what age do you feel in your brain?: definitely not like i should be in my 30s lol it's funny, i was talking about this the other day. about how covid hit when i was 29 and i don't feel like i've aged in the meantime. but at the same time i feel decades older.

do you feel like the good times are behind you or ahead of you?: hmm i think this is one of those "it can be both" type of things. lots of good behind me, lots of good ahead of me (i fucking hope!)

I was thinking about what you said irt trad historical romance being in a weird spot and decided to look at Sarah Maclean's website to see when her next book is releasing, only to see her next book is a contemporary! Like talk about on the nose

Lol I will admit, I knew about that when I made the post, but it's not WHY I made the post. And disclaimer: so happy for Sarah, I'm reading that book 100%, love the premise as a Succession fan, and I'm also interested to see what she'll do with a different publisher... which is an interesting part of all this, imo. She's said she'll do historicals forever, I believe her, the Duchess book is out in 2025, I trust Sarah with her love of historicals.

I doooo however see a lot fewer trad pub historicals coming out (and I say this as someone who is on NetGalley a lot--I see the incoming trad pub historicals). And the ones I do see are often from smaller presses, which isn't bad, but--Avon seems to be slowing it down, and they have been one of the big historical romance publishers in the past. I've said this before, but they also lost Carrie Feron, one of their majorly influential editors who worked with a lot of big historical romance authors, last year. I don't think that's a coincidence...

And while Sarah MacLean isn't leaving historicals, a lot of core authors haven't been publishing as much. Lisa Kleypas hasn't published a book since Devil in Disguise in... 2021? Ms. Bev hasn't published a historical, think, since To Catch a Raven in 2022. Elizabeth Hoyt's less book was pre-pandemic, I think.

Joanna Shupe has a historical romance, The Gilded Heiress, out in December year. But it doesn't appear to be a part of a series as of now which is kinda unusual for historicals in this day and age and indicates a shorter deal unless there's more to come, I could've sworn it was due out earlier originally (and that could be her needing more time, but it could also be Avon delaying it, I honestly don't know) and I mean.... Joanna has been publishing indie a lot more in recent years, both historicals under the Joanna name and mafia under the Mila name. I see Minerva Spencer doing more indie stuff with her S.M. LaViolette pen name, too.

Eva Leigh seems to be pivoting to fantasy romance for her next few releases. Tessa Dare has been out of the game for a bit, though I think there are many reasons behind that.

Now, on the bright side, we see authors like Adriana Herrera, Liana de la Rosa, Cat Sebastian, Alexis Hall, Amalie Howard etc doing new and interesting things with the genre. Alexandra Vasti has her full-length trad debut this year. These are good things!

But I do see a lot of authors saying on social media that publishers are not very open to histrom as of late... and as someone who wants to write it, that's discouraging lmao.

Obviously, I wanna say, I support ALL of these authors doing things that aren't histrom (can't wait to see what Eva's books are about omg). BUT.... I do hope that this doesn't submerge out of tradpub for a billion years. And if it does, I know indie is a resource, and I hope that histrom readers pick up the all and support indie historical releases.

The struggle there, imo, is that a lot of histrom readers are a bit less into ebooks (stereotypically) but like--tell your mom who loves historicals to read shit on KU. Tell your buddy in her 20s who thinks it's all stodgy and chaste that there is some WILD SHIT in there. Tell your dark romance reader friends about all the dubcon and kidnappings lol. Spend money on these books when you can, and obtain them from your library, subscription services, etc when you can't. This audience does need to push to support authors who are doing the work.

No. Closest was when someone complained on one of my destiel fics about the grocery store not having plastic bags and needing a quarter in order to obtain a cart. I specifically remember they said, "I hate when writers do this," and went on to complain about us making up obviously fake stuff that pulls them out of the story. Like, first of all you're complaining about storytellers making stuff up ??? okay. And second, it was an Aldi. A real grocery store. That I didn't make up.

I had to take a day to cool off before I responded and then they were like oh yeah, my roommate told me when I complained to them, you responded to this really nicely though! WHICH folks LET ME TELL YOU made me angrier lol Like you found out you were wrong and didn't even come back to edit/delete/apologize for your comment???

Anyway after that I internalized that you don't know what kind of lived experience your commenters have so some comments should be taken with a grain of salt. Which is a double-edged sword bc sometimes I get really nice enthusiastic comments and read it like, okay but what if this person is 12 and read it at 2am in a fit of delirium and this is their first fic ever and it's actually not as good as they think haha

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I doooo. I haven't published any since I wrote for spn but I have a parkner pwp ready to go as soon as I muster up the nerve.

I have but I never published them. Again, these were for spn which is hella fun to play with merging into other canon. I started but never finished spn crossovers with Firefly, The 100, The Hunger Games, Criminal Minds, Agents of Shield, and Teen Wolf. I think that's all of them. I've been thinking about putting all of my abandoned wips on AO3 for archive purposes, but idk still noodling on it. I wish there way a way I could elect to post without notifying my subscribers :/ Or at least send them a message warning them that I'm about to be incredibly annoying

Nope! Done some brainstorming a few times but nothing that has evolved into actually writing out a shared thing. Not sure I'd be any good at it tbh. I'd probably be a very frustrating writing partner.

