Dear Journal,
It is fascinating what a good cup of tea can accomplish.
The warmth of the cup in my hands, the smell of tea, spices and freshly ground coffee on the air, the honey sweetness of the people here…all of it help to put me at ease. To place my worries on the back burner and simply be.
My Joe would love and hate this place simultaneously. He would say it is all “fake and manufactured nicety” and that “of course the people are going to be sweet. They want good gratuity.” But I have never found fault in that. Besides, it does not feel like that here. It feels genuine.
Why else would Tabitha (“Call me Tabby, kid.”) tell me all about how she came all the way out here from the Smokies to follow her dreams and escape a stubborn “no good bastard of an ex-husband” and enjoy her life? I had not asked any prying questions. No. I had simply wondered in and I have no doubt that I looked every bit as lost as I felt and she had seen that and held out a hand.
I came in a stranger but I know that I will leave as a friend.
