it’s the 💞gfs💞. from the mouths gives me a lot of mixed feelings and its characters have always been one of my struggles. i just never seem to understand them them beyond a surface level so i don’t know what would be in-character or out of character for them. i’m hoping now that i changed the pov for a clear “adult marjorie is narrating about teenage marjorie” that i’ll actually allow myself to get messy like i did with who cried wolf, because i was too afraid the characters of from the mouths were coming off as unlikeable instead of realistically flawed.

that’s a long-winded way to say that: i’m a terrible mother and i haven’t actually developed the relationship between marjorie and lorelai with the depth that i would like. i have no idea why they like each other, what they dynamic looks like beyond generic interactions and it’s so frustrating. marjorie and lorelai are classmates in the nearby all-girls boarding school, with marjorie being a local to princesa gloria and lorelai coming from out of town. their friendship started off as most of marjorie's friendships do: by being the introvert everyone decides to adopt. as part of the main emotional conflict we have lorelai who’s a living confident/insecure juxtaposition and is very proactive in most aspects, and we have marjorie who avoids confrontation like the plague and would rather let others handle things. the roles only really switch in regard to the murders and any other strange happenings, marjorie will go in head first to look at a dead body while lorelai’s lawful alignment would rather keep a mile radius from all that.

lorelai and marjorie are a reminder that i, in fact, don’t know how allo people work because every bit of conflict or standard romantic scene i try to think of makes me do this face ://. and it also factors that lorelai and marjorie are both my characters instead of me shipping my oc with teddy’s oc.

max, i respect your attempt to narrow down the question. and @azzy-moon-stars too. but i am going to answer all non-spoiler questions instead because i think they are cute!

PRE-RELATIONSHIP

How did they first meet? Lorelai’s adoptive mum, Cecilia, is the one member of the Princess Gloria Coven not related by blood. Cecilia invited the De los Ángeles over to meet her daughter and that’s how she and Marjorie met, they were fourteen.

What was their first impression of each other? Lorelai has one of those charismatic personalities that are kinda scary at first and Marjorie was (and still is) a super quiet kid. Because Marjorie was too young to participate in the Adult Witch Activities she just had to spend time with Lorelai and it took them an afternoon to become friends. Lorelai, being new in town and new to the family, was nervous but Marjorie is easy to talk to and as non-threatening as you can get.

Did any of their friends or family want them to get together? The mums thought it’d be cute.

Who felt romantic feelings first? Lorelai.

Did either of them try to resist their feelings? Nope

If you had told one of them that the other would be their soulmate, what would they think? Lorelai would tell you soulmates are fake. Marjorie would say her soulmate is Archie.

What are their primary love languages? Marjorie is quality time. Lorelai is affirmations.

How often do they cuddle/engage in PDA? Lorelai more than Marjorie, but it’s mostly forehead kisses because of the height difference.

What are their favorite things to do together? They like going on walks, actually! Walking helps Marjorie stay focused on conversation and Lorelai can talk for hours.

Who’s better at comforting the other? Lorelai.

Who’s more protective? Both on equal amounts I would say, I mean the book’s plot is a murder mystery. 

Do they prefer verbal or physical affection? Lorelai: verbal. Marjorie: physical.

What kind of nicknames do they call each other? "mi amor” and “mi vida” from them both, Marjorie also uses “corazón”

DOMESTIC LIFE

If they get married, who proposes? I don’t think they would get married and not because this is the 90s, in my alternative universe there’s no homophobia because I do whatever I want, I just simply think they wouldn’t... but if they did, then Lorelai.

What’s the wedding like? Who attends? Pictured: wedding in a garden, every attendee wears a flower crown, Lorelai wears white but Marjorie wears pastels instead. Tabitha is the ring bearer.

How many kids do they have, if any? What are they like? Marjorie had Tabitha with Archie and she really doesn’t want more kids. Tabitha never comes around with calling Lorelai “mami” but she does call her “Lor”, which if you are a latino kid calling an adult by nickname that is a lot. Same with Elías on Archie’s side! Tabitha never calls him “papi” but does call him “Eli”.

Do they have any pets? I think with Marjorie’s many owls they have enough. Lorelai really likes cats though.

Who’s the stricter parent? Marjorie. Lorelai let Tabitha paint on the walls as a toddler.

Who kills the bugs in the house? Marjorie, she isn’t afraid of critters at all. She wouldn’t kill them though, she would put them outside.

How do they celebrate holidays? Because their families were always so close-knit they continue that tradition with their friends.

Who’s more likely to convince the other to come back to sleep in the morning? Marjorie, not a morning person at all and she likes cuddling. Lorelai usually brings her Tabitha as replacement.

Who’s the better cook? Marjorie. Lorelai is a struggling college student when it comes to cooking.

hello in the twenty minutes since i posted this i figured it out lmao. call it the rubber duck.

so here it is: from the mouths is frame as a adult marjorie clearly narrating about teenage marjorie. how she comes to know lorelai stays the same, they were classmates in boarding school, except this time they are friendly the way you end up being with the people you’ve been classmates with year after year. i think it’s kind of important that marjorie is a fairly isolated person and while the boarding school girls are definitely nicer than the town locals, her only real close friend is archie. there is a plot point that majorly involves lorelai in regards to the murders but i can’t disclose that because [spoilers], but now that she is not friends with marjorie it definitely gets messier. they have no true attachment to each other, what they know of one another is from lunch conversations with the other students of the boarding school or just class in general. marjorie does like hanging out with her, they’re friends by all means but marjorie’s idea of a friend is archie, who’s her ride or die and is just as close a friend as you can get. lorelai is someone she chooses to do worksheets in pairs, to do projects with, to sit during recess with. and this comes in contrast her relationship with adult marjorie, mainly because they have an actual relationship and of the romantic kind.

i think that is all i can say without giving away the twists. this is a murder mystery after all, gotta maintain an air of mystique. the gays win in the end, though. don’t fear.
