Is kagepro an anime? I wanna get into the series but I don’t know where to start (and honestly all i know about it is the stuff that you post, shout out to that white hair malewife and black hair girlboss you always post about)

What is kagerou project, should i get into it, how do i get into it?........... let me tell you about it!

originally? it started as vocaloid series, as in a story told thrusongs, then it had a manga adaptation, anime and novels. they all vary a lil bit with consistency tho tell the same story. and that is because… each media represents a “route” the characters go through. yep. it’s a “time reset” kinda story! kagepro its what i like to call a clump story. just a bunch of stories put together. u take longer delving into each character's backstory rather than the actual main plot ig?? like, knowing everyone's backgrounds Builds the present story. it is difficult to explain 1 thing without explaining another and so on..

if you want to start somewhere I recommend listening to the songs in order, many have very cool music videos also the songs are VERY VERY GOOD.

the manga i recommend up until volume 4 chapter 18. after that it gets TOO confusing because it goes into a route thats only explored in this adaptation, while its kinda important if u REALLY wanna jump into the world of kagepro, it is VERY VERY confusing at first, like a LOT happens and differs significantly from the regular routes(and as an old fan i really was not into it that much but that’s aside the point) but the manga in the first 4 volumes at least puts the beginning more in perspective

and only then id recommend watching the anime cuz without all this the anime is VERY confusing lol the novels are good but theyre wholeass BOOKS yknow. there are 8 so it is not beginner friendly if u rly dont wanna tap into it lol even some seasoned fans haven't read them. that’s my casual kagepro fan guide. but.....

but if in the end u rly become interested and u end up reading them... hey, ur here already, and i know i told u not to finish the manga but if u just read 8 light novels i guess ur ok with reading 9 more volumes of manga!!!! and then... i’d watch the anime? because the anime, believe it or not, as shitty and as ugly as it is... possesses the GOOD ending. and bc u read 8 novels, 13 manga volumes and listened to like 5 song albums, u can watch and actually know what’s going on and u are very happy at the end bc after ALL THAT u get to see the good ending.

BY THE WAY AS FOR THE PLOT... as i said, a clump story. kagerou project isn't only difficult to understand when it comes to all its different medias, the story ITSELF is as convoluted as it comes! hurray! but the basics is, shintaro kisaragi is a shut in ever since his hs best friend ayano tateyama committed suicide. he goes out for the first time in 2 years and runs into some funny quirky people who might've been involved in ayano's life, who in return was involved in fun quirky sci-fi shit about..wow? superpowers?! maybe her suicide wasnt driven by depression but by....(SPOILER CUT)? or was it? join shintaros man angst as he learns about everything ayano left behind! you'll cry! its a REALLY sad story! with lovely characters such as:

kido kano and seto! ayano's little siblings! kido is the leader. of what? good question! kano is gay and hates shintaros guts. seto? he has jobs and better things to do. he likes dogs.

momo! shintaros little sister! she is.. a famous idol?! and... DEPRESSED?!

mary! token cute character who is...relevant to the plot!? and even...A PLOT POINT!?!

hibiya! a 12 year old who ended up here for some reason! also equally as important depending on the route, his best friend hiyori! dont worry about it. 

konoha! we dont know who this guy is. well. we do. but thats a spoiler so dont tell!!!!

and of course our lovely deuteragonist, ene!! the funny little AI living in shintaros phone who TOTALLY didnt use to be human and has a sob story of her own and totally isnt related to the mystery of konohas existence. kagepro!! call now!! ITS AWFUL IN HERE!

First off, thank you so much for this ask! I love Kagepro and since August 15th is tomorrow I gotta kick that celebration off early. 

📝 favorite lyric/s:

I’m currently torn between “Lost Time Memory” (cause I’m basic) and “Remind Blue”’s lyrics. From “Lost Time Memory”, I’ll be citing Jubyphonic’s translation since it’s a little clearer:

Cry to god, a boy, no stronger

And in those days he stood, no falter

A summer smile I won’t remember

No, it stays the same forever

And as for “Remind Blue”, this is Will Stetson’s take on the final chorus:

The darkened haze, your laughing face, and now the time you leave me

Jin is not doubt a master musician, to the point that even his old songs still surprise me. I was listening to Jinzou Enemy again yesterday and just noticed how similar the build ups of the final verses before the chorus are, and almost cried by how overwhelmed I was. It was even really a leitmotif, it’s just his style and the way he is able to get emotion even through a Vocaloid as he has them desperately speed up before they deliver the solid message of the chorus. These lyrics too, I’ve always found them to the be the ones that get the most core part of Shintarou’s character, and the Kagerou Project’s story through. If I had to pick a third option to though, it would be something near the end of Ayano’s Theory of Happiness.

