Is Spider-Gwen trans: An analysis

After leaving the theater yesterday for Spiderman: Across The Spiderverse, one thought sat in my mind: could Gwen be trans? This may seem like a reach, but just hear me out.

1. Trans Flags

There are two trans flags that I spotted in the movie, both of them are in Gwen's home. In Gwen's room, a small trans flags with the phrase "Protect trans kids" hangs above her doorway. Now, if Gwen isn't trans, then why would she have a trans flag in her room? Most ally's wouldn't have a trans flag in their room. Maybe someone she's close to is trans? There's only 3 people Gwen has in her life. Her father, her dead best friend, and Miles. There isn't any evidence to suggest that any of them are trans. Especially her dad and Peter, since they didn't have much screen time. The phrase is an important clue too. If she was just an ally, why the phrase "Protect trans kids"? Why not "trans rights are human rights"? That phrase is equally as popular and it's more general. Protect trans kids is personal and usually refers to anti trans legislation that affects minors. Gwen is a minor, so is it really too unbelievable to suggest that she has the flag because she's trans?

The second flag is a patch on Gwen's dad's police jacket. Does this flag mean that her dad is trans? Or, is this a dad wearing a trans flag in support of his daughter?

2. Color theory

This is a weak point, but I'm going to include it anyway. Gwen's world is full of pastels. In fact, in most scenes with Gwen in her dimension, the colors light blue, light pink, and white are in the background. Those are literally the colors of the trans flag

3. Spiderman as a trans allegory.

Now, it's no secret that a lot of trans people like the character/concept of Spiderman. For a long time, I, as a fellow trans person, didn't understand the obsession until seeing this movie. A main theme of this movie, if not Mile's franchise, is that anyone can be Spiderman. Anyone can wear the mask, each Spiderperson is unique. Spiderman isn't really a person, it's a concept, and that's why its so applicable to everyone, regardless of who they are. Spiderman is a good person with a "secret" identity who goes trough struggles and also lives a "double life". And when you look at the story like that, the trans allegory becomes clear. Across the spiderverese is a brilliant movie with an abundance of representation. To black spiderpeople, Indian spiderpeople, disabled spiderpeople, hijabi spiderpeople, even spiderpeople who are cowboys and all sorts of other different variants. If all these different people can be Spiderman at the same time, then who's to say there isn't a trans spider person? And who's to say that person isn't Gwen?

So, is Gwen Stacy trans? I don't know, and I'm not saying she is. But I think it's entirely possible and the fact that it is, the fact that any spiderperson could potentially be queer, is something to be celebrated because it opens more doors for representation.

why does your ship deserve to be considered the most toxic?:

Darling Nikki and Matejka met in 1524, after Nikki's mother's death, and got into a duel- proposed by Matejka- at the price of Nikki's soul. She ended up winning the fight, and was turned into a vampire. They stayed together afterwards due to both being immortal, and have known each other closely since then. The reason why we think they deserve to win is their extreme codependence: Matejka is extremely attached to Nikki, because she looks like his dead wife Esmé, whom he's still in love with. Nikki takes advantage of him and roleplays as Esmé during sex. This unhealthy attachment to Nikki began consuming his life, so they got into a fight and split up for nearly 100 years. This caused the both of them to become incredibly suicidal, as they'd known each other for 4 centuries at this point, and they barely knew how to live without each other. Even missing each other so dearly, their relationship has the tendency to be very unhealthy. Once, Nikki insulted Matejka's dead wife as a joke, and he almost dragged them out to the sun in an attempt to kill them. Another time, she tried to eat Matejka (due to being a cannibal), but thought his black blood was disgusting. They know each other like no one else does, but still have layer of distrust. Nikki doesn't even know Esmé's name. Altogether, their bond is an incredibly complex one due to the nature of their immortality, but their unhealthy overreliance on each other has nearly ruined both their lives.

well firstly - i said this in a previous answer - but i made nightingale during the pandemic and it was the first pirate i had actually stuck with after years of creating and deleting characters. in a post i made i said that playing as swash is like playing the game on hard mode. this is the reason that nightingale is so special to me. its because that save took me FOREVER. it took me two years to finish with so much difficulty. but i did it :D.

i'm really big on story telling so i really put a lot of thought into my character's background, even if some of those details are only in my head lol.

nightingale:

when i was making nightingale i was also playing ac: syndicate, so i had this obsession with victorian england (lol) and that's why i chose marleybone as their world of origin. i chose swashbuckler because i loved the finesse/melee animations of the game. looking back, their world of origin and class really compliment each other. i see a lot of marleybonian officers and what-not with sabres so it makes since to me in that my pirate probably learned fencing by going to classes. its suggested by a badge that the marleybonian-raised pirate knows military discipline, so i like to think my pirate was put into fencing classes - not exactly against their will - but the way most kids are put into soccer when they are small.

as for the colors, i wanted to pick something that was neutral and looked good with the gear and ships. at first i wanted black and white (which is the colors i chose for my pirate's clothes in character creation) but then i didn't like how some shades of white looked kinda pink in-game. so i chose beige instead. i absolutely love this color combo and think i made an excellent choice.

i actually changed the coat of arms on the flag when i was in cool ranch. i had the compass/north star thing with the criss-cross swords but i don't remember why i didn't like it. when i was picking a new one, i just thought the fish looked pretty sick :D.

i have this habit of limiting my worlds of origin to the class i'm going to pick (like i'll only choose witchdoctor if my character is from krokotopia). because again i'm big on story telling and i like things to be very obvious and make sense. but with devereaux i was like "let me switch it up a little. what about an underdog story of a kid from scrimshaw but they are a privateer. they are a natural born leader with hidden talent and potential."

although i wanted to start a new save with devereaux just for the story aspect and for the heck of it, i also realized recently how important side quests are to understanding the lore of the game. i feel i rushed through nightingale really fast because i was so eager to learn more about the main storyline but neglected everything else.

colors: i read this series of poems last year here on tumblr about the colors of the classes that was so beautiful. there's a line in the privateer poem about how the blue in their color scheme is like the blue of the skull island skies and i thought that just fit my pirate so well because they're from scrimshaw. I DONT REMEMBER WHO WROTE THE POEMS IF YOU WROTE THEM AND YOURE READING THIS PLEASE TELL ME SO I CAN GIVE YOU CREDIT. but that's why i chose blue. i tried so many variations of blues tho and colors that complimented them and it was exhausting. i ultimately came up with this color scheme and i think its perfect and exactly what i had imagined. for the coat of arms, i wanted something that looked regal but not too obvious, so i thought the fleur-de-lis was good. devereaux is also a french name so i thought it was a cool nod to irl history.

clothes:

clothes can say a lot about a character. with nightingale, i didn't give their clothes much thought until the very end. i usually just equipped gear that fit in with the theme of the current world so i could get good stats. but when i got to valencia pt.2, i did a clothing stich. i knew that the game was almost over and i probably wasn't going to touch this character for a while so i wanted to give them something that i would enjoy simply looking at. i wanted the clothing to look like an officer's uniform but with a pirate's flare. i went back to marleybone and bought some clothes. their hat is from the bazaar.

with devereaux i plan to do the same thing. i want to stich "great coat" with something that has high armor once i get to aquila or marleybone (whichever comes first i cant remember). but for the time being, i want them to looked at pirate-y as i can make them lol.

