
You checked his ears and his breathing, along with a few other normal procedures before grabbing the shots off the counter. Â
His tail started wagging when he saw you grabbing the treats from the jar. Â You handed them to Lisa as she kept him busy while you administered the shots. Â He was always such a good boy, holding still for you. Â
âAnd we are all done. You did good Dodger,â you beamed giving him a scratch behind the ear as his tongue rolled out from his mouth. Â
âThank you so much Y/N. Iâm so happy you decided to move here and open a clinic. Â Dodger is so relaxed around you and you are nice and close to home,â Lisa gushed with a smile, taking your hand in hers. Â
âItâs my pleasure, really.â
âMy son should be home in the next few weeks so if Dodger needs to come back for any reason, Iâm sure it will be him bringing him here and not me.â
âWell Iâll be sad to miss you but please feel free to stop by and say hi anytime you want.â
~~~
âJust take him into the vet,â Lisa said, speaking to her son over the phone. Â
âI honestly donât know if itâs that serious Ma,â Chris said as he watched Dodger have diarrhea yet again in the backyard of his home. Â âOn second thought, heâs doing it again.
âHoney, Iâm telling you, this new vet in town is amazing. Â Dodger loves her.â
Chris sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. Â âItâs after hours. Â Iâd have to wait until tomorrow to even see if I can get an appointment in.â
âWell, what day is it?â Lisa asked.
âUmm,â Chris began to say, not even aware of what day it was as always lost track of time when he came home from filming. Â âThursday. Why?â
âOh good. Â If you are worried about Dodger at any point tonight, know that Dr. Y/L/N is on call for emergencies. Â She lives very close by to her clinic so it wonât be a problem.â
âMa, I donât want to wake him up,â
âHer,â Lisa cut him off. The vet that sees Dodger is female.â
âOk then. Â I donât want to wake HER up in the middle of the night if itâs not serious.â
âWell, thatâs fine sweetie. But keep an eye on Dodger. Â If he suddenly begins to vomit as well, then you really need to take him in.â
Later that night as Chris was getting ready for bed, close to midnight, he heard a weird sound coming from the living room. Â Rushing out of his room, he saw Dodger throwing up on the ground. Â
âFuck buddy, what is wrong with you huh? Â Did you get into something?â Â Chris began to panic, knowing he couldnât lose Dodger. Â
Grabbing his phone, he dialed the number his mom had given him. Â On the fourth ring, a groggy sounding voice answered the phone. Â
~~~
Groaning at the ringing of your phone, you rolled over in bed and answered it. Â âDr. Y/L/N.â
âUmm, yeah. Â Hi. Â My name is Chris and Iâm the owner of Dodger,â the man on the phone said frantically. Immediately you perked up at Dodgerâs name.
âHello Chris. Â Is Dodger alright?â you asked, trying not to sound panicked. Â That was the one thing about being a Vet; you got attached to your patients so easily and with Dodger involved, you were beginning to worry. Â
âNot really. Â Two days ago he began to have diarrhea, so I withheld all food and treats for 24 hours and when I fed him again this morning, well, the diarrhea came back and now heâs throwing up.â Â
âOk Chris. Â If you are willing to, I can be at my clinic in five minutes.â
âYeah,â Chris breathed out, âYeah Iâll meet you there. Â Thank you so much Dr. Y/L/N.â
âItâs not a problem at all Chris. Â Itâs what Iâm here for.â
Five minutes later you pulled up at the front of your clinic and raced to the front door to unlock it. The parking lot was deserted so Chris and Dodger had not shown up yet. Â
Walking into your office, you put down your coat and purse before heading out into the main lobby to wait for them. Â
It only took a minute before you saw a car pull into the parking lot. Â Opening the front door, you saw a man with dark hair that hung just above his ears, and a thick yet trimmed beard, opening the back of his car door.
He picked up Dodger and carried him into the clinic as you held the door open for him. Â Your heart dropped at seeing Dodger so lethargic, making you worry even more. Â You quickly locked the door behind him. Â
âLetâs take him to exam room one,â you said as you began to walk down the hallway. Â
Chris placed Dodger on the metal table as you got to work quickly examining him. Â You checked his breathing, along with to see if he had a fever. Lifting his top tip, you pressed against his pale gums. Â
âOk, so far I can tell he has a fever and he is severely dehydrated, which is common in dogs who have diarrhea and are vomiting. Â Iâd like to give him some water via an IV if you are alright with that?â you asked looking at Chris and waiting for his answer. Â
He nodded hastily. âYes. Â Yeah Iâll agree to anything as long as he gets better.â Â Your heart sunk at his words and you knew right away he was a great doggie dad; wanting to do anything for his boy. Â
You got an IV into Dodger as he lay on the table; no energy whatsoever. Â Once the water began to flow into his system, you grabbed a syringe and took a vial of blood. Â
âIâm going to go back into the lab and check his blood to see if I can find the underlying issue to whatâs wrong with him.â
Chris nodded his head as he sat on the chair next to Dodger and petting him. Â
It didnât take more than a few minutes before you came back into the room, removing your gloves from your hands. Â âWhen was the last time Dodger had a bowel movement?â
âUmmm,â Chris began to say, checking his watch, âabout twenty minutes ago. Â As I was getting my shoes on he went in the house again and I didnât have time to clean it up. Â I just wanted to get him here.â
You gave him a soft smile. âWell I think you did the right thing in bringing him here. Â I can tell his breathing is already becoming more steady from the water IV. Â But I have a favor to ask you and I completely understand if you donât want to leave him here.â
Chrisâ brows furrowed. âWhat is it?â
âI think I might know whatâs wrong with him, but the absolute 100% way to tell for sure is to get a stool sample. Â Preferably one that is not much older than 30 minutes.â
âOhâŠ.Oh,â Chris said in final realization. Â
âLike I said Chris. If you donât want to leave him here with me, I completely understand. Â We can always wait until he has another bowel movement.â
Chris jumped up from his chair, checking to make sure he had his keys, wallet and cellphone. âNo. Â Itâs really no problem at all. Â I only live a few minutes away and I really just want to get to the bottom of why heâs sick. Â Iâll be back as soon as possible.â
You sat down in the chair next to Dodger; not much else you could do at this point until Chris came back with the stool sample. Â As you sat with Dodger, your fingers ran through his thick tan fur, smiling lightly at the dog as he looked at you with hopeful eyes.
Almost fifteen minutes later, Dodger perked his head up slightly, his eyes landed on you. âYouâll be ok buddy. Â I know you will pull through. Â Youâre such a strong boy arenât you? Â Yes you are.â Â Leaning forward, you let Dodger lick you, giving you kisses, completely unaware that Chris had heard and seen the whole thing. Â
âIâve got it,â Chris said quietly, not wanting to disturb Dodger. Â
Getting up from your spot, you thanked him and headed into the lab with the stool sample. Â Placing it under the microscope, you let out a sigh as your gut was right. Â
Heading back into the room, you felt warmth envelope your body at the sight of Chris and Dodger. You were a good judge of character when it came to owners of pets and you knew Chris took the best care of Dodger that he possibly could. Â
He didnât realize you were standing there so you took a few more moments to admire the sight in front of you. Â Chris looked familiar to you, but you just couldnât quite put your finger on it. Giving up, you made yourself known.
âJust as I thought,â you said, walking into the room, arms folded over your chest. Â Chris stood up, concern washing over his face. Â âDo you want the good news first, or the good news?â
Chrisâ eyes grew wide before finally letting out a sigh, realizing there was only good news to be said.
âIâll ah, Iâll take the good news first,â he said with a smile; the first smile you had seen of the night; and boy did he look beautiful with a smile. Â
âThe good news is that I found out what is wrong with him. Â He has Giardia. Â The other good news is that once his IV is finished, you can take him home. Â Iâll give you some antibiotics to start giving him, and you need to start him on a bland diet. Â Start with rice and after a couple of days you can add in some cooked chicken. Â Feed him that for about a week and then slowly start incorporating his food back into his diet. Â He should be as good as new in no time.â
The relief was easily noticeably as Chris relaxed his shoulders; his hand resting on Dodgerâs side as he pet his dog. Â You walked forward and scratched behind Dodgerâs ear.
âHas he been around any other dogs recently?â you asked, looking up at Chris; just noticing now how tall he was compared to your frame. Â
âUmm, actually yeah. I took him to the dog park two days ago.â
You nodded, figuring that must have been where he contracted it. Â âGiardia is very contagious, especially from other dogs. Â In fact, humans can contract it as well. Â Itâs contracted through feces, or infected water or surfaces from feces. Â When you get home tonight, if you arenât too tired, make sure you clean up all the areas that Dodger has had an accident in the house very well. Â We donât want this moving to you. Â Iâm also going to give you a special shampoo for Dodger. Â It will remove any feces that perhaps maybe stuck into his fur or anywhere on him.â Â Chris nodded at your words, ready to do whatever it takes. Â
Once Dodgerâs IV was finished, you held the door open for Chris as he carried a now sleepy and relaxed Dodger into his car. Â After placing him in the backseat, Chris headed back inside to grab the antibiotics and shampoo. Â
âHow much do I owe you?â Chris asked as he took out his wallet, grabbing his credit card. Â
You waved your hands in front of him. Â âPlease, donât worry about it Chris. Â Itâs on the house.â
His hands stilled, looking up at you with shock. Â âWhat? This was considered an emergency. Itâs the middle of the night. Please, Dr. Y/L/N, itâs no problem. No matter what the cost is. Â Trust me,â he said handing over his credit card.
You smiled at him, gently pushing his hand with the card away from you. Â âI canât possibly charge you when it comes to Dodger. Â In any case of emergency, I would have happily helped, especially when it comes to him. Â Heâs become my best patient,â you said with a smile. Â âAnd please, just like I told your mother, call me Y/N.â
Chris gave you a sad smile and you could tell he was battling with himself over fighting you more, wanting to pay. Â
âAre you sure I canât pay anything?â
You chuckled, shaking your head. Â âNo. But I will let you pay for his check-up on Monday. Â Does that sound fair?â
Chris nodded, giving you another graceful smile. Â âItâs less than I was hoping for, but I guess it will have to do.â
After grabbing your purse and coat from your office, you walked Chris to the door. Â Shutting off the lights, you locked up and you both headed to your respected cars.
You paused when you got to your door; Chris doing the same at his car as he looked at you. Â âYou have my number. Â Please feel free to call if he worsens at all.â
Chris gave you a nod and a quick smile. Â âSo Iâll see you on Monday?â
Giving him your own nod and smile, you got into your car and headed back to your quant little house. Â
~~~
After Chris got home, he laid Dodger on his dog bed and began to clean the house like a mad man in any and all spots that Dodger had an accident. Â
Once he was finished he hopped into bed; his arm leaning over the side to comfort Dodger by petting him.
One thing was for sure, he couldnât get you out of his mind. Â From the minute he saw you, he thought you were so unbelievably beautiful. The way you took care of Dodger also made his heart race in such a desirably way. Â He always knew that the woman he was with had to be an animal lover.
And then when you refused to have him pay for your services? Â That got his mind reeling. Â He couldnât think of anyone who would refuse payment on an emergency service like this. Â In his mind, you seemed like the perfect woman and he couldnât wait to see you again on Monday.

Open Late--Josh Dun Imagine
new josh dun x reader fic in which you are a vet who happens to find the dog of a famous drummer. Pairing: Josh Dun x Reader Words: 1,174 Pt. coming soon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 (Your POV)
   It was an emergency that brought you in early to the clinic. Normal hours were 8 to 5 which left you plenty of time afterward to, you know, live your life, but your mom had woken you up at 6:00 saying her best friendâs cat was sick and asked if you could meet early cause âY/n sheâs really worried about her cat, and sheâs a really good friend of mine. Please, I know itâs early, but I really need you to do this for me.â Itâs not like you could say no to your mother, especially when sheâs so upset, so thatâs what brought you into the clinic at 6:30.
   It was also an emergency that kept you there late. You were just about close the clinic, in fact, you were in the middle of locking the doors when a stranger ran up to you in a panic saying that his dog was just hit by a car, and he really needed your help. It wasnât too serious, but a femur needed to be surgically fixed and placed in a cast. Despite the strangerâs thankfulness, you were just slightly resentful of the fact he kept you an extra five hours. You loved your job, really you did, but 16 hours on your feet was not something you want to do constantly.Â
   You were only a block from the clinic when something got your attention. You could hear small whimpers coming from the alleyway on your left. You donât normally walk into alleyways alone at night, but the whimpers sounded distinctly dog like, and as a vet, it was your duty to take care of animals. You couldnât leave an animal alone on a night when it was supposed to drop below 0. You were cautious, it couldâve been a trap after all, there were plenty of guys skeezy enough in your town to pull something like that, but you walked into the alley.Â
   Halfway down the alley, a small dog, a retriever puppy, was shivering against the wall. You attempted to pet it, but it shied away and whimpered, but being a vet can come in handy, and in this case, you always had a bag of treats in your purse. Holding out a treat to the dog, âcâmon little guy, I wonât hurt you. Just wanna make sure you donât freeze.â A few minutes later, some coaxing, and half a bag of treats later, the dog was placed on the lead you keep in your bag, and you were on your way home.Â
   It didnât take as long as you thought to get home; the puppy was surprisingly well trained. You apartment was smaller than you would like, but owning your own business was already hard enough on your expenses, thereâs no telling what a bigger apartment, let alone one you didnât need-- you were single after all, would do to your finances. As you walked up the stairs, you worried just a little about the prospect of this puppy meeting your yellow lab and husky. Man you really hoped this dog was friendly. You unlocked the door, and led the dog inside. Immediately the sound of your dogsâ feet hit your ears, and you silently prayed to any god that this doesnât end in a dog fight. To your enjoyment, the three dogs hit it off, and immediately chase each other around. This gives you a few minutes to shower, change, and start getting food. The dogs come running, sniffing around your feet for scraps, and itâs then that you realized they still needed to be fed, so before the water boiled for your mac and cheese, you give the dogs some kibble and water, and turn back to the stove.Â
   After finishing your dinner, you grab the puppy you find and place him on the couch. âAlright little guy, I just wanna check you out, but first let me see what your tag says.â You grab his tag, hoping to see some contact information. âJim Dun, E.S.A, contact (614) xxx-xxxx if found.â âYour owner is definitely missing you. Letâs get you checked out, and then Iâll call them and let them know your safe.â You spend a couple of minutes checking the puppy out, and you grab your phone. Checking the clock as you press the phone to your ear, you realize its a really late. âI really hope they pick up,â you mutter to the sleeping puppy on your lap as the phone rings in your ear. âHello?â âHello, sir. Um.. my nameâs Y/n. I found your dog this evening in an alley down the street from my veterinary clinic, and I just wanted to call and let you know that heâs currently at my apartment, safe and fed.â âOh thank god! Iâve been looking for him for hours. Iâm Josh, would it be possible for me to come pick him up. I know itâs late, so we can wait until tomorrow, but I kinda really want him back.â âOf course, sir. Iâd like to bring him into my clinic tomorrow to make sure that everything is good. It was almost freezing when I found him, so Iâd just want to make sure heâs alright. You could come pick him up tomorrow from the clinic.â âOh thank you,â Josh replied, âwhat is the name of your clinic, so I can come pick him up?â âOh right. Itâs called Freedom Animal Clinic. On Main Street. I open at 8:00, so you could stop by at 8:30 to come by and take your dog back.â âThanks again, Y/n. I guess Iâll see you tomorrow. Oh, by the way, Jim canât sleep unless heâs in the same bed as you, in fact, heâs trained not to, so good luck.â âThanks for the heads up, Josh. See you tomorrow, 8:30.â âGood night y/nâ Night Josh.â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   The feeling of a warm tongue was what woke you at 6:00. The little retriever puppy was resting his head on your chest and occasionally licked your chin. It would have been adorable had he not woken you up earlier than normal, but since he was young and really cute you gave him a pat on the head and climbed out of bed. Jim followed you around the apartment all morning. Even laying on the bath mat as you showered. At 7:15, each dog was given their breakfast, and were allowed 15 minutes of playtime before you put the lead around Jimâs neck and walked him out the door.