📕 favorite retelling of Azami’s story:

Surprisingly, I felt like MCA did a great job showing Azami’s story. Maybe it was a little rushed when we got to the episode actually dedicated to her and Shion, but it was a very clear depiction. I loved the paper cutout/stained glass art they used for each episode ending dedicated to her wandering the world. As much as the manga and novels were more indepth about her creation and such, it was a nice touch the story book feel of the animation.

💔 3 things you hate about it:  

Kagerou Project and groundhog day stories in general have a very interesting premise. You can repeat a story multiple times and explore new routes and character motivations and still have them start over again and do it again. You never really have to let the story “end”, really. The cool thing about Kagerou Project, and one of the things about it that inspired me in my own writing from it, was how it essentially used the time loop to do a video game style “bad end”, “good end”, and “true end” in literature and animation. However, I think Jin truly didn’t know when to stop with this. I liked the fact that each medium of the story conveyed a different route, but it left things messy, especially in the manga’s case, and a lot of the time it felt like we still never got the whole picture. I know the songs are the backbone and the plot outline/story beats and the novels are the end all be all, but the manga bugged me because while it gave us two very interesting bad ends, it still feels like we didn’t get the victory we deserved. Across all the mediums, I feel like Jin and the production team (because I don’t blame Jin solely for the issues MCA had) I felt like we should have seen more routes, or at least maybe the same core routes with a few changes. Like how “in a day’s” has Konoha involved in the hostage situation, that’s just brushed over in the manga, I think the series would be more enjoyable if one of the more visual mediums had done multiple runthroughs and went into depth about Route XX, the bad end, and eventually all ending with Summertime Record’s truth.

Secondly, the anime is a hot mess. We all knew that, and even though it made me cry because I loved seeing the culmination of Jin’s work, I really disliked it. Similarly to above, I wish it had at least 2 cours so we could have explored the routes more. I liked that we started the series with Ayano talking to Shintarou in the Daze, but when adapting Kagepro, I think starting more in medias res (say show quick flashes of Outer Science?) would work better and help draw the audience in. Establish early on that something bad is coming, time is looping, something. The third thing I really hate is that the anime just sort of threw the songs in there instead of taking the time to tell the story. It was a nice touch, but making a bunch of glorified music videos took away from the story and the plot development, and we already had good music videos already. In Lost Time Memory, hell, they reused clips from the original PV and the manga in the credits. And with the way Ayano’s Theory of Happiness worked out, even in the blu-ray version, I just felt like it was cringey. 

👖 if you had to wear one character’s clothes for a month, who would you pick:

Momo, specifically, her idol outfit. I’ve already made it for a cosplay once and love big dresses and being flashy, so why not?

🙋 if you could meet 3 kagepro characters who would you pick and what would you do together:

This is hard but, probably Shintarou, Hibiya, and Konoha. I really want to give the whole cast a hug and just comfort them after what they went through, but in the case of Konoha, the moment he turned into Kuroha I would not hesitate and destroy him before he could touch the Dan.

CONCLUSIONS re: Kagepro Ages issue + Hibi+Hiyo’s Ages

- in 2012 (May) Konoha’s State of the World TV screens  Hibiya Amamiya was “11″: (ALONG WITH) Hiyori, who canonically has ALWAYS had the “March” birthday, as soon as she was introduced with a birthday alongside Hibiya. which would place her on the YOUNGER END of their shared school year going by the Japanese school system* * THE JAPANESE SCHOOL SYSTEM * BEGINS IN APRIL (APRIL 1ST-2ND) * AND ENDS IN LATE MARCH. * HIYORI’S BIRTHDAY IS MARCH 3RD, * EARLY MARCH. * I.E. BEFORE THE SCHOOL YEAR FINISHES. order of Japanese school year w/this all in mind: April - Japanese school year begins -> August 14th-15th - main series canon happens -> November 4th - Hibiya’s birthday / he ages to 12 -> New Years - happens, YEAR CHANGES TO THE NEXT YEAR -> February 14th - Momo’s birthday / she ages chronologically to 16 from 15 -> March 3rd - Hiyori’s birthday / she ages (FINALLY) to 12 -> end of March - school year ends. ->

...because there is this one thing I heard from one of the MCA staffs considering this complicated age setting but yeah I can’t really share that here….  “

Random theory but what if the manga route is actually going to show us how Shintaro's eye ability came to be created? The way Mary talks about how their future won't get replaced makes me think that she is going to reload, but she will also do something that will let them achieve a happy ending all together, like the one from MCA. I gotta say I haven't kept up with the manga all that well so I'm not sure if it has been shown that Shintaro already has his power or not

It miiiiiiiiiiiight show more detail how it was created? And I hope so too since by possess of elimination...we had flashbacks from...

