Sesshomaru’s eyes travel to the herb she was holding, taking note of its appearance to stow the information for possible future reference. Information is tantamount to power in various instances, and one would be remiss to disregard information when readily available to you.
From her scent and her pointed ears, he could tell that the woman before him had some Demon lineage along with her human parentage. In other words, she was a Hanyo. She must have been quite lucky if she could remain unfazed in the presence of a full-blooded Demon.
❝A Demon of this Sesshomaru’s caliber has no need for fear at night.❞
Not to mention that this general vicinity was relatively safe, else humans wouldn’t have settled nearby. Though strong Demons still roamed the lands, there weren’t many who could contest Sesshomaru head to head.
❝Most fear coming to my attention and flee before my presence.❞
He spoke the truth of the matter to educate rather than to pompously prop himself higher on an imaginary pedestal. Though humanoid he may appear, he was in truth a massive Demon canine, and most beasts would think twice before appearing before him. The scent of a predator was not one animals would ignore.
❝What herb is so precious that you come at night to procure it?❞

An important life skill was to accede, when necessary, but to also know when to stand one’s ground. In this situation, acknowledging she’d erred and would learn from his advice was an intelligent move. He nods his head, quite satisfied with her response. It showed her willingness to learn and correct her behavior once noted to be improper.
❝You’re young, and willing to learn. Lessons will come to you naturally. Take the learnings in stride and commit them to daily happenings.❞
In essence, slowly committing lessons to memory and forming habits was the best way to learn than to cram lessons all at once, and haphazardly mangling them. A youth perfectly executing some mannerisms while lacking in some others was more acceptable than one who seemed learned but failed in execution, highlighting their ignorance.
He made no comment about her not knowing an equivalent exchange for her herbs, as he mentally deemed he could decide for himself. Sesshomaru had watched as she’d gotten to work at preparing some herbs, listening to her explanation of how to use them. If Jaken were here, he’d be in charge of learning and committing to memory. For now, Sesshomaru would perform the dull task of learning so he could then instruct Jaken at a later date.
❝Hm, they are useful for travel. Appropriate.❞
A compliment, to be sure, of her considerate thought to procuring herbs that would be useful for a Demon and his companions.
Oh uh right, introduce yourself prior to asking other to identify themselves. Asagi would make sure to the remember that. "Lord Sesshomaru i'll make sure to remember to introduce myself next time properly. This outside world away from Horai island has been a lot to take in and i've learned a lot. But. I suppose manners are still a big thing to learn." Asagi and the other children have learned a lot in the time they've been able to live without constantly being alone and scared.
Ah but that was besides the point. "I don't mind parting with some. And it's alright you don't need to give me anything in return since, i'm not sure what would be equivalent to these herbs." Asagi had plenty to last her for quite a bit and if she ran out she could always come to gather more at a later time.
Asagi quickly went to preparing the herbs for Sesshomaru. Reaching into a small pouch she kept on her side to add a few more. "I'll give you a few different kinds. This one.." She held up a deep green looking plant. "It can be crushed up into a paste to ease painful small wounds. And this one.." She held up another greenish plant with reddish roots. "It can be cut up and put into a broth for colds."

For a medicine to be beneficial to humans, demons, and half-demons alike, it was a useful herb. Some herbs were either useless for Demons or too potent for humans and would kill them, so having a medicine that could be used by both sides of the spectrum was convenient.
He seemed to be pondering on the question that Asagi had asked. He hadn’t anyone who needed it, but there was someone who could benefit from having the medicine should anything come to pass. He was considering having someone, most likely in the form of a green imp to forage for the herb so they can be sent to lady Kaede back at the village. As the caretaker, she could make good use of the herb, and certainly for Rin’s benefit should illness befall her.
❝A generous offer, if you’d be willing to part with some of your herbs. An equivalent exchange can be made so you shan’t lose out.❞
This Sesshomaru does not simply accept handouts in exchange for nothing. It was another story entirely were the woman a retainer of his, and he could accept any items as offerings, but she was just a young woman who had just risked the night to forage for herbs.
At her response, the Daiyoukai believes that she had been mistaken on an account. It mattered little whether she had heard him refer to himself in the third person or not, as he was speaking in generalities. It was proper to introduce oneself before requesting the identity of the other. With introductions, a proper one was to give a name and or a title if applicable.
❝Young Asagi, it is of little consequence if your attention was elsewhere. Simply, introduce yourself prior to asking others to identify themselves, it is only proper manners. This Sesshomaru is the Lord of the Western lands, Son of the Inu no Taisho, Toga.❞
He gave his introduction as he normally would to others who inquire it of him. Whether she knew anything about his background was a small matter. Though, many who knew of Inuyasha would soon learn about his parentage, and they may connect the dots to who his half-brother was.