   By 8:00 you were at the clinic, greeting your receptionist with a smile and a wave as you headed to your office at the back of the clinic. You grabbed your coat, placed you stuff down, and lead the doc to one of the exam tables. A couple of your vet assistants moved in and out of the rooms with questions, paperwork, and samples from recent patients, and talked through your day. at 8:15 the clinic doors open, and since you were the only vet there currently (your friend and co-owner took a week vacation to cabo with her boyfriend) all the animals came to you. You tied Jim to the chair in the corner, and he was so well behaved that you were able to see two animals before 8:45 which was a record. You were almost done with a cat who needed a couple vaccines when your receptionist Kylie walked in to inform you that a man had come in saying that his lost dog was here. âHe says you called him last night, but I donât know if we should trust him.â It took a few seconds to process what she was telling you, but once you recalled your phone conversation and remembered the dog currently napping on the floor across the room, you told her that youâd be out in a few minutes, and that she should inform him that he needed to fill out some paperwork for Jimâs exam.Â
   Ten minutes later, you came out of the room with the frazzled, and now grumpy cat, handed him to the owner with the instructions that the cone needs to be kept on for week, and placed the file in Kylieâs basket. âThe one who came in for the dog, can I have that file?â Kylie handed you a file, and looking it over, you called âJosh Dun?â âThatâs meâ he called in reply. You look up, and spot the man with a baseball cap pulled pretty far down over his face. As you are ready to instruct him to follow you to the back, he takes off his cap, revealing bright yellow hair and a beautiful smile. Oh no you think. Heâs really hot. âIf you--â you cleared your throat âIf you could follow me Iâll show you to the room where Iâll examine Jim.â He followed closely as you kept your head buried in the paperwork because holy crap heâs hot and I look like I just rolled out of bed, and heâs making me flustered. What do I do? You walked into the room, untied Jim from the chair, and placed him on the table. You stayed silent as you examined him, so that you didnât miss anything, and ten minutes later you grabbed his chart from the end of the table, and marked that he had a clean bill of health. âJim looks great, thereâs nothing wrong with him that I could tell. No side effects from being outside or anything. Are there any existing conditions you would like me to check up on?â âYouâve done more than enough alreadyâ he said as you glanced up from Jimâs chart. âThank you for everything, y/n, really. Heâs very important to me, and I donât want to imagine what would have happened had you not found him.â âYes, I noticed he was an ESA.â You looked up and met his eyes âthat could have ended quite poorly, but you donât have to thank me, Josh, I was just doing my job.â He smiled at you as he placed Jim on the floor, and you blushed because wow what an adorable smile. âY/n?â He put a hand on your arm to stop you from walking out of the room, but it was gentle, warm, and your face flushed again. âWould you let me show you just how thankful I am? Iâd uh-- Iâd like to take you out to lunch sometime or something.â He looked away and scratched the back of his neck--a sign of nervousness you immediately picked up on, and so did Jim as he nudged Joshâs other hand with his snout. âI mean you donât have to, this is clearly an unusual circumstance, but Iâd really love to take you on a date because youâre cute and smart and attractive, and.....Iâm starting to ramble.â You shook your head, an amused smile on your face. âJosh, Iâd love to go to lunch with you.â You blushed a little as he smiled that smile again, released the breath he was holding and spoke again. âAwesome! What time works best for you?â âI get off at about 1:00 for my lunch break. If that works for you?â âYeah that worksâ he said following you out of the office. You lead him to the door, and as he was leaving, he turned around, smiled again, and said âthanks again! Iâll see you soon!â And just like that, he turned the corner, Jim in tow, and vanished from sight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   It was hard not to get distracted for the rest of the day, considering a really hot guy asked you out, but 12:30 came around, which was your last scheduled appointment before lunch, and the excitement seemed to triple. You did the workup, gave the necessary shots and medicines, checked the x-ray, and sent the owner and the dog out the door at 1:05. Just as you finished cleaning, Kylie poked her head into the room to tell you that she was taking her break and that âthe cute yellowed haired guy came back for you heâs waiting in the sitting room. Iâll let him know youâre almost ready.â You thanked her as she threw you a wink and left to go on lunch. You ducked into the back room to gather your bag and to remove your coat. You checked your hair and makeup, and made your way to the front room.Â
   You were met with a smile when you walked into the room. He was dog-less now, but he was still as handsome as this morning. âYouâll have to forgive meâ you began âI wasnât expecting a date today, so I kinda look like I just rolled out of bed.â It was true since you only had on a pair of leggings and a low cut sweater. âCut yourself a break, y/n. You literally took my breath away this morning when I saw you.â You blush as his eyes widen in shock, and you hear him whisper âI was not supposed to say that out loud.â âItâs okay, Josh. Iâm flattered, really. To be completely honest, you were not what I was expecting when I called you last night.â He just smiled as you closed the door, locked it, and began the walk to his car. âSo...where are we going?â âThereâs this really small cafe on the edge of town that I like. Iâd thought Iâd take you thereâ he replied as he opened the car door for you. âSounds perfect.â You sat in silence for a few minutes as he made his way out of the town, and since the silence wasnât uncomfortable, as you thought it would be, you did not expect it to be broken. Which is why you were so startled when he said âso what did you expect, you know, when you called?â âI expected some college douchebag or something. Someone bland. I donât know itâs stupid.â âSo Iâm not bland or a douchebag? Well thatâs good to knowâ he chuckled. It was at this moment he pulled up to a small cafe bistro about ten minutes outside of town. The cafe front was floor to ceiling with an awning above the door that read âLA LA Land Cafe and Bistro.â The front had about five tables, each with a small floral centerpiece and beautiful place settings. As Josh talked to the hostess about seating, you got a look around the inside. It was quaint, but despite being small, it had a very homey feel. The interior was themed around light blue and white. The floors were marble with light blue walls. The counters and table were all red oak wood. Fairy lights were strung throughout the whole cafe. The whole things was quite beautiful, and just the place you imagined going on a first date.Â
The hostess led you and Josh to the table in the back corner, as per the request of Josh, and sat you down. âI get you both some waters, and Iâll come to take your orders shortlyâ the waitress said with a smile as she turned to leave. You and Josh read the menu in relative silence, and when the waitress returned, you both ordered your food. As she turned to leave, she winked at Josh which sent an unnecessary and shocking volt of jealousy through you. He didnât seem to notice though, as he was focused on you. âSo,â he began, âwhat led you to become a veterinarian?â That question started off all the conversation. You told him about how you had a pet die when you were young and that had started your career path. The two of you went back and forth about hobbies and interests. The conversation flowed relatively smoothly until the topic of his job came up. When you asked what he did for a living, he paused for about a minute before responding with âI mess around with music,â and he changed the topic as he asked you another question. You couldnât help but wonder why heâd hesitated, and now that you were thinking about him, you couldnât but to wonder why heâd had his hat pulled far over his head while he sat in your waiting room and why heâd taken you outside the main city to visit this restaurant when there were plenty of these small cafes in the city, in fact there were like four on the same street as your clinic. It seemed like he was hiding something. It was like he didnât want to be seen, like he was hiding his face for some reason, and of course, being a single woman and all, warning bells went off as you came to that conclusion. People donât usually try to hide in public without reason, and the only reason that came to your mind was serial killer or rapist, neither of which you wanted to be around. It was then that you noticed him staring at you, a look of concern on his face. âY/n, whatâs wrong?âÂ
   He must have seen your worry on your face because he just stared at you as he waited for your answer. You didnât think itâd be a good idea to ask if he was a criminal, but you couldnât help yourself when you asked âare you a serial killer or something? Because I noticed earlier you were trying to hide your face in my clinic, and then you take me out to the edges of town when there are tons of small cafes in the middle of Columbus, and when I asked what you do, you hesitated like you were coming up with a lie. I mean, what does âmess around with music even meanâ? Iâm sorry, this is so bad. I donât even know you. I should be leaving.â You stood up as you swallowed down a breath because God knows that whole rant took one breath, but before you could turn he gently placed his hand on yours. âY/n, I see where youâre coming from, but I promise Iâm not a serial killer or anything. Please, sit down and let me explain.â He seemed extremely anxious, and despite your instincts telling you to flee before he poisoned you or something, you hesitantly sat back down. âI know itâs suspicious of me to do all of that stuff, and I can see how you could assume Iâm some type of criminal, but Iâve been doing all this for a reason.â He released a huge breath, like he was trying to calm himself down, and before he continued, he rubbed the back of his neck in that endearing way again. âIâm sorry about all this, but I knew you didnât know who I was, and it was naive of me to believe that I could be this selfish without consequences. Itâs just that being a famous drummer doesnât really make life, especially dating, easy for me, and you not knowing who I was really showed me that you were interested in plain, old Josh Dun, and not Josh Dun the Drummer of famous musical duo Twenty One Pilots.â His faced was downcast, and you could tell he was really upset. You felt horrible. He just wanted to go out on a nice date with someone, and you had to ruin it with your paranoia. God, were you an idiot. âJosh?â You hesitate as he looks up and meets your eyes. âIâm so sorry. I didnât realize... I mean what kind of idiot asks someone if theyâre a serial killer? Iâm so sorry i accused you of that, I was just worried... and I know thatâs no excuse. I understand if you want to leave. I wonât be offended. I know that was so bad, and Iâm really sorry...â you trailed off into silence, afraid youâd embarrass yourself and him even further. An agonizing twenty seconds passed before he broke out into a huge smile. âItâs okay, y/n, I get it. I just hope you arenât put off by the whole âfamousâ thing. The paparazzi could be photographing us at this very moment. It can get kinda obnoxious.â âOh, please. Having photos taken of me is no big deal as long as Iâm with you.â You choose to ignore how totally creepy that sounded. âBesides, youâre a drummer? Thatâs totally hot.â He blushed, smiled, and replied with a small laugh as you blushed in horror at having said that at loud. It was then the waitress came to take your orders. She took yours first, barely hiding her disdain for you, but you thought it was simply because you two were currently the only ones in her section, and therefore, were the cause of her actually having to do her job, but you were quickly proven wrong as she turned to Josh with the brightest smile on her face. âWhat can I get for you, sir?â The way she said sir bothered you. She was blatantly flirting with him right in front of you, as if you werenât currently on a date with him. She smiled the entire time Josh was ordering, and as she walked away she winked and said âIâll have that right out to you, sir, as fast as possible.â She walked away, her hips swaying almost comically, and you glared with all your might as she walked away. How dare she do that? You were very clearly here on a date, and she just up and flirts without any hesitation what a bi- âWhatâs wrong?â Joshâs question interrupted your inner monologue, and you again turned to face him. âWhat do you mean?â âYour face right then was the embodiment of âif looks could kill.â He smiled reassuringly. âDo you know her? Why do you look so upset?â His questions confused you because he was clearly aware she had been flirting hadnât he? No one is that oblivious. No way did he not know. âYouâre aware that our waitress has been flirting with you this entire time right?â âNo.â He deadpanned. âShe was?â You responded with and almost hysterical laugh. âOf course she was. The smiles and the winks and the slightly sexual way she called you sir were all clues. You seriously couldnât tell?â âNo I couldnât tell because I was only paying attention to you.â He smiled as you blushed. âIâm sorry that the waitressâ flirting made you jealous.â He smirked as you gaped. âJealous? I was not jealous. I was just---uh---just upset that she would have the audacity---that she could so blatantly flirt with you while we were obviously on a date.â You werenât exactly lying, but you could tell that Josh didnât believe you. âWhatever you say.â He smirked again as your waitress, Brittany, as you actually looked, slammed your plate down in front of you. You then watched as she gently placed Joshâs food down in front of him, slowly leaned over to whisper something in his ear, and seductively, or as much as she could manage, walk away. You turned back to Josh to be greeted by downcast eyes and a frown.Â
  You began to eat as you waited for him to tell you what that bitch said, but he only began to eat. After a couple minutes in silence, while you subtly glanced at him every few seconds, you decided to ask âJosh? What did she want?â He put his sandwich down, and wiped his hands clean before answering, almost like he was stalling for time. âWell...she said that if I wanted better company that I could call her.â He said it quietly, like he knew that it would set you off, and set you off it did. You blood boiled with anger. How dare she? The flirting, that could have been misread or misunderstood, but this? This was a new low. To directly tell Josh that she was a better option was rude and insulting. Who does she think she is? But as you thought about it, it began to make sense. She was 6x prettier than you. She had a better body, a less busy job. She seemed like the perfect type for a guy like him. Why shouldnât he go for it. It wasnât like this date was gonna turn into anything. He was just thanking you. How could someone like Josh ever date someone as plain and ugly as you? âIâm gonna go to the bathroomâ you supplied as you realized you had been sitting quietly for a couple of minutes.
