I sincerely hope this isn't a weird question, but I'm still really new to the rpc and I don't know what the best course of action is;;

If someone's just turned 18, like, within the year, would it be ... weird? For them to start trying to interact with sfw blogs who have 'minors dni' already?

I know that it's for their own comfort and I reallly don't wanna cross any boundaries, even accidentally. I'd rather not skirt by a DNI because of a technicality or whatever. Thanks in advance !!

oh my gosh, love, this isn't a weird question at all!!! there's no such thing as weird or "wrong" questions here, okay? let's make that very clear before i answer! this is a safe place for people to ask any and all questions they may have; even if it takes me a while to answer them!

but in answer to your question, i don't think it's wrong! once you are indeed over 18, you're good to go! although, i will strongly urge you to take your time and test the waters for yourself. the leap from 17 to 18 in terms of the tumblr rpc is a MASSIVE one in relation to the content you might be exposed to! fortunately, many people mention in their rules whether or not certain kinds of content will appear prominently in their works, but nevertheless! there's no shame nor strangeness in taking things slow.

you mentioned that you're new to the rpc! do you know about the tag filtering system? if you click the little icon right next to the blue pen in the top right hand corner of your screen, and go into settings, you can scroll down until you see something called "filtered tags", and you can enter in the tags you want to avoid! i'm going to pop a few popular tags below so you can use the format, it's just so like, if you didn't want to see any content relating to, socks, for example, you can put "socks" into the filtered tags thing and you won't see any posts that have socks in their tags! here's some popular formats:

now, there are people who use different formats, but these are the popular ones! i think the "// ____" one cancels out any posts that have tags with that word in it regardless, so like, someone might put "i don't know if shrek wears socks" in the tags, but you won't see it bc they used the word "socks", you know? i could be wrong though, nonnie, so hopefully someone will correct me in the comments if i am incorrect!

as far as the ns.fw content goes, there are other tags, bc tumblr is a curious place, so here's some for that content!

nsft stands for "not suitable for tumblr", i think it's a good one! the citrus system can be confusing, so i just use citrus on my tags as a cover-all, but you can filter those tags too so you don't see anything too raunchy!

i hope all of this was helpful for you, my love! basically, you're totally fine to follow people once you're over 18. now, there are some blogs that have 21+ and even 25+ depending on their preferences, but it's the same thing. you could be 18 years and one second old, and you're still okay to follow people with the 18+ limits! of course, read the DNIs if they have one, but you're totally fine once you follow their rules!
