past laena was born out of an affair between her father, a wealthy businessman, and her mother thea. while there was nothing material she ever wanted for, she didn't have the standard childhood one would with both parents. she was born in the united states, but spent her time back and forth between the states and the uk as her father had placed her and her mother in homes in both places in order to see her from time to time. laena's mother took a liking to the uk and remained in london when she was sent to the academy. before then, she would visit her grandmother in maine during the summers.

academy years at the academy, laena felt entirely out of place. she often sought out non-profit organizations to volunteer for, and was a devoted member of many clubs that were dedicated to helping the less fortunate, and fundraising for a number of causes. she was also a star cross country runner, a hobby that she has maintained to this day as an avid marathon runner. during her academy years, she dated conall blackbar for a while, before they parted ways amicably upon graduation. it was also at the academy, where she finally met the half-brother she knew she had, and felt like she had found a piece of her life that she had been missing for something.

present after the academy, laena attended university at yale, where she earned her bachelors of science in public health. around this time is when laena met cedric tyrell, someone she connected with on a deep level, and when the relationship ended, she fell into a bit of a spiral. this period in her life was marked with poor choices, including a one night fling with her half-brothers friend, garrick. laena was able to bring herself up out of this state, and after working briefly for a non-profit, laena decided to join the peace corps and served with them for 2 years. when she left the corps, she decided to reapply to yale for her master's, and is currently a student there.

she takes his phone when handed to her, but there’s a brief moment of hesitation before she enters her contact information again, deciding when inputting her name to not include an emoji like she normally might. "you may regret this, i’ll be expecting detailed critiques of each song. it’s her best album yet, i think." laena hands the phone back to him with a grin

there's a fond look on her face now in remembrance of that day. "it was madness, and genius, i think. i got a load of bracelets from that day. i fear if she ran for president, no one else would have a chance." and she’s entirely joking, eyes looking from him back to the yearbook now, but then she looks up, curiosity filling her features at how much he knew about the country. "i believe this one is based in namibia, though i suppose if i end up there, i’ll have to make my way around. i haven’t been to a good beach in ages." the east coast had beautiful beaches, but she often found it too chilly to enjoy it as much as she would in a warmer climate.

laena takes a silent inhale, unsure if her assumption bothered him, but trying not to take it too much to heart. these were the conversations she always enjoyed having with him, missed it, even "yeah, change is never comfortable, but the impact can be worthwhile." she offers a small smile with the advice before turning her attention to the class photo. "hey, i still love that book. jane eyre, pride and prejudice, little women. absolute classics." her eyes scan the page, and she points to him. "what book would you hold up, if you chose to?" there’s a hint of challenge to her tone, but her face emphasizes the relaxed nature of the conversation. "can tell a lot about the way one thinks from there favorite book, yeah?"

he catches her glance of mock shock, his brows furrowing slightly as though to pretend to be overly apologetic. "haven't gotten around to it yet, but i've heard mixed things. remind me later on where should i start?" and he takes out of his phone, passing it to her - it was open to the add a contact page. "i saw loads of videos of people doing that, just waiting outside - there was a massive hill outside munich's stadium, it looked like madness to be honest. fun though."

and he nodded slightly at her words, hardly surprised by them at all - she would feel that way. the smallest, most simple things in life were always the things she focused on the most. what was supposed to be necessary. "where about in africa? not trying to suggest a holiday early, but a trip to tanzania for the safari and then zanzibar for the beaches is well worth your time."

"you're fine...it's fine." and he only nods slightly at her words, holding her gaze at the term admirable. it didn't feel that way, it felt like it would be a mighty challenge. one he knew he was ready for, but one he knew would change his life forever if he continued to pursue it. "sometimes we got to seek discomfort to do anything, right? so here we are." and he changed the page again, it landing on their english literature class. it made him laugh slightly, considering they were both in the same class; just at different sides of the picture.

BACKGROUND

Garrick was the fourth child in his family, following the twins, Erryk and Arryk, and his only sister, Amelia.

His family was working-class for most of his upbringing until they met Jaehaerys Targaryen's family. They employed his father and mother and because of them, the Cargylls began to get by much more comfortably in life.

After finishing school, Erryk and Arryk decided to found a private security firm, with most of their jobs related to the Targaryen family. Because of the money they brought in, they were able to support Garrick in his last years of school and managed to get him enrolled in the boarding school in Vermont.

During those years at the boarding school, Garrick was known as someone who was there mostly to do well in extracurriculars like horseback riding, mixed martial arts, and fencing but struggled with his studies. He managed to graduate only because those friends who were cleverer than him really supported him in his studying for finals.

After graduation, he returned to England and continued to train to gain the necessary skills to work at the Cargyll Private Security firm. With Arryk and Erryk coaching him, he rose through the ranks and was known as an equally capable guard as his brothers.

He's done many jobs over the years for high-profile individuals in Europe and America. To this day he keeps a close affiliation with Jaehaerys' family, not only professionally, but considers them to be as close to him as his own family.

RELATIONSHIP HISTORY

He was in an on-again off-again relationship with Emira Mallister for a while. They had a passionate relationship and everything was very intense between them, both the good and the bad. He never mentioned this to Emira and never will, but he was somewhat attracted to her sister Ayca and that might have been a reason why ended up pulling back.

He had a one-night fling with Laena Oldflowers.

He's currently in a relationship with Ginevra Templeton. Garrick was hired by Percy to look after Gin and eventually, some feelings began to bloom between them. Ginevra's brother found out recently and is in the process of terminating Garrick's contract since the bodyguard he hired is now dating his sister.
