Berni's Burny Nose Part 3: A Change of Season
Part Three Wheeeee!
I'm sorry this one took a bit longer for me to publish. I had a lot of stuff come up. Anyway, here's part 3 (also on SFF, same place as before)
Berni's Burny Nose Part 3: A Change of Season
Ever since she started being sneezy, Berni thought she would hate the seasons for the rest of her life. Spring was the month where it had all hit her, and the southern pollen sure hadn’t helped. Ever since her diagnosis, Berni had always sneezed and sniffled and sneezed and sniffled all the way from February to May. Summer wasn’t that much better. From April to June, Berni’s nose ran, her eyes watered, and both itched. And of course, there was always more sneezing. Berni had done the math and found that out of the entire year, the only times when nothing was actively blooming were December, January, Early February, and July, but even then she usually had some kind of lingering irritation. Regardless, Berni would have resigned herself to perpetual allergic misery even in those months if she did not have to suffer through fall. She hated the Fall. It was by far her worst season for her allergies, even if it only slightly outpaced her suffering in Summer and Spring. However, there were two decisive factors which made fall the greatest belligerent of her three pollen seasons: the start of the new school year and cold and flu season. Like clockwork, Fall dredged up not only Berni’s hay fever, but her insecurities about it. From the year she developed her allergies, it seemed like every year the people around her found them even more insufferable to be around. All the people who she once thought were her best friends for life seemed to trickle away year after year, and Berni’s first year of college perfectly exemplified this. She had come to college with no friends, with only her allergic misery to keep her company. However, as it was also now cold and flu season, Berni knew it was all about to get even worse. Something about Berni’s hay fever, the sleep she lost because of it, and endless worrying she did about it made it so that Berni had been extra susceptible to getting sick ever since she developed allergies. She always seemed to get frequent colds, especially in winter, when she should be convalescing from her fall allergies, and they always made her even more miserable and gross. Berni was always snotty because of her allergies, but was almost always very fluid. She would be congested, then she would sneeze and blow it out, then new congestion would take its place, but having a cold always disrupted this cycle. The mucus in her sinuses would always harden like cement, becoming almost impossible to dislodge without taking decongestants, but those always dried her up and made her snot come out in thick globs. She would become tired, even more so than with her allergies, and she would always develop a deep sinus headache. Worst of all, the mucus would never just stay in her nose, it would usually make its way to her chest, or linger in her sinuses enough for her to develop a sinus infection.
“Hey Bern…”
She would be miserable, and of course, no one would want to be around her. Why would they be? By the time she started college, she didn’t care anymore. She had already resigned herself to the fact that she’d always be alone.
“Berni are you okay?”
Berni snapped herself out of the allergic fugue she had been sinking into. She had been sinking into it a lot lately and normally didn’t even care about it, but she couldn’t do it now. She was with Sam and they were in the middle of the dining hall: “Huh?” she asked in dreary confusion.
“Are you doing okay?” Sam asked with concern in their voice, “you kind of drifted off a bit there.”
Of all the people to enter Berni’s life and make her feel terrible about herself, Sam was by far the most unexpected. The day she met them was going very consistently (groggy allergic misery mixed with severe feelings of loneliness) until that Latin class. Berni had met more than a few people on that first day of class, but something about Sam was…different. “I-I’m okay. I’m just…I’m just a little tired. That’s all” she reassured them.
Since she’d developed her allergies, Berni had heard more than her fair share of passive-aggressive “bless you”s and frustrated offers of tissues, but Sam was different. They had seen Berni when she was at her most pathetic and miserable and they hadn’t just offered her their handkerchief, they took her out to lunch. “You’ve been tired a lot lately, haven’t you?” Sam asked.
It had been a few weeks since then, and since then, but those weeks had been some of the most wonderful weeks of her life. She hadn’t needed to worry about her parents or her “friends” anymore, and Sam had done nothing but make her happy. They had hung out with her, they had asked her about what she liked and what she was interested in, they had sat there and listened intently to her explain how programming worked when she knew that they didn’t understand a thing she was saying. “Listed…Samb…I’mb sorry aboudt whadt happed the day we mbet,” Berni said stuffily and apologetically.
These last few weeks with Sam had been…amazing. Being with them didn't just make Berni feel the way she did before she had allergies, it made her feel better. She had been able to open up to him like she hadn’t been able to in years, even when her allergies were bad. Around them, she was able to be the smiling, happy, talkative girl that she had always been inside. Even when she sneezed or snuffled or blew her nose, they were always just right there, not going anywhere, ready to give a “bless you” and a smile. “What are you sorry about?” Sam asked, confused.
But over the past few days, Berni had started to wonder if maybe that amazing feeling would come to an end, that when her allergies picked up (which they were) or when she got sick (which she would) that…he’d be repulsed and turn away…just like everyone else. She couldn’t exactly blame him. She knew how she must have looked. “For breaking down while you were bringing me to the dumpling place,” Berni explained gloomily before blowing her nose into a handkerchief that was formerly one of Sam’s and now one of hers, “I shouldn’t have gotten all…cliggy and ndeedy…like that.”
“Oh,” Sam said with startling realization. “It…It’s okay,” they reassured, “I was just glad that I was able to make you feel better.”
“I had just met you. I was still practically still a stranger to you!” Berni said with a frog in her throat.
“Well, you’re not a stranger now. I like you Berni, I really do. You’re funny and cute. I love how passionate you are about everything you do, even if you try to hide it. I love how insanely good you are at coding stuff even though, for the life of me, I will never be able to understand what the heck a constructor is,”
Berni only sighed and turned back towards poking the food she was too muddled to be hungry for. There was a long, uncomfortable pause before Sam broke the silence:
“Listen…Bern…I’ve been thinking,” they said apprehensively.
“Yeah?” Berni asked, looking up at them, voice congested, ready for the worst.
“I know your allergies have been making you feel pretty terrible over the past few days, and I-”
“I-I-I-I’m…f…fine,” Berni stuttered anxiously before forcefully clearing her throat.
“I know you’re not fine Berni. I know you’ve been feeling worse lately. You’ve been rubbing your eyes more, you’ve been stuffier, and I can tell you haven’t been sleeping as much.”
Berni groaned miserably and put her face in her hands.
“Hey, it’s okay. Look at me,” Sam said as they tried to coax Berni out of her hiding place in the sleeves of her hoodie. “I’ve been talking to my roommate, and he told me he’s in an English class with a guy who’s family also works in the university medical system, and he says that he can get you an appointment at an allergist that’s right here on campus.”