Being tested for HIV (and other blood-borne viruses, like Hepatitis C) is the first step in AIDS prevention. You should get tested if you're having sex right now, if you've had sex, or if you think maybe you might have sex. You should also get tested if you've used syringes for substance use, are using syringes, or might use syringes for substance use, or are partners with someone that does. You can also acquire HIV from shared piercing and tattoo needles.

You should know YOUR status, even if you don't know your partner's status. Some testing centers offer couple's testing - but make sure that option is one that you feel safe and comfortable doing.

Not a complaint, as such, but I wish there was more of a non-Western/colonial bit of theorizing around stuff in fandom.

It takes place in the Caribbean! We have an Indigenous lead and Black crew! We have a multi-racial/ethnic writer's room!

I am B A F F L E D that a fandom that can research forks, cravats and cakes don't make the effort to look into other interpretations of stuff.

Like, WHY is Oluwande so shocked by the racism he encountered at the French party? WHY is he the only Black crew member with a full, non-Europranized name? WHY was he received the way he was by the Indigenous tribe? I have only seen references in fic about his background connected to slavery or being on a plantation and it doesn't fit! He's more likely to be a Maroon than anything else, but it never comes up.

Frenchie is a clever rascal who was in service, has unusual beliefs and is decidedly uninvolved with Catholicism. If we ignore Joel's personal accent, could he have been from the colony of New France, or even Saint Domingue (my personal headcanon)?

Mermaids! There is a whole lot of good stuff about mermaids and Caribbean/African beliefs around them. Even some from New Zealand.

Anyway, just thinking out loud.

Watching the series before I’ve seen the movie, haven’t read the books at all

Ep1

Wow this is really modernized (this year), very interesting intro with reporter Daniel Molloy and it’s set after the film I guess

Really curious how much of the car and sets were cgi vs practical

I’m having a hard time picturing how the original story went without one of the main characters being Black. Like racism affects the plot multiple times, and often highlights the power difference between Louis and Lestat.

Louis keeps describing so many red flags about Lestat, lots to unpack about his own “afraid to disappoint” line because he doesn’t have the same sadism disposition as Lestat

Louis’ reflection of the past changing in the retelling, is it more nuanced or more rehearsed. “The odyssey of recollection” loving that this is both an interplay of the previous movie and how memory of fallible and surely that is worse the longer you live as an immortal

Love the suit fashion in this show, wish I had a good fitting suit. Also love the art Nouveau

The domestic issues are so obvious, like Lestat is not happy about being poly despite proposing it. Like I’ve seen this cliche play out irl, including the other people have more success at dating than the person who proposed it

I don't fully get why Lestat keeps investing his energy into a relationship that is clearly starting to fall apart unless he doesn’t do breakups

Did it rain??? How much of my dislike of Lestat is filtered through Louis’ unreliability as a narrator vs not having a good understanding on what motivates him beyond control issues

Holy shit his family relations literally fell apart so quick

“Is your very nature that of the devil”, and it calls back to beginning of the episode where Louis wonders if they are meant for something greater.

What did Louis expect from the public killing and display other then the resulting white mob violence. It’s a decision made out of anger, but incredibly short sighted. Lestat is just so turned on by the gore and chaos

From fandom osmosis I didn’t expect Louis to be the one to advocate turning Claudia, then Lestat goes along with to keep Lous with him.

Wow Lestat is pissed at being left out in the next scene. There’s absolutely gonna be family secrets

Really interesting how the framing is Daniel looking at Claudia’s journals, and so its her voice overs and Lestat and Louis points of view are so shifted. The actress did a great job

I paused on Daniel’s notes, Rashid is sus

I think they were watching Nosferatu, I recognized the scene

Had to double check apparently she’s 14 physically but mentally 18, since I knew she was a child in the movie. Being forever a teen would be hell especially if its before puberty

I wasn’t sure if she meant to kill Charlie until she begged for Lestat to bring him back. Then she copes by self harm

Louis just feeding on Rashid, like they’re making out while Daniel goes through the journals

Louis doing this interview as a form of suicide, is like the one hint we get at global vampire politics

Claudia’s killing rapidly got crazy with a lot of bodies and a lot of trophies. The danger from the cops is real and they disappeared in the middle of a bar which didn’t help

The relationship is rapidly falling apart (it wasn't great before) where Lestat loses interest in parenting as soon as it isn’t fun. Wonder when Lestat started cheating; when Claudia started catching police attention or if he was cheating the whole time

Claudia’s line of “where is my Lestat” a lot to process in that rant but being alone with no companionship at all would destroy someone's mental health

Daniel's lack of sympathy for Claudia with all the murders and his framing of "once you put it out there it's open to interpretation" I'd love to see more meta on that

Why don't they just break up?! Sure they have their own reasons for not leaving the city but they could live apart

Oh shit a new vampire, Bruce. Waiting for the shoe to drop. Oh shit it dropped real quick

After I finish the series I want to check reviews, because I think when Claudia was an actual child this plot went very differently. I do have reservations about why sexual assault was added if didn't happen in the source.

Louis aggravating Daniel's Parkinson's feels like a bigger asshole move than Daniel pushing these questions

The framing on Claudia as Lestat beats her then him, it's so explicitly framed as domestic violence than a vampire fight

Title credit music "home is where you're happy" is a good wham music to contrast with what you just saw

I've seen comments that this show is an example of the showrunners not liking the source material, I bet this episode is divisive.

I finish this episode still "eh" on Lestat, I don't like him I don't hate him, I just don't get his motivation other than control issues

I think the interplay between Louis and Daniel is interesting, Daniel pushes that the doctor who attends the leaders of Dubai is in the apartment and Louis pushes about Daniel dreaming of their first meeting with all the implications that had last time it was brought up

So Louis didnt remember Lestat flying when they fucked?! Yeah someone you’ve lived with for decades suddenly flying and dropping you from such a height gains a new level of horror

Claudia and Louis seem to be getting along so well

Lestat is really trying to buy his way back in, theres like 10 seconds where I thought maybe he did some self reflection and changing but keeping it up for multiple attempts is a bad sign

“I hate you” “as you should” then vampire teeth and he takes Lestat back. Ok this is interesting toxic codependency where Louis had an opportunity to walk away but didn’t take it, and Lestat had an opportunity to move on with Antoinette and didn’t take it.

Louis asking Lestat if he had anything to do with Paul’s death since he always wondered. No wonder their relationship was a mess all these years, i was on the fence on believing Lestat when he said no right up until Antoinette was revealed to be alive

Damn Lestat’s story with the lookalike corpses and his maker killing himself explains so much

Claudia seems to have reached a place of acceptance with her issues, her sense of dress has really changed and you can see how she matured

Holy shit like you think for a moment she got away then the horror of her sobbing as Lestat psychologically tortures her and I think it’s one of the most chilling Lestat scenes in the whole show.

