Having just been out to the grocery store to pick up ingredients to make dinner, Essie was starting to unpack everything and get her bearings in the kitchen. It wasn’t anything extravagant, but she tried to make dinner on the days she knew Sanem and Alli were out working just to help out in any small way that she could. She was well on her way through the process when she heard the front door open up, head peeking around to see Sanem coming through. “Hey, you hungry? I’m making dinner if you want any,” she offered, hoping her cousin would come and join her so she at least didn’t have to eat alone. As much as she was trying to stay out of the house and be as little a nuisance as she possibly could, Essie wanted to spend as much time with her family as she could. She craved any semblance of normality that she could find after being isolated for so long from anyone that she cared about. “I got dessert too. If you have time.”

The fact that her and Sanem were the only two adults amid a crowd of teenagers didn’t at all deter Mack from being ready to rumble when it came to their paintball shenanigans. Afternoon drinks had gotten them well and drunk enough to think it was a great idea to up and head over to the paintball course for a round of fun. “Girl, this is the best idea you’ve had in a long time,” Mack grinned, bouncing eagerly as they suited up in the pads that they’d rented for their adventure out into the paintball course. They’d been placed in a team with a few others, but Mack wasn’t there to play on a team, she was there to crush anyone and everyone. The competitive flair was already coming out as she loaded up the paintballs into her gun, eyes flickering towards their competition with a steely gaze. “I’m going to absolutely fucking destroy these kids. San, I love this and I love you. Drinks were great, but this? Peak entertainment.”

Location: Goldilox & the 3 Bagels 🥯
@sanem-reid
John was always stoked when he got the chance to spend some time with Sanem but they hadn’t really gotten to yet after the wedding which led to him desperately trying to find a time that’d work for the two of them, so they could catch up a little. Goldilox & the 3 Bagels always seemed like a solid choice and John was more than happy to meet Sanem there for a quick bite and a quick check-in.
With the two of them settled across from each other, John couldn’t help but beam at her, even more so when his eyes fell on the beautiful ring that finally graced her finger and he reached out tentatively, taking her hand in his to bring it in a little closer so he could get a better look. “It’s gorgeous,” the man mumbled, genuine awe lacing his tone before his eyes met Sanem’s again. “So – how does it feel to be a married woman?” He teased lightheartedly.

“Hold that thought.” It’s what he’d said to her before he’d disappeared past a group of people (as much as one could disappear at his height anyway), and not two minutes later he’d reappeared, slightly winded but in good spirits as always when around those he considered a friend in Crescent Harbor. Nicolas is lucky to be able to call her a friend at all, but his desire to win over everyone he could (as friends, as lovers, as business partners) was one he could never ignore. What he returns with is a gift given on a whim, not a holiday present but merely something he thought to do— especially in case they sold out of their stock. “I’ll let you have this, if you help me out.” The bottle’s already in a tote for him to pass off to her, and though she’s yet to agree, he passes it off already. “I don’t have a wreath for my door yet. Could you help me make one? Or pick one out for me?”

“Alright, here we go – got your poison of choice and mine. I have a feeling I should’ve gotten a double but it’s a weekday and I’m trying to be responsible or whatever to keep my sad excuse for a job. Hey, I got us shots though. If you don’t want one, no big deal, I got it,” Sam rambled, winking at his last comment now that he’d returned to his and Sanem’s table at On the Rocks. Having had his own things to deal with, he had to admit that he wasn’t really up to date with the recent developments in her life so catching up with Sanem seemed like the right call and he was happy to see her after running into her only briefly at the carnival. “Next time you fuck off to Disney, at least have the decency to ask if I wanna tag along. You know rides are my thing but all I got were the ones I’ve been riding for like two fucking decades,” he joked with a broad grin, dragging a hand through his hair to get rid of the strands falling into his face as he settled across from her, eyes fixed on Sanem’s as he started stirring his drink with its straw. The ice cubes were clinking against the glass when he tilted his head expectantly, brows raised in interest. “How was it? I want to know it all. Even the nitty-gritty. I gotta live through someone who actually got out of this town for once so…”

A few days back into the groove of regular life, Kaiya had run out of things to entertain herself with. Rather than finding something productive to do, she instead had made her way downtown to post up at one of the local bars for awhile and have a few drinks. Things around town had changed to an impressive degree since leaving for the Army so many years before and, of course, at just eighteen she’d never spent a lot of time drinking around town, so she settled for the first place that she could find. Nudging the door open carefully, she made her way inside on the crutches she was still stuck with, taking a look around before heading towards the bar. It didn’t take long after ordering her first drink to spot another familiar face settled just a few seats away. “Well, damn. I was wondering when I’d be blessed enough to run into you around town, San. Three days back without seeing you? Far too long,” she called out before shifting over a few seats towards the woman. “How’s life been treating you since I saw you last?”