“You told them about my hay fever?” Berni asked with panic in her voice.
“I just told them that I had a friend with some bad allergies that could use some help from a Doctor, and he told me that if he had your information, he could get you an appointment as soon as tomorrow.”
“I…I can’t,” Berni muttered.
“Why not?” Sam asked, “I know you need it. I could get permission to take you there during Latin class and we can get lunch together afterwards. We could make a day of it.”
“They’ll…they’re gonna wanna test me to find out what all my allergies are and how bad they are. They’ll make me take off my shirt so they can prick me with a bunch of needles with all the stuff they think I might be allergic to and it’s gonna make me break out in hives,” Berni explained glumly and congestedly. “Plus…they’re gonna make me…talk about them…”
“Talk?” Sam asked.
Berni slowly nodded her head in confirmation.
“Is there something that happened with them that you don’t want to talk about?”
Berni nodded again.
“Was it something to do with…Japan?” Sam asked.
Berni nodded again, this time, with a sob.
“Well…how about you tell me first? That way, if it gets too much for you, I won’t mind, and you can stop at any time.”
“I ca…c..ah…Ah…AHH-TSCHIEW! I’m sorry!” Berni said before being interrupted with a violent sneeze and a muffled sob.
“Why not? There’s no one else around. Besides, I won’t mind if it ends up like the first time we went to get dumplings.”
There was a long pause as Berni thought it over. She spent several minutes waiting and contemplating whether or not she should tell Sam, but her contemplation was interrupted by a harsh, throaty “HASHOO!” straight into her hands. “Sorry,” she apologized as she wiped herself off with her hanky.
“You’re fine, I know you can’t help it.”
When she finished wiping her nose, Berni paused, before turning towards Sam. Berni’s beautiful amber eyes were just as pink, irritated, and watery as her nose. Her cheeks were flushed, both from the embarrassment and from her allergies, but regardless, she decided that she had to tell them.
“I only started having them really bad a few years ago.” she related with a dejected, congested sniffle.
“Did something happen?” Sam asked.
Berni stopped to give her nose a quick gurgle before continuing: “Fall always made me a bit itchy, but it was never a big deal. I played sports and did all that other stuff and even though I might have IGK-CHIEW! sneezed a few times. It was never that bad, but a few years ago, my parents decided that they needed to…HITCHEW!...take me to Japan because I hadn’t…heh-Heh-SHEW!...been before.”
“What happened?” Sam asked.
“Well-” she was about to continue, but stopped when she realized that in the span of a moment, she had already become congested again. She made a sound that sounded like halfway between a sniff and a snort, before continuing despite the congestion. “The first time they took me there was during fall break, and…ASHIEW!...sorry…while I was there, I caught a cold. At least, we thought it was a cold. My nose got all red and itchy and snotty, and I started…eh-Eh-Eh-ESHOO! Eh-CHOO! sneezing like crazy. I felt horrible, but we stayed anyway. When we got home, I started…ATSHIEW!...sorry…I started getting better, but I was still sneezing. I started not sleeping so great and people started…avoiding me.”
At this point, she was crying. Regardless, Sam only got closer to her. They wrapped their arm around her in a comforting half-hug. “That sounds terrible,” they told the allergic girl with pity in their voice.
“When they took me back in January, I caught another cold. It wasn’t as bad as the first one, but when we got home, it took me a bi…bi…TISHIEW! HEKSHIEW! HAT-SHIEW!...it took me a bit longer to get better. Then, when they took me again for spring break and we stayed a bit longer ASHEW!, I caught one again HIGSHEW!, but when they brought me home CHOO!, I didn’t get better ETCHIEW!. I was itching and sneezing just like I am now for a whole month before they took me to a doctor and…he told me…he told me that…”
“It wasn’t a cold.”
“Yeah…” she said with a sob, “He said that the pollen in Japan is so bad that it can make people…At-TSHIEW!...who normally have almost no allergies or even no allergies at all HEESHOO!...sorry…hypersensitive! Ragweed, which I was already a little bit ECHEW! sensitive to, is really bad there, but the big bad one is called CATCHEW! Sugi or Japanese Aht-SHOO! Cedar. Those were the ones that got me and now I…I…ah-Ah-AH-Ahtshiee! Now I’m allergic to everything!” she lamented with a wet blow.
“Like, ‘everything’ everything?”
“Everything!” she nearly shouted, “Ragweed Het-TISH!, grass ET-CHI!, trees ATSHEW!, everything! I sneeze all spring, summer, and fall from the pollen, but that’s not the worst of it. The worst is whed I ged sick.” she recounted, congestion now filling her voice.
“What happens?” Sam asked worryingly.
“Eved id the modts where there’s not ady polled, ever sidce I got hay fever I’ve always had these awful colds every widter add fall. Mby sdeezes becobe eved grosser, butd the sdot ndever leaves by dose, and idt feels like itd lasts forever…”
“You sound like you need to blow your nose, but what does that have to do with going to an allergist?” Sam asked.
Berni stopped to give a wet gurgling blow. However, during her blow she was interrupted by three sharp, throaty sneezes, so she blew again. This time with a loud honk. When she looked up to answer Sam, her voice was still full of tears: “I can’t let you see me when my allergies get worse, or when I get sick. Pretty soon, you’re finally gonna realize how much of a gross mess I am and when you do you’ll tell me to stop. You’ll tell me to just stifle it or hold it in and stop being so dramatic. And when I can’t do that…you’ll leave. Just like all my friends did.”
There was a short gasp of realization from Sam before they suddenly threw their arms around Berni and embraced her. When they did, Berni squirmed and tried to protest with a “What? No!” before being completely disarmed by a loud “hehhh….heh-Heh-HETCHIEW! I’m sorry!” but before she could sneeze or protest again, Sam pulled her poor stuffy head into the shoulder of their flannel so that she could muffle two wet “heh-Eh-HmpfSHH! HrppSHH!” sneezes into it. “Why?” Berni cried out. “My hay fever is just gonna keep pushing you away!”
“No it’s not Berni,” Sam reassured her, “I’m never going let your allergies push me away, I’m never going to ask you to hold it in, and I’m not going to leave you just because you sneeze. I like you Berni! You’re my friend. I’m not gonna anything get in the way of being friends with you, not even allergies.”
“Or a cold?”
“Or a cold,” Sam reassured.
