This interview took place only 12 hours before he lost his life. He was so looking forward to the 80s. I had this edit sitting in my folder for two months because it hurt listening to it. John had such a difficult childhood (losing his mother, his friend dying), his stardom weigh him down mentally, his marriage was a failure (and he couldn't really live in freedom with the person he truly loved due to societal norms). And then he gets robbed of his life in the most brutal way. How absolutely devastating...

In this clip, he clearly says the song is not for Yoko.

I was visualizing all the people of my age group from the 60s.... Having gone through everything together, I am singing to them. I'm really talking to the people that grew up with me and saying here I am now, how are you? How's your relationship going? Did you get through it all? Wasn't the 70s a drag? You know, here we are. Well, let's try and make the 80s good, you know, because it's still up to us to make what we can of it. It's not out of our control.

Ok so what do we think about the fact that in John’s song "(just like) starting over" he might be referencing to Paul three times just in one verse

“it’s time to spread our WINGS and fly, don’t let ANOTHER DAY go by, MY LOVE, it will be just like starting over"

Is he hinting at something?

I was reading this fic

Which is fantastic, btw, and it quotes "Just Like Starting Over," the section with all the Paul references. And then it quoted the bridge

Why don't we take off alone? Take a trip somewhere far, far away We'll be together, all alone again Like we used to in the early days Well, well, darlin'

Early Days sounded like a reference too, but what I found was Paul's song from 2013, which kinda suggests Paul was referencing Starting Over in 2013.

Also, there was no real reason to mention the fic, but it's really good so it felt like a good excuse to do so!

We already knew "Early Days" was about John cause Paul has said so, but it now seems to be line it was Paul's very late response to "Just Like Starting Over."

Continuing yesterday's post. This is take three of "My Life" the early version of "(Just like) Starting Over". The lyrics were completely different from the final version. The early version shows the romantic plea, the offering of one's life to someone you love deeply. In the vein of "Can't Help Falling in Love With You" - "Take my hand, take my whole life, too"