The dreaming then its back to their first meeting. Also lots to unpack about Daniel turning down vampirism. Maybe he would hate to be stuck as he is for eternity.

Sound editing is off, where you can barely hear the dialogue over the music

Surprised it took this long for them and the house to be under a lot of scrutiny especially how they were not subtle

Leaving Lestat as garbage but couldn’t burn him, so I guess that’s how he comes back in Queen of the Damned. Lol Daniel explicitly calls this out

“Armand the love of my life” uhhhh lots to unpack about Louis lovelife. How much of this relationship is unhealthy like the relationship with Lestat

Also dammit I don’t think Daniel gets out of this alive. Rashid pivoted so hard to very threating so quick. Like Daniel’s whole interview methodology is push at people to make them uncomfortable and that’s dangerous even without vampires.

Glad tvtropes is filling me in that Armand is a big deal. Ok so does Lestat fight Armand over Louis or does he accept Louis left and move on

TLDR: it’s interesting how much of the relationship storyline would hold up if you removed vampirism, especially since the racial issues would become even more of a focus. I think a lot of my thoughts of “why don’t they break up” come from most of the time both Louis and Lestat are turning away and not towards when the other makes an emotional bid. I’ve read and enjoyed other relationships that are super toxic and codependent like RvB Locus/Felix and enjoyed them. This one just feels like outside forces are keeping them together more than the push and pull of their personal feelings.

MP - Presentation and Next Steps (LO3)

Slide 1 - Throughout the whole presentation, I used lower caps to show a sense of familiarity and how personal this topic is to me. I don't have much photos of myself (especially this young), so I was fortunate to find this photo. I used it not only because it's an available digital photo on hand but weddings are a big celebration back at home and I was part of the bridal train for my aunt's wedding. It's all greyed out because it rained, seeped into my grandparent's home and destroyed the pictures of grandchildren on the red board (I appreciate my grandma for keeping such a commemorative photo).

Okay, now the introduction to this idea basically starts with me talking about how I as UX designer struggle with empathy. To empathize doesn't fully mean to understand someone but it's an essential skill of a UX designer to consider how users will feel regarding certain decisions. However, how can I empathize when I've struggled with an identity crises from my religion to ethnic background (just because I can't speak my first language, Ijaw or gone to my home village, people often feel I'm not Nigerian enough) . I mean, no-one really knows who they are but at least, I should have some basic acceptance of my identity.

Slide 2 and 3 - I wanted to be dramatic and if you already have an idea from the flag, you can tell it's Nigeria. For this presentation, I aimed in getting my idea understood, rather than putting a lot of sketches and prototypes (I had problems visually the idea so I looked forward to this presentation as a way to get inspiration)

Slide 4 and 6 - In Visual Communication, our briefings often have aims and learning outcomes. Back at home, a similar format was used to introduce topics which is aims and objectives so I took inspiration from that.

I've noticed in the past, I've had so many IDEAS and this has led to me being unable to fully design and visualize them. This is why I limited my plans to aims and objectives. I aim to not only learn about myself but help enlighten others. On the same pages with the aims, I add the other ideas I had. This shows I didn't limit myself and thought of other ways to approach the FMP.

The objectives are the ways/methods in which I try to achieve set goals. This is through getting the content (asking questions and answering them), using key features of good design; touch, visual and sound (obviously can't get smell and taste). There's also an emotional aspect to it. I want people to feel and experience as much as they can through a digital platform. This is why I decided to ask research questions in the first place.

Slide 5 - This is research I looked at. It's all websites and the keywords I used were 'culture' in it'snicethat. Thus, every single example is related to ways in which websites were created to allow others the freedom to understand and explore other cultures. I also put in keywords like websites, web trends but to no avail, this is what I obtained. I felt I hadn't done enough compared to some other presentations but realized it's more about getting the point across. A significant website I looked at was black elevation.

It's a map and website which essentially has 3D elements (visuals) and users navigate pre-dominantly black places in South America . I think it'd be a good idea to create something similar.

Dot's Feedback

I needed to consider if this a super personal project about my experience or about the people. Although, it's great to talk about the history and all but like she stated, my personal experience is something no-one else can tell. Thus, I'm thinking of leaning on that idea.

She suggested creating a kiosk rather than a regular website which I found insightful.

This was a recommended website/kiosk to garner research from.

It displays an interactive 3D experience of a racer and 70's inspired restaurant serving the best gins. The navigation is sleek and simple. I haven't had an experience this delightful and there's optional music in the backdrop. The cursor design also resonated with me, back when I played web games as a child.

Learn Figma (prototyping) and Spline for 3D models. If time is patient with me, I'll be able to design it on Webflow.

"No you are not," Melanie said, as soon as the words left Corva's mouth. Which, honestly, was just rude. She'd had witches of other enclaves question her validity once they knew her background, but never one who just blatantly denied it before knowing anything about her. If Corva were any less exhausted, she would be furious. As it was, she could only muster up a slight annoyance.

“I don’t want to be rude,” Melanie said, sounding very much like she didn't care if she were rude or not, “but I need you to show me your eyes.”

Why is it always about the eyes? Corva thought tiredly.

She should have known better than to approach a lone witch. One without a community? Melanie had probably been thrown out of her enclave for her behavior. And if she wanted to see Corva's eyes? Well. That was a bright red flag right there.

Corva had had enough and more than enough of people wanting to examine her eyes.

She shouldn't have come here. She should have taken her chances in the woods, no matter how exhausted she was.

Corva sighed quietly. "If you didn't want me here, you could have just said that," she said, trying to keep her voice under control. She couldn't let her exhaustion show, couldn't let an unknown mage see any weakness in her. "I'll leave, if that's what you wish. But you cannot have my eyes."

Melanie glanced at him but she knew it would be useless to try sending him away, "This boy is Ducan, one of my familiars, don't mind him or his behavior, he is just... like this," he smirked at the words, Corva didn't seem to like his presence, not at all. "I had sense common in mind while talking to you, but I see that what is well known here may not be known where you come from," Melanie said with a reassuring voice as if talking to a child, she was talking to a child, "Look at my eyes, please, witches have pink eyes, it's like our thing, but from what you said, either you are lying and pretending to be a witch –which would be a crime– or you are hiding this trait, which isn't a crime, but would be odd," and suspicious.

(sees another fandom that I can ask you about and cheers) Orphan Black! Thoughts? I don't know Dr Who but Tatiana is one of my favorite actors period.

Anon you are so sweet! I'm always happy to chat about fandoms and characters and whatnot, and I will never not appreciate the majesty of Tatiana's acting. That is one of the greatest parts of the show hands down.

Orphan Black, to me, is a show that had incredible potential, but didn't really live up to the excitement it created. (Loooong post ahead.)