There was a silence in which Sam and Berni did nothing but hold each other in their arms, before Berni asked, “After I go to the allergist, can you take me to get dumplings again?”
“Of course,” Sam said.
“Can we go Wednesday?” Berni asked with a sniffle, “I have a test in my Modern Literature class after Latin.”
“Oh course Berni, but could you do me one favor?” “Sure,” she replied
“If you can, do you think you could try to stop apologizing for your sneezes?” “Why?” Berni asked.
“You don’t have anything to apologize to me for. And…it sometimes makes me a little uncomfortable.
“Okay…ih-Ih-ITCHEW!...sorry,” she replied before realizing her mistake with a gasp, “I’m sorry for saying sorry! I didn’t mean to-”
"No no no, Berni it’s okay,” Sam reassured. “I know you didn’t mean to. Maybe we should pick something else instead that doesn’t sound as apologetic.”
“Like what? hah-Heh-HEH-HESHIEW!” Berni asked before sneezing again. “Hey, I didn’t say it this time.”
“Hmm…” Sam wondered, “What about ‘excuse me’? It sounds so much more fun and silly than ‘sorry’. It’s kind of funny, like it's something we can laugh about”
“Hmmm…” Berni thought, but her sounds of pondering quickly transformed into yet another “hihh-Hih-HEH-HEETCHIEW!” followed by a tired “Sor…I mean…excuse me.”
“Yeah, like that. You shouldn't be all apologetic about...”
But before they could finish, Berni was of course interrupted yet again: “ATCHIEW!” Berni sneezed suddenly with a “AHH-SHEW! TEECHIEW! ACKSHOO!” she sneezed harshly before giving a small chuckle and a “Whew, excuse me.”
“That’s more like it,” Sam said with a slight smile.
“Oka..kuh…Kuh…Kuh…” she started as she began building up to what she knew would be an absolutely colossal sneeze, even for her standards. “Kuh-KUH-KATSHOOOO!” she sneezed out. Just an hour ago, this sneeze would’ve made Berni want to crawl into a hole and die, but for some reason, something about the way Sam was looking out at her made her want to laugh about it. “Wow, that was a big one. Excuse me!” she said before bursting into a fit of giggles
Instead of being disgusted, Sam’s smile only grew warmer as they gave Berni a “Bless you a bunch sweetie. Do you feel better now?”
“A lot better,” Berni said as she took out the big white hanky and began cleaning herself up and giving her nose a wet honk, “But I’d still like to go see that allergist with you. Does tomorrow during Latin still work for you?”
“Of course Berni.” Sam assured.

Using OTC Medications For Claritin and Other Antihistamines to Treat Allergy Symptoms
It is important for allergy sufferers to realize that not all allergy medications are created equal. Many of the medications available to target one or more aspects of your allergic response and many times they will not alleviate your symptoms at all. It is important to understand what allergy medications do, how they work and why before you purchase them. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, or have a family history of allergies it is especially important to be informed about which medications may be helpful to you. Learn more about Beclomethasone Dipropionate, go here.
Allergy medications work by reducing the allergen exposure in your body to help reduce the symptoms associated with your allergy. Claritin is one of the most popular allergy medications in the marketplace today. It is used to treat people who suffer from seasonal allergies as well as those individuals who are suffering from hay fever and other types of pollen based allergies. This specific ingredient is found in Allergy Relief, an all natural, over the counter medicine available without a prescription. Find out for further details on Desloratadine right here.
The only way you can be sure that your allergies are being addressed is to go to your doctor and get a consultation. Your doctor will be able to determine the best course of action for you and whether or not you should be using over the counter or prescription allergy medications. If you are uncertain about any of the ingredients in the product you are considering you should consult with a medical professional so that your concerns can be addressed.
Claritin and other OTC allergy medications are often prescribed along with a suite of oral and topical treatments to help you address the common allergy symptoms such as itchy eyes, runny and stuffy nose and watery eyes. There are many OTC products that are available that can help with skin concerns including rashes and dryness. These products include Claritin Soothing Clear, Lavender Good Enough Lotion and Simply Sleep. All of these products are specifically formulated to help allergy sufferers eliminate their itchy eyes and nasal congestion. Take a look at this link https://www.wikihow.com/Treat-Allergies for more information.
If you have high blood pressure, you should discuss the possibility of using some of the over-the-counter allergy medications with your doctor before taking them. In addition to being potentially dangerous if you have high blood pressure, some of the medications used for allergies can raise your high blood pressure level. Before you begin taking any type of OTC medication, you should discuss the possible side effects with your doctor and a registered pharmacist. You should also check with your pharmacist if the medications are right for you.
If you do not want to take prescription allergy medications, you may consider purchasing a comprehensive list of natural ingredients that have proven successful in helping people to combat allergies. You can find these allergy medications online by searching for natural ingredients. They may also be purchased through your local health food store.

How To Minimize Allergens In Your Home
Sneeze, sneeze, repeat. Allergy season is upon us. People who suffer from allergies are very aware of the unbearable symptoms they encounter this time of year. The good news is, your home can be a safe place where you can be free of allergy symptoms. It’s important to be aware of what your allergies are. Then, recognize the common culprits in your home that aggravate your allergies and finally clear your home of all these allergens.
Do You Have Allergies?
If you already know you have allergies, scroll down to see our home cleaning tips! Many people are not aware that they have allergies. Classic signs of allergies include:
Itchy or runny nose
Watery itchy red eyes
Sneezing
Cough
Postnasal drip
Fatigue
The allergic salute (rubbing your nose up and down violently)
A nose crease (a line caused across the nose by the salute)
Allergy shiners (bags under the eyes)
Many people who have allergies also experience eczema or asthma. If you realize you only get symptoms of allergies around springtime, it most likely means you have hay fever. Those with hay fever are allergic to pollen, grass, and trees. If you think you suffer from allergies, speak to a medical professional and take an allergy test. For people who suffer from intense food allergies, an allergy test could save their life!
Allergy Culprits
Your home is an environment where you can control the allergens around you. The biggest allergens in the home include:
Dust Mites
Bugs (cockroaches)
Dander from pets
Spores from indoor and outdoor mold or fungi
Freeing Your Home of Allergens
It is important to remember to wear gloves and a mask when cleaning allergens. If possible, ask someone without allergies in your home to complete these cleaning tasks.
Get Rid of Dust Mites
Replace Air Filters – When dirty, air filters increase the amount of dust in your home.