  You found the restroom on the far side of the building, perfect. You called yourself an Uber, not wanting to inconvenience Josh anymore today, and washed your hands. As you moved toward the door, it swung open, almost hitting you in the process, and Brittany stepped inside. Of fucking course. âOh itâs you?â she said. She eyed you up and down, sizing you up, scouting the competition. âIâm surprised to see you in here, while thereâs a hot piece out there waiting for you. Or maybe not. Maybe he left because how could someone like that ever go out with someone like you. Heâs an 11, and youâre a...â she paused, like she was contemplating, âa 4 on a good day. You shouldnât even bother with him. Itâll never work.â She giggled and continued, âitâs your first date right?â She paused again waiting for an answer. After your refusal to respond she continued, âI thought so.â She smirked like an evil villain. This shit reminded you too much of high school. âYou should just quit while youâre ahead.â With that, she went into a stall. Your phone buzzed in your hand, alerting you that your Uber had arrived, yet you stood there, tears threatening to spill, until you heard the flushing of a toilet. You stepped out of the bathroom before she came out, and headed back to the table. Josh looked up from his food as you approached, and was about to say something, but you cut him off. âHereâs twenty dollars for my mealâ you said with pleasant detachment. âThanks for taking me to lunch,â and with that you turned and left, getting straight into the Uber that was waiting for you.Â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   It was only a ten minute drive until you arrived back at the clinic. You stepped out, thanked the Uber driver, and opened the door. Kylie had already returned, and was about to ask about the date when you interjected âcancel all appointments for the rest of the week. I wonât be at work until Lili returns from Cabo. You have the rest of the week off. Donât worry, youâll get paid. Iâm going home,â and with that, you turned down the hallway to gather your stuff. You turned of lights and computers as you made your way back to the front, where Kylie was tidying her work station. âIs everything okay, Miss y/n?â Kylie asked as you headed toward the door. âYes, Kylie, everything is okay. Please lock the door and turn off all the lights when you leave. Thank you.â She gave you a small nod, and you began your walk home. As you walked the tears finally began to fall. It was stupid letting that stupid waitress get into your head, but it was no question that she was right, and now youâve lost all chances with Josh, which was probably for the best. The twenty minute walk to you apartment felt like three hours as you spent every second thinking about Josh and that stupid fucking waitress and how you were no good and stupid. It was exhausting, which is why you arrived home at 3:30, fed the dogs, and fell right into bed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Joshâs POV)
I watched her get into the car and leave. What was that all about? Her meal was half finished, and we were enjoying ourselves, at least I thought so. So why did she leave? The twenty she left for her food was sitting next to her plate, and I was so confused because she knew this was a date, and that I was paying. Why would she do that? What happened in the last ten minutes that made her want to leave as fast as she can? I turn my head to the left just in time to see our waitress exit the bathroom and smile at me. What was he deal anyway? She was headed in my direction when I realized that the waitress had just come out of the bathroom with y/n. She must have said something to y/n.
She stopped in front of the table with a smile and said âcan I get you anything else? How about you...â she trailed off as she turned to y/nâs empty seat. She tried to conceal her smile as she turned back toward me and said, with so much innocence âWill she be coming back?â It was her tone, the way she obviously new the answer, that really infuriated me. âI donât think she will...â I glanced at the Brittany written on her name tag for the first time, âJessica.â She frowned at the obvious wrong name. âYou wouldnât happen to know everything about that would you?â âI donât know what you mean?â It was sly--her usage of the phrase--it was meant as a challenge, and I was too upset to back down. âWhat did you say to her?â I demanded, my tone holding nothing but barely contained outrage. âWell...â she started as she took the seat across from me, where minutes ago y/n sat. It mad the anger even more prominent in my mind, âI ran into her in the bathroom, and we talked for a while.â She stopped there, still smiling. Another challenge. âAnd what did you talk about, Sarah?â She frowned again. âWell I just told her how she was wasting her time with you. She doesnât deserve you. A hag like that shouldnât have even gotten a date with someone as hot as you.â She squeezed my bicep, an obvious flirtation despite my recognizable anger. âI told her she should quit while she was ahead because a guy like you would never stay with someone as bland as her.â She gave a small smile, âwhy date that whore when you can have someone like me, someone who will give you everything you could ever want.â She giggled, then whispered âIâm surprisingly flexible, you know?â âYou know what, Nancy?â I pried her fingers from my arm. âI wouldnât touch someone like you with a thirty foot pole. Good luck busking tables, I have a hot veterinarian to find.â With that I stood, dropped money for the rest of the check, and made my way out of the cafe.Â
The ten minute drive back to the clinic seemed to take forever, and when I got there the receptionist, Kylie, was locking up. âWhereâs y/n?â She jumped first, with shock, then turned. âWouldnât you like to know?â She glared at me, obviously she had heard that this date didnât go well. âLook, this wasnât my fault, okay. Our waitress kept telling y/n that she didnât deserve me or something like that, and I think y/n believed her or something. I really need to see her. I need to tell her that the bitch was wrong.â Kylie hesitated, obviously thinking things over.âOkay, she isnât planning on working for the rest of the week, but if your dog happens to have an emergency Iâm sure she would take your call.â With that she left, turning the corner a few moments later. She was telling me I could call y/n, but she didnât give me a number. I turned to leave, but a sign on the door caught my attention. âClinic closed for the week. Appointments have been rescheduled. In case of emergency call doctor Y/L/N at (555)***-****.â This was it. I entered the number into my phone and drove home.
Samâs Dog Summer
âSam, What do you want to do for the summer?â his mom asked. It was the last week of his sophomore year in high school, and sam wasnât interested in any of the typical summer programs. âMom, I want to spend the summer as a dog. Your dog.â he replied. âWhat?!?!â his mom could not believe her ears. âIâve always loved dogs, and want to see what it would be like to be one. Besides, all of my friends will be gone and camp is so boring. â he told her. Samâs mom thought for a moment. Did he really want to do this? is he just testing me? âif you really want to do this you must remain naked the whole vacation, eat out of a dog bowl sleep on a dog bed use the bathroom outside like a dog obey my commands and no t.v. movies or video games.â she offered. She figured he would never agree with the inclusion of no tav. and video games, but he responded, âFine, lets do it.â A couple of days later Sam's mom took him to the pet store to pick out his collar, leash, bowl, and toys. âAre you sure you want to do this?â She asked him. âNever more soâ he replied. He looked carefully knowing the collar would be the only thing he would be wearing for the next few months. He hoped it would be a warm summer. Sam picked out a collar and leash combo with a patriotic motif. It was red white and blue and covered in flags. He picked out a shiny metal bowl, which his mom had engraved with his name. They picked out some squeaky toys, rawhide chews, and a big bag of dry dog food. Mom picked out a dog house for rainy days. Before they left sam had an ID tag made with his name on it for his collar. While sam was at school for his last day of 10th grade, his mother had a privacy fence installed around their backyard, and found a nice shady spot for the dog house. When Sam walked in from school he headed straight to his room. He found all of his clothes boxed up and a dog bed in the middle of the floor. All of his other furniture was gone. âGood youâre home.â his mom greeted him. âStrip!â she ordered. âBut I have to go to the bathroomâ he protested. âAfter youâre naked and outside Dogâ she told him. Sam remembered the agreement and quickly stripped off his shirt, pants, shoes, and socks. He hesitated about his underwear, but shed that too after a moment. His mom looked him up and down, this was the first time sheâd seen him totally naked for a long time. She snapped the collar around his neck and led him out the back door. â Your toilet awaits.â she announced. While sam was exploring the backyard, his mom scooped his clothes up and locked them away. âWell this saves on a summer wardrobeâ she thought. Sam walked around the yard for a while enjoying the breeze on his bare skin and penis. Soon the urge to pee hit him and he decided to pee where he was standing. it felt strange to be peeing in the yard and yet somehow liberating. he decided to checkout his dog house next. He found it was just roomy enough for him to lie down in. Next to the dog house was a bowl of water. he stuck his head in and tried to drink. it took a lot more effort than he thought it would. After lounging in the sun for a while his mom called him for dinner. âCome sam, Dinner, Good Boy!â sam got up and ran into the house as fast as he could. The instant he walked in the door he could smell the steak and french fries that his mother had cooked. He was starving. She led him to the kitchen and said âHereâs your dinerâ. and showed him to a bowl of dry dog food. The dog food nuggets were a huge let down after smelling the steak. The dog food tasted awful, but it was all he was fed so he ate it anyway. âLets see how long he keeps this upâ thought his mom as she watched him over her steak. Sam spent the rest of the evening lying on the floor of the living room as his mother watched CSI, as dogs arenât allowed on the furniture. Secretly his mom thought this was a strange way for her son to want to spend his summer, but enjoyed seeing him completely helpless and dependent on her. She decided to put him out one last time before putting him to bed. This time sam had to do both so he ended up squatting on the lawn. When he came back in, she led him up to his dog bed and left him there for the evening. As she tucked herself into bed, she thought maybe this wont be so bad after all. Sam certainly seemed to be enjoying it. It took sam a while to fall asleep, partly from newness of the bed, but also due to the giddiness of the whole situation. He had never expected his mother to agree to it. Sam Slept in, and when he got up he remembered the best dreams he had ever had. He also had the biggest erection he had ever had. He waited for it to go down, but he had to go to the bathroom so he found his mom to let him out. She looked at his erection and smiled as she opened the door. She watched him from the dining room window, and saw that he had no embarrassment about being naked, or using the yard as a toilet. After finishing her breakfast Sam's mom took a tennis ball out with her and asked sam if he wanted to play fetch. He nodded his assent, so she threw the ball. Sam ran after it. when he reached it he reached down to pick it up and his mother said âNot like that, dogs pick them up with their mouths.â Sam instantly bent down and scooped up the ball in his mouth. He carried it back to his mom. They continued to play this way for an hour. She noticed that he started panting. That was a nice touch. She couldnât help but stare at her sweat covered son as he chased the ball across the yard. After a hard morning of play, Mom brought him in for lunch and watched as he ate. âYou know, if youâre going to be a dog, you should be walking on all fours.â. âOK mom, whatever you say.â he replied and dropped to his knees. They played most of the rest of the weekend and mom petted Sam's back enjoying him more as her pet than her son. When the week started Samâs mom had to go back to work so sam was told he would be spending the day outside. It was nice and sunny so sam was thrilled. He gulped down his breakfast that morning and ran out the door to explore the back yard. Work was boring that day, and when she got home she found sam sunning himself in the yard. Sam had hardly noticed the passage of time, he had been chasing birds and the occasional squirrel and had thought that this was how he should be spending his his life, not sitting in a boring classroom. She walked out and patted him on the stomach, and led him inside. She fed sam a special treat of beef with his dog food which he lapped right up. As the weeks progressed Sam's mom noticed that he seemed to be taking to this dog thing better that she thought he would. If anything he almost seemed to be acting more like a dog than a boy with each passing day. Mom was a little concerned, but found herself liking the way he was acting and wishing she could keep him this way forever. Sam's mom did some research and found places where people enjoyed acting like animals and found there was a vet in her area who sometimes saw people like that. She decided to make and appointment for sam for the weekend. The vet agreed to see them, but only late at night when the office was closed for his âregularâ clients. Sam's mom found a robe and made him put it on for the ride even though he resisted. âIâm a dogâ sam thought. âDogs donât wear clothes.â the instant they were in the office sam shed the robe and licked the vet. He did a full examination, and declared that Sam was fit and asked his mom if she wanted to have him vaccinated. âI sure do. I would also like to have him microchipped in case he ever gets loose.â She replied. âOf course, just fill out this paperworkâ said the vet and handed her a stack of forms. While Sam's mom was filling them out the vet filled several syringes and proceeded to inject sam with the fluids. He whined a little but took them well. âGood Dog!â the vet praised him. âHeâll be a little sore for a couple days but should be all right. Here are you rabies tag and a tag for the id chip.â âThanks. now I can get a license for him.â Sam's mom told the vet. Sam sat on his haunches on the exam room floor and found he only vaguely understood what they were talking about. Something told him he should understand more, but he knew his mother only wanted what was best for him so he didnât let it worry him. âWould you like to have him neutered?â the vet asked. Sam's mom thought for a few minuets, but then decided âNot yet, thanks.â âOk, lets settle up the bill and get a copy of the records for you.â the vet said. Mom paid and tried to get sam to wear the robe to the car. He refused and since it was dark his mom just let him walk to the car in all his naked glory, hoping no one would see them. The drive home from the vet was peaceful, as it was late and not many cars were on the road. Samâs mom (Owner?) reflected back on how the summer had played out so far. She had enjoyed talking and spending time with sam, but he had always spent most of his time watching tv or playing video games. Although they no longer spoke (everyone knows dogs donât talk) Sam was spending more time with his mom and they seemed to be connecting in ways they never had before. She looked in the rearview mirror and saw sam sleeping on the back seat of the car. His legs were waving like he was running and he was moving his rear as if he had a wagging tail. Then next morning Sam's mom got a call from one of her friends that he was going out of town and wanted someone to watch his dog. Sam was sitting on the floor staring up at her with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. âWould you like a friend to play with?â She asked him. âwoof woof woofâ he replied. She told her friend she would love to watch his dog and he could drop it off before he left. When Ryan dropped off Fangs, Sam was still in the backyard. âI hope he doesn't give you any trouble this week. Just feed him and let him out and everything should be great.â He instructed. âhave a great tripâ Sam's mom told him. After he left she brought sam in and let them greet each other. They sniffed and licked at each other. Sam's mom couldnât tell the difference between the dog and her sons behavior. The two spent most of the week chasing each other around the yard, rolling in the mud and even shared a rawhide chew before heading off to dinner. When Sam's mom saw them covered in mud, she had to hose them down before she would let them into the house. When Ryan picked up fangs the next morning, Sam's mom decided to confide in him as they had been flirting across the fence for months. âSam told me he wanted to spend the summer as my dog. I could hardly believe my ears when he said it. I thought he was crazy, but heâs taken to it like a fish to water.â âThat's odd, but why are you telling me this?â Ryan wondered. âWeâll Iâm going to have to go to a conference for work, that I canât get out of. Would you mind watching him for a while?â She asked. He readily agreed since she had watched fangs for him and they had gotten along so well. Sam's mom dropped him off early the next morning so she could catch her flight. Ryan took one look at Sam and smiled. âIâve got big plans for you this week.â Ryan spent the next few hours watching Sam to see how far he had taken to his new roll as a dog. Sam's behavior was almost exactly what you would expect to see from an average dog. He tried to talk to him but anything more than basic commands were met with a puzzled look. âGoodâ Ryan thought. âHis mom will be pleased when she gets him back.