Kido and Hibiya didn’t have one before they died. Momo had a small mini one with Shintaro when she was young and around the time she got her Eyes (but this happened after she died and this is Shintaro remembering). Hiyori doesn’t have one yet still.

Shintaro, arguably, may had a flashback in Lost Days/Daze since it tells on how he became a shut in, however those chapters were more Konoha/Haruka centric. So we’ll say he didn’t have a proper flashback centered on him while he lives. 

Also, in MCA, they just glossed over how he got his Eyes quickly by having Retaining Eyes explain he had those Eyes since Route XX/the very first Route, showing how Mary passed it to Shintaro. And that was...rushed? Like Shintaro was a very anti-social person and he only got to talk to the Gang properly (especially in Route 1 in LTM) after he got the Eyes that allowed him to subconsciously recall things and be nicer to other’s from past experience in past Routes. So at the very beginning...why did Shintaro accept Mary’s request to remember the Tragedies to take those Eyes?

Also also! Yeah, why did Retaining Eyes get created? I do have a theory on how it came to be, and that’s along the lines of because Mary wants to remember her friends forever, Retaining Eyes got created after everyone died because of Clearing Eyes and she became the Queen. And that’s just around the same time Shintaro commited suicide in Route XX/first Route and allowed him to meet Mary and get it, as his wish to always remember Ayano allows Retaining Eyes to work with him.

But still! More backstory on how Shintaro got his Eyes would be nice!

But also sadly, I’m afraid Manga Route is not a Happy End, because Manga Route (2) happens before Novel Route, so a Reset (or Reload as I like to call it) have to happen. It actually goes like this I believe...

Song Route > Manga Route > Manga Route 2 (current manga plot) > Novel Route

And I think MCA happens in the middle, according to Jin...

But Jin, let us see Shintaro’s story on getting his Eyes or do something cool with it? Please?

Summary:  His Eyes had taken away his very rare, once-a-year only escape from this cruel world. But is that all really it?

For as long as little Kousuke could remember, birthdays meant receiving bigger portions of the food rations, getting prioritized for adoption, and most of all, everyone suddenly becoming kind to him. Then it’d be back to the cruel reality of him being too small, helpless, and weak right at the next day. Where him getting bullied, laughed at, and isolated was a normal routine.

However, it had actually been quite nice to revel in this momentary special treatment. At least, for once a year, he’d get a break from the unfairness and misery he’d been forced to live with despite his young age.But for the previous year, he’d started hearing voices. People’s real voices that tell him words that don’t usually match the ones they speak out loud. It was terrifying, traumatizing. And worse, he couldn’t help it.

And so, as the clock ticked towards the first hour of his seventh birthday, he’d feared the things he’d hear. It had already been bad enough to have to suffer through their countless mean thoughts directed at him every day. But tomorrow, the only day he’d looked forward to each year, would just be the worst. This ability he had gained cannot give him freedom from the harsh world anymore.

If only Hanako, his trusty dog best friend, had still been with him, he’d be okay. He’d been certain its thoughts only meant to comfort him like usual. And that alone would’ve been the perfect gift. But he had also known that would not be possible anymore.

Kousuke had felt the bed shift suddenly, the springs too noisy in the dark. He had turned around and saw the boy from the top bunk climbing down to sit on his bed. “Shuuya?”

“Hey. You’re crying again, huh?” The blonde boy had smiled wryly down at him.

“I’m sorry.” He had sat up as well. “Am I keeping you up?”

“Nah, it’s alright.” Shuuya had grinned. “You’d get a pass for everything in a few hours anyway, birthday boy.”

He had looked away. “A-ah, yeah, I guess.”

“Hmm?” The other boy had peered at him. “Why the long face? Ah, are you afraid of getting adopted?”

He had shaken his head fiercely. “No, I don’t think that would be a problem. No one wants a monster, so I’m sure I’d be safe.” Kousuke had tried smiling then. “Besides, no one gets adopted first, right? That was the promise. Tsubomi did quite well on her birthday two months ago.”

“Ah, yes. So,” Shuuya had winked, “not to pressure you or anything, but my friend, the pressure’s on you.”

“Huh?”