TIMELINE: Thursday, April 23rd, 2020.
LOCATION: Shaken and Stirred, Sunstone Beach.
STATUS: Closed for @sanemreid.
Tumblr media
Delaney sat at the bar, eyes trained on her phone. For nearly an hour, she’d waited on the arrival of one of her colleagues. One martini had turned into two, and by the time the text message apology had arrived, announcing that the intended babysitter had fallen through, Delaney had a buzz going. It seemed like such a waste to spend the effort put into selecting a dress and fixing her hair and make-up, so she plucked up her phone up and began to cycle through her contacts, searching for someone to join her, lest she spend another hour drinking by her lonesome. As she narrowed her options, a figure approached the bar a few seats down and placed their order with one of the impeccably-dressed bartenders. The voice was unmistakable. Sanem. “Shouldn’t you be at home on bed rest?” Delaney asked in place of a proper greeting, only vaguely serious but regretting the remark as soon as it left her mouth. She’d heard of the woman’s injuries in passing from Santiago. And, well, gin had a way of loosening her tongue, which only enabled her nosiness.

BIOGRAPHY (trigger warnings: infertility, death)
Born to parents who were hardly out of their teens, though very much in love, Mehmet Bayrak and Hazal Erdoğan had been elated to find out they were expecting. Both however came from exceptionally traditional households, neither side exactly being supportive to the facts that the pair were planning to raise a child so young and unmarried. They had thought about simply breaking away and being a family on their own, however quickly realized they didn’t have the means at the time to be able to provide for their daughter in a way they wished. After heavy consideration, both came to the conclusion that what would be best for her in the end, would be to give her up for adoption, and to a family that would hopefully give her an amazing home and life. Enter Lawrence and Alanah Reid; a couple hailing from the US who were looking to expand their own little family, already having a three year old son Landon. Though due to complications from that pregnancy Alanah suffered from secondary infertility, and they were unable to conceive more. After looking into what options they had, adoption came out as the clear winner. Sanem had been only a few months old when the Reid’s officially brought her into their lives, as her mom would always remind her, the moment they laid eyes on her, they knew she was meant to be part of their family.
Thanks to their respective careers, as a business consultant, and travel photographer &author, the family moved around quite a lot over the years, allowing Sanem to call various different cities and towns home over the course of her childhood. The constant bouncing around never bothered her truthfully, it was always exciting to end up somewhere new and experience a variety of different cultures. More especially when she was old enough to fully appreciate it all, something her parents encouraged she and her brother to do. The only true complaint she’d have was always having to say goodbye to the new friends she’d make along the way. As well as eternally grateful for each place introducing her to something they share both similarly and uniquely that she’d come to fall in love with, music and dance. The former of which gave way to the latter quickly; something that encapsulated the essence of her personality too well, wild, carefree, and expressive. Dance, after all, is the hidden language of the soul.
At the age of fifteen however, part of her world came shattering apart when her mother ended up passing away. They’d been in Argentina at the time, Alanah was out with a crew to capture photos for a new travel guide, out near Iguazu falls. Parts of the area were of course much more slick than others, and regardless of how often she’d done the same exact thing, and cautious they all were, accidents unfortunately happen. She ended up slipping off one edge, the impact of the fall and time it took rescue efforts to get to her, quickly as they could, it was too late. Needless to say Sanem, her brother and father, were completely devastated by the loss. The three of them made their way back to her parents original hometown of Crescent Harbor, for the funeral. After which Lawrence had decided to root them all back in town, trading in his consultant job for an executive position at a company in Portland, for the foreseeable future.
The permanent change of scenery was certainly something to get used to, especially when she ended up withdrawing into herself, burying her exuberant demeanor for a more reticent one, and losing her drive for dance as well. It was still a passion of course, and every so often she’d pop by the local studio, though any time she was asked if she wanted to join in on classes she turned the offer down. A funk that followed her much through high school, till her father, seeing how lost she was, and the spark drain from her eyes, finally sat down to have a heart to heart, the best to his abilities, to help pull her back. Reminding her while he knew what she was going through, that her mother would want her to keep following her dream, and live life, just as they always advocated for their kids growing up. That Sanem would always be looking down as proudly as she ever did. While it wasn’t an instant recovery, his words did resonate, and slowly but surely her old self began to break back to the surface.
It started with her finally opting to participate in dance classes, rather than sit as a bystander, finding her rhythm once more, which never truly escaped her in the first place. Talent speaking for itself, after just a few Sanem was offered a job as an instructor. Teaching various styles she was fluent in; from hip hop ( her main one ) to jazz, Latin to fusion. Creating a YouTube channel in this time as well, at first to showcase her classes, then after a few requests to post tutorials, they came along next. Her videos ended up gaining a good amount of traction, for her to be invited to an LA based studio to collaborate on new routines. From there she was back into a life of hopping around the globe, whether teaching at various different studios, choreographing for an artist as requested, or appearing on World of Dance. Yet still kept herself based in Crescent Harbor, she’d grown attached to the town. Not to mention the owner of the studio whom she’d grown a close friendship with, announced he’d be moving away after getting married, and handed the keys over to her.
In the midst of everything, Sanem had made the choice to seek out her birth parents, a thought that came with some initial hesitance of course. She’d always been curious about them, and wondered why they gave her up and only more recently worked up the courage to find answers. Since the adoption was open, it didn’t take much sleuthing to find them and get into contact. Mehmet and Hazal were completely over the moon she wanted to meet, upon doing so she learned just how hard it was for them to let her go, and that they never once forgot her. Since then she’s kept in contact with them, and made trips back to Turkey a couple times to visit and learn more about her biological family.