Don’t Use Dusters – Dust with a wet rag instead of a duster, this traps allergens instead of pushing them into the air.
Vacuum Often – Vacuuming is much more effective than washing carpets because it removes the dust mites.
Clean Linens- Wash sheets and towels weekly with fragrance-free detergent. Fragrances aggravate allergic reactions.
Declutter- The fewer items you have out, the easier it will be to counteract dust.
Keep Windows Closed- Open windows will only add to the dirt and dust in your home.
Bugs (Cockroaches)
Of all bugs, cockroaches are one of the worst for allergies because of the feces they leave behind. Keeping your home free of bugs will reduce allergens and keep the air cleaner in your home. Here are some tips for keeping your home bug free:
Clean- Clean out old food, wipe down eating areas, mop floors. Clean the window frames, and under the bed, these areas are where the most dead bugs can be found.
Spray- Use a bug-killing powder, like Raid, to fumigate your home. Make sure you read the instructions carefully. Be careful, many bug killers are also poisonous to humans and pets.
Hire Pest Control- Use an exterior home design app, like Fairmarket, to hire a local pest control company to take care of bugs, or prevent bugs from coming into your home. They are experts on pests and customize their services to your needs. On the Fairmarket app, you will find trustworthy and fairly priced pest control companies based on an honest rating and bidding system.
Dander from Pets
Dander from pets adds to the amount of dust and allergens in the air of your home. If you have a pet who constantly sheds, here are some tips….
Zones– Keep your pets in one area of the house away from the areas you spend the most time.
Vacuum- Vacuuming is an excellent way to keep reduce the amount of fur in the air.
Grooming- Getting your animals groomed is a helpful way to keep shedding down. If you find grooming is overpriced, a cheaper way is to buy shedding brushes that help pull the dog or cats shedding hair out.
Bathing – During allergy season, bathe your pet frequently. Their fur can trap allergens and bring them into your home.
Mold/Fungi
Many people have moldy bathrooms and are not even aware of it. If you can visually see mold in your bathroom that means it is already a problem. Mold grows in dark places, then comes to the surface. If you see what appears to be dirt on your walls or tiles, that is most likely black mold. If your tiles or walls appear damaged, this is another sign that mold is destroying it from the interior. Watch for bugs and a musty smell in your bathroom or kitchen, these are additional signs of mold.
Here are some ways to avoid and remove mold:
Clean- Clean your bathroom tiles and shower weekly. Wash or wipe your shower curtains at least twice a month, or more if needed. Mold on shower curtains and bathroom rugs are extremely common.
Dry- Keep your bathroom dry by making sure nothing is leaking. Clean up water on the ground after a shower with a towel.
Lighting- Make sure your bathroom is well lit. Mold thrives in the darkness.
Air -Invest in a fan or for your bathroom to circulated (this is to prevent mold, but is not recommended if you already have mold because it will circulate the spores into the air). You can also invest in a dehumidifier for areas like bathrooms and laundry rooms which will help remove excess moisture to help keep mold from spreading.
Mold Crisis- If you have a mold infestation underneath your tile, you need to hire a team to come in and remove the tile so the mold can be removed. Cleaning above the tile will not resolve this problem. This is a serious health hazard for everyone, especially those with mold allergies.
Choose Materials Carefully- It is important to be aware of the materials in your kitchen and bathroom. Mold loves wood paneling. Be wary of putting wood paneling in any dark places in your home. Use an interior and exterior home maintenance app to help you pick the best materials and contractors to renovate your home. Make sure you have quality grout and sealer over your tiles, this is the best way to avoid major mold growth. Remember, mold can lurk in secret places.
Fix Water Leaks- Have routine plumbing inspections. Make sure that you do not have leaks, and when you do, fix them as soon as possible. You can easily hire a plumber on Fairmarket.
With these tips, your home will be free of the common culprits of allergens in the home. Happy healthy living! No more sneezing, stuffy sinuses, and suffering at your home. Now your home can be your sanctuary from this spring season!

The Curse Of Hay Fever (Or Rose Cold, Summer Catarrh, Etc.) in Cincinnati
Has any Cincinnatian escaped the agonies of hay fever? Give a thought to our patron saint, poor William Morrow of Hartwell. Hay fever killed him in 1902. Among the 528,000 vital records recorded in Cincinnati from 1865 to 1912, Mr. Morrow is the only person for whom hay fever is the official cause of death.
For the rest of us, pollen season only makes us feel like we are dying.
Hay fever first emerges as a distinct affliction in the 1860s, when several famous men proclaimed their affliction, including statesman Daniel Webster and the Reverend Henry Ward Beecher. The association with educated celebrities led to the theory that only smart people got hay fever, a theory propounded in the Cincinnati Star [21 August 1877]:
“A man who cannot get up a reasonably severe case of hay-fever should not aspire to being considered intellectual.”
The Reverend Beecher was such a noted victim that his essay on hay fever was published in the Cincinnati Gazette [23 October 1868]. Beecher described his own symptoms, offered some hypotheses as to the cause of the disease and described a veritable pharmacopeia of nostrums. His endorsement of pennyroyal suggests that his tone was not entirely serious:
“You will now be in a state to use pennyroyal. As it grows everywhere abundantly do not stint yourself. Get an armful. Make a strong tea, and drink it; a strong decoction and wash in it, smell of it, rub your forehead with the leaves, and if you can, conveniently, lie down on it and roll as you may have seen a cat do with catnip.”
It took centuries for medical science to figure out how allergies worked, much less how to alleviate their symptoms. Cincinnati doctors promoted a fascinating assortment of theories over the years in an ultimately futile effort to provide some relief.
One of Cincinnati’s very few woman doctors, Julia W. Carpenter, wrote to the Cincinnati Medical Journal [November 1889] to convey information she picked up from doctors tending patients at a hay fever symposium in New Hampshire.
“A physician expressed some decidedly novel views on the subject of food. He attributed most diseases, including hay fever, to eating more than was needed to sustain the body, and said if hay fever subjects would eat only two light meals a day, and those of suitable food, from April until October, not one case of that disease could be found. Hundreds would be willing to try the experiment if there seemed only a moderate chance of success.”
Dr. Carpenter herself preferred to apply ice packs to the base of the neck for up to 15 minutes as an effective relief. Every patient agreed that commercially available “cures” only made their hay fever worse.