The thing is, Orphan Black builds a chilling mystery and background, the world it gradually creates as it goes for about the first two seasons, got be very invested and made me wonder a lot about where it was going to go and what the answers were. The setup is brilliant, right from the start with that iconic cold open of Beth's suicide. The unknown is what really helped this show get as thrilling as it was, because the actual answers behind the unknown were kind of hit and miss, and it seemed like far too often, the show just wasn't interested in telling it's story. Hijinks where the clones impersonate each other in slice of life events? That's fun at first and it really works well as they're still getting to know each other. But after a while, it gets tedious, and it seems like the show would rather fuck around and have dance parties (seriously, that scene was such a #BigLippedAlligatorMoment) than focus on the story and the threat that the sisters are facing. Virtually all of Allison's plotlines are like this, they feel like they belong in a different show, and for some reason the writers insisted on giving her one of these storylines like, every season. After Allison passively murders her own friend out of suspecting that she's spying on her, I just don't feel like an arc about her running for some PTA office position even matters. It doesn't feel right.

Speaking of that, here's another example: Donnie. Why did the end of the first season suggest that he was this secret mastermind working for Leekie? The whole idea just deflates in Season 2 and doesn't really go anywhere. He just goes back to being the bumbling sweetheart he was before. Why even have him be the spy? Maybe it should have been Ainsley. Do you want to know the exact moment that I think Orphan Black went wrong? Like, the specific scene? When Leekie was killed off. The character who had thus far been the Big Bad, gets taken out in the stupidest possible way, a literal accident on Donnie's part, and it's even played for laughs. After that point, the show really struggled to regain it's footing, though I don't think it completely went off the rails until about Season 4, and it was still generally hit or miss. Like, some stuff was really good. The introduction of the Castor clones, the development of Rachel's character (I'll get to her, trust me.) and the reveal of Kendall Malone. But it seemed like so much else was just forgotten or otherwise not resolved. Whatever happened to Cal? Sure, the show wanted to focus on the sisters...but Kira deserves to know her father if she wants to. That's just one example. It's a crying shame because this show is sometimes incredible. The metaphor that I always use for situations like this, is a card game. The show has all the right cards in its hand, they're just not being played.

The two strongest characters, at least to me, were Rachel and Helena. One of these characters was superbly written and went through a devastating arc. The other was Helena. We need to talk about her. In Season 1, she really cemented herself as a memorable presence with her trademark accent, her scars, her whole damn personality (again, hats off to Tatiana) and of course, that iconic screechy theme music that accompanied her. Which at first made us jump, but eventually made us cheer. I adored Helena, and I loved the development of her relationship with Sarah. Who went from shooting her in Season 1, to being deadset on rescuring her in Season 3, being furious with Siobhan for betraying her. (This is unrelated but Siobhan has the same " twist villain fakeout" at the end of Season 1 that Donnie does, and it's quite frustrating.) And yet, I swear, the writers just didn't know what to do with Helena half the time. They put her on a bus for long stretches, including one point where she just up and leaves Allison's house in Season 4, for no given reason. And the characters just kind of...don't care. The same thing happens when she gets arrested. No one cares to try and find Helena, even though she's unstable and often a danger to those around her. Even though she's by herself with no real ability to function in society. Even though she's pregnant. There is no excuse for this, and no Sarah, that "I'm sorry, I avoided you" scene in Season 5 is not going to cut it. It's such an afterthought.

I'm being rather critical, but I hope you can tell that this is from a point of passion. I genuinely enjoyed this show and getting to watch it. Just that sometimes it didn't feel like the show cared that I was watching. However, this was not true whenever Rachel was onscreen. Look, I'm a Merula Snyde stan, so you can probably already guess how I feel about Rachel. Despite her crimes, despite her constant slipping back the dark side, I felt so bad for Rachel at the end of it all. That scene with Kira really sums it up. "Who hurt you?" "All of them." And no scene is more intense than when she stabs out the eye cam. Like, I'm sorry, I pitied Rachel pretty much from Season 2 on. Her parents were horrible to her, and I'm supposed to think Ethan is the good guy here? He kills himself in front of his own daughter, telling her that she doesn't deserve him. And then Sarah shoots a pencil through her eye, causing brain damage and requiring a long recovery. I'm not saying that Sarah was wrong to do what she did, just that if I were in her shoes, I'd still feel a degree of guilt for Rachel's condition. In the end, I'm devastated that she was barred from Clone Club, when she made the right decision at the point it mattered. But there's just too much history there, and Sarah won't ever forgive her. (Though again, I do feel as though there's blame to share.) Rachel is my favorite character and I never expected her to be. But she's just so complex. Side note: "Enjoy your oophorectomy" is so damn quotable. I don't know why but I love that line.

So, Rachel's my favorite. Who's my least favorite? It might surprise you. It's Delphine. I'm sorry, but I just...I couldn't get on board with C*phine. Not after Season 3. I was waiting for the point that the show would push to finally redeem Delphine for her turncoat role, for all of the hell that she put Cosima through. By Season 5 though? I realized that as far as the writers were concerned? She already was redeemed. Even though she did nothing to earn it, except be presumed dead by Cosima. The way she treats Cosima in Season 3 is actually disgusting. Her reasoning for breaking up with Cosima is circular. She has to love "all the clones" in order to be with Cosima, and the way to do that is to take over Rachel's job, which means they can't date anymore? I'm not the only one who thought that didn't make sense, right? Oh and let's talk about how she stalks Cosima's date, breaks into her house, and threatens her life. Red. Flags. Cosima even says the line, "If you're not going to be with me, just let me go." I'm sorry, that should not be something she has to beg for. Delphine's behavior made me want her to stay far, far away from Cosima. Who is, incidentally, a sweetie and I absolutely adore her. I legit have trouble remembering that Tatiana's playing her because she just looks and acts so different. That said, even though I immensely disliked Delphine, I am so very glad that they made one of the clones gay. Just like I'm glad that they made one of them trans. (Though...Tony wasn't handled especially well.)

In general, I do think the earlier seasons were stronger. The Brightborn arc, while interesting, didn't really contribute much to the overarching narrative. We got the backstory on Beth's suicide and finally learned the truth about her, I suppose. Still, even though Beth is one of my favorite of the clones, and I never expected her to be either...I feel like the actual reason given for why she took her own life was rather illogical. She apparently did it because the investigation was putting the clones in danger of another Helsinki. Okay, but just because Evie Cho says you should off yourself, doesn't mean you have to. You could just, like...stop investigating. And if you die under mysterious circumstances without explaining anything to the sisters, they're not going to be put off from the investigation. They're going to look into this even more, because they don't know why they're not supposed to. The reveal that she and Art fell in love toward the end adds an extra gut punch, but it also doesn't make sense because wouldn't Art have referenced it during the period that he thought Sarah was Beth? On the other hand, Season 4 also introduced MK. And I have such a soft spot for her. I adore that sheep-masked sweetie. Everyone always asks "Which clone would you date" (because fandoms can think of nothing else I guess) and I never see anyone give any love to MK. Her death absolutely tore me apart. I am glad Siobhan avenged her even if she went down at the same time. Side note, her last word being the affectionate "Chickens..." Broke me.

