Goldie HCs:
As much as I love what Don Rosa did with this one-shot character I always wanted to know more. I think he did a great job in establishing her character and her relationship with Scrooge, but I’m greedy. I want more.
Carl Barks used her in a single story, and that single story was enough.
Goldie’s parents were Irish immigrants. She was the oldest of three; a sister named Ruby, a brother named Jasper. Yes, there’s a running theme going on here.
Her father was a gambling man, and he taught her how to play the wealthiest sucker like a fiddle. He loved his family but was a player, and he drank too much. This caused his young death.
Goldie may idealize her father throughout her childhood. She will come to terms that he was not the best husband, or even the best father. But she loves him dearly regardless.
Her mother was a seamstress and remarried after her husband died. Goldie’s step-father wasn’t mean. He wasn’t nice. He didn’t love her, and she didn’t love him. He was closer to the younger children since they were too young to remember their father.
Goldie’s relationship with her mother was always a source of friction in the household. Her mother was docile, timid, and in Goldie’s mind, weak. Being the opposite of her mother, this led to many disagreements.
Goldie regrets calling her mother a prized mare, some servant to an old man. It was aid in the heat of the moment, and she instantly regretted it.
Very Catholic. Her childhood was extremely Catholic.
She was close to both of her siblings. They were equals through and through. Ruby admired Goldie a lot during their childhood, and this didn’t result into any type of envy/animosity.
Ruby was similar to their mother. Timid, meek, but she wasn’t a pushover, which Goldie made sure of.
Jasper was a rowdy but bookworm kind of boy. He falls into obscurity later on, and most likely dies of old age as a librarian somewhere in Spoonerville.
Their stepfather wasn’t a wealthy man but tried his best to promote doing what needs to be done, which included occasional robbery.
Goldie left home at eighteen. Her mother and stepfather had several more children, and it was several more children too much. Goldie would communicate with her mother through letters, but that quickly faded.
Ruby and Jasper left soon after.
Goldie was a traveling woman and had a number of odd jobs.
Considering her profession, I always imagined she slept with some of the...uh...customers.
Goldie saw sex as a means to an end. She is not ashamed of her work.
Goldie is (and will always be) the more sexually experienced of the two.
Her first job was working as a cleaning woman. After the husband of the house tried to assault her, she stormed off into the early morning. He was left with a black eye.
A friend of hers she made as a cleaning woman was on her way to Dawson with her family. One of the people traveling with her was her brother. He was handsome, and one thing led to another. Goldie was pregnant. He disappears.
Goldie chooses to give birth, and leaves the child in Ruby’s care. Goldie names the girl Pearl.
Ruby lives with her roommate Mary. Pearl is raised around two awesome gal pals, and couldn’t be happier.
She sends money and gifts to Pearl. Their relationship will be more akin to sisters than mother-daughter, and this works fine for them, especially in later years.
Goldie doesn’t arrive in Dawson or near it to be a dancehall girl, but she ends up doing that after opening her first business.
She makes a name for herself during the gold rush for her singing, dancing, but a lot of people are weary of her due to her shrewd business handling as well as how cut throat she can be.
Goldie isn’t a baby or kid person. She does care for them, and a portion of her money goes to the local orphanage.
Scrooge isn’t the first man she’s slipped a sleepy pill in, but he’s definitely the last.
In accordance to the possible DuckTales changes, I’d say she remains a dancehall girl, Scrooge still kidnaps her, and she still has to work off her debt to him.
Yeah, they still have duck sex, but it’s lightly implied.
BUT...afterwards when she realizes Scrooge isn’t going to come back, no matter how much he may want to, and how determined she’s set on proving that she can get dig as much gold as him, she becomes a miner.
And a pretty successful one. She finds herself enjoying gold hunting the old fashioned way just as much as she enjoys singing and dancing.
A similar incident parts them where they’re too stubborn to admit their love for one another, and Scrooge still doesn’t read the damn letter.
When she and Scrooge don’t work out, she leaves Dawson and travels. She continues to travel through the world accumulating her own riches and knowledge, and she...meets Scrooge every now and then for a quick you know what.
Goldie loves Pearl, but Goldie isn’t maternal. She loves Pearl, but doesn’t love being a mother. She understood what she was giving up, and she doesn’t regret it.
She does regret being vacant throughout Pearl’s life. She reassures herself it was the right decision for both of them. She was raised in love.
Pearl has always been intimidated by Goldie to be honest, and wants her approval. She refers to her as Goldie, and Mother Goldie when she’s annoyed with her.
Pearl is similar to her grandmother. Timid, meek, and shy, she rarely shows excitement for her passions. Goldie is infuriated by this and fears she will end up like her mother.
But it’s that she doesn’t know enough about Pearl to realize she carries Goldie’s grit deep down inside.
Pearl gives birth to a daughter named Amber with an old boyfriend. He isn’t a good man; emotionally controlling. It breaks Goldie’s heart to see her in a situation similar to her mother.
But she doesn’t estrange herself from Pearl. She tells Pearl one time about her feelings on the matter, and that’s it. She tolerates it, and she’s absolutely elated when they break up, leaving Pearl a single parent when Amber is seven.
I don’t want to go into too much detail with my imagined Grandma Goldie Concept, but I’d say she’s similar to Scrooge except she can become a bit of a Wine Grandma every now and then.
Amber’s birth freaks Goldie out. She doesn’t want to be old, but she quickly gets over it.
She doesn’t meet Amber until she’s about five; knowing of her birth through letters.
Goldie isn’t a baby person. She’s a eight and above person. She’s the type of grandma who will help you with career choices and how to deal with a bully. Goldie is a cut throat grandma.
Amber and Goldie click amazingly well. Amber reveals to be a bit more like Goldie on the aggressive side, but occasionally lazy when it comes to chores. She’s a sharp, clever little gal.
Also a little bit insane, that Amber. She’s a gambling woman.
Still owns her hotel in Dawson. She owns some property that helps her fund her adventures.
After separating with Amber’s father, Pearl shacks up with Goldie, and Goldie slowly comes to the realization that she doesn’t know Pearl as well as she thinks she does.
“You fucked McDuck didn’t you?”
“Oh yeah -, wait, what did you ask me?” Goldie pants, “We’re running away from angry, bloodthirsty vampire bats, Pearl!?”
“OH MY QUACK, YOU DID FUCK MCDUCK, DIDN’T YOU. MA’ DIDN’T THINK I’D FIND OUT.”
Goldie and Scrooge are flirt-slap-slap-flirt. Pearl is 100% done with it so is Donald.
“Wait, are they?”
“Yep.”
“YOU OLD MISER, WE ARE ABOUT TO DIE.”
“C’mon Goldie, get us out of these straps!”
“I would if he would take those stinking, chiseled, weak boned fingers off me!”
“As if I’d want to touch your bleach blond, oh so beautiful, dandruff infested hair!”
‘Is death by flirting a thing, Mr. Duck?”
“We’re gonna find out.”
