“Nobody knows,” Amelia grumbled as she sat back down on her bed, eyes flicking up to the nurse who’d just shaved part of her head seconds ago. “Just Owen.”

“Sorry... what?”

“If I wake up, nobody except for my husband know’s ‘til I can verbally ask for them to be told. Got it? Tell Dr. Grey.” Blue eyes looked at each of the nurses, who were all witnesses to her words. “Nobody knows.”

The plan was simple in the beginning; Amelia didn’t want anyone knowing if she was awake. It was the last thing she needed, really. Being ambushed by everyone after waking up from brain surgery? No thanks. There was also the fact that she didn’t want anyone seeing her the way that she was post-op. She was weak, and unable to speak. Had she allowed people to visit her, all anyone could really do was stand in the room and give her pitiful looks, say sad things, and eventually leave. That, and no opioids meant tons of pain. Which pretty much guaranteed that she’d be irritable and not pleasant in the slightest. She didn’t want to be like that around anyone, so the whole ‘nobody knows’ thing seemed like the best solution. 

Until it wasn’t. 

When Amelia woke up nearly 3 days after the operation, everything was worse than she’d imagined. The pain, and the loneliness were anticipated, but their severity wasn’t. Amelia didn’t think that anything would be worse than the time period that she was stuck in the hospital before the surgery... and she was only a little bit right. Some aspects were worse; the anticipation, the sad looks from damn near anyone who walked into the room, the pretending to be strong for everyone, and waiting for her symptoms to worsen— that definitely wasn’t the best of times. But only seeing the same few faces every day, faces that only spoke in medical terms. Sofia aside, only because Sofia was either babbling about whatever was going on in her life, or telling Amelia how everyone was doing.  The potential of going stir-crazy from the lack of actual communication with any of the people that she really wanted to see was useful, though. Amelia used it as motivation to will herself to get better as fast as she could. Which, was much easier said than done. Because the first day and a half that Amelia was awake were absolute hell. But soon enough, Amelia’s scans were absolutely perfect, as were her Neuro work-ups. At first, it was all painful and exhausting— physically & mentally.

Until it wasn’t.

On post-op day 5, Sofia was in her room, badgering her with... whatever the hell that girl was going on about while she was giving Amelia a workup. Or rather, while Amelia was giving herself a workup. Because she honestly had no idea if the resident was even paying attention at that point. Not that she really even needed to, every doctor on the case knew Amelia was doing exceptionally great, all things considered.

"And, honestly, if you think about it, are those things really genetic? ‘Cause now that I know it’s not just my mom, I—“

“Sofia. My scans.”

They quickly continued the rest of the workup, the pushing and the pulling, as Sofia processed Amelia’s words. Brows furrowed as she looked up at Amelia, “I’m pretty sure Lexie already went over them with you earlier and they were all super good...”

“I want my new scans. I want to look at them myself.”

Sofia stepped back a little, her hands falling back down to her sides. “What about... visitors? I know I’m not supposed to push it, but you’re, like... you’re all good now. You were literally cleared to go home.”

“Sofia.”

The younger brunette continued walking backward toward the door. “You don’t even want to see your kids?”

“I want my—” Amelia spat the word out quickly before reaching to her side, picking up a vase from the table in her room she hadn’t even read the card, so she didn’t even know who they were from, and whipped it across the room, “SCANS.”

“I’m getting them.” Tablet hugged tightly against her chest, Sofia pulled the door shut, telling herself she’d clean the mess up later. Or she’d make an intern do it. She’d hardly even made it away from the door before bumping into Lexie, and the words “her motor skills are pristine” slipped past her lips.

It was post-op day 6, secretly-awake-Amelia day 3 when Amelia took one last view of her perfect scans— yet still insisted something was wrong. That same day, Lexie came into her room, setting a jar down on the table attached to her bed, fairly sternly it was what Amelia deserved & needed explaining that that was what was missing. That Amelia was waiting for something to go wrong, but nothing would go wrong—she was safe. The words were the final shove Amelia needed to stop being a pain in the ass. And to let those who deserved to know, those who she missed immensely, that she was awake and could go home.

And that she was safe.

Because now, for the first time in Y E A R S— she was.

[ ooc: just for clarification and detail purposes, we’re gonna bend time and say that Amelia’s surgery was on December 23rd, and she woke up on December 26th.  However, nobody but Lexie, Sof, Owen, the other few medical personnel who needed to know, knew that Amelia was actually awake until the 29th. Which, yes, is A DAY FROM NOW. MOLLY, YOU CANNOT TIME TRAVEL but shh this is the best way for the plot to work for me, and the 29th is probably when I’ll be able to actually manage doing replies on Amelia so it all works out for Moll 10/10 good times. THAT’S ALL!! ]

What’s their occupation? Homie is a resident surgeon.

Hair color? Dark brown with light tones.

Have they ever dyed their hair or wanted to? She’s gotten highlights and ombre type things but there was a point in time where she wanted to dye it probably rainbow or something but she knows damn well that dying a full head of thick dark hair would not be a good time.

Do they have any birthmarks? Uhhh probably but she doesn’t have any that’re prominent or anything like that.

How easy do they get sick? Not very easily but when she does she’s SUPER DRAMATIC.