Shuuya had only chuckled. “Never mind that. I’m sure you’d do a great job displeasing those clients tomorrow.”

Kousuke had frowned. “I already displease everyone.”

Shuuya had stopped smiling then. “No, Kousuke, not… everyone.”

“Everyone!” he had repeated quite forcefully. “Even you and Tsubomi think I’m annoying!”

That had shut Shuuya up. Or rather, the boy didn’t have the heart to say anything more in his defense as Kousuke had begun to cry.

“I… I just want this to stop!” he had struggled to say in between sniffles, hands moving to cover his ears. “I’m sick of everyone lying to me! Especially tomorrow! Tomorrow would be the one day each year when everybody would act like they like me. Even if it’s just for a day, I’m happy with that. But now… now, it will never be the same again! Because I’d still hear what they really think of me – that they hate me, that they’re disgusted with me!” Kousuke had ended up curling into a ball and rocking himself back and forth until he calmed down.

It had been a long moment of nothing but his soft cries, so it was a surprise to feel the other boy’s presence still beside him.

He had looked up. “Y-you’re still here…?”

“Of course! I am your friend! Tsubomi and I are!” Shuuya had grinned again. “Even if you… well, do get on some people’s nerves at times, we will stay, because we’re your friends! And friends don’t usually give up on each other that easily, right? So just think: tomorrow, you may hear all sorts of mean stuff even if they give you their biggest smiles, but know that you’d also be hearing from at least two sincere kids. And that would be me and Tsu—“

“Quiet down, you two!” they had heard an older kid grumble from the opposite side of that room they shared with the other boys. “We’re trying to sleep here!”

Shuuya had only snickered before he patted a startled Kousuke’s head. “It’ll be okay. Cheer up! It’s supposed to be a happy birthday, right? And like I said, you’ve got us. So don’t worry.”

You’ve got us.

Kousuke had taken note of that phrase that resonated in his head as he laid back down. It had allowed him to survive his birthday that year, and the years after that, eventually learning how to control his power. True enough, he hadn’t been alone in achieving that.

You’ve got us.

As time passed, he’d also found out that anyone – classmates, teachers, coworkers, bosses, strangers – can think badly of you, intentionally or not, no matter how much kindness you show them. But by the end of the day, he’s got people he could count on to give him the truest smiles and the sincerest words of appreciation. Shuuya and Tsubomi, then the Tateyamas, and then Marry.

And this year, the even bigger set of friends he found waiting for him just as he opened their apartment door when he went home from work that day.

“Happy Birthday!” he was greeted in chorus.

Seto’s eyes widened. He’d kind of expected a little celebration (he’d been accidentally overhearing Marry and Momo’s plans since last week), but how the base turned out to look surprised him.

Because it seemed like his friends did some kind of big art project. Paint stains on the carpet he’s sure Kido had gotten mad at, Happy Birthday cutouts hanging from the center of the room, quite uneven streamers strewn across the walls, and a bunch of Post-its on the one right nearby. When he took a closer look, they were short notes signed by the Dan for him.

“Wow!” He looked back at his friends gathered in the middle of the living room. “T-thanks, everyone.”

“Sorry for the lack of artistry,” Momo said sheepishly. “We didn’t want to spend your money.”

“After all,” Ene piped in, “you’re the most responsible almost-adult here! Right, Master?”“Yeah, sure,” Shintaro deadpanned.

Seto smiled as he scratched the back of his head. “Oh, uh, thanks again, then?”

“But we did spend some— “

“Oh, shush you!” Momo interrupted Hibiya.

Kano laughed. “Oh, come on, there’s no point in keeping it a secret.”

He suddenly noticed the little medusa do the slightest twitch.

“You seriously said something like that, huh?” Kido raised an eyebrow at the blonde. “Though, you have a point. See that cake, Seto?”

Seto glanced at the dining table a few distances behind one of the living room couches.

“Uwah, Danchou, so straightforward!” Kano whined. “But yeah, that large, delicious-looking chocolate treat you’d normally see from that bakeshop just across the street,” he described carefully, “actually came from your paycheck.”

“Because I was supposed to help out with baking one,” Kido added, “but unfortunately I was helping the clumsiest person alive.”

Marry, who was standing in between the two, visibly tried to make herself small. “I-i-it was an accident…”

“Oh, come on, you guys! Stop bullying her.” A fond look on his face, Seto approached Marry and pat her head. “It’s okay. I’m sure you only meant well.”

“I just wanted to do something special for Seto,” she murmured. “Because Kano said you’d get tons of gifts from work already. Something about always being employee of the month?”