â Sam's sleep was uneasy and he awoke feeling tired. when Ryan greeted him in the morning he sensed that something was different. âSo you want to be a dog do you?!?â he asked. âyour vet and I have been talking, and we have an appointment set up for you. I think youâll like the results.â The vet was normally closed on Sundays but had come in early to set up for the special procedures that Ryan had requested. âYouâre sure you have the ok to do this?â the vet asked. âyep heres the formâ Ryan produced a form on which he had forged Sam's moms signature. âVery well, Iâll get started in a few minuets. let me set up a few last things.â Ryan had requested that the vet remove most of his fingers and thumbs, neuter him, and attempt to graft a tail unto him. This first round of surgeries would produce a dramatic result and make sam feel more like a dog he was becoming. âThe surgeries went well, and you can take him home in a few hours. I suggest you set a place where he can sleep in a comfortable position for the next few days. If he takes well to this, we can do the next round in a few days once he's had time to heal.â the vet instructed Ryan. He also handed him some bottles of pills for the pain and to prevent an infection. When Ryan finally took sam home, he was still groggy from the anastesia and was heavily bandaged around his waist and hands. Ryan could see a long furry tail sticking out from under the bandages. âThe perfect touchâ He thought to himself. It would be several days before the bandages would come off and he could see how well the surgeries went, but so far Ryan was pleased. When sam came to, he knew something was different but he couldnât quite put his finger on it. The vet had given him enough pain killer that he had a nice buzz. The vet had also decided to forgo the typical lampshade collar, as Sam's teeth werenât sharp enough to damage any of the incision sites. Ryan walked into the room to refill the food and water dishes that sam and fangs had been sharing, and when he saw that sam was awake, he smiled. âGlad to see youâre finally upâ he said. Sam Tried a wag and felt something flopping against the floor. Looking around he saw a tail swishing weakly behind him. Something in his mind said âBut I donât have a tail?â. When sam tried to rise he felt a jolt of pain in his hands- no now definitely paws. He looked down and saw they were very different than he remembered them. Sam realized he was very hungry and gingerly maneuvered himself the few steps to the food dish. He was happy to see the softer moist food instead of his normal dryer fare. He ate as much as he could than he drained the water dish. Ryan was pleased to see him eating, But was distressed because he had hoped to get one more surgery done to Sam's hind legs to make it easier for him him to walk and some facial surgery in an attempt to give him a snout. Sam's recovery had taken longer than expected and his mother was due back soon. Ryan wondered how she would react to the changes. He felt that she would have some trouble accepting them, but knew that he could sweet talk her into accepting them. He had been watching them since they moved into the neighborhood, and had gotten to know both in ways most people never do. He had only recently started flirting with Sam's mom in an effort to get himself into their lives. This twist had been exactly what he had been waiting for. He had known of Sam's request long before he had asked for dog sitting help. He had parked his car in the airport lot and caught a cab home. It was fairly expensive, but well worth it. Ryan had hastened the mental transformation with hypnotic suggestion, which sam had proved very susceptible to, but the majority of the change had been done by sam himself. This was truly the way he felt he should be though sam would never have been able to put it into words on his own. Sam grew stronger over the next couple of days and when the bandages were fully removed he seemed to be able to move without pain. His tail still seemed kind of weak but he was gaining control quickly. Ryan made sure sam was clean and neat in preparation for his mom to pick him up. When she saw him she nearly fainted. When she left she had left her son, and was now picking up some strange cross between the man and dog. Secretly she had hoped to keep him this way, but she was not prepared to take such drastic steps. âWhat have you done to him?!??â she demanded. Ryan replied âI have only helped him become what he was truly destined to be.â Sam's mom was furious that she had not been consulted, but was not upset with the results. ânow I can keep him with me foreverâ she thought. She had already started selling off his clothes and stuff and had made a tidy sum. Acting as indignant as possible, she grabbed sam and dragged him home. She wasnât thinking too clearly and didnât care if anyone saw them. Ryan was smart enough not to try to stop her or follow. âGive her a day or two, and sheâll see that this was a change for the better.â he thought to himself. He watched carefully through the window of his house to be sure they would be all right. Sam's mom considered her possible courses of action over the next few days. While she was sitting in the chair, sam came over and put his head in her lap. He let out a small whine to get her attention, and she soon found herself scratching his head and petting him. There was no way Sam could return to school. It was due to start in a few days, so she would have to withdraw him. She hoped she would not have to explain too much, maybe just home schooling would be a good explanation. What was she going to do about Ryan? She was still mad, but she was deeply attracted to him. Whenever she tried to complain to him she fell under his spell and just started agreeing to whatever he wanted. Before she knew it, she had withdrawn sam for school (the classes were over crowded already and the staff seemed happy to have one less student to worry about. Sam's mom and Ryan had also scheduled sam in for his second round of surgeries since he was already half way through. Ryan had even convinced her to let him move in to âhelp take care of Sam after the surgeries.â Sam's recovery seemed to go much quicker this time with both of them nursing him back to health. He took to the leg modifications like a fish to water. He seemed to move around more easily and had less trouble with things getting in the way when he relieved himself. The vet had proven him self to be a prodigy with how smoothly everything went, and how few scars and how small they were. As she watched him running through the yard with fangs playing, she was happy that she had decided to go forward. Once the surgeries were complete sam could almost be mistaken for a normal dog. There was still a problem with giving him a coat of fur, but he had a nice snout, and with a few modifications his tongue hung out. The vet had warned that he would have to learn how to talk again, but sam hadnât said anything but âWoof Woofâ since the summer started. He now had control over his tail and could wag it as well as any other dog. He and fangs had become great friends, almost like they were from the same litter. Behaviorally Sam was now fully canine. There was no human left and sam seemed quite happy with his new life. As the weather stared to turn colder sam spent much more time inside with his two masters and friend. Life could not be better, Sam's mom thought and had convinced herself that Ryan's ideas and surgeries were for the best for sam. She was impressed with the results. and knew that this was how things should be. They finished getting rid of all of Sam's human stuff and used the money to pay off all of her bills. This gave her and Ryan more time to spend together. Ryan turned his attention to Sam's mom, and thought âI wonder how she would like to be a dog?â
Iâve been in a pretty rough place this week, where I am just tired of life. Not to the extent that Iâm suicidal, so donât worry there. But, at a place where all I want to do is curl up in the darkness and cry. That feeling of being useless and a disappointment overwhelming alongside money stress. To be fair, the money stress I guess is the reason why I feel useless and a disappointment.
I havenât worked a job in over 10 years because of physical disabilities. Iâve got a wide range: Rheumatoid Arthritis, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, holes in some of my nerve canals (Iâm sure there is technical term for it, but I canât remember it), and bulges in my lower back and neck. So Iâm in a lot of pain every day, I canât go a day without it. Iâve got my RA under control, I still have some pain, but itâs not nearly as bad as it once was; but it still limits what I can do. All the spinal issues? Yeah, thats bad. And nothing can be done about it until it progresses to the point of surgery (a prospect Iâm really not looking forward to). My pain management has given me some medication to help, but I doesnât nearly do enough and she wonât give me anything stronger. It doesnât help that doctors are so gun shy about prescribing narcotics - the only way they will give those out really anymore is if you have cancer, so Iâm having to look into possible alternatives because I canât live in this much pain. I know all this pain and lack of sleep because of it more than likely isnât helping my state of mind.
Last year I wanted to feel useful and maybe help with our money issues - Iâve come to the conclusion I wonât be able to work a ânormalâ job again, no one wants someone with the amount of limitations I have working for them. So I started my Etsy store. I knew I wouldnât make a whole lot, but maybe enough to help with things we need? Like clothes, food; just small things that may come up. Iâve hit a really dry patch in sales. Iâm lucky if I sale 1 item every couple weeks. This has been a contributing factor to my dark mood. I feel like a disappointment to the people around me that helped start my Etsy store (my husband and mother-in-law), even though I know better - itâs more that Iâm disappointed in myself. I thought I could help and turns out I couldnât even do this little bit.
I canât help with the things that are popping up, like paying back the $225 for Dracoâs vet bill (weâve only managed to pay back $25), Draco needs a flea collar (itâs that time of year, so far heâs ok only found 1 on him but I want to get ahead so it doesnât become a problem), we need a fan for our bedroom (it getting hotter and becoming uncomfortable at night, which isnât helping my sleep situation), my husband needs an eye exam and more than likely new glasses, he also needs a knee brace (itâs getting hard for him to walk =/ ), I need new compression gloves (they actually help a lot with the pain in my hands and wrists), and this list goes on. And I havenât been able to help with any of it. My husbandâs money goes all to bills and food so we have no extra money for any of these things.
Iâve tried filing for disability (SSI) a number of times in those 10 years, but always denied (which isnât un-normal. Good old government system). I always told myself that I would appeal, but for whatever reason I never did. About... 2 years ago(? ish) I filed again and finally got a lawyer to appeal when I was denied. The lawyer was straight up with me, and let me know that the appealing process would take at minimum 3 years. But I finally got my court date with the judge, itâs in October. Iâve never gotten this far in the process to know what happens next. Like, if I win the appeal how long will it take to start receiving the SSI? Thatâs if I win, with my dark mood Iâm telling myself that I wonât that theyâll take one look at me and say Iâm just lazy.
I just really needed to vent my frustrations with myself and my situation. I vent to my husband, of course, but I donât try to do it a lot because when we talk about my pain (physically and mentally) he feels bad because he canât do anything to help.
This is so me right now
Why is my dog eating grass? Is my dog seriously sick or is this normal?
What is the Number 1 Reason dogs eat grass?Â
Imagine you go for a walk with your dogs, and you stop at the park, you meet your friend and you have a chat with your friend and her dog. Last month I meet my friend at the dog park and I could see on her face that something is worrying her. I saw her several times talking to her dog Ceasar, bad dog Ceasar no grass eating. A bit surprised I look at her and ask her what is wrong with her dog eating grass. I can tell you if she could have shot me with her eyes she would have. Then she tells me that Ceasar her dog eating grass again. She asks me if I think that her dog is sick because of eating grass again. I answered her no nothing wrong with it. I laugh and talk to my friend that this is normal. But she thinks something is wrong with Ceasar. Sometimes dogs need that. I could not convince her, the next day she went to the veterinarian they tested Cesar and little Cesar is totally healthy. ( Ceasar is a Beatle)
Dogs, Nature and the Environment.
All my life I have had dogs and I have never seen any dog who is not eating grass. My grandmother used to say when dogs eat grass it means it is going to storm and rain. I found that always funny and could never understand what is the meaning of that saying. I believe that dogs eat grass because of the chlorophyll that is plenty in the grass. Chlorophyll absorbs all the toxins in the body. So I guess it is like a detox for them. Went on the World Wide Web and the only thing I could find is this about "dog eating grass." Farmers Almanac about a dog eating grass. It states when dogs eat grass you can expect a severe storm. It is the Almanac Farmers Calendar. It also says... Dogs will eat at some point some grass and some dog they love the greens in the diet. Maybe it is fibre they need or the taste but I guess some goes back into the evolution of a dog. I know a lot of experts will now shake their head, but I believe an animal follows an instinct and takes that what feels good. It is different for us human. Most of us have lost our gut feeling or so-called Instinct. Dogs have been domesticated in the early centuries. Well, nothing of this has something to do with this old wifeâs tale. But if any of you can shed light on it please feel free to let us know.
Is there any harm in my dog eating grass?
I honestly can tell you no. From my experience, all my dogs ate grass and most of our dogs lived a long life. Our Dachshund loved grass and he was 22 when he died. ( as long as it is not poison grass or it is sprayed with pesticides.) It is up to if you should let your dog eat grass.
Sometimes a multivitamin helps your dog if he is lacking in nutrition.Â
A Healthy Diet will not prevent your dog eating grass.
Dogs eat all meat, grass, fruits and veggies. According to History dogs eat their food whenever they could get it. In the wild dogs will eat grass on a regular base just to supplement their nutrition. It is also a fact that most grass types are not poison and a dog will not throw up if the dog is healthy. The funny thing is what I can see on my dogs they have different preferences on which grass they eat or prefer. I guess grass does taste good to dogs otherwise they would not eat it. Maybe it tastes like a fresh green salad to us it tastes to dogs.
Is it true that when a dog has an upset stomach, that is the "why" dogs eat grass?
Sometimes dogs eat grass when they have an upset stomach. It is a natural reaction or calls it instinct. It helps them obviously to vomit easier. Healthy dogs when they eat grass they do not throw up. Veterinarians believe that sometimes dogs eat grass when they want to induce vomiting.
There is nothing wrong with a healthy dog eating grass.
Even if your dog has a well-balanced diet, it will still go for the green grass on a regular basis. There is nothing wrong with it, as long there is no pesticide on the grass.
Dog Nutrition has nothing to do with it that dogs eat grass, this is my opinion, and I believe a dog knows for whatever reason it wants to eat grass it will eat grass. Dogs are so highly domesticated and pure breeds are so manipulated that some dogs don't even know they are a dog anymore. No one can say for sure why dogs eat grass but I believe it is a kind of nutrient they need and get from the grass, what we cannot provide in their daily nutrition. Can you answer the question why is it then that dog eat grass? I honestly have to say no. Dogs enjoy the taste of grass differently than other dogs. Some dogs take a mouthful and some just nibble on a few blades of grass. Keep in mind that dogs eat things that disgust the human owner. Like dirty socks and gristle from the trash can. Some dogs can eat constantly, and some dogs donât eat much. The evolution of dogs is as omnivores and scavengers. If you think about when a dog has to hunt in the wild most of the animals eat animals that plant eater like rabbits, squirrels, birds etc. and maybe because of their prey they get used to the taste and adopted it. What should I feed my Dog, shall I change the Diet... I feed my dogs with home cooked dog food that includes meat and veggies they do have a balanced diet but all of our dogs eat grass. Each of our dogs has their preferences to grass. I do not know about wolves if they eat grass but I know from living in Africa that lions eat grass when they can find it. Even people believe a dog will eat grass to cure himself. In my opinion, think as long a dog is healthy and eats grass it is ok. There is no solid evidence that eating grass is bad or good for your dog. If you feel your dog is missing some Vitamins and Minerals you can use supplements. What I would watch out for is that if your dog is throwing up each time after eating grass, then have a look at his vomit what comes out with it. Please see then your veterinarian.