Sanem Pelliser-Reid
Name: Sanem Pellisier - Reid
Date of Birth: March 15th, 1991
Age: 30
Gender/Pronouns: Cis woman / She / Her
Occupation: Owner of Momentum & Dance Entrepreneur
Hometown: Konak, İzmir, Turkey
Length of time in King’s Head Harbor: 15 years
Faceclaim: Melisa Aslı Pamuk
BIOGRAPHY ( Trigger Warning: infertility, adoption, parental death, injury. )
Originally born as Sanem Yasemin Günay, in the İzmir province of Turkey, to Mehmet Günay and Hazal Toktaş, two people who at the time of discovering they’d been expecting were fresh out of their teens and in university. Though both were very much in love and elated to find out they’d be parents, reality was quick to rear it’s ugly head in the form of not entirely accepting families. Both of which deeply seeded in traditions that raising a child so young and unmarried went against and hardly on the best terms with one another as it is. Little to no support meant they’d be on their own in raising her, the thought of which they tried their hardest to feasibly plan out, but would prove to be more difficult the closer their baby was to arriving. Ultimately leading them to a difficult decision, they hoped would only be more beneficial for her to have an incredible life, putting Sanem up for adoption.
Enter Lawrence and Alanah Reid, a couple hailing from the U.S. that were looking to expand their little family, as they’d already had a three year old son, Landon. However because of complications Alanah suffered from secondary infertility and was unable to conceive more. They’d tried just about every option available until finally looking at adoption being a clear winner to fulfill their wishes. The moment they saw the doe-eyed baby girl from the agency, they knew she was meant to be part of their family. Sanem had been a few months old by the time everything was signed and she'd officially been brought home with them as a Reid. Though they agreed they still wanted her to have a close connection to where she came from, keeping both her first and middle name given by her birth parents. As well as being raised speaking Turkish and English as both her native tongues, the former of which her family had learned along with her.
Because of her parents respective careers, with Lawrence as a business consultant and Alanah a travel photographer, for pretty much all of her childhood they were able to call various places around the world home. At least, for the duration they found themselves at each, some longer than others. The consistent moving around didn’t bother her, in fact it helped her develop an appreciation for all the different cultures they were able to experience, more especially as she got older and could fully appreciate them. The only drawback she supposed was having to say goodbye to the friends she made along the way. And the one thing high up on the list of reasons she was grateful for each destination introducing her to in such similar yet unique aspects; were music and dance. The latter of which quickly enveloping her passion for the two and truly encapsulated the essence of her personality so well; wild, carefree and expressive. After all, there’s a reason dance is the hidden language of the soul.
At the age of fifteen however, part of her world came shattering apart when her mother ended up passing away. The result of a freak accident while they were in Argentina, and Alanah was out working on a shoot near Iguazu Falls where much of the rock side had been slick. Unfortunately she ended up slipping off, by the time rescuers were able to safely get to her it’d been too late. To say that she, her father and brother had been devastated by the loss would far be an understatement. The three of them made their way back to King’s Head Harbor, where her parents were originally from, for the funeral. After which, Lawrence made the choice to take on a business executive position at a company in Providence, therefore settling them down permanently in the town.