It’s a wonder they survived. Among the most popular patent medicines were medical cigarettes. Sold as “catarrh cigarettes” or “cubeb cigarettes,” these non-tobacco products incorporated various herbs and spices, including a type of pepper, that provided relief through irritation of the breathing passages.
At least one company sold iodine inhalers, employing a compound known as carbolate of iodine, which was prepared by mixing iodine with carbolic acid. Sniffing a tube of this concoction not only relieved the symptoms of hay fever, but allegedly also cured halitosis!
On the theory that hay fever was caused by a type of bacteria, some sufferers tried painting their inner nostrils with a quinine solution. The Cincinnati Gazette [24 November 1869] described how a doctor endured the treatment:
“He took a saturated neutral solution of quinine sulphate in water 1:740. This excites a moderate sensation of burning in the nasal mucus membrane. Lying upon his back, he dropped four centimes of the solution by a pencil in each nostril; moving his head meanwhile in all directions, to bring the fluid thoroughly into contact with the parts, until he felt it reach the esophagus.”
The Medicated Air Remedy Company, located in the Emery Hotel arcade, placed an advertisement in the Cincinnati Post [1 August 1885] that raises as many questions as it answers:
“Hay Fever can be controlled. The Air Medicator and Injector, a simple instrument by which Air is Medicated and Injected into the passageways of the head, Will Do It, and relieve the most stubborn cases quickly. Particulars and testimonials free.”
Other physicians recommended cocaine or morphine. One Cincinnati doctor noted that his patient had become a morphine addict and suffered terrifying agonies during a cold-turkey withdrawal, but he wasn’t sniffling anymore.
Even tobacco gained favor as a cure for hay fever, according to the Cincinnati Commercial Tribune [29 July 1889], but there was a catch:
“A cigar smoked the last thing before going to bed has often insured a good night’s rest. But a hay-asthmatic is warned never to smoke tobacco but for his malady. Smoking should never be to him a habit or a meal, for it then ceases to be a medicine. Indeed, to him it should be a deadly drug, for it is by poisoning that it cures.”
All of this led a correspondent, signing as “A Victim” to write to the Tribune [25 September 1874]:
“Is there no balm in Gilead, no physician there? Can I get no cure in this fine city, which boasts of so many skillful physicians and so many men of science. I am a victim, and have been for upwards of five weeks, to this fearfully wearing and worrying disease, hay fever.”
The anonymous writer’s plea was answered, in Cincinnati no less, when George Rieveschl discovered diphenhydramine, marketed as Benadryl since 1946.

Allergic Rhinitis
Allergic Rhinitis which is commonly referred to as hay fever, is a health condition where your body has an allergic reaction to certain triggers like pollen, dust, smoke, perfume, or cigarettes. While some may have the allergy seasonally, there are others who suffer from a perennial form of allergic rhinitis. If you have perennial hay fever, then you may be allergic to triggers that are present throughout the year like dust mites, cockroaches or animal dander. People who suffer from this health condition and have a pet at home may find it difficult to handle the pets without heightening their allergies.
Most of the times, people who suffer from allergic rhinitis usually has someone in the family who already suffers from allergens. Family history is known to be the primary reason for allergic rhinitis, but there can be other causes too.
Those who suffer from allergic rhinitis have an immune system which considers the allergens as harmful substances. This is why your body releases histamine which is a chemical that helps your body defend itself from harmful intruders.
Symptoms and Signs
Those who suffer from hay fever will react to the presence of certain allergens. When their body comes in contact with the allergen, they will show the following symptoms:
Running nose
Sudden bouts of sneezing
Your eyes, throat and nose may feel itchy and even the palate of the mouth may itch.
The allergy can also lead to watery eyes
The stuffy nose can also cause headaches
Some may even suffer from swollen eyelids
The symptoms of allergic rhinitis will only appear when the person is in contact with one of the allergens. At all other times, the person will not have any problems. However, if the allergen is very common then the patient has to be careful or else they may end up with the symptoms too often.
Diagnosis
The diagnosis of Allergic rhinitis is based on the patient’s information regarding the symptoms they notice when they come in contact with certain allergens. Once the doctor understand the symptoms and signs, further tests are conducted to check how your body reacts to the allergens. These tests may involve a blood test or a skin prick test.
The doctor’s diagnosis of this condition is also based on your family history because allergic rhinitis is often passed from one member of the family to another.

Cells at Work's Guide to the Rogues Gallery Inside Your Body
Cells at Work may not have seemed to be the educational thrill ride that it turned out to be at first, but in the end the series has taught us a lot about the human body, from how blood cells circulate, to where they come from, how the immune system operates, and even the way our body can sometimes fight itself when fighting intruders. While Red and White Blood Cell became memorable characters this season, the villains of Cells at Work presented daily, common threats to the human body in very anime designs, making them just as memorable. But how dangerous are these various intruders? What do they actually do? And which one of them is the worst?! We’ll be talking about the rogue’s gallery of the human body that’s popped up in Cells at Work, helping you all learn a bit more about not just the human body, but the threats posed to it by the outside (and inside…)!
Pollen Allergen
Our first invader is the generally harmless pollen allergen. In the anime, Cedar Pollen is the culprit, but depending on where you’re located, you might encounter all different types of pollen and allergic reactions! Unlike other types of allergies, such as food allergies, the type caused by Cedar Pollen and other irritants is rarely life threatening, but instead just simply annoying, causing sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, congestion, and other sinus related symptoms. Matching their large, harmless, and clueless, anime counterparts, pollen, dust, and animal dander generally enter the body through the nasal cavity or other openings by accident and create inflammation reactions from the body. Perhaps ironically, most medications taken for these types of inflammations, known as Antihistamines, are taken to help calm the Mast cell’s response to the invasion, rather than fighting off the allergen itself. Hay fever thankfully doesn’t last very long, but if you happen to suffer from you, you certainly know how annoying it can be whenever that time of year comes around!
Pneumococcus
One of the first threats we’re introduced to in the anime is Pneumococcus, a bacteria who is also known as Streptococcus pneumoniae. In Cells at Work, Pneumococcus appears as an almost Dragon Ball Z-esque villain, with sharp talons and numerous dangerous abilities. The real Pneumococcus is indeed quite dangerous and powerful, but also very common and deceptively responsible for a number of ailments. While the first reaction might be to think pneumonia, Pneumococcus is also responsible for causing types of meningitis, bronchitis, conjunctivitis, and many other infections and diseases that mainly target the respiratory system. Pneumococcus is actually quite common in the human body, however, and even lives generally harmlessly in nasal and respiratory tracts until it becomes pathogenic, which is when the real danger starts! There are a few vaccines to prevent some of the real dangers, but it's quite common to blame Pneumococcus for many of the common colds you encounter.