Why does my dog eat grass then throw up?
Bring your dog to a veterinarian if your dog is throwing up to many times when eating grass. Sometimes he might have some parasites and he is trying to get rid of this parasites by throwing up. It is always good to keep an eye on youâre the dog when eating grass, you might also check which grass your dog prefers or which grass makes him vomit. As different grass has a different effect on dogs. No, I am not kidding, I can see my dogs each of them choosing different grass varieties. My German Shepard, for example, chooses the soft leave grass like the dandelion. My other Labrador loves the cat bamboo I bought for my cats. When dogs vomit constantly each time they eat grass you should have a checkup with your dog at your veterinarian. Only your veterinarian can check and knows if your dog might have a gastrointestinal disease that will be done through a physical exam of your dog. He will properly also takes blood to check his blood count. Blood counts will tell if your dog has inflammation or indicates a blood loss into the GI tract. For the chemistry panel, it will assess the health checks, Â the body stems that include pancreas and liver. Liver and pancreas are associated with the gastrointestinal tract. Save money with your vet bills and vet medication. Check it out how you can save a lot of $$$$ Â Click on the picture below.Â
In case there is something wrong with your dog, proper treatment can be done and if nothing is wrong then your dog is just doing what a dogs instinct is telling him to do.
Is there any health risk for my dog eating grass.
When dogs eat grass to make sure they are in a place they do not use pesticide. As pesticide on grass can actually poison your dog. If you can and have the place for it you might want to plant a small tray of grass just for your dog or start a small herbal garden. This might be a great idea for people who have pets in apartments. On the other hand, it will give your dog an alternative to eating outdoor grass and landscaping as you never know how it has been treated. Indigestion of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and or chemicals can be devastating and harmful for your dog. I go with my dogs always to places I know there will be no pesticides or any other harmful substances used. The same goes when you fertilize your grass in the springtime, make sure you use organic fertilizer and not chemical one that can poison pets.
If you should allow your Dog eating grass that is up to you. There is nothing wrong with a dog eating grass. In many ways when dogs eat grass, this is normal and you donât need to be alarmed. Unless you see a rapid increase like your dog is eating grass frantically and you notice a change in your dog's behaviour. When you have the feeling your dog is eating more grass than before. See your Veterinarian better safe than sorry. It is also confirmed by most experts that when dog eat grass it does not poses any risk to the dog. Be cautious that when your dog eats grass the grass is clean and no one has used chemical substances of any kind. There is grass for dogs available. If you live in an apartment or have no outside space that is a good solution. If you cannot find it, just plant some grass in a bigger bucket on your balcony. When you have a puppy watch out how much grass it takes in as too much grass and leaves can cause blockages and gastritis. Especially a teething puppy tends to chew more. It is like a baby. My dogs and cats have their own area in our home garden with herbs and different kind of grass varieties. Our pets have a well-balanced diet but they still munch away on different types of grass. Our cats have the cat bamboo and our dogs love them too. Even the cat grass our dogs love and munch away. Our cats are not so happy about it but lucky we have a big garden. Is your dog eating grass and how comfortable are you with that? Please share your experience and your tricks on how do you grow the grass for your dog living in an apartment. Running was equal parts challenge and super fun (ok, maybe not equal since the challenge was part of the fun).
Day 12 - Quartzsite (and a surprise trip)
Fun - sunny, brilliant blue sky, the warmest morning yet (the first w/capris and no gloves) and the challenges.
Challenges - Bill was worried about Maddie hurting her feet on the rocky and very uneven desert ground. She, of course, was fine while I stumbled, and even looking down, turned my ankle numerous times. He also said he hoped we'd be back by lunch. I'd already thought about what to do to find our way back - it's not like there are trails, just desert and cactus and Desert Willow trees and Creosote bushes and sand and rocks and mountains.
So off we went with me trying desperately to run straight toward the rising sun and a mountain peak and remember a cactus as a landmark. This lasted about 1/4 km. Here's the problem - it takes small steps to the left and then the right and then to the left and then to the right to get around a cactus, a tree, a super big section of large, hard to run on rocks. Then trying to get back to the straight line to the mountain peak was impossible as in those minutes the sun had moved just enough that it illuminated that peak differently and now I didn't know which one it was. In the meantime I was looking down most of the time so as to not have to crawl back with a sprained ankle and I saw Quartz everywhere (this should not have been such a surprise - we were, after all, in Quartzsite!). We eventually got to a road and found a whole new section of mass motorhomes and an easier run.Â
The return trip was much better terrain (but you can see the problem - yes? - this means I wasn't going back the way we came). The end result: we overshot our motorhome by maybe 1/3 km, knew we were too far and did find it. I actually consider this to be pretty good given the circumstances.
After the run we continued our usual - me answering emails, showering, dressing, making eggs, sausage, toast, fruit and cappuccino, eating, looking at a map for the next adventurous place. Every other say of years if our Winter trip Maddie hangs outside. It's hard to get her to stay in the motorhome. So when she asked to come in I was surprised but was busy so didn't think anything. At some point she went it and every time we looked she was sleeping or laying down but staring.
When it was time to leave for water, dump station and laundry I called Maddie in and she didn't move. I called again and she got up weirdly and then walked with a weird gate. Bill said that her feet were hurting from the rock run. She came in she just didn't look right and her butt was wet. I made her go out and run so I could be sure she was alright. It seemed like normal. Then the weird gate again. Then in the motorhome she was having trouble sitting without wobbling. We left for the 10 min drive on bumpy desert ground (which she hates). She kept leaning heavily on me and her eyes were barely open. I made her get up and move to "her" couch just so I could see if she could. She was a little slow but wouldn't stay once I left and then I saw that the cover we have on "her" couch was wet. She was incontinent.
The place was packed, plus 3 people in line. Maddie kept slumping, Bill held her up, she sat in a pool of pee that we kept cleaning up and more kept coming. And more people kept coming. Everyone was so concerned about her and us and were trying to be encouraging.
By this time we were in the mass of humanity and bumper to bumper cars and motorhomes known as the Quartzsite Swap Meet. We were both getting concerned that something was really wrong with her - snake bit? (incontinent didn't fit bit muscle weakness and lethargy did), something she ate, something poisonius? (remember all the poop and garbage we cleaned up - but she ate breakfast no problem). She seemed to be getting worse by the minute so we called the only vet for miles (30 to be exact) and after what was an eternity of traffic we were finally on our way 30 miles to Blythe, CA. Talking to Maddie the whole way, making her pick her head up, petting, praying, Bill driving really fast we finally arrived. I was trying to be positive but I wasn't sure she was going to be breathing by the time we got there.
Finally 30 min later they fit us in. Pee in the exam room (not squatting, just pee trickling out constantly). Re-explaining her symptoms. The vet listened to her heart and said she knew what it was. We were incredulous when she told us. I was in such a hurry I hadn't done my usual look up the symptoms and avoid the vet. And had I I'd never, ever have come up with this. Marijuana Toxicisty. Our Maddie was high, at a toxic level. The vet said they'd prevent the rest of it being absorbed with charcoal and flush it out quicker with iv fluids.
A couple hours later -- out came running, wiggly, smiling dog still incontinent and now charcoal all over her mouth but HAPPY and happy, happy, happy us!
We went to bed so very thankful that we were on the edge of a very narrow road and a river because we were with a very hairy red dog with a too small diaper taped on with packing tape.
We didn't want to go all the way back to Quartzsite in case we needed to go back to the vet in the middle of the night. We read about a BLM area on the CO River 10 minutes away and by this time it was 8:30 pm. Probably the worst place yet to arrive in the dark. Long, narrow, wash board, rocky (so10 mi/hr) road that we occasional saw water on our left but no idea what was between us and the water or what was on the left except what our headlights showed, which was tall being grass eight up to the road). The GPS showed water on both sides of the road (and our motorhome several times driving in the water - making it hard to believe the safety of the times it showed us on land). The road was slightly wider than one car, except where it was narrower and every so often the occasional opening in the tall grass (a couple bigger ones had 3 or more motorhomes and some smaller with one. Every possible place had someone or several someone's in them. After 15 min or so we were wondering what we'd do whenever the road ended and then saw a pretty small place where we'd could get off the road, just barely, and be right up against the grasses (likely right on the edge of the river bank). The spot had us pitched so far back that the little bit of water we had left didn't reach the pump (our plan for the day had been water, dump and laundry - but as you know our day didn't go as planned). Â
PetFirst Insurance Review
There are several excellent pet insurance companies to choose from its hard to know which insurance company is the best.
Unfortunately, there isnât one plan that works for everyone, but the good news is, there are enough choices to find the one that is right for you and your dog.
Though pet insurance is optional, it is something I encourage all dog parents to consider.
Pet insurance can mean the difference between life and death for your beloved canine.
No one knows what the future will bring, and a loss of job combined with a significant injury or illness may cause you to have to make a heartbreaking decision.
But with pet insurance, you will have the peace of mind knowing that additional financial resources are accessible to you in the event of unforeseen accidents or illness, resulting in high vet bills.
In this PetFirst insurance review, I will cover:
The history of the company
The pros and cons of choosing PetFirst as your dogâs pet insurance provider
What is and isnât covered by PetFirst
Who would benefit from signing up with a PetFirst plan
How much the average PetFirst policy costs
Alternative options to PetFirst
About PetFirst Pet Insurance
PetFirst, founded in 2004, was recently acquired by MetLife but retained its original name.
PetFirst is a community-conscious company that strives to give back through adoption events and by partnering with shelters nationwide.
Although PetFirst is part of Metlife[1], they are a smaller company with only 54 employees.
But donât let their size fool you. Their estimated annual revenue is $71M, which is significantly higher than many of their competitors.
PetFirstâs goal is âto take the worry out of covering the cost of unexpected visits to the vet with your furry family members.â
They also pride themselves on providing a hassle-free service, through âstraight forwardâ coverage at an affordable price.
Pros
You are reimbursed on what you paid, not the average cost of what they think you should pay
PetFirst follows up with your vet if they need additional information to reimburse you for a claim
No lifetime or incident limit for reimbursement
Customizable plans
Hip dysplasia is covered after the 14 day wait period
â
Cons
No easy app for submitting a form
Reimbursements are sent by check, and there is no direct deposit option
Undesirable customer reviews
Things to Consider When Buying Pet Insurance
Pet insurance is the perfect answer when needing to offset high vet expenses.
Most pet insurance policies are intended to assist you financially when the unforeseen happens, such as accidents or sickness.
However, some pet insurance companies offer an add on option to aid in covering expenses associated with wellness and preventative care.
Pet insurance is best purchased when dogs are younger and healthy.
When dogs get older and begin having medical issues, thatâs when pet insurance is not always affordable or a wise investment.
Most often, pet insurance policies do not cover pre-existing conditions.
And like with all insurance, regardless of if itâs for humans or dogs, there are some policy details which sometimes get overlooked.
However, it is vital to read the fine print, so there are no surprises when you go to submit a claim.
Plus, there are several considerations to take into account, the foremost of which are:
Your dogâs age
Your dogâs breed
Pre-existing issues your dog may have
Wait time for coverage
Monthly cost and additional fees
Customer reviews
Reimbursement amounts and maximum payout coverage
Ease of submitting claims
Veterinary clinic networks
Features and Benefits of PetFirst Pet Insurance
Here are some key benefits I found when putting together my PetFirst pet insurance review.
And though they are similar to other pet insurance companies, there are a few noteworthy features.
PetFirst Pet Insurance Plan Options
PetFirst offers three primary plans, and if they are not what you are looking for, there is an option to customize your deductible and reimbursement amount.
The three primary plans are:
Cost Conscious
Annual Benefit: $2,000
Deductible: $250
Reimbursement: 80%
Eligible Ages: All
Most Popular
Annual Benefit: $5000
Deductible: $250
Reimbursement: 80%
Eligible Ages: All
Additional Coverage
Annual Benefit: $10,000
Deductible: $250
Reimbursement: 80%
Eligible Ages: All
Routine Care Coverage
PetFirst offers a routine care coverage plan, which provides financial help with wellness care.
The Routine Care Coverage Plan covers:
Routine examinations like annual vet exams and routine tests
VaccinesÂ
Teeth cleaning
MicrochippingÂ
Preventive treatment for ticks, fleas, and heartworm
Spay and neuter operations
Behavior trainingÂ
Five routine care plans are available, ranging in coverage from $125-$575.
The policies cover the same services, but coverage is higher with the more expensive programs.
Breed Coverage
All breeds are covered, but they do factor into the cost of your premium.
Also, PetFirst includes hereditary and congenital conditions in their policies.
Age Coverage
All ages are covered under PetFirst, though, like breed, your dogâs age will impact the cost of the plan.
Read Also: Is Pet Insurance Worth It?
14-Day Money-Back Guarantee
If you change your mind within the first 14 days of signing up and you havenât submitted claims, regardless if they were approved or denied, then you can request a full refund.
A 30-day trial offer may also be available, especially through some shelters.
Exam Records Requirements
Many pet insurance plans require you to send in medical records or have an exam done at the ownerâs expense.
At PetFirst, they do request 12-months of vet records, but only at the time you submit your first claim.
By only requiring medical records after enrollment, it ensures that pet parents know that they will not be rejected or have prices change due to their petâs medical history.
Additionally, PetFirst does not require annual exams or preventatives to retain coverage.
However, they encourage dog owners to follow the care of their vet; you never have to worry about getting dropped if you miss your annual exam.
Waiting Periods
Almost all pet insurance companies have a waiting period before your pet insurance plan becomes active, and PetFirst is no different.
Here is their waiting period schedule:
Accidents â 25 hours
Illness â 14 days
Cruciate ligaments and disc disease â 6 months
What Does PetFirst Cover?