The change of scenery was certainly something to get used to, more so when Sanem began to withdraw into herself, burying her once exuberant demeanor for one more reticent. As well as losing her drive for dance, despite the love for it still burning underneath. It was a funk that followed her through high school, at least until the guiding help of her new best friend and family, namely her father who saw that spark drain from her eyes, sat her down for a heart to heart. To the best of his abilities anyhow, reminding her how much her mother would want her to keep living life and following her dream, just as they’d always advocated her and Landon to do growing up. That Alanah would be looking down a proudly as she ever did. Though it wasn’t an instant recovery, his words did resonate, and slowly but surely her old self began to come back towards the surface.
Initially it started by getting back into dance classes at a local studio, reclaiming her craft once and finding that rhythm once again, which never truly eluded her. Upon graduating high school she’d forgone college in favor of jumping into a instructor position, while also focusing on various competitions, including the World of Dance tour. Along with starting up a YouTube channel to showcase her classes as well as tutorials for many of the routines she’d choreographed. Eventually gaining quite a lot of traction that got her invited to more well known studios from New York to Los Angeles to collaborate on routines, expanding her teaching globally in places like Seoul, Amsterdam and Barcelona. Deciding to keep herself based out of King’s Head Harbor, having grown more attached to the town over the years, plus being home to her family and friends. She opened up her own studio dubbed, Momentum, which had been a dream ever since she was younger.
Some time after her 21st birthday, Sanem had decidedly gotten into contact with her birth family, something she’d always been curious though hesitant over, burning questions as to why they’d given her up in the first place. It didn’t take much sleuthing to find their contact information, landing herself at their doorstep in İzmir. Mehmet and Hazal had been overjoyed she wanted to get to know them, learning just how hard it’d been for them to let her go, and never once had they forgotten her. Since then it’s been a process in gradually opening up to her biological family, making trips back whenever possible, though has found a easier time forming a relationship with her younger brother Ozan and sister Damla.
Three years ago the epitome of the phrase ‘fate works in mysterious ways’ seemed to descend on her life and in truth, she couldn’t have been more grateful to the fact for many reasons. The biggest being a girl from her past, someone she’d only known for a few summers at a town in Washington where her parents seemed to love vacationing, sharing snacks and laughs along the boardwalk, whom she simply knew by the nickname she’d given, sarı papatyam. Until one momentous gala years later saw their paths crossing once again and she was reacquainted with Allison Pellisier, the woman who would become her guiding light. During the pain of another who only sought to treat her like a game, or the time after a freak accident during a show she’d been a guest performer for with a group, lead to a broken arm that benched her from dancing for a couple months. Of which a true testament to her emotional stress, even when during also came the creation of her second business venture, RYTHM online academy. But Allison, stuck by her side with a care and warmth that captured her heart and after a year of a deepening romance, that many may say was fast but either knew in their souls to be it, they were married. Now continuing to build a life and future with her wife in Sandport Village, including the very anticipated arrival of their first child, Sanem is ready more than ever for the new adventures that await.