“And older women coworkers crushing on you,” Kano added.

“W-what?”

Marry glared at the deceiver for a moment before looking back at Seto and pursing her lips. “It looks like he’s right, though.”

Seto turned to the door where Marry had been eyeing the plastic bag he’d set down upon entering, which Konoha was now rummaging through. A few chocolate bars were already at the android’s feet.

“Those notes were just a last-minute idea I asked them to do.” Marry hung her head. “I’m really sorry.”

Today at work, he received pats on the back, unexpected favors, free food, little presents. But then again, he knew not everyone’s sincere. And he didn’t need his Eyes to confirm that. Just the other day, he witnessed some of these same people look at and speak of him maliciously.

“You know what?” Seto gently lifted her chin to properly look at her. “Those messages are actually the best gifts this year. Really, thank you. Believe me, it’s… the thought that counts.”

Seto had to smile again. Suddenly, that old saying had a whole different meaning to him now.

A better Mekakucity Actors

Now, with this post I want to make it very clear that I don’t hate the anime. It’s actually a really nice adaption, but it’s littered with several errors that need to be fixed. 

I want to make it clear that this ‘fix’ of MCA will not be drastically altering the plot in any way, but it will address the issues that I have with it as an adaption and attempting to fix them. 

I’ll start this off with my issues with MCA as an adaption of Kagerou Project:

To begin, the anime is too short. I would have loved for MCA to have been at least 24 episodes: it would have given us enough episodes to focus on each character individually-- However, I understand why it was only twelve episodes. 

The plot skips around too much for my liking. Things overall aren’t very clear, and it took several rewatches to understand certain things. 

The climax was incredibly rushed, being thrown in for the last few minutes of episode twelve. 

Not enough Seto.

The characterization was weak: there needed to be more of the Dan’s family dynamic shown. 

The lack of explanation for the way Hiyori acts. 

Now, here’s how I’d rewrite MCA to fix the issues that I had with it. 

Episode One - Artificial Enemy

The opening scene of the episode should stay as is. The conversation with Yakitsukeru is incredibly important, and gives a sense of mystery as to what is going on with Shintaro. It makes it clear that he’s important, but is incredibly cryptic as to why to avoid spoilers. 

When the dream dissipates, revealing Shintaro in his room? That should be changed from Shintaro sitting on his computer to Shintaro waking peacefully (for once.) Show that the scene was very clearly a dream, and show how much of a mess Shintaro is. 

KEEP SHINTARO IN HIS MOTHER’S HOUSE. DON’T GIVE THIS DEPRESSED SUICIDAL MESS AN APARTMENT OF HIS OWN?? 

Anyways, when Ene notices he’s awake, begin with the banter and teasing between the two of them. Show Shintaro’s annoyance with her,  but also show that they have some sort of friendship. Even if it is based solely around Ene annoying the shit out of him.

Then we bring Shintaro to this computer where he does his thing. Maybe introduce his mother with a sandwich? Yeah, let her bring him a sandwich and a coke. Nagging about how he needs to get off his ass and get a job, probably? Who knows.

Anyways, he starts working on his music and stuff. Ene deletes it, he spills his soda. Make the scene just like it is in the novels and manga. 

From there, keep everything the same.

Episode Two - Kisaragi Attention

Start the episode with Shintaro at the Dan’s base. Keep the beginning scene of Episode 5, maybe? With Ene fucking with Shintaro. 

Cue Mary coming in to Shintaro in his underwear, and then the entire Dan runs in when Mary screams.

Momo gets really concerned, but it more worried about the fact that he brother was grazed by a bullet. Makes him lay back down instead of tying him up.

When he asks for an explanation, cue Momo going into a flashback into a more condenced version of the episode that shows her going to school, talking to Kenjirou, running into Hibiya, etc. Leave out the weird symbolism. 

Maybe leave in her reasoning for becoming an idol, if there’s time. 

Cut off the episode right before she meets Kido. 

Episode Three - Blindfold Code

Continue from where we left off in Kisaragi Attention, and leave the episode more or less the same. 

If anything, I would have loved to see the scene when Kano gets frozen by Mary that we see in the manga and novels. Especially with Seto existing in this. 

Please use Mary’s special cups from her mother!! 

Maybe include the scene where Kido and Kano try to tease Mary, but show Seto stepping in to stand up for her when she starts to get upset. 

OH, AND ALSO THAT CUTE SCENE WHERE MOMO AND MARY TALK BEFORE THEY GO SHOPPING. IT’D BE CUTE AND SHOW HOW QUICKLY MARY WARMS UP TO MOMO!!!