Accidents
Illnesses including hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions
Hospitalizations
Surgeries
Diagnostic tests
Exam fees
X-rays
Ultrasounds
Medications
Holistic care & alternative therapies
Emergency care
After the six month waiting period, PetFirst will also cover:
Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)
Anterior Cruciate Ligaments
Medial Cruciate Injury
Posterior Cruciate Ligaments
Cranial Cruciate Ligaments
What PetFirst Wonât Cover
Knowing what isnât covered is equally as crucial to what is, no one wants to be surprised that insurance wonât help cover a hefty vet bill.
Pre-existing conditions[2]
Elective procedures like ear cropping
Expressing or removal of the anal glands or anal sacculitis
Breeding or medical conditions that are the result of breeding
Pet food including special or prescription diets
Vitamins and mineral supplements
Grooming costs including medicated baths
Parasite prevention or treatment
Illness or injury caused by racing, coursing, commercial guarding, or organized dogfighting
Routine wellness and preventative careÂ
Organ transplants
How Much Does PetFirst Cost?
PetFirst accepts dogs of all ages and all breeds, but the cost of your premium is impacted by your location and the dogâs age and breed.
Below are premiums based on a Twin Cities suburb in Minnesota.
However, when I put a zip code in for Manhattan, New York, for a 10 year old Brittany, the costs were substantially higher.
So, if you request a free quote and the numbers are different even though you have a dog with the same age and breed as listed below, it is because of your location.
 Low Most PopularHigh Deductible OptionGoldendoodle â Under 1 YO.$20.28$28.61$17.67Brittany â Under 1 YO. $19.03$26.75$16.60German Shepherd â Under 1 YO.$21.60$30.57$18.79Goldendoodle â 5 YO.$27.88$39.88$24.12Brittany â 5YO. $26.08$37.20$22.59German Shepherd â 5 YO.$29.79$42.70$25.74Goldendoodle â 10 YO.$61.46$89.64$52.62Brittany â 10 YO. $57.22$83.35$49.02German Shepherd â 10 YO.$65.93$96.26$56.41
How it Works
PetFirst prides itself on offering a hassle-free service, so when you are ready to submit a claim, they have made it as easy as 1-2-3.
Take your dog to a licensed vet clinic or hospital of your choice, including emergency and specialty centers.
File your claim by filling out a claim form and sending it along with the invoice and records from the appointment via email, online, fax, or mail.
Get reimbursed â most claims are processed in under two weeks, once approved PetFirst will mail you a check
Best of all, if PetFirst needs more information about the claim, they will follow up with the vet.
I would love that if the company I worked with did that; instead, I have to follow up with every claim to see if additional information is required.
What Others Are Saying
I searched the internet to see what people were saying about PetFirst, and since theyâve been around for over 15 years, I knew I would be able to find some customer opinions.
I was disappointed to see the number of unfavorable responses on third party sites:
Trust Pilot
1.5 stars from 207 reviews.
The most recent reviews were all unfavorable for a variety of reasons, and unfortunately, PetFirst stopped replying to complaints.
Better Business Bureau
A+ from BBB but 1 star from 13 reviews.
There have been 33 complaints. PetFirst has been answering these[3].
Regrettably, few pet insurance companies receive glowing reviews from the public.
However, I feel that many of the complaints could be avoided had the customer understood the policy better, especially the waiting period.
I found numerous complaints from those who accepted a 30-day trial offer, only to be upset that illnesses were not covered immediately due to the waiting period.
I can not emphasize enough how important it is for consumers that we fully familiarize ourselves with the policy we choose.
Alternatives
Eusoh
Eusoh is like no other pet insurance company on the market.
It sets itself apart by being the only cost-share community pet insurance company available.
In fact, they donât even consider themselves an insurance company and instead view themselves as a community health sharing program.
The founder, Dr. Allen Kamrava, goal is to team pet parents up to help support one another to cover unforeseen vet bills.
Because Eusoh is a cost-share program, monthly fees fluctuate based on how much was paid out in reimbursements the previous month.
The monthly payments are between $17-$65/ month; but, the average premium per month is $35.
Unlike PetFirst, Eusoh only covers accidents, illnesses, and injuries and does not offer wellness or preventative care options.
Also, unlike PetFirst, Eusoh only has one plan available.
Eusohâs community policy has a maximum deductible amount of $250 per year.
And they cover up to 80% of the national average of the approved charges on the vet bill.
Basing reimbursement on a national level is another variation between the two companies since PetFirst covers based on the bill and not on an average.
If you would like to learn more about Eusohâs cost-share plan, click here for more information.
PetPlan
PetPlan and PetFirst are both traditional pet insurance companies with similar pet plans.
The biggest differences between PetPlan and PetFirst are:
Pet Plan is strictly accidents and illness and does not offer a wellness plan like PetFirst.
Medical records requirement â PetFirst requires 12 months at the time of the submission of the first claim, and Pet Plan requires 24 months of medical records at the time of enrollment
15 day waiting period for illnesses and accidents versus PetFirstâs 14 days for illness and 25 hours for accidents
Initial vet visit requirement with Pet Plan must be completed within six months before enrollment whereas there is no initial vet visit requirement with PetFirst
If you are looking for a pet insurance policy that offers excellent accident and illness coverage, click here to get signed up.Â
For a more detailed review, read our full Petplan Review!
Embrace
Embrace is very similar to PetFirst, and they both offer flexible accident and illness plans, in addition to a wellness plan add on option.
However, there are differences like:
Medical Records Requirements â Embrace requires medical records are sent in to be eligible for the signup, and PetFirst does not request records until you submit a claim.
Waiting Periods â Embrace has a 2 day waiting period for accidents, and PetFirst has a 25 hour waiting period
Initial Vet Visit Requirement â Embrace requires the visit be done within the first 12 months, and PetFirst does not have a requirement.
Enrollment Fee â Embrace has a $25 enrollment fee, but PetFirst has no additional fees
Reimbursement Limit â Embrace tops out at $30,000, and PetFirstâs maximum is $10,000
For a more detailed review, read our full Embrace Review!
Should You Get PetFirst?
There are situations you may want to consider PetFirst for pet insurance, and there are some scenarios that alternative choices may be a better option, for example:
Suppose you have a puppy and are looking for comprehensive accident and illness coverage.
PetFirst is an especially good company to consider if you have a purebred since they cover hereditary issues.
If you have an elderly dog and live in an area that has a higher cost of living, you may want to consider an alternative option to pet insurance.
Premiums are exceptionally high for senior dogs, principally purebred dogs, in some regions of the country.
If you are looking for a full-coverage plan, including wellness and preventative care, PetFirst might be the right choice for you and your dog.
Conclusion
I have my hesitations about PetFirst, only because of the poor customer reviews.
However, the pet insurance company I am with has not always had the best customer ratings either.
Fortunately, I have not had any of the issues mentioned in the complaints, and I have been with them for 15 years.
So, I would take the complaints under consideration, but they would not be my determining factor.
I think that PetFirst has some great plans, and I am especially happy that hip dysplasia is not under the six month waiting period. This would be good for a German Shepherd.
Additionally, I like that they base reimbursement on your invoice and not on a national or even local average.
100 Topic Challenge- Introduction
A/n: So, I took longer to get this done than Iâd have liked, but here is topic one! The introduction! I kinda used it to at least somewhat introduce my BNHA OC that I will probably be using for a lot of these. Will they all be in the same story? Be interconnected? I have no idea. I may also stray from using her at all in some of them as well. But this kind of gives you some idea of her background, though not nearly all of it, and what she does for a living(though I didnât go into excruciating detail and focused on one part). As I said, itâs just an introduction, which is a fairly difficult topic for me to sort out exactly how to do. Last time I did something like this, I really did much better.
Topic # 1 - Introduction
âHello, welcome to the Esuha Pet Medical Center,â the receptionist said as someone walked into the clinic.
The person walked up to the counter and began talking with them. Through listening in, I learned that they had just been at a scene of a villain attack and had found the dog they carried in their arms nearby injured. As they described the dogâs injuries, I listened as well as inspected the dog from a distance. The poor pup did have a long gash that led from its shoulder to about mid-back. Itâs ears were also damaged and the man reported that its hind leg seemed to be messed up as well.
When I got the signal from the vet, who was also listening inâit was an abnormally slow day today so the two of us werenât really busy at the moment besides checking stock and keeping track of how everything is goingâI approached the man with the puppy.
âHello,â I said in greeting. âIâm Icilius, Kesshou, Iâll be your assistant today. If you come right this way, weâll get your pup seen to.â
âIcilius?â The man looked suspicious.
âDonât let the name fool you, sir,â the receptionist spoke up. âSheâs good at her job and trustworthy. Otherwise she wouldnât be here.â
âIâll come, but if anything happens to this pup, Iâm coming after you,â the man warned.
My ears twitched. âI understand, sir,â I said, my smile becoming more forced now. I was no stranger to people hearing my family name and immediately distrusting me. My family was practically the mafia of Esuha and always seemed to get away with their crap. It was something I hoped changed some day.
I lead the man to an open treatment room, where the vet had already sent a tech to get things prepared. We had the man lay the pup on a table and as the tech began asking the owner questions to fill in as much of the gaps as possible, I began doing the TPR. I frowned at the results as I got them, not liking how low the heart rate was, nor how still the pup was being as I did it. When the vet came in, he directed us to suture the wounds and get an IVC in her since the vetâs exam revealed she was really dehydrated. The tech worked on suturing while I got the IVC in her.
âIâm really concerned about the fact I can do this without someone restraining her for me,â I muttered where only the vet and tech could hear. âHer heart rate is also really low. Iâm willing to bet blood work will show anemia.â
The vet nodded. âDonât take a lot,â he said. âItâs clear sheâs lost blood. We should prepare an infusion. Her leg is messed up, so weâll need x-rays as well. Weâll get a couple angles on that.â
The tech and I nodded. We continued working silently, getting the pup set up for what was likely going to be a long stay in the clinic. We got bloodâa minimal amount needed just to check levels for now. We discovered that she was indeed anemic, as well as low on platelets and white blood cells. This meant that if her leg required surgery that it couldnât be done immediately. The vet prescribed a few different meds, as well as a blood transfusion and IV fluids. After getting x-rays, the tech and I got her set up in a kennel with both those things set up and directions on her treatment plan written clear on the sheet while the vet spoke with the man.
We got the go-ahead from the man, who promised to pay the bills it created, to move forward with the overall treatment plan. Over the next few weeks, this puppy would receive enough blood transfusions to get her count back to normal, some antibiotics for infections, the wounds healed and, once her anemia was rectified she had surgery to fix her broken leg properly. She spent another several weeks recovering from that at the manâs home with check-ins every week, as the man had decided to adopt her.
On her final check-up, he brought her in while I was busy with a client with bunny that was being seen for an abscess on its cheek. The vet with him poked in to let me know as I was helping the vet I was currently helping take the bunny off anesthesia. I finished up with the bunny, giving it a couple more pets before leaving the vet to take the bunny back to the owner and explain the game plan for treatment.
Upon entering the room, I was greeted by a cheerful puppy with tons of energy and mobility.
âOh my goodness, youâre so happy today!â I smiled widely as Snow, what the man had decided to name her, greeted me with happy wiggles and a play bow, tail going a million miles per hour.
I gave her lots of pets and a couple treats, telling her how good sheâs been and how great her new daddy has been for her.
âAlright, Kessh,â the vet chuckled. âWe do still need to take her TPR and stuff. We waited for you, since youâve been my assistant for her this whole time.â He had a grin on his face.
I felt my cheeks warm. âRight, yes, sorry,â I said. âSeeing them at the end of their recovery just always makes me so happy.â
The man who had brought her initially and adopted her smiled. âYou are passionate about this,â he said. âI admit, I misjudged you at first. Iâm sorry.â
âDonât worry about it,â I assured the man as I walked Snow to the scale. âIâm used to it. Besides, what matters is that Snow here got all taken care of.â I gave her some ear scratches before writing down her weight.
After taking the TPR and asking the needed questions as the vet did the rest of the exam, we were finally able to give Snow a clean bill of health.â
âYou handled that guy a lot better than the last one,â the vet told me after we saw them off.
âHe wasnât as bad as the last guy,â I pointed out. âThere was no yelling involved this time. Or accusations. Just distrust, which changed in time. Actually this experience gave me a bit of my hope back I lost from the last guy.â
âGood,â the vet said. âIn time people will all see you differently from your family, youâll see. Then youâll accept that promotion, right?â
âWeâll see,â I rolled my eyes, giving him a crooked grin.
I was happy where I was. I didnât require having a higher position, though being a tech would be nice. I just wasnât ready for the tech position, not when I couldnât handle the naysayers as well as Iâd like. My goal wasnât to be a vet, though it wasnât entirely off the table to reach that point someday.
We have dog insurance on the brain!?
So our precious Pit Bull has gone to the vet more times than I can imagine, since we brought him home. I don't even get to visit my doctor as much! Recently, we've decided to look into pet insurance for him. We do live on somewhat of a tight budget, so anything crazy in numbers wouldn't work. We need affordable insurance, if it's possible. And, is there any insurance that deals with pre-existing issues? Any personal experiences/advise would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!!!""
Can someone have life insurance on me without my consent?
My inlaws are crazy. No not like wacky like mean, vindictive, you wouldn't believe it crazy. My husband purchased a sport car about 4 years ago, evidentially my inlaws started a life insurance / disability policy on him. The bill for some reason gets mailed to us, but they pay it. When asked about it they said they got it incase my husband killed himself in his car. Can you take out a policy on an adult, over 18 years of age, without consent? What is this Disability income on the bill that is separate from the Level Term life??? They are not in poor financial shape, his father is a doctor and they have an oceanfront home. So I have bought a car before I have passed so that I can go out practising with my mum. Can my car insurance rate go UP if they pay for the medical bills of the other person in the car accident?