A part of her knew that the dancer couldn’t help herself, it was like asking a toddler to sit still if only for a moment. But as of now Sanem was on strict orders to rest, and that included being in the duties of decorating their christmas tree this year. The lawyer could see a pout was inevitable, but with Milo and Cairo running in to gently paw at Sanem’s feet, Allison couldn’t help but chuckle before she gently coaxed her to sit back down, right before she set the turkish desserts down on the table. “Look, it’s your favorite. Enjoy this and I’ll handle you more strings to untangle,” Allison urged, canting her head to the side. “Once the little one is here, maybe, just maybe we’ll go sky-diving. But we’ll re-evaluate.” She said.

Sitting at the dining room table, Essie was deeply concentrated on the house of cards that she was building out of sheer boredom. It was several levels high at that point, a feat which she was thoroughly proud of. “I think I’m going to need a second deck soon,” she mumbled lazily to her cousin as she climbed up onto the chair to start placing the next card up on top. “I learned the trick to this in prison. I guess it wasn’t all bad there.” It was the smallest of things she could look to as a good outcome, but she was trying to focus on the positives where she could. Placing the next few cards as gently as possible, Essie beamed and got back down from the chair, looking up at the ever growing tower with a pleased grin. It was a useless skill, but it gave her something to do when she was out of work so that had to count for something. “What are you doing today?”

With the wedding over and Sanem back from the honeymoon it hadn’t taken long before the two had made plans to hang out. While Riley hadn’t started out the evening intending to get completely hammered, that’s exactly where she’d ended up. A shot between games of darts and pool had turned into two...into three...and eventually Riley had just stopped counting. Sitting at the bar next to Sanem, Riley was zoned out, head bobbing to the beat of the music. Blinking for a moment, she turned back to her friend, realizing that Sanem had been saying something. “I - think I am drunk,” Riley blurted out with a laugh, her head spinning a bit from the quick turn towards Sanem. Slumping down a bit, she leaned over against the bar, blinking her eyes rapidly. “We should go...somewhere. Dancing. A strip club. I have dollars. No. Food. Pancakes. Wait. Better idea, we should go to the aquarium.” Riley’s words were tumbling out at a mile a minute, her brain jumping from one thought to the next on a whim. She went through phases when she was drunk, oscillating between zoning out and bursts of energy that just left her excited before eventually she crashed down into a weepy mess at some point in the night.

Location: John & Quinn’s Apartment 🏡
@sanemreid
With everything that had been going on in those past weeks, John felt like he’d not only neglected his own need to unwind and feel calm but also his social life which was, as much of an introvert as he was, never any less important to him. Spending time with Sanem was always something he looked forward to, whether they’d see each other at random, taking walks with the dogs or doing so together, or if it was something as simple as having coffee together. She’d become an important figure in his life, when he’d least expected it, though that seemed to have been an ongoing theme for the past year.
Now, the dish he’d prepared was simmering on the stove, almost ready to be served as he’d tried his best to step up his cooking game, thanks to Sanem’s patience and their shared interest in trying out new things. He almost felt a sense of pride being able to present her something that wasn’t as basic as his cooking used to be but even more so, he was excited to catch up with her now that he felt more like himself again. The anger and frustration had finally subsided and the atmosphere in Quinn’s and his home became more relaxed again. He’d gone all out, knowing that he didn’t need to, not for her but he still felt like it. Having just set the table and giving it a once over, John smiled to himself when Merlot and Sable were suddenly alert by someone on the door, making him turn and make his way over even before Sanem rang the bell and without hesitating, he pulled the door open with a broad beam. “Hi!” The man greeted her excitedly. “Come on in! Make yourself at home. You know the drill.”

where: Somewhere Downtown  with: @sanem-reid
Her facial features seemed familiar, but with the way it had tones for black, gray, and white, he wouldn’t have known it was an old friend until she’d said his name. Hanging out with Sanem was something he’d done in the peak of nights perusing bars to meet with Tinder dates, often times it was a blessing especially when things had failed to launch to the levels he was willing to go. That and they had the bond of fighting an absolute asshat who swore up and down that Sanem could end up being the love of his life after just being on two dates. As she turned however, he was a little alarmed to see the protruding belly, his jaw slacked slightly as he laughed. “Has it been that long since I’ve last seen you?” He asked as he leaned in for a brief hug. “I believe a congratulations is in order, can I ...get you an apple juice?”