At the end of the episode, go back to the base to end the flashback. 

Episode Four - Kagerou Days

Move Episode 5 to Episode 4. 

Once again, keep the conversation with Yakitsukeru. Make it clear that, once again, it’s a dream.

Remove the filler Yu-Gi-Oh scene. As funny as it is, it’s unneeded and MCA doesn’t need that much filler. 

Indoctrinate Shintaro into the snake cult Dan, just like it already is in the anime. 

Have them start for the amusement park, Shintaro gets pissed and leave the group. Cue him running into Konoha.

He and Konoha find Hibiya and Hiyori, right before the accident. Things happen just like they normally do. 

Show Hibiya and Hiyori’s Haze here, from Konoha’s point of view to easily show off both hazes. Make it more clear which scenes are Hibiya’s Haze and which ones are Hiyori’s. (Because her haze is shown, it’s just hard to notice!) Maybe do a palette swap for Hiyori’s haze, as a callbackto the PV? (Hibiya’s primarily red, Hiyori’s primarily blue to callback to Kagerou and Shiro)

Cut to Shintaro and Seto running into each other, and thenSeto calling the Dan from the hospital. Also show a conversation between those two.

Episode Five - Kaien Panzermast

Place this episode after the accident so there aren’t weirdly timed flashbacks. Introduces Hibiya better, and also introduces the girl (Hiyori) that’s with him.

Start the episode similarly to how it is originally, and then show him coming home to Hiyori sprawled across the couch lazily watching TV. Show the house in a mess. 

The scene with the bow takes place in the living room, not the kitchen. 

When the flashback to Hibiya getting asked to come with her to the city happens, add scenes and dialogue to show off how Hiyori is treated back home. How Hibiya isn’t her only obsessive stalker. 

Maybe imply that they were once friends, too? ( 👀 at that one image from Outer Science)

Introducing Konoha is about the same. 

Dinner is the same, too.

Show how Hibiya and Hiyori got kidnapped!

Replay their death, transition to the Dan going to Ayano’s grave.

Cue Ene recognizing Ayano, end episode.

Episode Six - Headphone Actor

Keep everything the same. Maybe include the shirtless Haruka scene, but that’s all I would change.

Episode 7 - Konoha’s State of the World

Once again, leave this episode the same. 

At the end, after the scene with Haruka in the haze, cut back to Ene and Kano walking. Have him ask Ene if she wants to hear a story, to which she responds ‘yes.’

Episode 8 - Lost Time Memory Ayano’s Theory of Happiness

Make it more clear that it’s being told from Kano’s POV!

Include the scene where Ayaka and Kenjirou decide that they want those three. 

Focus more on their family connections, etc. 

Allude to Kano’s past of being abused, as well as focus on his unhealthy obsession with Ayano. 

Otherwise keep things more or less the same. 

At the end of the Epsiode, cut out of the flashback to show Kano and Ene again. Ene gets her body back, makes mention that she’s worried about Shintaro. 

Episode 9 - Ayano’s Theory of Happiness Lost Time Memory

Keep the same plot as the original LTM episode. 

Episode 10 - Imagination Forest Outer Science

Puella Magi Madoka Magica style this episode!

Show several timelines ending badly, etc. All from Shintaro’s POV.

Finish the episode with Shintaro and Yakitsukeru talking and Shintaro killing himself. 

Episode 11 - Otsukimi Recital Imagination Forest

Keep the episode the same, add scenes to imply that the ending of the episode is Mary reminiscing about how she met Seto?

Episode 12 - Summertime Record Otsukimi Recital

Keep mostly the same.

Rush things a little more so that the Climax can happen all in the next episode. 

End the episode with Konoha breaking through the floor, maybe? 

Episode 13 - Summertime Record

Extend the showdown with the snake. 

Include it being an ass and taunting people, etc. 

Ayano and Shintaro come about halfway through the Episode, kick the snake’s ass. 

Make Konoha’s wish to save Hiyori clearer. 

End the episode by showing some of the aftermath, and everyone coping with the events of that day. Leave it open, but show that they have a lot of recovery to do: and a lot of time to make up for. 