Season 5 was a strange beast. In general, it seemed like we were finally getting some answers to the questions that were hanging over us. Exploring the deep mythos. But then they kind of turned it around and made it just be a Wizard of Oz style fraud twist. Westmoreland isn't really inhumanly old, he's a charlatan. I don't know why that was necessary in a science fictional show. I've seen the interviews and I get what they were going for, it just feels like it would have been cooler and far creepier if he was actually that old. The puppet master pulling the strings the whole time. We also finally get some answers for Kira's superhuman healing abilities (though we never learn how she's telepathically connected to the clones) and I'm loving it, but the trouble is, it's inconsistent. Ethan "Why is this guy so popular, he's an asshole" Duncan told Rachel specifically that Sarah being able to have children was a fluke, that the clones were "barren by design." I don't know, the whole concept of Revival and of the "magical island" was really foreboding and tied in with the earlier references to The Island of Doctor Moreau. Especially that song about "Revival's Children" just...the shudders, man. But just having it be a regular old scam is...a letdown. I know it may be more realistic, but I don't always need realism in my scifi. The finale is interesting, in that it's mostly an epilogue. I'm glad the clones (sans Rachel) got to live happily ever after, but there are two gut punches right at the end that are total nitpicks but they bother me. Chappelle's stand-up and the trans employees that were suspended

I've been taking my time soaking in all the feedback on this matter. Not that anyone asked but I decided to address it.

Quick refresh for those out of the loop: Dave Chappelle's latest Netflix stand up special, "The Closer", featured a lot of ragging on trans people as he previously had faced backlash on his same input on the same topic. So of course he doubled down on his transphobia in order to get clicks. Because controversy sells. So he dribbled his "team TERF" trash and of course the trans community is upset because it's unnecessary punching down, AND because he seems to have this perspective that there are Black people and then there are trans queer people, and that seemingly there is no intersection between those two communities (plot twist and spoiler alert: there is not only an intersection, it is a huge intersection).

As part of the backlash to Chappelle's stand up, some employees of Netflix who are trans have spoken up against Netflix having the special on their platform, citing that it is harmful ideology to host. At least one trans employee has quit over the matter. It's also widely viewed as hypocritical for the company to pretend to uplift the queer community while also hosting such openly transphobic drivel.

Subsequently there were headlines that 3 trans people had been fired from Netflix over the issue. The headlines made the issue that much more debated however as they were seemingly misleading about why the employees were fired. Pro-Chappelle people quickly came to counter the headlines with "they weren't fired for their opinions or dissent but because they tried to crash a high-level meeting they were not invited to".

However we have found that not to be true either.

Here is a link to a tweet from Terra, one of the employees who had been suspended, addressing the fact she has been reinstated after assessment found that Terra had actually been invited to the meeting by a director. Below are screenshots of what you find in the tweet linked:

So what the hell happened? How could an employee who was literally invited to the meeting be suspended for going to the meeting?

I'm going to keep looking into this to found out more as Terra has been a focus butis now taking time to decompress, and I don't even know who the other employees are or if they will be reinstated etc. (As i have yet to be able to identify any of the other I suspect they may be intentionally staying out of the light for their own safety). I have my theories but I won't state them until I find out more.

I'd also like to note that I would still be in support of these employees even if they had crashed uninvited because if the meeting is about backlash from the trans community then it would make sense to have trans people at the table hosting these conversations. I'm definitely of the belief that if someone is talking about you but doesn't invite you to the table that you should pull up a chair of your own as you have a right to defend yourself.

All i know is Chappelle and Netflix deserve the criticism and this weird erasure of what has actually been going on should be a red flag to everyone who gives a damn. Remember who has the money and thus the power here.

It's noteworthy that Terra isn't uplifting herself, but using her position to uplift the voices of Black trans women, and other marginalized within the community who are undoubtedly most centered in the cross hairs of this Netflix special. This is important as it cuts to where the focus should be: Chappelle's arrogance attempting to pit "Black vs Trans" perpetuating and reverberating transphobic ideology within the wider Black community that was originally imported by imperialism.

There is a whole entire history behind transphobia and homophobia within the Black community dating back to, you guessed it, times of slavery. While the background may being context to how this came to be, it does not excuse it or the perpetuation of this archaic and uninformed ideology particularly in modern day. In fact the history shows that it is part of white supremacy to instigate homophobia and transphobia within the Black community to further divide and conquer people who would otherwise Unite to subjugate white supremacy.

Ultimately, as I started off, I'm still on the side of fuck Chappelle and the one-trick-pony he rode in on because at this point it should be obvious that punching down is not the same as punching up. And if you're double down on the punch down in my eyes it doesn't matter how much punching up you do because all you're doing at that point is ensuring you maintain your own personal status quo of being adored and/or hated by the same amount of people to keep your specials relevant. That is not at all progressive of him, to Black people, or to anyone.

Of course his perspective is that queerness is a "white thing" and that "we" are punching down on "his people" - citing his "friend" who died by suicide and blaming her death on backlash she got for supporting Chappelle's transphobia, which is unsupported. (Note: it is unquestionably in poor taste at the very least to put words in the mouths of the dead no matter their relation to you. Further gross to use her death as leverage for a fucking comedy special or as a shield against criticism. If you would like to read Daphne's last words before she died you can here and make assessment for yourself) I would also like to note that we trans people are no more a monolith than Black people are. We have as many problematic people in our community as any other community does.

Anyway, in closing I will say if you aren't of the group who wishes to boycott Netflix (no judgement honestly, no issue has only one solution) then what you could do in support of trans people is maybe down vote that special (idk if that's just to impact what Netflix suggests to you or if Netflix gathers those metric but it can't hurt to prevent the promotion of other problematic media) and instead watch Disclosure, which talks specifically about the ramifications of negative representation of any marginalized community.

i finally saw ep1!! i wont be able to see ep2 until thursday at the earliest but i already have some Thots on this ep. here are the ones I remember

first is, and i'm so sorry for this, a grammar lesson. an appositive is when you stick an additional phrase in between commas, dashes, or the like. i actually just used one! the "and i'm so sorry for this" in the first sentence of this paragraph is an appositive. thing is, most english speakers don't normally use them when they speak, only in writing. so i'm always on high alert whenever i hear somebody in tv or movies use one. (it's generally a marker of bad screenwriting). anyway there was one right in the beginning of the episode. the white army guy yelling at sam wilson said "first lieutenant Torres, our intel officer, will be helping on the ground." yeah so. the writing of this series started out on the wrong foot for me. but the rest of the episode was obviously tons and tons better (every interview i see with malcolm spellman makes me love him more and more)

the contrast between the opening minutes (falcon action sequence) and the rest of the ep.... i would 100000/10 rather watch a series with just sam and bucky dealing with life. i dont give a single crap about the flag-smashers or any of that. i just want sam, sarah & fam getting their boating business back on the ground & yeeting racist dickwads, bucky going through therapy and making amends, sam and joaquin being bros, sambucky homoerotic tension, etc.