Ok so I was involved in a car accident November 10,12, I was at fault because I hit the car in the back, the guy just literally stopped and obviously even if you are right about saying that the other driver stopped too fast for you to stop,when you hit a car in the back (most of the time) you are at fault of the accident.Either way, my insurance paid for his damage ($2,000 worth) and I took my ticket to court,there I only paid for court fees but no points. Today, June 02,13 (almost 7 months after the accident) I get a letter from a lawyer( lawyer of the guy I hit in the previous accident) saying he is asking for a $10,000 on medical expenses,it says I should send the letter to my insurance company as soon as possible,which I will do tomorrow but my thing is, I don't want my insurance rate to increase, it already increased after the accident (was $130, now $170) so I'm just asking, will the insurance company approve paying for his medical expenses even if he is self-employed as a driver of big trucks (I guess he also lift heavy furniture in order to work) and has diabetes ( he was ketotic at the time of the accident,the guy is in his 60s)?? And if the insurance approves paying ( guessing he has all the medical papers in order) will my rate increase too? Again?? I have full cover in my car, and it also includes medical bills. I had to pay $1000 of deductible in order to fix my and his car so pretty much I don't want to loose more money is just horrible I am 21,full time student with full time job! Yes,is possible to do both things but honestly I don't think this is fair anymore, the guy wanted to leave at first and not only that he is sick (diabetes) and he was very rude at first but then the police ask him if he was ok and he said yes so I don't understan this... :(. Thank you!""
Company Car - Insurance - Accident.?
Well, driving home last night from a club with my friends. Almost finished dropping my friends off we go through a puddle, me not knowing how high it really is so I assumed it was only little. Coming out of the puddle, the water was coming up-to the car bonnet (dashboard). So the engine and power, all cut out.. So we have to get out, and push the car to a higher ground. Obviously, the engine has flooded and after a few attempts of jump starting it, didn't work. So I had to ring the break down service to come pick us up. Term Life Insurance Ownership?
My wife and I are in our 40's and 50's. We have created A/B trusts and transferred our assets to them, and expect to have estates that will benefit from the estate tax saving these trusts afford. We recently both purchased $1M 10-year renewable term life insurance policies that we expect to keep for 10 years. We chose not to use life insurance trusts because the purpose of the policies is to replace the lost income of the deceased spouse if one of us dies relatively soon, not to increase our final estate, and the trusts are somewhat costly. We each specified our own trusts as the beneficiaries, because we want the disposition of assets specified there to be used for this money. The trusts provide for the income, and principle if needed, to be paid to the spouse, and for the remainder to be paid to our child at the remaining spouses death. The question of ownership of the policies is less clear. My lawyer says that it doesn't make much difference who owns them, because the value (estate) taxed is only one year's premium, not the $1M. My accountant says that the $1M is taxed, and that each policy should be owned by the other spouse to avoid tax on that amount. A friend said that there's no way to avoid or significantly decrease the tax, so just leave the ownership as is (each spouse owns their own policy). A further fly in the ointment is that the insurance company (Massachusetts SBLI) makes some forms of trust ownership more difficult and costly. I'm confused. What ownership is the best? What is the benefit of that choice? Thanks for your time.""
25 Ways to Save Money Everyday (Part 4)
Welcome to the fourth installment of the "25 Ways to Save Money Everyday" series!
In case you missed them, part 1, part 2, and part 3 can be found here.
1. Make your own cleaning supplies
Baking soda and vinegar can clean just about anything! This can be as simple as using vinegar or using essential oils. It both benefits your wallet and your health!
2. Make your own gifts
You don't even have to be "crafty" to make your own gifts, especially if you have kids! Grandparents generally LOVE to get homemade gifts from their grandkids. It can be as simple as a picture of the kids and their handprints in a frame. I did this one year with my two younger kids and my parents and grandparents LOVED it! This doesn't apply to just Christmas either. Think Father's Day, Mother's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving!
3. Make simple and cheap meals
When you are meal planning, take into account your budget. If you are running low on your grocery budget, make sure you have a couple cheap and easy go-to meals. There are a couple go-to meals that we have in our meal planning rotation that are cheap and feed everyone. Mac and cheese and hot dogs anyone?
4. Patch up your own jeans
My kids and my husband go through jeans like crazy! I have learned a thing or two about patching up jeans over the years. Why go out and buy a new pair if you can fix the ones you already have...if they are fixable that is. My husband always seems to rip his in the worst spots that make it next to impossible to repair.
5. Make shorts out of old jeans
When the jeans start to get too holey, or too short but fit around the waist, make them into shorts! I did this with my oldest daughter a lot, her waist never seemed to get bigger, her legs would just get longer! This doesn't just apply to girls either, this also works well for boys jeans too.
6. Use old shirts as rags
I don't know about you, but I have a TON of old t-shirts lying around. They are either ripped, too small or just never get worn. If you have some old t-shirts that aren't really wearable anymore, turn them into rags-cleaning rags, burp rags, rags for staining furniture, whatever kind of rags you might need!
7. Make your own bags
If you are the crafty type, you can get really creative with this one! I have seen some pretty cool upcycled bags on Pinterest! Bags made from old t-shirts, or from plastic bags, and even old food bags-time to get creative!
8. Balance your checkbook
Ok, this is probably the least fun topic in this list...but important! Make sure you are keeping up with your checkbook or online checking account so you don't write a check that you forget about and end up in the red. I try to avoid writing checks at all costs only because I hate having to balance my checkbook and wait for checks to clear. But, if I do write a check for something, I make sure I keep track of it!
9. Avoid using the central air or air conditioning units
I'll be honest, this one is hard for us! LOL In the summer we like to keep it really cool in the house. If you can open some windows and use some fans that will help to save on your electric bill. My husband likes to crank the A/C in the summer and it can really show in our electric bill đ.
11. Make your own yogurt
I promise this is not as scary as it sounds! One of my kid's go to snacks or breakfasts is yogurt and granola. But when you are buying that stuff from the store is can easily add up quickly! I am amazed at how much those "fancy" yogurts cost, like $2 for 4 ounces! I can make my own at home-2 quarts (that's 64 ounces) for about the same price! It's not complicated either. It's a matter of heating and cooling the milk to certain temps, adding a "starter" and keeping it warm for about 24 hours...voila...homemade yogurt!
12. Shop at the dollar store
I used to hate going to the dollar store, honestly, it made me feel "poor". But I quickly learned it is super frugal! You might be amazed as to what you can find at the dollar store-you know where EVERYTHING is only $1! In fact our last trip there we picked up: snacks for my husband at work, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, clipboards to make chore charts, and snacks and soda for an upcoming birthday party and spent less than $20! Don't discount your local dollar stores people, they are full of frugal surprises!
13. Shop at multiple grocery stores
Depending on what is on the meal plan, we go grocery shopping every week or every other week. The only downfall with our method of grocery shopping is I feel like it can take forever! When we do our grocery shopping we tend to hit 3-4 different stores. Each local grocery store has different deals and store coupons. Our last grocery trip-for one week of groceries which included breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for a whole week for a family of 7 was less than $200!Â
14. Don't be afraid to ask for help
I'm stubborn...big surprise.đ I generally don't like to ask for help, HOWEVER, when you put it out there that you are looking for something you might be surprised at the deals you can get! For example, I was talking to a close friend of mine and mentioned that I needed a chest freezer, and she gave me one that she just had sitting around...for FREE! I looked at buying one and it would have cost around $200! You can also post in local buy/sell/trade groups that you are "ISO" or "in search of" to try and find good deals! Sometimes people are just looking to get rid of things and you can get amazing deals of even stuff for free. Just don't be that annoying person that is obviously asking for handouts.
15. Repurpose leftovers
When you are meal planning use what would be just plain leftovers for a new meal. For example this past week I made refried beans as a side, we had a lot left over, so I made bean and cheese freezer burritos for the kids for a quick meal. There are plenty of ways to repurpose leftovers, plus it's fun to get creative in the kitchen!
16. Use Swagbucks for your search engine
Who doesn't love a little extra money in their pocket? Using SwagBucks as your search engine and to complete other various tasks on earn you real money! 2500 Swagbucks equals a $25 Paypal payout! Not too shabby for doing things you already do online. And of course invite your friends and earn even more!
17. Invest small amounts
You don't need thousands of dollars to start investing. A few cents here and a couple dollars there might not seem like a lot, but it can really add up! Have you heard of micro-investing?  It is easy to start investing with your spare change with several apps on the market that do all the hard work for you, you don't have to worry about all that investing mumbo-jumbo!
18. Buy cheap dog food
I know some of you dog lovers out there are gasping at this right now! "But I love my dog(s)", yeah so do it, but they aren't helping me around the house to save money now, are they?! With 5 kids and 3 dogs (one of them is a Mastiff!) I try to save on food costs wherever I can, and that includes the dogs! Luckily none of my dogs need to be on any special diet and their cheap food seems to be just as good to them as the expensive stuff! a 52-pound bag of dog food cost me $18.99 and that lasts at least a week, not too bad in my book!
19. Join Honey!Â
I just recently discovered this money-saving chrome extension, and I LOVE it! When you are shopping online it works in the background to find you money saving coupons. What's even better than saving money while you shop? Making money while you shop! You can combine Honey and Ebates while shopping online! **MIND BLOWN**
20. Use Ibotta while shopping
Ibotta is another one of those stupid simple apps to use to save /make you some extra cash! All you have to do is link you store card to the app, go shopping, take a picture of your receipt, and get cash back! Easy peasy! Want to know more, check it out here!
21. Find wellness clinics for your pets
Here's another one for the pet lovers! I'm not sure if this is a thing in other states, but in Wisconsin, there is a "wellness clinic" in the Madison area that offers vet services at very affordable prices. This works especially well if you only need a rabies shot for example and not a full exam. Also, check to see if there are vet schools in your area that might offer discounted services from students.
22. Go to the local cosmetology school
Cosmetology students need live heads to work on also! You could get your nails done, hair cut and colored, spa treatments all for steeply discounted prices! But just beware that they are still learning, so that cut and color you wanted might turn out EXACTLY like the picture.
23. Groupon!Â
I f...ing LOVE Groupon! I didn't even really know what it was till fairly recently. I had heard about it but never really had given it a second thought. I am so glad that I looked into it more. Groupon is great for so many things-spas, going out to eat, singing lessons, you name it! I also love that they have physical products and online courses! You never quite know what you will find on there! You can even combine Groupon and SwagBucks to earn cash back ON TOP of your savings!
24. Build up your emergency fund
This is important for so many reasons and can save you money in the long run! If you have an emergency fund saved up-whether it's $1,000 or $5,000, it will help you to avoid using credit cards in case of an emergency-like a busted water heater.
25. Never give up!
This is probably the most important of all the tips! It can be difficult to stick with money saving tips and tricks when it feels life is against you! I can't tell you how many times we thought we were fine...then...BOOM! Something horrible and random happens! An account get hacked and we are out $900 The engine in the car goes out A tire falls off the truck Someone gets sicks and needs to be hospitalized for a few days It can be very easy to just say F-IT and give up and continue living in your old ways. But your old ways are not going to get you out of debt, or fix your money problems! Just remember to take it one day at a time and keep your head up!
Did I miss anything? What are some creative ways that you save or make a few extra bucks?