Staphylococcus Aureus
Similar to Pneumococcus, the bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus is another normal inhabitant of the human body, usually circulating around the nose and respiratory system and the skin. Represented in the anime as a haughty ojou-sama with grape theming, Staphylococcus does indeed have a somewhat grape-like shape (thus, as explained by the anime, the reason for its name!), but how dangerous is it? Staphylococcus is quite common and actually quite dangerous if it begins to become pathogenic! Like Pneumococcus, it spends a lot of time around the human body, and can even have some beneficial effects, but when it becomes pathogenic, it can be a real danger, even morphing into the dangerous MRSA! Staphylococcus tends to enter the body through abrasions in the skin, and play a large role in types of skin infections like boils, cellulitis, and atopic dermatitis (widely known as eczema). Staphylococcus also plays a big role in food poisoning, and in many cases humans come into contact with it from types of fluid from the human body like pus. There are also cases in which people who use injection medication or need implants for medical treatment have had to fend off Staphylococcus, as it tends to be enter the body through these types of openings in the body. While it may give off a haughty “Ohohohoho” and a “desu wa” in the anime, there’s certainly nothing regal or nice about this bacteria!
Vibrio & Anisakis
If you’ve ever gotten a stomach flu after eating improperly prepared seafood, you’ve likely had an encounter with the bacteria Vibrio. Although nowhere near as common as the other bacteria, Vibrio is quite dangerous, and can be very lethal! Vibrio can be easily treated, however, if caught in time, and if patients take good care to listen to their bodies, but it certainly is a potential danger to watch out for. Unlike some of the other bacteria, Vibrio strains aren’t normally occurring in the human body that turn pathological, which is why it tends to be particularly dangerous when introduced accidentally. While Vibrio can cause at the least a bad time in the bathroom, the Anisakis parasite it shares an episode with is potentially more dangerous! Also attached to seafood, Anisakis can cause Anisakiasis, and potentially even allergic reactions in certain people. Perhaps ironically, Anisakis is dangerous after its own death; after trying to burrow through the intestines, Aniksakis gets stuck and dies, and can cause blockage of the digestive system, or further infection if the larvae it sheds spread into other parts of the body. The anaphylaxis shock it can create in allergic patients is even scarier, and requires immediate life saving treatment!
Bacillus cereus
Although portrayed as a dangerous invader in Cells at Work, Bacillus cereus is a somewhat interesting bacteria that can be as helpful as it can be harmful. Like some of the other bacteria featured in the show, Bacillus cereus is naturally occuring and populated amongst living organisms like humans. In fact, Bacillus cereus has an important job in the digestive tract, acting as one of the three types of bacteria found in the gut that compete with one another, and in so doing, help reduce the danger of bacterial infections from food. Salmonella and Campylobacter are the other two, and just like them, Bacillus cereus can be very dangerous if too much of it is found in the body! In cases of potential Salmonella problems, Bacillus can even be used as a treatment, consuming and fighting with the Salmonella bacteria. However, the biggest threat of Bacillus cereus is that it is very heat and alcohol resistant, making it quite hard to kill. One of the most common places to find Bacillus is in improperly stored food, being the main culprit of “fried rice syndrome,” appearing in food that sits at room temperature for too long. So while Bacillus cereus can help keep us healthy and protect our digestive tracts, it can also be quite dangerous, so make sure to store your food properly!
Pseudomonas
Showing up to try and opportunistically feast on a young Red Blood Cell, the dastardly Pseudomonas lives up to that depiction in the way it operates in the human body! Pseudomonas is a bacteria that has the ability to survive in conditions that many other bacteria cannot, meaning that the infections that it causes can be hard to prevent and take care of. Pseudomonas is an “opportunistic” bacteria, hunting down nutrients to sustain itself in places that few other bacteria would ever be able to survive in, and can withstand medical treatments that other types of bacteria can’t stand up against! Pseudomonas are dangerous, as they have many tricks up their sleeve to survive harsh conditions and treatments, making them particularly hard to get rid of. Pseudomonas is one of the leading causes of types of pneumonia, and tends to be the cause of hospital related infections ranging from pneumonia and UTIs. Pseudomonas are resistant to penicillin, as well as many other antibiotics due to its ability to survive where other bacteria cannot. While Pseudomonas can be helpful in controlling certain types of crops and soil conditions, it is an extremely dangerous bacteria that is very hard to get rid of, making it a somewhat infamous threat.
Influenza
Speaking of the flu, one of the more dangerous rogues in Cells at Work’s list of invaders is Influenza, an infectious disease that can cause a range of symptoms from minor discomfort to lethal consequences! Often mistaken for a “cold,” or mistaken as the root cause of “stomach flu” or “24 hour flu,” Influenza is a unique and dangerous disease caused by a virus rather than a bacteria. The Flu’s biggest danger is that it is easily passed from one person to another, making “Flu season” a yearly dangerous and unwanted season that can put numerous populations at risk of infection. While many younger people and healthy adults will shake off the flu as an irritant, or present no actual symptoms, many people who catch the Flu can suffer a range of debilitating symptoms. While Flu shots help keep the disease at bay, many people rarely get one or think they need one, meaning that Flu outbreaks are quite common across the world. To make matters worse for the overworked members of our immune systems, the Flu is constantly changing, with different strains and viruses that pop up from various places and circumstances. When you hear Flu season is coming, consider getting a flu shot, wash your hands, and if you feel ill, stay home or seek out a doctor. You don’t want to play around with the Flu or make other people ill!
Cancer Cell
Perhaps unsurprising for those who watch Cells at Work and know a bit about medical diseases, our final and most dangerous rogue is the lowly (at first!) Cancer Cell. Unlike the other invaders and unwelcome visitors mentioned here, cancer cells are not only common, but occur in almost every person’s body to some degree during life. Cancer cells are cells that don’t stop dividing, instead spreading at a dangerous rate and causing numerous debilitating and dangerous health complications, including death. While some cancers are affected by outside influences like smoking or exposure to substances like asbestos, cancer cells will also generally appear in the body during cell division, only becoming a problem when their spread is left unchecked by the immune system and they are able to grow into tumors and other health problems. Cancer benefits from a unique feature called Telomerase, which gives them an unnaturally long lifespan compared to a regular cell, which is why their endless growth and division becomes a problem if left unchecked by the body or by medical treatment. Sadly, many cancers are fatal, and it is important to learn how to properly detect and treat cancer; while the tragic fate of the Cancer cell is to be hunted by the very cells that surrounded it in the body, if left unchecked Cancer will potentially cause life threatening harm to the body.