the cinnamontography! wandavision mostly used cinematography to signify era n stuff. tfatws doesn't have wv's premise to go off of, so here's some tricks i noticed:

with sam there's obviously all sorts of shots with the captain america iconography next to his face, but he hasn't totally claimed it. there's the mural of steve rogers in the background; there's sam staring into the shield like it's a spectre of steve's face; there's sam looking into the exhibit, the shield and sam separated by glass and a layer of camera focus. steve is a constant spectre, always there, an idea, a symbol himself. sam's relationship with this iconography is distanced. he is separated by glass exhibit walls. by painting canvases. he doesn't yet feel worthy to take on that iconography. this whole thing was pulled off quite well but also a bit on-the-nose if only in quantity. there's just sooooo much fancy iconography stuff

speaking of the exhibit, there's something that i get real pissy about. it's when like, there's an action going on you're supposed to be paying attention to but the cinematographer is like,,,, hey! check out this location! or this headline! or something! there was a lot of that in the exhibit. the camera was like, you could focus on sam and rhodey's convo (which was fine but could have been so much better with an extra like 10 minutes of deep character study talk) but noooo you want me to look at the symbol for the united nations and read all the text about bucky who hasn't even showed up yet. shut up i know the lore and ill watch the shot-by-shot breakdown yt vids you don't have to make the shot this long jkdsalcjklasejf

my fav trick was with bucky and the therapist. i had seen a clip of the scene with bucky and the therapist beforehand and i thought the cinnamontography was super obnoxious, but then i was like, oh duh. the shots frequently change the distance between the camera and its subject. sometimes it's uncomfortably close and sometimes it's really far. a clear allegory for the duality of therapy, esp for bucky! therapy is an invasive process wherein he is ruthlessly examined, picked apart, and berated for his trauma (this therapist is crap in every way btw, "mean therapist" works for greg house and greg house only). so the camera goes close. it makes the viewer claustrophobic like bucky. but when he's like "no i haven't had any nightmares" the camera suddenly goes really far. we see bucky as this tiny head in the center of the bottom of the frame. we are distanced from him. he has pushed us away. we cannot see him. he lies because he is vulnerable. so yeah, amazing work there. the therapy scene was hard to watch on purpose!

speaking of racism, the interplay between sam being Black (anti-Black racism) and sam being the Falcon (negrophilia, "can i take a selfie w you as i deny you a loan?") and the intersection between the two (j*hn lichrally called sam "steve's wingman"! he takes the crypto out of crypto-racist in like 2 seconds!) !!!!!!!! a Black celebrity's Black experience, the separation of man and identity!!!! bucky says "he was wrong about you so maybe he was wrong about me"...that's not how people talk. when therapist asks bucky, the guy who doesn't talk at all about himself, "y do you hate sam", the last thing bucky's gonna do is actually connect his hatred of sam to his own self-worth issues. bucky generally refuses to talk about himself, so why would he talk about himself in the one context that nobody ever links back to their own neuroses: hatred of other people? one thing human beings hate most is admitting we're wrong. admitting you hate someone because of your own issues? that's a major therapeutic step. bucky would absolutely have to be prompted to do that. even like one or two lines of dialogue more would have set up that line better. but in terms of the actual thought? an amazing way to take the sam/bucky relationship. bucky bases his self-worth on steve believing in him, and if steve is wrong bucky has no self-worth, so 1) he has to develop self-worth disassociated from steve's assessment of him and 2) he has to love himself before he can love sam, and 3) he has to realize that sam giving up the shield is a sign of sam's humility not his unworthiness.

conversely, we don't get into why sam hates bucky? yeah sam has the right to hate a guy that has tried to kill him (albeit while brainwashed) multiple times, and now shows up in his life just to bash him but. everything happens so fast i cant follow their relationship

in fact i dont feel like i understood much of anything. like y did bucky and sam go on that mission together? how connected are sam/bucky/joaquin with the government? doesn't bucky just want to retire now? literally what is everyone doing/feeling and why???

if battlestar becomes a knowing commentary on the black best friend stereotype i'm gonna party, but i dont expect much of that

the interplay between man and symbol. captain america is obviously a symbol. the shield is obviously a symbol. but steve rogers? the. man behind the cowl? he too seems to become a symbol. a paragon of a good guy, so good he's unreachable. steve was just a guy stop idolizing him the last thing steve would want is to be idolized

Don't worry about getting this to me as early as possible. I usually don't watch the episode right away.

1. Cool writing lesson.

2. Everyone wants a comedy show [like Friends] about the MCU superheroes.

3. Cinematography is always a beautiful thing.

4. Sam definitely has to carve his own Captain America status for himself, outside of Steve's ya know everything.

5. They have to do that for people who was just now tuning in because they're in love with Sam Wilson or Sharon Carter.

6. I think the therapist was taking a 'tough love' approach for Bucky, because she likely has some very strong opinions about the literal assassin she's been assigned to give therapy too. She did not choose to talk to him, she was assigned that make that clear in the second episode.

And, Bucky isn't lying when he said it wasn't a nightmare. It wasn't a nightmare, it was a resurfaced memory. So, technically he wasn't lying - and yes, the camera does move away because while he's saying he didn't have a nightmare, he's not expanding on what actually happened - so, he's still pushing the therapist/us away.

1. Honestly, that line was double meaning. Both about White people and Hydra [which is made up of mostly white supremacists/nazis] So, the line is gesturing to both White People in general and Hydra assholes together. I think the terminology is “double edge sword”??

2. This whole paragraph structure confused me, ngl - so I'm going to answer it the best I can. I do like that they're not ignoring the fact that Sam being Black is 1000% the reason he's not the Official Captain America - because the gov't is racist as hell.

I also like the little lines about how they point out little things about Sam's Falcon persona, like that kid calling him 'Black Falcon' specifically and Sam's response show the split between Sam and Falcon itself.

John is a dick for calling Sam the wingman of Steve Rogers. Sam was a hero all on his own before Steve asked him to join up again. [Side note, it's lichrally??]

3. Exactly, the parallel of Sam being profiled and surrounded while just on the street and John being surrounded by fans and being able to spring Bucky with apparently only a few sentences shows a Loooooot

4. Honestly, at this point I wonder if she's not actually a therapist and is just an agent assigned to assess Bucky outside of an Official Building. I do know, however, that her 'look at each other and speak' exercise is actually a real therapy practice. It's just a little slower.

5. Actually, I think he would've blurted that out. That whole line. I don't think Bucky hates Sam. I think they could've done the scene better, but I think that had Sam prodded him/the therapist been more annoying Bucky would've lost control of his emotions and blurted out the whole "If he was wrong about you, he was wrong about me" but I feel like the writing for this show is just... not there. Sometimes you blurt shit when you get overemotional and I think that was what Bucky was supposed to be like.

6. I don't think Sam hates Bucky, I think he doesn't trust him though. I do wish they'd talked about that though. The whole 'talk to each other' scene should've been a LOT longer and a LOT slower.

7. Sam and Bucky's relationship is being fast tracked because they don't really know how to work the relationship out, writers-room-wise. Bucky is technically retired, but I feel like he's trying to live up to Steve's expectations and doing what Steve would've done and we all know that if Steve was there, Steve would've jumped on that plane with Sam. It looks like Sam/Bucky/Joaquin are a side-team based from Military services but as Sam says they're all free agents so...?

