Random Fates Thing I Love

(Fates spoilers for those who might be playing it for the first time)

One of my favorite things about Conquest’s story is how at chapter 27, it’s not Corrin nor Azura that inspired the other siblings to face false Garon. 

It’s Xander.

The Crown Prince who believed he had the responsibility to carry out the King’s orders because that was expected, who believed the father he loved and admired would come back, who believed everything would turn out no matter how much hardship and evil he had to endure and be apart of. 

It’s his moment of realization, of coming to terms with the fact that his wishes won’t be realized, of finally wrestling his inner demons to the ground and saying enough once he sees the truth baring its fangs at him. That is what causes Camilla, Leo and Elise to do the same. That is what turns the Grim Yato into the Shadow Yato i.e. what makes Xander a hero.

That’s why to me, Conquest is just as much Xander’s (and the Nohr sibs’) story as much as it is Corrin’s, maybe even more so. And it’s moments like that really helped me love Fates.

finally wrote up my fe fates thoughts

spoilers and wild tangents below.

- when lilith started explaining the astral plane I was like “don’t worry I know what goes on here, love that ancient hp fandom drama” AND THEN YOU ACTUALLY DO MARRY SOMEONE ON THE ASTRAL PLANE

- …is there any reason azura couldn’t have been the playable main character? what if fates let you customize corrin but whoops they fuse with yato right before the route split and azura takes up the sword. she could still talk to corrin in my castle (and maybe the hoshido & nohr siblings could too?) so azura gets a sword friend and lives the dream. yes this is a transistor au that I’m too lazy to write.

- or just have fates be one game where corrin is aware of the different timelines… like how flynn in smt iv gets to see the outcomes of law & chaos before committing to a side.

- my main issues with all 3 routes’ stories all have to do with investment. character deaths had so little weight; I wasn’t affected at all when flora and lilith died (and I knew to a-support kaze ahead of time) just because I had no real opportunity to get to know them beforehand. and poor scarlet deserved better.

- going off of that I really think they should have let lilith fight in the main campaign and support with corrin, jakob, felicia, flora, and maybe the royal siblings? “oh lizard friend died. I fed her a shit ton of rice/cabbages” was my eulogy for her when she died. and I was expecting her to show up in battle sometime in rev but she never did? she should have been able to help out in the endgame.

- corrin-only supports are :\ and I would much rather have a handful of solid support conversations than a ton that mostly rely on a character’s gimmick. I have no problem with the c support being “oh felicia you’re so clumsy lol” but when it goes on for three more rounds it just seems like lazy writing. and I hate having to either dig around on the internet to see who has good supports or just blindly hoping the characters aren’t going to make the same jokes over and over again.

- there are so many supports that seemed logical but just weren’t in the game? orochi and reina? shura and azura? the royal sibs who just don’t talk to each other for whatever reason? (camilla & azura comes to mind but I think there’s others.)

- there’s no reason there couldn’t have been more same-sex corrin supports when a bunch of a supports felt like lead ups to s ones anyway. all of the neutral characters should have been able to support with both corrins AT LEAST.

- maybe other people use the roster more efficiently than I do but there were just way too many characters for me to even attempt to level evenly. by the end of rev I was pretty much using just royals and silas. 

- royal sibs are… ??? I enjoy them in fan works and I like thinking about ways to expand on them but it seemed like they got barely any development except takumi I guess? I really like the idea of ryoma as this distant idealized older brother who doesn’t really know his younger siblings but I felt like there wasn’t enough of that going on in the main story. same with the nohr sibs, what pieces of their background you get are fascinating but have little to do with the story itself.

- I liked most of the kids but they felt like shoehorned-in filler. and most of these characters shouldn’t even be having kids jesus

- this is the me yelling about how conquest should have been a nohrian civil war campaign instead bullet point

- I wish you got to see evil dad as not evil at some point in the story. his spooky goo form is just :\ when that’s all you’ve known him as throughout the game anyway.

-anankos’s weird mask form and eyeball mouth dragon form were both really neat.

- again, azura should have been the main character.

( Kagura is the type that doesn't like lingering on things. She doesn't like to live in the past. However, being betrayed by anyone would hurt a lot regardless.

If a friend betrays her, it'll hurt. A LOT. She sees her friends as family basically, and for one of them to turn on her, treat her badly, etc... She's going to be torn over it. The most she'll do is probably punch them depending on what's been done to her, but she'll likely move on. Growing up, she always cried over everything so she tells herself all the time that it's not worth crying anymore. Not over someone who treats her badly especially. She'll do her best to just move on and forget, but if this is someone she's known for a while? Then it's going to sting for a while. This could go for platonic or romantic.