Cells at Work certainly presents a whole host of unique dangers to the human body, but sometimes these invaders can be beneficial to ourselves, or the world around us. Others grow unwittingly inside of our own body, becoming a problem when there’s no checks or balances to take care of them early enough. Hopefully, between this article and Cells at Work, you can start identifying threats to your beloved cells early! So remember: wash your hands, properly treat cuts and wounds, cook foods to proper temperatures and store them properly, and seek medical help if you need it! Your cells are counting on you to do your part in helping them do their jobs!
Know any other interesting medical facts brought up by Cells at Work? Have a particularly favorite Cell or Invader? Let us know in the comments!

Nasal Allergies...how can sprays help?
https://www.simplymedsonline.co.uk/blog/nasal-allergieshow-can-sprays-help
Hay fever and Nasal Sprays
Hay fever season is back once again. Although many of us will welcome the sun and warm weather the spring season brings us, for some of us this also brings uncomfortable allergies.
We are here to help you get through this hay fever season without any irritating ailments through the armoury we have at our disposal. This article will specifically look at the different types of nasal sprays on offer, and how they work to help combat pollen allergies.
Hay fever medications come in various forms; Tablets, Nasal sprays, Eye drops and Balms to name the most common. Tablets are best at covering symptoms which are widespread, you may be suffering with itchy eyes, runny nose or sneezing and tickly throat. The oral tablets will help to control all of these symptoms.
Eye drops actively target symptoms affecting your eyes such as itching, watery eyes or just general discomfort. They are an effective tool in helping to combat irritating symptoms of the eye, especially if that is the only part which is affected.
Nasal sprays work effectively to help target issues regarding the nose; blocked and runny noses, sneezing or just general discomfort. They are an effective targeted way to relieve these symptoms and are especially useful if your symptoms only affect the nose.
Decongestant nasal sprays
Provides fast relief from blocked nose. It starts working in as little as a few minutes and effects can last up to 10 hours. Best used for short term temporary relief as prolonged use can cause reversal of symptoms, leading to further nose blocks.
Otrivine Nasal Spray
Sudafed blocked nose spray
Otrivine child nasal drops
Corticosteroid Nasal Sprays
These provide longer term relief from hay fever symptoms. These work best for symptoms such as blocked nose, sneezing and runny noses. These nasal sprays take longer to start working, around 48 hours, but they can be used on a long-term basis. So, you can carry on using it throughout the pollen season and be rest assured your nasal discomfort will be kept at bay.
Clarinaze
Pirinase
Beconase
Benacort
Drug Free Nasal Sprays
There is a third type of nasal spray which is becoming ever more popular. These are drug free, and are suitable for those who may be on other medication or have conditions which may prevent use of the above two types. You can get sprays which act as a nasal irrigation which mean that they clear out your nasal passage of any pollen, kind of like a wash. They also help to restore
Sterimar Congestion
Sterimar hayfever and Allergy
Sterimar Breathe Easy
The other type of drug free nasal products act as a barrier to pollen particles. They come in the form of nasal sprays and also balms which are applied to the entrance of the nostrils. The idea behind this type of medication is to help act as a barrier but also a surface for pollen to stick to. If the pollen sticks to the barrier it prevents it from going deeper into the nose where it can cause the irritating symptoms.
Becodefence for kids
Becodefence for adults
As you can see there are a variety of nasal sprays to help keep the pollen away this hay fever season. Why not take a look at the rest of the Allergy medication on offer HERE.

Children With Allergies Can Experience The Same Symptoms As Children Without Allergies
Children with allergies are usually considered to be naughty, and bad. They are scolded, punished, ignored, or made to feel guilty for something they may be allergic to without regard to the actual cause. This can lead to depression, low self-esteem, and even some learning disabilities in some cases. The result is that children with allergies do not have the right tools, information, or support to identify the reason of their allergies and seek appropriate treatment. If you have children with allergies, you need to take the time to learn about allergy symptoms and how to treat them.
Although allergies normally don’t cause serious health issues in children below six years of age, they can still lead to major medical complications in otherwise healthy children if not treated properly. Children suffering from allergies will go through a range of symptoms, including the typical runny nose, itchy eyes, red and itchy skin, rashes, hives, and vomiting. Some symptoms can be serious enough to cause life-threatening situations. If you have children with allergies, you should try to work with a pediatrician as soon as possible so you can identify the problem and find effective ways of treating it.
Children with allergies may also have another set of symptoms. Some of these symptoms can be similar to what adults experience. For example, itchy eyes, a running nose, sneezing, coughing, wheezing, and clogged sinuses can all be symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Children with seasonal allergies will usually experience symptoms similar to those found in adults. They may have trouble breathing, have a hard time sleeping, sneeze frequently, cry more often, and have trouble concentrating. Children with seasonal allergies also may experience cold hands and feet, hay fever-like symptoms and a generally scratchy, itchy feeling on their hands and feet.
The best way to diagnose allergies is to start when the child is young. This allows for proper diagnosis and the right medication. While most children with allergies show no signs of symptoms in the very beginning, these children could be allergic to something that later causes an allergic reaction. It also takes time for the body to develop an immune system that can be affected by foreign substances and cause an allergic reaction. A simple allergy test can be conducted first to find out if a child is allergic to something.
Some children who have allergies react to the same substances and have similar reactions. One of the most common allergies in children is mold, dust, and pollen. For these types of allergies, parents need to take extra measures to make sure that children stay away from mold, dust, and pollen if they live in a house that has these materials present. It can be extremely difficult to remove all traces of these allergens, so it is advisable to limit the amount of exposure a child has to these materials to minimize the chances of them reacting to them.
Children with bee sting allergy will usually exhibit symptoms like hives, swelling, rashes, and in some cases, asthma. Although not all children with bee stings will exhibit symptoms, this is another possible allergic reaction. Children may also be diagnosed with eczema because of their reactions to the substance. Children with allergic rhinitis will also exhibit symptoms similar to those of bee stings, including skin irritation and swelling.
