you can say that casper & nova aren’t meant to Perfectly parallel simon & betty’s relationship and behavior, and maybe that was what the writers intended - that this is a Vaguely Similar dynamic, not the Exact Same one. but in the absence of seeing any truly comparable interactions with simon & betty, or any interactions from when they were actually in a relationship, the casper & nova scenes are basically all we have to go off of for what the episodes are trying to tell us about simon & betty’s relationship, and kind of have to be taken as “accurate to them” whether the writers intended it or not.

#Ugh this already feels like a weirdly phrased oversimplification #bc obviously we have seen simon & betty interactions that give us an idea of what their dynamic is like #But like…. not in F&C (they only really showed stuff from before they started dating)#And nothing actually comparable to any part of the casper & nova situation #Am I making sense this made a lot of sense in my head but #im losing the thread as I try to turn it into words.#Just.#I’ve seen people say ‘well they’re not meant to be EXACTLY like simon and betty’#But while its true that they are; in fact; Not Exactly Like Simon And Betty #The general framing - and the choice to have casper & novas final dilemma #be almost EXACTLY comparable to simon & bettys situation in golb in CAWM #(And also the implication that Astrid made casper & nova based on simons own stories #about himself and betty maybe?)#It comes together to form an impression that they ARE … basically exact parallels.#I think.#basilposting #atposting