I understand that things still might be a bit confusing, however I didn’t wnat to extend it into a 24-episode anime. While that’s what it should have been, I wanted to keep it as close to the original as I could. Overall, it’s incredibly difficult to fit Kagepro into 12-13 episodes, but I do think that my ideas would have been slightly better than what we ended up with!

lost day hour should’ve been the end of kagepro babey

what is UP it's 2019 i am NOT ONLY talking about kagepro but im also gonna talk about a comic that came out like over half a year ago. Yeah

i've just been having too many feelings about it and it's my blog and i get to post whatever i want SO:

the lost day hour comic really was what would've been the perfect end to kagepro. like, kagepro in its entirety!!! songs, anime, novels. the comic just being THE ending.

haruka was the protagonist. in the songs, the "last" one (at least chronologically in universe) was from his point of view, but despite that the novels and anime did him dirty and never gave him his screen time, even outside of str. i mean even str isn't actually about him lol. haruka was never important enough, he's just the devise to make konoha tragic. but this time, it's post/during str and he's here!!!! he's the protagonist of the story!!!!

all the members of the mekakushi dan feel SO in character and everything they say really feels like a good resolution to all of their arcs.

kido speaks of family. she's really THE family character, not ayano. she makes sure to be the next big sister after having lost TWO (2) of her own big sisters. kido is the character to have lost the most family members: first her biological mom, after having to kill her own father lol she loses rin, then her new mom ayaka and her new sister ayano, and then her new dad kenjirou. even like that, kido keeps it together. she's never the one breaking down. kido is essentially what makes the mekakushi dan what it is, because she takes ayano's game and turns it into something seto and kano can continue feeling that comfort in. she takes over to be the leader and their big sister. SO OF COURSE SHE SAYS THAT FRIENDS ARE HER FAMILY. 

kano says confusing stuff but that's just him and i. Love it. like when i read the comic and i was talking to my gf about it and the first thing i said was that i loved kano's bit and that he felt super in character and i still feel the same!!! he gets asked what a friend is and his answer is basically "whoever makes ME feel like im a friend" and really that's just The Most Kano.... and it's so rewarding to read his part because it feels like he's being super honest? like his expressions and stuff, he looks like. vulnerable or smth. especially when he says "i say good things sometimes" AHHH HIS FACE THERE!!! he's not acting at all!!!

seto and mary work in A FLOWER SHOP!!!! THIS IS CANON!!!! no more shitty part time jobs because they either got a job together or opened their own shop and this is. the best news ever. it's SUCH a cool thing to show. if this comic was the end, wouldn't it be cute to say "oh seto and mary open a flower shop together in endgame"? i love it. they're so important to each other's arc... mary basically starting to live her life after meeting seto, and seto becoming this!!! BRAVE BOY after meeting mary since he has someone to protect!! their answers are based on each other and ARE THE SAME which feels so appropriate ;_; they really did change for the better after meeting each other. they're one another's most important friend!

momo says friends are the most important thing because she spent her entire life by herself. no brother no dad and no mom. hibiya acts like she's exaggerating when she says that but tbh??? she really isn't. she was always alone! of course that now that she has friends, they're her entire world to her. hibiya meanwhile is like momo: he's still figuring out what a friend is! but he chooses to be more skeptical and looks at it from another angle, and rather than HELL YEAH MY FRIENDS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT he's like "dammit harukas right wtf is a friend". but that's super cool because at the beginning hibiya didn't even want to be with the dan in this comic he specifically tells momo he just wouldn't be there if he didn't want to be friends

hiyori is. probably my least favorite thing of the comic. i absolutely adore her it's not that i dislike her at all!!! she just... appears for such a short moment, and based on her story and the fact that she's A REVIVED character, her answer doesn't really grab my attention. she's confusing and ??? um, i would've liked it better if her answer was somehow connected to konoha because she's still mourning him, and like isn't haruka the (in?)appropriate person to hear this? lol. but overall, if this comic had been the ending, it's still good to see hiyori made it back! 

ayano's bit really makes me want to cry because everything is perfect in it. she made it back. listen an ending where ayano doesn't come back does make sense because kagepro is about moving on and with ayano surviving shintaro's manpain makes NO sense lmao bUT HEY. SHE DESERVES IT. so she's back! and she's wearing that cute dress and she has her scarf! she's on the SWING SETS WITH HARUKA and i know that's such a silly detail but im so happy about it because it feels so right to have haruka and ayano's interaction be in a place like that KSNXKSKSK and aghhhh how she asks the question back to haruka!!!!! that's so cool lmao and it's so in character ;; but also her answer is sooo fitting, she even says "the current me" like acknowledging she's not the same she was before. since she's a chara with mental illness that's nice to hear... and another cool detail is that we see her drinking soda with shintaro while they watch the others be silly SKDNSLDK like if this were the end, that's SUCH a nice detail to put since the comic doesn't require shintaro and ayano interaction at all, and both are important characters to the story and each other. so they're clearly hanging out and talking to each other so that's really good to know

