“How did you find me?”

Walter honestly has no damn idea how ANYONE would learn what he was so quickly – but also why on earth would a vampire come for him. He heard the rumors. They fell through the cracks like sand and even if he wasn’t truly an active member of the supernatural community, people did talk. Mostly drunks and the likes but there was always some truth to things – even to the craziest of rumors. He had never made any attempt to interact with other supernatural species. He avoided vampires like the damn plague because they were known to be DANGEROUS and UNRELIABLE. He avoided wolves because of what they were. At the very least, the only type of people that he interacted with from the world underneath the world were… well witches.

They were respectful towards nature, they sought to maintain the balance of things. Out of curiosity one day, Walter went to have his fortune read and it would appear that the woman who read it was no phony. She was the real deal. She could read what he was, where he came from, what he could do. She told him about the fork on the road, one where he would have to decide what sort of person he would like to become. If he wanted to embrace what he WAS or if he wanted to play it safe and remain down the same road. Both ideas were confusing for him. Even more so when the concept of embracing what he was terrified him. To become a PREDATOR amidst other PREDATORS? What good would that do?

And now this woman.

She was… dangerous. Walter could tell that only by looking at her. At the way she sat behind the bar, at the smirk on her lips, the confident and sultry pose that she pulled to allure everything with a pulse nearby. Oh, it was working. Walter could see several of the bar patrons turning their heads toward the woman, trying to decide whether or not to try their luck with her. And the worst part? She knew WHAT he was. He had always been so careful with keeping his identity hidden. Never using his powers in public, never going swimming during the day… did she got some witch to track him down? Did he screw up somewhere down the line? “Whatever you are preaching, lady… I’m not interested. I’m sorry.”

Celebrating Black History Month News from the Library of Congress Celebrating Black History Month Friends, In 1926, noted historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson, known as the “Father of Black History,” began a week-long celebration to highlight the achievements of African Americans. He selected the second week in February, as it contains the birthdays of both Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. Several years earlier in 1915, Woodson founded what is today known as the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) after attending an exposition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 15th Amendment and being inspired to more widely share the history and accomplishments of African Americans since slavery – stories that were not discoverable and were not being presented. In 1976, the initial week-long celebration grew into the longer Black History Month celebration that continues to this day. ASALH also continues to honor Woodson’s lifelong mission to honor the study of African American history all year long, year after year. They’ve set the 2021 Black History Month theme as, “The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity.” The Library of Congress holds many varied African American historical resources within our vast collections, including the NAACP Records our largest and most accessed single collection, and we are committed to acquiring more. Last month, we announced a new, multiyear initiative - Of the People: Widening the Path - to create new opportunities for more Americans to engage with the Library and add their perspectives to the Library’s collections, allowing the national library to share a more inclusive American story. By the mid-1940s Scott had become one of the best-known African-American entertainers in the United States, and she gained additional press attention when she married Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. in 1945. Powell was the first African-American congressman from New York, and Scott and Powell each worked to further the causes of social justice and to fight racism and discrimination. Folklorist Camila Bryce-Laporte and fellow artist, Dr. Deborah Grayson, presented several artists from Maryland and the District of Columbia. He can feel the hairs on the back of his neck standing up the moment she speaks to him. It’s something that he cannot control – like when people have a gut feeling about something but they really can’t put their finger on it. There’s something about her that strikes him as FAMILIAR. It takes Walter a couple of seconds to realize that whoever that woman was, she reminded him of his sister. Cynthia could turn up the allure up to eleven without even trying. Unlike him, she was not against resorting to the tricks of their kind to get what she wanted but always with the greater good in mind.

“You are right.” It was for the best to play it safe. Whatever that woman wants – he wouldn’t just be rude to her simply because every cell in his body was telling him to run. There was something familiar in her eyes. A PREDATORY gaze that he had seen countless of times within his own species. They were PREDATORS as well so he could recognize one amidst any crowd. But he would not be rude to someone whom he had just met. Innocent until proven guilty – but that did not mean that he would just lower his guard. The gut feeling remained. A shiver danced down his spine that he quickly ignored. Everything was fine. Everything was fine. Everything was fine.

His gaze finally moves from here and her choice of drink and Walter resumes his work. He can hear the other patrons whispering – they are talking about the woman and how gorgeous she is. That was not a rare occurrence. Every now and then, someone stunning would walk in and the most lonely of patrons would attempt their luck. Offer them a drink, pull a dazzling smile, try to get some that night. That was not the sort of thing that Walter was interested in hearing so he returned to his original station – which was right in front of her. “It’s the first time you come here, isn’t it? I would have remembered your face.” He remembered every single person he had ever served drinks to. It was wise to keep tabs on potential threats. “I’m Walter and I’ll be your bartender tonight.”

Katherine couldn't help the small smirk on her lips as he asked how she'd found him. He seemed exasperated, it was amusing to say the least. He clearly had no idea who she was, even better. It mean's he didn't have any preconceived notions to pin on her.

"What makes you think I want anything? Or that I was even looking for you? All I did was walk into the bar and sit down, that's rather presumptuous to think I was looking for you."