If the person is blood, Kamui That's something that'll be a lot harder to move on from. But depending on the situation, she'll try talking to them to see what happened. The likelihood of her father or Kamui ever betraying her is very little, but if it ever was to occur she'll try to smack sense into them. It's a lot harder for her to get over betrayal by her actual family. Hell, if Kamui never came around she would've went to the ends of the earth just to keep on convincing him to be her family again. It'll be really hard to accept betrayal from either of those two. She wouldn't be able to get over it. No matter what anyone says, and no matter how unreasonable it may seem. To her, friends can sometimes be temporary, but family is literally forever. )

( OH BOY. You already know this guy is a mess. Trust is literally everything to him. attaining it is literally a mission in itself. Because betrayal is the exact thing he's afraid of. It's exactly why he doesn't like letting people in. When he found out about his dad hiding what was going on with his mother, that felt like betrayal. It definitely hurt a lot. This man. A man he looked up to so highly, was someone he striven to be like, kept such a huge secret from him. Kamui was so torn up about it, that he lost all respect for his father. He really will kill him if he experiences any kind of betrayal from him again. The only reason Umibozu is still alive is because of Kagura keeping them both in line.

Betrayal by family would genuinely hurt him a lot. Kagura is the only blood he does have complete trust in. If she was to betray him, he'd probably be crushed. He'd end up losing it. The thing is, despite his usual solution being to kill, he still couldn't bring himself to kill Kagura. Even if she did the worst thing imaginable to him, he still couldn't do it. He could never bring himself to kill his little sister. Had it been anyone else? Yeah. But Kagura was someone who made him have faith in others again, thinking maybe it was okay to trust, and keeping himself closed out from everyone wasn't the best solution. To be betrayed by her would hurt beyond belief, his will to live had already dwindled due to the guilt he's felt over his mother, betrayal from his sister would do him in at that point.

If we're talking friends, lovers, he would just kill them. Kamui even developing friendships/romantic relationships is a miracle in itself because of how hard it is to just befriend him. Kagura really is like the only person he trusts, as well as Abuto, though Kagura he trusts more on an emotional level and unless someone actively makes the effort to get to know him, and can endure his harsh words and attempts to push others away, befriending him is impossible. Trust from him needs to be earned, and betraying that trust will cost a person their life. When Kamui loves, he loves really hard. He puts his everything into anyone he loves. Friend, family, and partner. Even if he kills them, it's going to hurt a lot afterwards. It's hard for him to move past anything that's hurt him emotionally. He'll grieve what he lost. The memories, the smiles shared, the laughs, he'll never be able to get over it. He'll probably end up so overwhelmed by all of his unbearable emotions, he'll just break and completely lose it. He's not good at handling his feelings, especially the sad ones. They're always intense and hard to handle, and as much as he wants to pretend he's empty and emotionless, he's probably even more emotional than his sister. Moving on is something nearly impossible. )

( I was thinking hard about it, and to be honest... I think he'd like... soothing, relaxing music? He'd probably really prefer songs where women are singing really calming type music. I'm not the most knowledgeable with different genres, so I'm not sure what that would be called. But I heavily headcanon his mother used to sing to him when he was younger, and he likes music that sounds similar to that. He thinks a lot of music is stupid, like he's heard certain lyrics before and stood there like '??????')

( Kagura's taste in music is definitely a mix of a lot of stuff. She loves stuff that's upbeat. There was an episode where she was rapping I remember, can't remember the context but lmao I love her so much. She loves rap, she loves pop, just... a mix of everything I think. It just has to be upbeat, she loves to have fun and enjoy herself you know? Some of the rap songs she listens to have really explicit lyrics though, like I mentioned with Kamui hearing 'certain' lyrics before, he heard one of the rap songs KAGURA listened to and well... they had an argument because he kept insulting her taste in music. )

She's SO fuckin' funny. Namida and Kagura don't interact that much, (they should) which is why I started with Kamui, but I love reading how you portray her with others. Also you should write more drabbles about the Yato sibs cuz brooooo they come out DELICIOUS! They're such contrasting yet similar characters in their own right and you really breathe that to life through your writing. Your angst drabbles pull at my heart strings. GIVE ME MORE HAPPINESS!!! That one drabble of Kamui doing her hair was so precious. My favorite parts about how you write them honestly is how much they actually care about each other. Family is forever ♡

YEAH Kamui is requested a lot more than Kagura on here, I don't really mind since he IS my favorite but would love Kagura to get more attention once in a while too at least xD I loveeeee bsd a lot. An anime only atm though. In terms of interaction i could see Kagura maybe really enjoying annoying the shit out of Chuuya lmaoooo. So there's a suggestion if you ever wanna throw another one of your muses my way.

BUT YEAH, I was really hesitant to to try writing Kamui because of him being an asshole. Glad I decided to do it regardless if you're saying that !!! Thanks soooo freaking much it means a lot.