Asagi just seemed to nod and left the matter of the War Gods and Horai island in the past. Beneficial for both demons and humans. Ah yes! If it wasn't she wouldn't use the medicine she makes if it wasn't for both. "Humans, demons. Half-demons. The medicine I make is for use by all." She replied.
Okay now she was sure that he was curious about the medicine since he seemed to be asking more questions. "The aroma. And the water will turn a golden color to indicate that it has been steeped enough. Is there someone who needs this medicine that you know? I could prepare some of these herbs for you to take."
Even though he had stated his name she had been so absored into getting this herb and speaking about other things that Asagi didn't hear. "S-sorry! Asagi. My name is Asagi. And um I didn't mean any offense I really didn't. I just didn't want to miss the chance to get these herbs tonight so excuse me if I might also be a little tired and not half listening." But she did seem to hear that his name began with a 'S'

The island may have been called thus, and he may have known it at a time, but after having vanquished Kyoura, the unnecessary clutter of information had been expelled from his memory. The name of his ‘foe’ was the only thing that held some semblance of importance as the individual had committed a crime one too many vermin had committed: offend the Daiyoukai.
❝This Sesshomaru defeated one who considered himself a War God. Where he met his death, whether it be on an island or in a human village, it matters little.❞
The point was that the Demon fell quite easily to his power that it was almost anticlimactic. Alas, not everyone had the pleasure of roaming the lands, honing their skill over the decades of waiting for an island to reappear to cull some vermin. Assuming that the supposed War Gods remained on the illusive island all the while, stagnating their skills for warfare, it was only to be expected that Sesshomaru would hold the upper hand in battle.
A shame, that individuals had found themselves under the rule of such a weak ruler. He’d be ashamed of himself if he served such a weak Lord. Though difficult Sesshomaru could be with Jaken, the imp served an exemplary Demon, one to be proud of serving.
Instead of learning more about Horai island, something long since put behind him, he found more interest in medicine. That had more use than some fallen losers who thought too highly of themselves.
❝How does one know the herb has been steeped enough? Surely this herb is beneficial to Demons and humans alike.❞
He hardly would see need for the herb personally, but it would be useful for Rin or Jaken’s sake. Perhaps even Koharu should their paths ever cross again.
At the woman’s comment of heading back to her abode, Sesshomaru acquiesced. Though, he did not answer her question of who he was right away. The proper order of introductions was to name yourself first before asking the name of others.
❝Bold indeed, to request for an identity before naming yourself first.❞
He’d already stated his name a couple of times in conversation already, but that didn’t offer much in ways of his reputation or identity.
@halfdemonasagi
What. Wait, just now. What he said. Had he....been on Horai island when Inuyasha and his friends helped deal with the other three War Gods. Just who was this full-blooded demon. "Sorry if this might be a strange question but, were you on Horai island?" Though she should tread carefully with her words, Asagi was merely curious as the island had been a legend in stories. And if memory served her correctly one of the War Gods wasn't present while the battle was going on. That one being Kyoura.
But maybe she was overthinking it too much. Back to the important matter, this herb. "It can be brewed. But you don't just throw it in hot water and it's ready instantly. It has to steep and to let the medicinal properties properly release. It has a bit of a bitter taste when given to someone but, if it reduces a fever and can make anyone better that's a good thing."
Was he....interested in medicine? Better not to ask such a ridiculous question so Asagi would keep it to herself. This conversation had gone in a different direction from the original comment. "If there is nothing else I should probably head off and get some sleep. But could I be so bold as to ask who you are? Since i'm pretty sure someone like you doesn't always warn people about the dangers of being out so late."

Sesshomaru’s interest waxed and waned like the tides, and he’d soon lost interest in continuing a conversation. He had no relation to this young woman, and seeing her confidence in being able to fend for herself in the later hours of the night, he need not waste his time in ensuring her safety—she didn’t need it, after all.
Of course, just as quickly as it had left, his interest returned upon hearing ‘Four War Gods.’ An ear twitched, a memory coming to the forefront of his mind of a certain fire-wielding Demon who had once dared to mark his back. With how weak the Demon was, severely lacking to be worth his attention, he’d settled for culling the Demon who offended him before he left. Perhaps if the Demon had put up more of a fight, Sesshomaru would have thus decided to hunt the rest of the quad down, but it was of no interest to him at the time.
❝So, someone else had dealt with the other 3 ‘Gods’ as they had the gall to refer to themselves.❞
If they were ‘War Gods’ as they self-proclaimed, Sesshomaru would then be the epitomy of Warfare itself. If a hanyo had survived under the tyranny of the supposed ‘War Gods,’ that was a feat in itself. To a Demon such as himself, it was childsplay, but Hanyo weren’t so gifted. Inuyasha even was an outlier as he had the Tessaiga by his side to protect him. Without it, his ability to survive among Demons would be dim.
Disregarding that for now, his attention came back to the herb. If it were useful with reducing fevers, that would make it a useful medicine that he could send back to Kaede for Rin’s sake.
❝How does one use this herb, do you brew it into a medicine?❞
Should Rin ever decide to live the rest of her life among Demons, it would behoove him to learn what he could to ensure she lived a fruitful life—and for him to relay the information for Jaken to memorize for future reference. It was the job of the imp retainer to recall all the miscellaneous intel that Sesshomaru deem unnecessary for him to be able to spout at a moments notice.
@halfdemonasagi
Asagi did feel intimidated by his presence, as she had thought this would just be a simple retrieval for what she needed. She didn't think there would be any encounters of any kind especially with a full-blooded demon. Hmm so someone of his caliber had no reason to fear the night. Understandable. However Asagi felt confident enough to come here on her own.
Listening when he told her that most fear his coming and flee before his presence she did her best to stand firm. "Well I am not most. I suppose living under the tyranny and fear of four war gods for centuries toughened me up. Along with advice from someone I know." Though it was mostly her putting on a brave front before the other.
When asked about what herb is so precious that she just had to come and get it, Asagi glanced back to the herbs cradled in the crook of her arm. "It's um.....it's...." The name was on the tip of her tongue but it seems like it slipped away at the moment. What was it again. Think.
"The name escapes me right now. I know it's used to reduce fevers, which is why I came to get this herb."