If a child is diagnosed with allergies, then it’s time to bring in a pediatric allergist to assist you and your child. These doctors are highly trained and skilled at diagnosing allergies, and will give your child the appropriate medications needed to manage their symptoms. If there is an existing condition such as asthma, then these professionals can prescribe medications to help your child breathe easier when exposed to these triggers. If your child has a peanut allergy, then a special inhaler can be prescribed to relieve the symptoms immediately. Be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully for the correct dosage and use.
Your pediatrician will also recommend immunotherapy to bring your child’s immune system back into shape. Immunotherapy is sometimes administered along with conventional allergy tests in order to achieve the best results. Your child will begin to feel better immediately after immunotherapy is given, but you’ll need to keep your eye on the doctor’s closely in order to prevent a relapse of your child’s allergies.

Expert reveals 9 simple ways to reduce allergens in the home
Spring has sprung and while for the majority it’s a glorious time, for one in five Brits it marks the start of allergy season.
Pollen isn’t the only allergen that can set off hay fever, indoor allergens such as dust mites, dead skin and animal fur can cause an allergic response too. As a result, cleaning dust from your home can help relieve symptoms and make the spring and summer months more bearable.
There are simple cleaning tips things we can do to reduce the levels of allergens in the home.

‘Hay fever season is well under way and is a time of trepidation for those who suffer from allergies,’ explains Lisa Evans, spokesperson from MyJobQuote.
‘Studies have shown that over half of the indoor dust that accumulates in our home is actually produced outside and brought in with us.’
Lisa reveals her top tips on how sufferers can reduce the severity of their allergies at home during hay fever season.
How to reduce allergens in the home

1. Use an air purifier
‘An air purifier is one of the best places to begin with dust prevention,’ says Lisa. ‘Using an air purifier in your home, which is specially designed to remove dust and airborne particles, will reduce the amount of dust produced.’
2. Vacuum more often
If your home consists of mostly carpets, be wary of dust gathering between the fibres. Lisa explains: ‘Vacuuming regularly can dislodge any dust from your flooring and avoids any dust build-up. Changing carpets to hard flooring can be a great help in stopping dust collection too.’

If you have laminate, tile or wooden flooring, mopping or steaming them regularly is a must to get rid of that dust.
‘We would suggest using warm water with a splash of vinegar to mop efficiently!’ Lisa tells us. Only a small amount mind, the last thing you want are chip shop smelling floors!
4. Choose non-toxic cleaning products
‘Toxic cleaning products create airborne particles that encourage dust,’ Lisa explains. Check the labels when buying cleaning products, to ensure they’re non-toxic to avoid them adding any irritants to your household chores.

5. Clean out the clutter
Piles of clutter are a hot spot for dust accumulation! Ridding your home of clutter will make it far easier to create a dust-free living environment. ‘If you don’t need it, get rid of it! Donate items to charity or take a trip to the skip.’
6. Seal the Gaps

Minimise any unwelcome particles entering your home by sealing gaps. These can be found on windows and doors. Sealing them correctly can help prevent dust from appearing.
Lisa goes on to say, ‘Any cracks in walls and ceilings also need to be filled in order to reduce the likelihood of dust building up’.
7. Keep dirt out
Keeping out debris from outside is near on impossible – but you can help to reduce it. ‘Placing good quality doormats down and taking off your shoes when you enter your home will limit the amount of dirt brought in’ she explains.
8. Wash bed sheets regularly
‘Bed linen is a prime nesting place for dust and dust mites. Ensure to clean your sheets at least once a week to get rid of any unwanted critters and dust.’

What you need to know about controlling your Allergies and Hay Fever Symptoms
Hay fever is a seasonal condition and many individuals in the United Kingdom experience discomfort with hay fever-like symptoms all year round, while others have only struggled with symptoms during summer times. At times, this condition is also referred to as seasonal allergic rhinitis.
Individuals that suffer from hay fever are allergic to spores and pollen.
Pollen is a small, dust-like particle that is shed by specific flowers, weeds, and grasses, whilst spores derive from moulds and fungi.
People who experience hay fever symptoms throughout the year are referred to have a medical condition called perennial rhinitis. The latter is caused by allergens from certain food substances, feathery or furry animals, as well as house dust mites.
If you are inflicted with an allergy, your body responds when you are subjected to specific allergens.
Once they get into your eyes, you inhale them, they aggravate the sensitive linings of your eyes, throat, and nose. This triggers the symptoms of perennial rhinitis or hay fever to appear.
Whether you have perennial rhinitis or allergic rhinitis, there are two methods of how you can control your symptoms. Firstly, try to stay clear of the allergies that influence your symptoms to flare. Secondly, since it is nearly impossible to avoid allergens completely, take effective antihistamine medication such as fexofenadine. It is classed as non-drowsy and is usually prescribed for those people that haven’t responded well to other over the counter medicines such as Piriton, Cetirine, and Loratadine. Fexofenadine is a convenient once-daily dose and works throughout the whole day to prevent symptoms.
It is worth noting that there is no cure for perennial rhinitis or allergic rhinitis, but in the majority of cases, symptoms can be controlled efficiently with medication. There are several safe and trusted treatments available in the United Kingdom for allergens and hay fever. For some treatment such as Fexofenadine, you will need a prescription for your GP or registered online pharmacist, other antihistamine medications can be purchased over the counter without the need of a prescription. Talk to your pharmacists, nurse, or GP and they will assist you to obtain the best treatment suitable for your health requirements.
Antihistamines offer fast relief for symptoms such as itchy throats, watery eyes, itchiness, runny nose, or sneezing. These medications work by blocking many of the effects of histamine – a specific chemical that is released by the body during an allergic reaction.
It is always best to talk to your GP, pharmacist, or nurse about the best treatments to take.
These healthcare professionals are skilled and know what treatment best suits you. If you are suffering from hay fever, it is recommended that you take precautionary treatment as well.
A lot of times, the best way to regulate symptoms is to use preventer drops or nasal spray along with an antihistamine tablet such as Fexofenadine.
By using anti-allergy eye drops can also benefit you, if your eyes are affected.
Many individuals have discovered that complementary therapies often help to relieve the symptoms caused by allergens or hay fever. But, then again, there are very few studies available that support this claim when used on their own without antihistamine medication such as Fexofenadine or over the countertop medicine. If you want to see for yourself if these complementary treatments can soothe your symptoms, then discuss this with your GP, pharmacist or health worker and continue to take your regular medications, nasal spray and drops.