Eh. It's fanfiction, you know? Do what you want. Experiment. Try your best to do it justice. Accept that some people are going to let their eyes blur and skim over it while others will pick it apart but most will exist somewhere in the middle. Just write what you want to write, how you want to write it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

*sigh* Harry Potter. Looking forward to my own post getting gobbled up by my block list lmao

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Goodness gracious how do I even decide? I think Peaches Ain't Pretty is my favorite. It's the fic that showed me beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can step outside of fanfiction and write whatever I want and be just as satisfied, if not more.

In what way? // I think it’s time to finally give backstory as to where I knew Pearson from before Tallyho! He’s a lovely OC that belongs to my friend Juno, and before I knew what Tallyho was, back when I was still heavily into RvB, a former friend was running a tabletop game centered around the RvB and Halo universe. Bun introduced Pearson as a throwaway character, because bun was reusing a Cyberpunk character as a DMPC, and at the time of the session Juno had joined and it was a nice little callback to the campaign that had finished. After that, I didn’t really hear much about him outside of callbacks when another friend of mine brought up his Cyberpunk OC, and Juno would chime in in relation to Pearson. Then, Tallyho happened. So, I’d say my first impressions were “aw, a callback”? LOL. Now, I’m…kind of scared to talk abt him in general? I do love him to death, and I’m like…I’m unwell about Pearson, but he’s not something I talk about with Juno. Lots of personal issues and context I can’t provide, but most of all it’s because I’m a fuckin weenie and I think if she knew how unwell I was about Pearson she’d think I’m weird- (also shou if you actually read this I'm begging you to not share with Juno if you get the itch to I will actually kill you) 4: "Fake Out" - It’s 3 AM. ive done a terrible thing and accidentally turned on gloom hands for the map. i was only doing korok seeds/wells/caves/other bosses - i wanted shrines and hands to be a surprise, so i was just turning shrines on and off now and then to make sure i wasnt walking past any. but then i turned on hads to see how many there were and there's two in the next place im going for my korok seeds (crenel region). i would have rather not known :(

ugh man my compendium is SOOO empty...i miss the camera being on the first-person view. having it as an ability is so clunky! if i wanna 100% this i really gotta get on that bc no way do i or will i ever have the rupees to buy my way to victory

i looove btw, if i havent said. that if you kill an enemy while gliding/skydiving, you get the drops anyway. like they just appear in your inventory. VERY good

i wish the totk fight music was better. i mean don't get me wrong, it's fine, but because of the way the soundtrack works the 3 songs i hear most often are the fight music, the shrine music, and the ambient bg music, which sometimes changes when in a snowy/high/watery area. i hear the fight music more than any other song and it gets stuck in my head CONSTANTLY and while much of this game's soundtrack is mindblowing and incredible, the fight music Is Not. it's simply not good enough for the song i'm listening to the fucking most. i'm already tired of hearing it and i'm only (checks) 95 hours into this game. ugh

rebecca by daphne du maurier (book). this one i know i've mentioned before, but it just holds such a special place in my heart T_T it was the first, like, "grown-up" book i read, and it's just sort of cemented itself in my perennial list of faves. it's a mystery, it's a romance, it's got twists and turns out the wazoo, it's just delicious is what it is.

hannibal by thomas harris (book). i know a lot of the hannibal fran...chise? is that the right word for it??? a lot of the hubbub surrounding hannibal lecter the character sort of gets slotted into horror automatically, but i personally tend to feel like the books are more thriller/crime novels than out and out horror. i love the whole series, but hannibal is particularly at the top of the list because it features two of my fave antagonists ever: mason and margot verger. idk what it is about murder siblings that gets me every single time, but like. it sure does.

the green mile by stephen king (book). i cry every time. every single time. i have read this book at least ten times, and every time i do, i tell myself THIS IS THE TIME YOU'RE NOT GONNA CRY!!! and then i weep like a baby.

the phantom of the opera (2004; movie). yeah, okay, this one also...just lives in my heart, lmao. my mom and i have watched this movie together more times than i can count, so it's gotta rank pretty high :P plus, i'm a sucker for fancy masquerade balls and old-timey romance, so really, the first time i sat down to watch this, i was pretty much hooked forever.

hot rod (2007; movie). look. LOOK. as a general rule, i do not like comedy movies. i just don't. when something is TRYING to be funny, 9 times out of 10, i just...don't like it. but hot rod makes me pee my pants every goddamn time. this was my friends' and my go-to movie in high school, and i'm almost positive i can still quote the whole thing by heart, if pressed. it's such a stupid movie. all of it. but it makes me laugh until i cry literal tears, and now there's nothing i want more than to go and rewatch it NOW skdlfjlksdjfklsdfj
