thinking abt fresh and ink's relationship again.

neither of them care too much abt the concept of loyalty (or, rather, they do, but their loyalties lie almost exclusively with themselves), which leads to them not expecting loyalty from each other. despite referring to each other as friends and spending time together and helping each other out and even occasionally confiding in each other, neither would be surprised or betrayed or blame the other if they were to go against them.

and they have a lot of connections across the multiverse (sometimes in strange and unlikely places and people) due to their respective circumstances. so id imagine them having to fight against each other isn't exactly uncommon. and yet because this is not a betrayal to either, they go right back to being buddy-buddy after (well, unless they seriously injure each other, i guess. they can hold grudges but they generally get over them and go back to how things were)

anyway all that being said, i got struck with the thought of like- nightmare having to fight ink, and he recruits fresh's help without telling him hed be fighting ink and he expects there to be a lot of negativity—hes forcing two friends to fight each other, after all—but no. nothing. they just. fight.

and hes confused as hell.

"arent you two friends?? arent you allies??? why dont you feel anything????"

anyway yeah he learns not to expect anything from those two
