It still kills me how much Annie really did care for her classmates. It was probably the first time in her life she felt a bond with those around her; like a normal person. She really did love them. Especially Eren, Armin, Connie, Mina, and Marco. She got on with them the most. She felt a strong sense of kinship with Mikasa, even though it also had them at odds with each other. I do love the lost girl chapters. I love that she was also essentially punished for saving Connie's life by having to partake in taking Marco's. She did not hesitate to butcher the survey corp members, but when it came to her former classmates she couldn't / hesitated every time. And also rip Jean, as he was the only person she was like ... fuck it okay- to killing. Armin? Spared so many times that it fucked her over in the end. Mikasa? She had the opportunity to kill her when she was downed the second time, and instead just ran off. Eren? She was happy to be taking him alive. After their friends death, she was the one who kept persisting to go home. But this was also something Annie was forcibly trained for her entire life, and it left her numb and cold.
