There had to be some level of tolerance if he was given just a small bit of attention to be spoken to. He did mentally question the 'not even you' comment that was emphasized at the tail end of her comment. Had she known much about him to say such a thing?

Did he have a reputation of helping others?

'Ah-- is it because of young master? Has he been speaking nonsense when he ventures at night?'

That young master of his sure enjoyed bothering him at any chance he could. If he could make himself insufferable, it was a day well woken up to.

"Well, being of no help to others is something I'm quite familiar with." He couldn't save his own family from being massacred, he had to watch his Teacher draw his last breath in his arms, and he even failed to prevent the tragedy that befell his teacher's family, failing to uphold his dying request. His life was all but a series of disappointing others.

"If you wish not for me to attempt, I will respect that. I can at least offer a listening ear if you wish to vent over a cup of tea."
