💜 2022 - 2023 SKETCHBOOK TOUR 💜

okay, here’s my most recent finished sketchbook,,, that means, it’s the one that got me through my biggest art block. for those who don’t know, i was super depressed during 2022, and i stopped drawing and posting the entire year. well, i actually drew a bit, but almost no finished pieces because i always ended up hating them, so. when i drew, it was mostly in this sketchbook. it has ugly drawings, stupid doodles, and some actually decent drawings 😋 but tbh i don’t care if this sketchbook has good drawings or not, because all these drawings, even the shitty ones, were the reason why i could slowly start drawing again; and, in 2023, i improved more than i had in the past 2 years so. im glad i spent 2022 letting myself draw shitty doodles <3

this post is a bit messier because the sketchbook itself is super messy and i didn't know how to edit the pics nor how to post them lmao... but if you want to see more of this sketchbook, i might post more pics for my instagram story highlights. i mean, they're just silly doodles but if you care, they'll be there!

OMG your tags... glad I'm not the only one that gets Folgers Coffee Commercial vibes from a lot of art of Dream with his sisters 😂

My guess is that it's a result of three tendencies: 1) "they're hot, who cares if they're related", 2) "well the only 'equal' pairing for an Endless is another Endless" and 3) "mythology sure has a lot of incest, and this *is* a mythology series so..."

Or, I guess, 4) it's as accidental as the coffee commercial allegedly was 🤣

Its actually amusing how much "official" Sandman art has some really... ahem *interesting* vibes.

None of us are gonna forget the Beefy Dream/Lady Bast softcore furry porn anytime soon now are we?!

But yeah maybe its a whole "mythology is basically all incest so its fiiiine" thing? (Side note: im currently listening to Stephen Fry read Mythos on Audible and its so SO good but yeah Greek Mythology is alllllll incest!).

Remember that art of Delirium basically sitting in Dreams lap with her legs over his shoulders? Dream was shirtless (as per usual) and Delirium had been drawn uber sexy?

Or just how many times Death and Dream have been drawn wrapped in each others arms (yeah yeah I'm sure there is poetry there about Dream being "in the embrace of Death" but STILL).

I think I even saw a Dream/Desire art piece where Desire is draped across Dream (though I can't recall if that was "official" art or fanart).

Honestly I think baring in mind the interview with Mason and Kirby where they joked that Dream is so shippable he even has sexual chemistry with their characters I guess we should maybe take a deep breath and accept that for any of the reasons mentioned above, we are in the legitimate incest fandom. Lmao!

Oh the scandal!

I'll be honest with you, I have wondered at times if maybe all Dream and Desire need to sort out their issues with each other is to fuck it out and use that as inspiration to create the horniest most feral sexual dreams possible.

but anyways- dudeee🥺🥺, stop. no. you're too sweet - it makes me so happy that you think it's nice to read!!:D, some backstory: the reason i'm so lowkey freaked out by the fact that you're like complimenting my writing style is bc when i first got into the fandom i read one of your works and literally thought 'woah omg- this is so good; how is this person not like a published author already', so ahhh - to have said person compliment my writing style is just- AAHHH djdkfhfdk no you stop!! there's no way that wasn't like a million times than the crazy stuff i write at 2am lol, but srsly though, i've gone and reread it like every day it always makes me practically squeal - it's so so good!!, and oh lol, if you had no clue, then you've def got my writing style downxD, i'm impressed than you had a clue half the time bc i sure as heck don't😂 HDNDHDJDHD HOW DARE YOU BE SO NICE IM LITERALLY GRINNING IN I.T CLASSxD, and oh yeah!! omg- idk if anyone else does this but i literally spend more time editing and changing words and stuff than actually doing the freaking writing lol FHDFJDFHBFKFHFKJFHFJFHFJFHFHF, are you... trying... to make me cry? because you're lowkey succeeding🥺💛, i don't even remember writing that line- the fact that you're casually referencing it is- *sobs*, like srsly thank uuu, the fact that you paid such close attention to stuff i barely even remember gives me so much serotonin:DD, this makes me so happy:D, and noo thank UUUU, for this masterpiece:DD

and yeah it definitely is!!:D, it was actually the first season of ninjago i watched ahaha so maybe i’m just biased though. the ending was so heartbreaking and kinda disturbing (when you consider that harumi didn't know they're have to traveller's tea... like villains are usually cruel but holding a kid at like skyscraper height at knifepoint as you force them to watch one of your allies murder most of the people they hold dear? that's... idk what to even describe it as oof-), but the whole season was so interesting!! the plot twists!! the character development!! PIXAL!!! all the history too- like YES- but yeah, like i said, you def don’t have to reply to,, whatever this is, lol - idk if any of it is actually, like, questions or stuff someone *could* reply to, yk? and i know that this was like a week ago but it made me so happy:D and i’m not gonna,, not say that, yk? so basically lol- thanks again!:D<3

it was really fun trying to mimic your writing style!  To me, it’s super poetic and meaningful. You seem to really like word pictures and metaphors and contrasting ideas, so I tried to channel those here but I wasn’t able to do it as well as you in the end 😆

"Hey, what are you doing?  Aren't we supposed to be laying low?"

If she were a lesser ninja, she might have jumped at his unexpected address.  But she has been aware of her tail ever since she left the base, has heard the light footfalls of someone who knew how to move silently but didn't have the right shoes to completely mask his steps; the quiet puffing breaths of someone who was used to moving quickly but not to the sudden limitations of his own body.

"Good evening to you too, kid," she says without looking up.

He huffs softly behind her, a small, annoyed sound.

"What are you doing?" he repeats.  "You know the Sons of Garmadon patrol these streets.  It's dangerous to be out in the open like this."

"Relax.  I'm almost done, you worrywart."

She surveys the wares in front of her with an eye possibly too critical for the simple dockhand she's playing to be.  At least her hands certainly look the part; they cradle the taper candles with a gentleness at odds with the rough callouses of her hands.  It's the same way she's always picked out items, from new mechanical parts to fresh ingredients at the market.  When they matter, she handles them with care.

"These three, ma'am," she says.

The older woman attending the stand wraps up the candles and exchanges them with her for the money.  Lloyd vibrates impatiently behind her, all energy and unable to control it.  He tags her footsteps as they step back out onto the street.

"Okay, so now are you gonna tell me?"

She doesn't answer him immediately.  

He takes a step closer.  With neon light bouncing off his eyes, he’s a facsimile of his former appearance.  A cruel joke, she would have thought this morning.

A promise, she thinks now.

"Nya?"

"Aren't the lights beautiful?"  

It's something she's always loved about the city.  Back in her small village, light was a far more limited resource.  Lanterns sometimes lit the path for her feet, but far more often, she relied on the stars for guidance.  They hung high in the sky above her head, subject to the whims of the weather, hiding when it was cloudy and vanishing at the approach of the sun.

Dazzling with all its lights, the city is a far better guide than the stars.  

"They're coming back, Lloyd," she breathes softly.

He looks at her, a question glittering in his eyes.

"The others are still alive," she says, she knows.  The planks that were the splintered aftermath of her worst nightmare now stoke a fire within her, one that will not die out.  

She holds up her package.  A candle in the window, burning brighter than any star.  A city, blazing so bright it could probably be seen from space.

"And they're gonna find their way back to us," she says.  "They're gonna make it home."