shin and haruka are probably my favorite in this comic because their interaction is the most fitting thing considering their entire history together. like ever since their friendship was introduced in novel 6 it's been something important! shintaro and haruka really represent the side of friendship in kagepro because overall it's a story about family, and their relationship always represented this other angle of finding family in a best friend. in novel 6 haruka says that if shintaro isn't his friend by now then he doesn't NEED any friends. he's the reason haruka even realises he has feelings for takane, because it felt so right to call shintaro a friend but it felt off with her. neither haruka or shintaro ever had friends because takane and ayano are their love interests, so it's their first genuine platonic relationship ever. and they just continue appreciating that always! even in their interaction in the comic shin expresses that he's still not sure what a friend is, but if haruka is one he just wants to keep it that way. so their talk in the comic is fitting and it's super nice to see shintaro gets to reunite with his best friend.

ok and........takane...... everything about takane in the comic is good. she is SO cheerful. all of you DUMBASSES who "hate" ene but "love" takane can die mad about it now because newsflash ene IS takane. if you hate ene then you dislike takane when she begins her character development. it means you hate endgame takane. it means you hate the happy takane in lost day hour!!! she has come SO far. she smiles so much and encourages haruka when he was overthinking and didn't know what to draw. she just tells him the answer is easy and friendship is the mekakushi dan. SHE'S PERFECT have you seen how INCREDIBLY HAPPY SHE LOOKS?? no one else has this impact of character in the comic, everyone kind of acts the same in regards of attitude (except kano who looks v honest and over himself but still). in the fandom we always took it for granted that endgame takane is more cheerful than she was but lost day hour just. confirms it and it's done in the best way possible.

ok and of course im talking about harutaka too because 1) im biased and 2) harutaka IS the love story of kagepro and that's not bc im biased anymore, it just is. and it never had a good resolution... until this!!!!

haruka asks everyone what a friend is but doesn't ask takane. like really he didnt want to ask her in the first place because when shin asks who's left to ask harukas like "uHHHH one person but..." and like he doesn't just imply he wasn't going to ask her, but his interaction with her is soooo different from the ones he has with the dan earlier. with everyone else he just asks what a friend is but with takane he actually... doesn't? wh. why wouldn't he ask her im just. ok.

haruka in the beginning tells kido to think of it as an interview and essentially that's the feeling there is in each interaction but with takane it's different. he's not interviewing her. 

she shows up and sits next to him while he's trying to draw. they talk about WHY he's asking and about what he wants to do with his future. during the entire comic haruka is normal and friendly, and doesn't really act any differently, but with takane he seems a lot less formal and does things like allow himself to talk or get embarrassed when she immediately figures out he heard too much and didn't know what to draw.

their love story was always just left there as this tragic thing and as a fandom we always wanted their tearful reunion in the ending, but this is better. we finally know they actually do reunite. we always knew because in str takane is running towards him but this is... an actual interaction we're seeing 

they didn't only reunite, but we get to see they still have a close and comfortable relationship with one another. out of everyone haruka speaks with, takane is special. when his face appears for the first time in the comic it's a smile for her

and um, it may be because it's my otp and i've been waiting for this str content for YEARS and you know harutaka is my lifeblood 😩😩😩 but i believe it's already established to be more than a friendship at that point. i mean haruka wasn't going to ask her so jUSt saying man im not saying they're a established couple there im SAYING i think they're Something. i mean like haruka always said in novel 6, it felt weird to put takane in the friend category so in str it's the same, just very Obvious

BUT that's exactly why it'd be a good ending. it's up to interpretation. little things like that ARE fun and good to simply allow them to be heavily implied. just like with their jobs. because okay haruka wants to be an artist, hell yeah that's a cool thing to have as canon. BUT i think it's cool that just one character gets a canon detail of his future, the one who represents what growing up means. HARUKA of all characters, the one who for a long time thought he wasn't even gonna have the chance to grow up, which is why it's incredibly fitting that he's the one to represent this.

kagepro might be a mess and just a pain to be a fan of, but it's really a heartwarming and wonderful story about friends, family and love. this comic covers all of that. while they're answering this question, it's a good way to say bye to the characters individually.... and i mean. the comic's ending is literally the most perfect thing ever for a close, with the ENTIRE mekakushi dan having fun together and finally being happy and complete.

of course it's jin's series. they're his characters. we all understand and respect that, and if he wants to make kagepro never end like he claims then so be it but personally!!! it makes me really upset that it's gonna go on