8. Sadly, They seem to just be propping up to be another stereotype.

9. Captain America is a symbol. Steve Rogers is a man. But now Steve Rogers is an idol because of all the shit he's been through and honestly, it's not a bad thing he's become an idol for people - it's using Steve as a reason to make White Bread Walker the next Captain that makes Steve's idolization so fucked.

When you have constant memories of something 'someone else' did, you tend to not be able to pull the two personas out of each other. I want Bucky to take up the title, White Wolf instead of Winter Soldier. Honest.

This is all my opinion, I’m honestly a little disappointed with the writing of TFATWS so far so... I’m not really optimistic about this.

hi, i am very sorry to bother you, but i am trying to get into The Untamed and i am having a lot of trouble just... understanding it? even its basic premise? i tried watching the netflix show and got really confused and then i tried looking stuff up on the wiki but that was also incredibly hard for me to parse. if it's not too much trouble could you, like... give a very basic summary as if i am a particularly slow child? if not dwbi don't feel obligated to respond! again sorry to bother you

ok i myself am not DONE with the show, but i think i can parse out the beginning of it for you, and the main thing that might help your understanding is that the first two episodes take place in media res, and THEN the next like...twenty or so jump back to give a linear flashback of what happened to GET us to the first couple episodes. so because of the nature of the present-day/WOAH BIG FLASHBACK structure, you’re not meant to know everything that’s going on to start with; there are lots of things in the first couple episodes that ONLY become clear once you’ve gone back and established who the characters are. it sort of plops you right down in the middle of the action and then rolls you all the way to the beginning so as to clarify a few things.

i’ve heard a couple people say that if you don’t want the confusion of this, start with episode three,  and then go and watch episodes 1&2 AFTER you’ve finished all the way up to about a quarter of the way through episode 33. this seems needlessly circuitous to me, so instead i will try to give you a basic rundown of the important plot stuff so you’ll know what’s happening in the beginning. after you get to the flashback as episode 3 starts, it’s pretty straightforward from there and things are explained as the action unfolds in order.

BASIC PREMISE: this is a story about two men (wei wuxian and lan wangji) in ancient fantasy china. they’re also each other’s love interests, although due to censorship reasons, this is established mostly via context clues rather than physical stuff. we follow them forward and backward through time as they navigate political upheaval, war, some murder mysteries, and ghost troubles. HERE’S HOW IT STARTS.

a) a young man is seen falling off a cliff to his death in battle. two men are with him; these fellows will become important later. for now, all you need to know is that the guy in white likes him and the guy in blue doesn’t. a scholar narrates the battle in a voice-over, and seems THRILLED that our hero has just died.

b) FAST FORWARD 16 YEARS

c) as the scholar finishes his lecture, we see a very confused man waking up in a very bloody room. this is wei wuxian, the guy that died in the prologue; he’s just been resurrected and tasked with taking revenge on a shadowy figure’s enemies. we quickly learn that he’s as confused as we are. he doesn’t know much except that there seem to be some ghosts possessing people in the household where he’s woken up, and that none of these people seem to like him very much. crucially, none of them know he’s the man that died, however: they seem to think he’s someone else entirely. he takes advantage of this, puts on a mask, and disguises himself so that nobody recognizes him.

d) at this point, we meet several other people who will become important: the crowd of chipper young gents in white who are setting up flags all over the place are “the juniors,” a group of students who specialize in magical fighting skills and exorcisms. at the climax of the episode, their teacher shows up to help them battle the ghosts; he’s the guy in white from the prologue! that’s lan wangji, our second romantic lead. our hero is extremely happy to see him, but doesn’t show his face. ghosts vanquished, our hero leaves town the next morning. so too, does a mysterious figure whose face we don’t see, but who carries a fan and seems to have a lot of gold to spend on scholars telling stories about battles.

e) EPISODE TWO: our hero wanders about the countryside, still trying to figure out why he’s alive. on the road, he meets a crowd of travelers, who provide some background info on the world our story takes place in. our hero experiences a couple weird flashbacks on his way to the temple, including one at a graveyard tended by an old man. the woman we see him imagining? she’s an important figure from his past.

f) OTHER PEOPLE WE MEET IN THIS EPISODE: a somewhat bratty teenager in gold; this is jin ling. he’s a rich warrior, but he’s also an orphan and a bit touchy about it. he’s busy setting traps for demons in the woods, and when he gets into an argument with our hero about his attitude...

g) HIS UNCLE SHOWS UP. this is jiang cheng, and the most important thing about him right now is that he’s the other guy from the prologue - the guy who pushed our hero to his death. this is understandably worrisome, but before he can figure out wei wuxian is alive, lan wangji and the juniors show up and our hero is able to escape.

h) at this point, lots of things happen at once, culminating in the juniors fighting an animate statue and our hero stepping in to help them. he does so via makeshift flute, which seems to be his primary weapon; with it he summons a figure in black who flings some chains around and really kicks ass. he’s another figure from the past, but before we can find out about him, everyone i’ve mentioned sort of converges on the scene and it’s clear at this point that our hero may have given himself away.

i) FLASHBACK TIME. the episode ends with a flashback to many years before, some time prior to the battle in the prologue. our hero is enjoying a stroll through a nice town with two people who we quickly learn are his siblings - a sister and a brother. first mystery solved: the brother is jiang cheng, our cliff-pusher. they’re on their way to school as episode 3 begins, and from there the series follows their adventures as juniors some sixteen+years prior, what they do after school, how the war begins, and why our hero dies in battle. when it’s all said and done, this part of the story takes us all the way up to ep33, when we revisit the battle, now with context. after that, we’re back in the present.

do note that lots of characters have several names and titles, so i can break some of those down and that might clear up some of the confusion as well. i recommend the TVTropes page if you want a breakdown of ALL the titles; it’s pretty thorough and sometimes wikis can be overwhelming. the only ones you’ll need to know from the start tho are these ones:

wei wuxian = wei ying = the yiling patriarch > all same guy

lan wangji = lan zhan = hanguan-jun (his job) > all same guy

i realize this is very long, but i wanted to be thorough for you. if it sounds very confusing, it IS based on a novel, mo dao zhu shi, which i have not read but which you can find online and which i believe does the flashbacks in a more spaced-apart way. i hope this answered your question??? i realize i kind of went for it, but i wanted to give you a thorough recap without too many spoilers.

The Spirit of The Dark Kingdom Chapter 10

Last time on The Spirit of The Dark Kingdom, the doctor and Anika were preparing everything to make sure the doctor's plan would go smoothly. Once they were set, Anika had seemed to pick up a little bit of cold feet, not wanting to leave the doctor and all she had with him. The doctor had felt the same way, not wanting Anika or Hanabi to leave, but he was focused more on not losing them both instead.

Knowing they weren't going to get anywhere with how they were feeling, the doctor decided to slow down a bit and comfort Anika before leaving the cell. After calming her down, he decided to officially make his move and kiss her for the first time. Sharing a deep, loving kiss, honest final words of affection were said from both the doctor and Anika, finally gathering themselves and heading out of their cell to escape.

During their evacuation, sneaking through the halls, they hear the words of the blacksmith and a maid, the words seem to hit the doctor hard. Continuing their escape plan, they make it to the courtyard with the gates.