The Entire History of Tess
In September of 1997 my brotherâs English teacher, Mrs. Blackmore, told her class that she had found two kittens on the side of the road by our school. She would keep one but the other needed a home. Jim decided that he wanted a kitten and told our parents about this kitten that was spayed, declawed and had all her shots already. Despite already having two dogs my parents agreed to add a cat to our family. One day after school Jim, my dad and I all piled into my dadâs ford ranger and went to Mrs. Blackmoreâs house. My dad soon found out that this kitten he had told his kids they could have was not spayed or vaccinated. She also still had claws and proceeded to demonstrate how sharp they were all over his arms. Still, my dad let us have her and brought home Tess that day. When Tess was young she was pretty shy and loved to find new and exciting places to hideâŠ. The top of a huge armoir, curled around the base of a big ficus tree, behind my dadâs hung up work clothes and in the sink or shower in an unused bathroom were some of her favorites. We went out of town once and the lady that came over to feed her didnât see her until the last day. Tess looking down at her from the armoir (probably with disdain) Tess escaped the house one time and worried the hell out of us until we realized she went under the house. Every other time she escaped she would do the same thing. She also decided that a big planter full of wood chips in the living room was a litter box and pooped in it for weeks until my mom figured out where the smell was. Tess was shy but she played with our dog, Jack, like he was another cat. Once we got Spike Tess became relegated to the upstairs because Spike wouldnât stop eating out of her litter box (also mom was still mad about the giant planter full of cat turds) I still feel bad that Tess lived only in the upstairs of my parentsâ house for so long but she did like being away from our four dogs. She liked looking out the windows and laying in the sun. She routinely drank out of the toilet even though she had a bowl of water available. Tess wasnât a fan of Scratchy when i got her in 2005 but they mostly got along. Sometimes I would find them on their window seat together or sleeping next to each other. Once Penny arrived the territorial rage peeing started and basically continued until we all moved out of my parentsâ house and in with Nick. I know Nick wasnât excited about living with three cats but I quickly converted him. Tess finally got to go outside at our new house. She spent lots of time eating grass or laying in the sun. The first winter we were there she refused to come inside even when it was cold so I had to make her a little house out of a patio table, cardboard, beach towels and a heating pad. Tess stuck mostly to the back bedroom with the cat door (especially after the arrival of Stephen) but she would venture out from time to time to sleep on clean laundry or come up on the couch and rub her face all over our faces. Sometimes she would burrow under the covers or tunnel under a folded blanket on the bed like a little cat fajita. When we moved to Decatur Tess almost immediately managed to get on top of an air duct in the basement. Tess for some reason became extremely affectionate when we moved. Mostly she fell in love with Nick and wanted to be on his lap all the time but she also liked to hang out with me after I worked out and bite my hair. She also started peeing on our couch. Often. We had a protocol where when covered it with pee pads and boxes so she couldnât get on it. In July 2016 I took her to the vet and was told she was in stage 2/3 of kidney disease. In about 2009 our old vet had said she was in the extremely early stages of kidney disease. Tess started eating prescription CKD food. In October of 2016 Tess couldnât walk straight one morning. We rushed her to the emergency vet and found out she had suffered what we and her vets assume was a stroke brought on from high blood pressure resulting from hyperthyroidism that resulted from CKD. We thought it was the end but Tess pulled through and for the first time in her life started eating wet food. We bought a rug for the hallway to help her get traction when she walked Then she declined again. She lost weight, wouldnât eat. Again, I thought this was the end. I took her to the vet and she almost immediately diagnosed her as being full of poop. Just really constipated from dehydration. She got subcutaneous fluids and miralax and bounced back. We started giving her fluids a few times a week. I spent hours researching CKD. Tess got a UTI. Took her to the vet and got antibiotics and she got better. She had another blood test and her kidney values were down so she got more fluids more often. We called her Toose or Toose Boose. So we called her fluids Toose juice. In early December she had another stroke. We took her to the vet and found out she was not able to process the amount of fluids her kidneys needed. She had fluid built up around her lungs and heart. The fluid around her lungs was drained. Again, we thought this was the end. We took her home and within days she was better. The vet was surprised and pleased at how well she was doing. We went to Charleston for Christmas and Tess started a bedtime ritual of rubbing her face all over Nickâs face, licking his lips, sniffing and licking his eyes and ears. By now she was taking felimazole for her thyroid, amlodipine for blood pressure, cerenia for nausea, mirtazipine for appetite stimulation, fluids every day, furosemide to keep fluid from building up, B12 subcutaneously every other week, and aluminum hydroxide phosphorous binder. I counted and recorded her resting respiration rate every day to monitor any fluid build up around her lungs. She was eating prescription food with the lowest phosphorus level possible. I downloaded an app to keep up with all her medications. Tess was doing well, all things considering. She would go to Nickâs room almost every night for his âeye examâ. If he tried to close his eyes she would sometimes try to pry them open with a paw. Afterwards she would come to my room to sleep on her heating pad. I put Pennyâs food container and a chair close to my bed so she would have something to jump up on. Nick used a small amp by his bed. We called them âToose Boostsâ A little over a week ago Tess started eating less. I took her in for her monthly blood, urine and blood pressure test and our vet recommended I give her the appetite stimulant every day instead of every other day. We had to come back in a few days to check her blood pressure because it was extremely high the first time. On second check it was fine. Her blood work and urine results were not good though. Her phosphorous levels and other kidney value had taken a nose dive. there was blood in her urine. She was now in stage 4 of CKD. We increased her phosphorous binder and fluids and decreased her furosemide and started antibiotics in case she had another UTI. Tessâs lack of appetite was due to nausea from too much stomach acid as a result of the high phosphorous level Tess went from eating a little bit less to eating only her food in the morning and a little at night to eating only food in the morning to eating only pill pockets. She didnât want to leave her heating pad and hang out with us. I did more reading about CKD and sent about 8 emails to our vet that she patiently answered I tried giving her different wet foods and sprinkling treats on her food and she would just smack her lips (a sign of nausea) and turn away. I had to start syringe feeding her because she wouldnât eat anything more than a few licks of food on her own. She was down from 5 lbs 2 oz to 4 lbs 8oz. I know because I bought a baby scale on eBay months ago to keep an eye on her weight I called the vet and got extra smelly urgent care prescription food. She ate a little on her own and then snubbed it. I syringe fed her four times a day. The phosphorus binder should have decreased her levels by now but it didnât. She gained a little weight but it was only because I was force feeding her Tess stopped eating pill pockets. I got Pepcid and ground it up with her other pills and mixed them with food in the syringe Tess would eat a little bit right after she got her anti nausea medicine and she would eat her dehydrated chicken treats sometimes. The appetite stimulant and anti-nausea and anti acid couldnt compete with her CKD though. This all happened in about a week. Tess didnât want to be held or snuggle with us. I would try to bring her into the living room to be with us and she would go back to her little corner in the bedroom the first chance she got She slept on her heating pad in a position that didnât even look comfortable and only got up to drink massive amounts of water and pee. She walked hunched up, her back legs barely supporting her and slipping as she walked. She had to stop and take a break in the hallway on her way from the water dish to her bed. Nick and I spent a lot of time laying on the floor telling her how much we loved her and what a good kitty she was. I rubbed my face on her face. Sometimes she would seem content I did a lot of reading about end stage renal disease and Tess basically fit the bill. I read about how she could pass away peacefully in her sleep. I read about she could drown from fluid build up, develop fatty liver from not enough food, she could have another stroke. She could die alone and in pain. Every time I checked on her I looked for the rise and fall of her breathing. Nick and I had the conversation we had been dreading. At almost 20 years old Tess no longer had any quality of life. She loved being with us and eating and she was no longer able to do that. Our vet told us that if she was going to improve she would have improved already. As poorly as she was doing now she would only continue to get worse. I could go on syringe feeding her and she could hang on for another week but that would be for us not her. We couldnât stand the thought of her being in pain or not being with her when she passed. Yesterday, April 1, Tess felt well enough to eat some treats and we took her outside and she lay in the sun and sniffed things and rubbed her cheeks on them. When I would try to pet her she moved away from me. At 1.30 we took her to the vetâs office. We kissed her little face and told her we loved her and she went to kitty heaven. It was awful. It was heartbreaking and terrible but she wasnât in any pain and she was with the two people that love her the most. She lived a long long life and we spoiled her. She lived like a little queen. We got home and I started to make us some scrambled eggs because we were both exhausted and hungry. I put a pat of butter in the hot pan and started whisking the eggs. When I turned back the pan the butter had melted in to the shape of a cat. Tess loved licking anything greasy off our plates so Nick and I took that as a sign from her. I meant to type out something brief for Facebook about how sweet and funny Tess was and how much I loved her but this turned into a complete history of Tess. I guess I needed to write it down to appreciate how much she had been through both in her entire life and medically in the last 6 months. I needed to remember how hard she fought and how much we did for her. I needed to reassure myself that we did the right thing letting her go before her health got really bad. Tess was tough, brave cat. Tess definitely frustrated me sometimes by peeing on everything i held dear but looking back that seems so unimportant. Every time someone new met Tess they thought she was kitten becuse of how small she was. Vet techs always fawned over her and gushed about how pretty she was. Her eyes were so big we joked she was half owl. Her breath was really astoundingly awful but Nick never stopped her from sniffing his entire face and head. The markings by her nose gave her almost constant bitchy resting face even though her personality was the opposite of that. We made up endless songs, nicknames and personal jokes about her. Toose. Toose Boose. Toosica Boosica. Tiny Toose. Tiny Tess. Tiny Tess Toast. Toose Boose drinks juice while riding a moose. It goes on and on. The voice we made her âspeakâ in sounds like a sassy Latina for some reason. We could not have loved her more and we miss her like crazy. Almost 20 years is a long time to have a pet but it still doesnât seem long enough.
Why is my dog eating grass? Is my dog seriously sick or is this normal?
What is the Number 1 Reason dogs eat grass?Â
Imagine you go for a walk with your dogs, and you stop at the park, you meet your friend and you have a chat with your friend and her dog. Last month I meet my friend at the dog park and I could see on her face that something is worrying her. I saw her several times talking to her dog Ceasar, bad dog Ceasar no grass eating. A bit surprised I look at her and ask her what is wrong with her dog eating grass. I can tell you if she could have shot me with her eyes she would have. Then she tells me that Ceasar her dog eating grass again. She asks me if I think that her dog is sick because of eating grass again. I answered her no nothing wrong with it. I laugh and talk to my friend that this is normal. But she thinks something is wrong with Ceasar. Sometimes dogs need that. I could not convince her, the next day she went to the veterinarian they tested Cesar and little Cesar is totally healthy. ( Ceasar is a Beatle)
Dogs, Nature and the Environment.
All my life I have had dogs and I have never seen any dog who is not eating grass. My grandmother used to say when dogs eat grass it means it is going to storm and rain. I found that always funny and could never understand what is the meaning of that saying. I believe that dogs eat grass because of the chlorophyll that is plenty in the grass. Chlorophyll absorbs all the toxins in the body. So I guess it is like a detox for them. Went on the World Wide Web and the only thing I could find is this about "dog eating grass." Farmers Almanac about a dog eating grass. It states when dogs eat grass you can expect a severe storm. It is the Almanac Farmers Calendar. It also says... Dogs will eat at some point some grass and some dog they love the greens in the diet. Maybe it is fibre they need or the taste but I guess some goes back into the evolution of a dog. I know a lot of experts will now shake their head, but I believe an animal follows an instinct and takes that what feels good. It is different for us human. Most of us have lost our gut feeling or so-called Instinct. Dogs have been domesticated in the early centuries. Well, nothing of this has something to do with this old wifeâs tale. But if any of you can shed light on it please feel free to let us know.
Is there any harm in my dog eating grass?
I honestly can tell you no. From my experience, all my dogs ate grass and most of our dogs lived a long life. Our Dachshund loved grass and he was 22 when he died. ( as long as it is not poison grass or it is sprayed with pesticides.) It is up to if you should let your dog eat grass.
Sometimes a multivitamin helps your dog if he is lacking in nutrition.Â
A Healthy Diet will not prevent your dog eating grass.
Dogs eat all meat, grass, fruits and veggies. According to History dogs eat their food whenever they could get it. In the wild dogs will eat grass on a regular base just to supplement their nutrition. It is also a fact that most grass types are not poison and a dog will not throw up if the dog is healthy. The funny thing is what I can see on my dogs they have different preferences on which grass they eat or prefer. I guess grass does taste good to dogs otherwise they would not eat it. Maybe it tastes like a fresh green salad to us it tastes to dogs.
Is it true that when a dog has an upset stomach, that is the "why" dogs eat grass?
Sometimes dogs eat grass when they have an upset stomach. It is a natural reaction or calls it instinct. It helps them obviously to vomit easier. Healthy dogs when they eat grass they do not throw up. Veterinarians believe that sometimes dogs eat grass when they want to induce vomiting.
There is nothing wrong with a healthy dog eating grass.
Even if your dog has a well-balanced diet, it will still go for the green grass on a regular basis. There is nothing wrong with it, as long there is no pesticide on the grass.
Dog Nutrition has nothing to do with it that dogs eat grass, this is my opinion, and I believe a dog knows for whatever reason it wants to eat grass it will eat grass. Dogs are so highly domesticated and pure breeds are so manipulated that some dogs don't even know they are a dog anymore. No one can say for sure why dogs eat grass but I believe it is a kind of nutrient they need and get from the grass, what we cannot provide in their daily nutrition. Can you answer the question why is it then that dog eat grass? I honestly have to say no. Dogs enjoy the taste of grass differently than other dogs. Some dogs take a mouthful and some just nibble on a few blades of grass. Keep in mind that dogs eat things that disgust the human owner. Like dirty socks and gristle from the trash can. Some dogs can eat constantly, and some dogs donât eat much. The evolution of dogs is as omnivores and scavengers. If you think about when a dog has to hunt in the wild most of the animals eat animals that plant eater like rabbits, squirrels, birds etc. and maybe because of their prey they get used to the taste and adopted it. What should I feed my Dog, shall I change the Diet... I feed my dogs with home cooked dog food that includes meat and veggies they do have a balanced diet but all of our dogs eat grass. Each of our dogs has their preferences to grass. I do not know about wolves if they eat grass but I know from living in Africa that lions eat grass when they can find it. Even people believe a dog will eat grass to cure himself. In my opinion, think as long a dog is healthy and eats grass it is ok. There is no solid evidence that eating grass is bad or good for your dog. If you feel your dog is missing some Vitamins and Minerals you can use supplements. What I would watch out for is that if your dog is throwing up each time after eating grass, then have a look at his vomit what comes out with it. Please see then your veterinarian.
Why does my dog eat grass then throw up?
Bring your dog to a veterinarian if your dog is throwing up to many times when eating grass. Sometimes he might have some parasites and he is trying to get rid of this parasites by throwing up. It is always good to keep an eye on youâre the dog when eating grass, you might also check which grass your dog prefers or which grass makes him vomit. As different grass has a different effect on dogs. No, I am not kidding, I can see my dogs each of them choosing different grass varieties. My German Shepard, for example, chooses the soft leave grass like the dandelion. My other Labrador loves the cat bamboo I bought for my cats. When dogs vomit constantly each time they eat grass you should have a checkup with your dog at your veterinarian. Only your veterinarian can check and knows if your dog might have a gastrointestinal disease that will be done through a physical exam of your dog. He will properly also takes blood to check his blood count. Blood counts will tell if your dog has inflammation or indicates a blood loss into the GI tract. For the chemistry panel, it will assess the health checks, Â the body stems that include pancreas and liver. Liver and pancreas are associated with the gastrointestinal tract. Save money with your vet bills and vet medication. Check it out how you can save a lot of $$$$ Â Click on the picture below.Â
In case there is something wrong with your dog, proper treatment can be done and if nothing is wrong then your dog is just doing what a dogs instinct is telling him to do.
Is there any health risk for my dog eating grass.
When dogs eat grass to make sure they are in a place they do not use pesticide. As pesticide on grass can actually poison your dog. If you can and have the place for it you might want to plant a small tray of grass just for your dog or start a small herbal garden. This might be a great idea for people who have pets in apartments. On the other hand, it will give your dog an alternative to eating outdoor grass and landscaping as you never know how it has been treated. Indigestion of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and or chemicals can be devastating and harmful for your dog. I go with my dogs always to places I know there will be no pesticides or any other harmful substances used. The same goes when you fertilize your grass in the springtime, make sure you use organic fertilizer and not chemical one that can poison pets.
If you should allow your Dog eating grass that is up to you. There is nothing wrong with a dog eating grass. In many ways when dogs eat grass, this is normal and you donât need to be alarmed. Unless you see a rapid increase like your dog is eating grass frantically and you notice a change in your dog's behaviour. When you have the feeling your dog is eating more grass than before. See your Veterinarian better safe than sorry. It is also confirmed by most experts that when dog eat grass it does not poses any risk to the dog. Be cautious that when your dog eats grass the grass is clean and no one has used chemical substances of any kind. There is grass for dogs available. If you live in an apartment or have no outside space that is a good solution. If you cannot find it, just plant some grass in a bigger bucket on your balcony. When you have a puppy watch out how much grass it takes in as too much grass and leaves can cause blockages and gastritis. Especially a teething puppy tends to chew more. It is like a baby. My dogs and cats have their own area in our home garden with herbs and different kind of grass varieties. Our pets have a well-balanced diet but they still munch away on different types of grass. Our cats have the cat bamboo and our dogs love them too. Even the cat grass our dogs love and munch away. Our cats are not so happy about it but lucky we have a big garden. Is your dog eating grass and how comfortable are you with that? Please share your experience and your tricks on how do you grow the grass for your dog living in an apartment.