Any marks on their body ( injuries, … )? She has a slight scar on her chest from when she had heart surgery when she was like 5 weeks old.

How do they usually dress like? When she’s not in scrubs she’s usually in like workout/athletic wear but sometimes she gets super dressed up for absolutely no reason other than the fact that she CAN!!

What is their favorite and least favorite feature about themselves? Her favorite is probably her smile because it’s really bright she probably get it from Arizona somehow and her least favorite is her height maybe?? Like Mark & Callie are pretty tall and she’s NOT she was disrespected by genetics THE NERVE.

Positive traits? She’s intelligent, quick-witted, & caring.

Negative traits? She’s impulsive, stubborn, & really tends to make bad decision like she’s super book smart but not common sense smart at times.

What do they consider to be the best and the worst on their personality? Sofia thinks her drive/stubbornness is the best of her personality, and her worst is that she tends to make really bad decisions.

Any talents? Sofia’s really sneaky/good at messing with people it’s a talent she acquired having many parents. 

What are their fears? Sofia’s fears are kind of the basic things like letting her parents and 254,459 siblings down because she has so many smol siblings and she worries that if she screws up they won’t look up to her or anything like that if that makes sense.

Do they have any phobias? Sciurophobia, and Emiliophobia ( the fear of Amelia Shepherd ).

What is their soft spot? CLAIRE!!! HER SIBLINGS!!! And literally any other child like she loves everyone she probably babysat most of the kids when she was younger she lOBES THEM!!!! SHE PROTECTIVE AF AND SOMETIMES MOTHERLY BECAUSE SHE LOBE THEM LET HER LOBE THE SMOLS

How far did they went in school? Are they still studying? Homegirl hecking got her degree she rolled through med school and now she’s living her best life as a resident.

Do/Did they like school? Sofia really actually loved school because she was super smart and social and had a grand ass time.

What type of student are they? Type A for sure but she wasn’t super annoying she was just a teeeeeeeeny bit of a nerd. She did lots of clubs and stuff too she was super involved 10/10 good Sofia.

What is/was their favorite subject? She’s wanted to be a surgeon since she was a teeny so Sofia’s always loved science mostly because it made sense to her. AND SHE WAS A NERD.

And their least favorite? Uuuuhhhhhh probably math even though she’s smart af it’s tedious and bores her.

Who are your character’s parents? WHO AREN’T SOFIA’S PARENTS!!!?!! She’s got Callie, Arizona, Mark, and Lexie.

How would your character describe them? DAMMIT THIS ABOUT TO BE AN ESSAY HERE I GO: okay so Callie is kind of ( I imagine ) the most authoritative parent and Sofia loves her to death but if she had to decide which parent scared her the most 10/10 would be Callie even though she knows Callie is a sweet kind woman she listens to Callie the best though she’s the one who the other parents would threaten to get if she was being bad as a smol and Sofia would BE GOOD. Arizona is goodcop 100% she’s Sofia’s homie I always imagine them having a really sweet relationship, Arizona’s the one Sofia goes to when she FUCKS UP!!!!! And she knows Arizona will make her feel better or tell her wtf to do. CHEATERS GOTTA STAY TOGETHER!!! MARK O MARK!!!! Sofia loves Mark so much mostly because she knows she’s a lot like him and she loves being around him because they have really complimentary personalities and their egos are HUGE AS HELL AND IT’S A FUN TIME. Lexie smol Lexie, Sofia used to call her ‘my Lexie’ when she was a teeny smol she loves Lexie so much she really really tries to be more like Lexie sometimes because Lexie’s so calm and chill and sweet most of the time and Sofia is typically LOUD AND NOT CHILL AND WILD. When she was little she also was convinced Lexie was a witch/superhero ( it alternated ) because of her photographic memory.

Are they close with their family? Because she was gone for 8 years with some limited contact because she was so damn busy things are a little hmmmmm right now but she’s really trying and it’s all fine because thE LOVE IS STILL THERE SOFIA LOVE HER FAM JAM.

Sometimes they would break up for a week and she’d try to date someone to piss him off but it never worked because they always got back together.

How easy to they fall for someone? Sofia has a really big heart so she always falls for people she probably falls for someone at the grocery store who says ‘have a nice day’.

She’s like slowly coming to the realization that she and Michael didn’t work out because they planned their lives when they were like 16 they didn’t account for the fact that they’d be busy as HECK when they started their internships. They also grew apart HELLA like they got together as teeny smols and now that they’re adults they’re completely different people who just aren’t compatible.

What do they look for in someone? Someone who’s witty and can handle teasing and can make jokes with her, and someone who’s sweet and caring and can put up with her dumbass.

How would your character describe them? She doesn’t have a lot of memories of her dad so if she describes him it’s based off of stories her siblings have told her and they’re always positive. And then Amelia probably talks about her mother like she’s some evil, smothering, satanic woman but she really actually loves & admires her so, so much. She just knows her mom’s a little over-bearing especially when it comes to Amelia, and Amelia knows that her mom has every right to be that way.

Do they have any siblings? WELL. She got Kathleen, Nancy, Liz, and Derek. Plus Meredith and some brother-in-laws.

Are they close with their family? These days she’s really only close with Derek and kind of her mom. She chooses not to talk to her judgey ass sisters when she doesn’t have to.