Carefully pushing a little further, they almost reach their breaking point, but are caught by King Aireth from above by just the snag of hair and coat. Making it to the gates, they share their final moments, saying their goodbyes and getting ready to save Anika and Hanabi, but before they can, King Aireth and his soldiers surround them and attack. Anika and Hanabi escape, but the doctor gets captured along with Zero and placed into different cells.

Anika and Hanabi are now forever banished from Dark Kingdom, with the execution still going on for the doctor, what shall become of them and the children of Anika? Only time can tell their fates.

Anika had kept running with Hanabi even though they passed the premise lines of the kingdom. Although all of the kingdoms by now have heard word of the commotion in The Demon Realm from The Dark Kingdom, Anika had more than one realm to choose to go to, two of them use to be her home. Looking at her options carefully, she goes to the realm that defines her nature from the day she moved to The Demon Realm, The Realm of Fallen Angels. Hoping for the best, she heads there quickly.

When she arrives, she comes across fallen angels, some more beautiful or darker than others. They look to her and approach with a vicious aura, hinting that they don't want her around.

Anika:*Hello...can any of you help me...?

Fallen Angel 1:*Help? You? Ha! Why would a fallen angel as dark as I help someone who just arrived here?

Anika:*I have my daughter with me and-

Fallen Angel 1:* I'm not stupid. I can see the child. So what?

Anika:* I'm on my own with my daughter and not being followed. I need a place to stay until I can fly on my own... I want my daughter to be safe and-

Fallen Angel 2:*You must be stupider than I thought you were. A child and a broken girl like you? Safe? You know what this realm is like don't you? This is where the broken, fallen, corrupted, dark, and shattered angels go~ You're lucky that we aren't the worst type of angel. Your baby would've been torn to shreds in seconds. With you bound to the ground, you might as well just go to The Demon Realm and let the new king kill you right then and there.

Anika:*I'm not stupid enough to back there....

Fallen Angel 2:* I can't tell. Who's the father of that baby anyways? Are you a human just trying to leave because of baby daddy drama or what~?

Anika:*No, I know my daughter's father..

Fallen Angel 2:*Then go to him and leave us alone! Isn't it obvious we don't need a lost cause like you here?!

Anika:*More than obvious.

Fallen Angel 2:**grabs Anika by the neck and throws her on the ground*

Hanabi:**Starts crying, nuzzling Anika*

Anika:**comforts Hanabi to calm her down. She finally spreads her wings, wincing in pain. Her wings are full of arrows from when she was about to fly out of the Dark Kingdom, but decided to run because she was hit before she could*

Fallen Angel 1:*Oh, now she wants to spread her wings to show she's no human~? What difference does it make, she's weak~

Anika:**a red aura surrounds her* It makes a ton of difference, especially when you see I won't fall to you.

Fallen Angel 2:*Try me~ I'll knock you down again~

Anika:*I'll get right back up too.

Fallen Angel 3:**arrives from the commotion, but gasps when she sees Anika* Anika?!

Anika:**gasps, recognizing the fallen angel* Nani...?

Nani:*Anika, I can't believe it's you!

Anika:*Heh, you're looking straight at me aren't you?

Nani:**giggles* True. You look terrible. Here, let's get you and the baby in your arms away from these bullies.

Nani flies Anika and Hanabi away from the fallen angels after making them back off. She brings them to a clear, empty area with a fountain with gently flowing black water with a figure of a beautiful fallen angel that the water is flowing from. Nani gently hold's Anika's shoulders to calm her down. When Anika is calm, Nani gently speaks to her.

Nani:*Anika, what happened to you? Who's baby is this you're holding?

Anika:*It's too much for me to say without not being able to finish telling you... So much has happened and I don't know what to do... This is my daughter Hanabi...

Nani:*Well, you're baby is cute even though she has one red eye. I won't make you explain, but I at least want you to try to say as much as you can.

Anika:*Nani, look, I'll tell you later, now, I just need help getting a home for my baby and I to live in...

Nani:*I figured that's what you needed, especially if you're trying to move back here to live.. You know that you must see the king first in order for you to live here though and in whichever section of fallen angels he gives you.

Anika:*I know that I do. Can you please take me to him...?

Nani:*Anika, I don't he'll accept you back here if something went on with you...

Anika:*I have to try anyways... for my baby...

Nani:*Well...ok. Come on.

Nani then takes Anika and Hanabi to the main point of The Realm of Fallen Angels. At the main point is a tall arc angel with grey wings, cracks on its face, black eyes and veins on its face, holding a heart that's in shards. They go inside the beautifully mixed fallen angel and find the king in his throne.

Nani:*King Arc-Illis...?

King Arc-Illis:*Yes dear fallen angel?

Nani:*I bring a past resident who left us. She wishes to live with us again and have a home for her and her child.

King Arc-Illis:*Oh? *looks to Anika, slightly recognizing her* What is their names? I'll have to look into her memory and background in order for her to live here.

Anika:*M-My name is Anika. I carry with me my daughter Hanabi...

King Arc-Illis:*Hmm... Your memory and your child's memory please.

Anika:*Whenever you're ready your majesty...

King Arc-Illis gently places his finger on Hanabi's forehead, looking through her memory. he jolts from what he sees, becoming on edge. Not liking what he sees so far, he gently places his finger on Anika's forehead, looking through her memory, hissing aggressively. he and King Aireth are on extremely bad terms with eachother, and the fact she was involved with him, on top of that, gave birth to his children and brought one with her displeases him highly. He glares at Anika sharply.

King Arc-Illis:* Go. Don't ever come back here to this realm ever again or else I will have the corrupted tear you and your child to shreds.

Nani:*Sir! What did you see? What displeases you? Why can't she stay...?

King Arc-Illis:*She and her child are nothing but red flags toward our realm. I will not allow the peasant play toy and unidentified corrupt stay here. She is not to come back as well.

Nani:**looks to Anika* Anika..what happened...?

Anika:**begins tearing up*I...*she can't face Nani and tell her what happened, looking back to King Arc-Illis* Please sir, let at least my child stay here..I wish for her a positive well being... I won't cause trouble or harm-

King Arc-Illis:*NO! I will not allow either of you two to stay here for a minute longer! Nani, you are not allowed to touch her or her child. Leave immediately and you will not be punished. Your friend here is a criminal, no good, and worse than our shattered fallen angels. There is no room for a thing such as her and her child.

Nani:**tears up, tears falling down her face, she looks at Anika once more, then leaves*

King Arc-Illis:*Leave. Now.

Anika:**she can't stop the tears running down her face*Y-Yes your majesty...

With that, Anika leaves The Realm of Fallen Angels, her heart weighing heavier than before. She holds Hanabi close and thinks of where to go next. The only other home she had was The Angel Realm. Heading there, she comforts Hanabi, using that as a distraction towards herself. She's feeling defeated and upset, not knowing what's to come or if she'll ever start a new life with Hanabi in safer conditions.

Whether or not any of her hopes will shed light to her current situation is yet to be found out on the next chapter of The Spirit of The Dark Kingdom. 'A true beginning is to be found at the end'...
