the black marker squeaks faintly against the plastic cup as you carefully draw out the same five letters that you've written nearly every shift for the past two weeks.

as you go through the motions of making the sugary, pink drink once again, your gaze strays to the tall, handsome man on the other side of the counter. he drags a hand through his messy black hair, smiling down at his phone.

"it's not for me," he says every time he orders the same exact drink with an embarrassed wince, tossing money in the tip jar while you count out his change.

sometimes, when you're working alone, he leans an elbow on the counter and asks you how your day is going. when it's busy, he's quieter save for the conspiratorial looks you incidentally share with him between transactions with difficult customers.

it's a little pathetic—just how badly you look forward to seeing him every day now. how you find yourself longingly gazing at the clock, waiting for 4 o'clock to hit and nearly pacing with bated breath to see if he'll show.

it's pathetic, because you're just the barista making the drink that he comes and orders for his girlfriend every day.

"UNCLE KUROO!"

something small and colorful zips by out of the corner of your eye, and you look up just in time to see a child go barrelling into kuroo's legs.

another man with silver hair who looks to be around the same age as kuroo comes jogging in behind her. "sorry, bro. i told her we had to wait outside."

the little girl pouts, tugging insistently on kuroo's pants. "uncle kuroo, i changed my mind. i'm tired of the pink drink. no more pink! i want chocolate!"

his friend looks between the two of you suddenly, something that could be considered borderline smug creeping across his face. "so this is why you—"

"—CHOCOLATE, uncle kuroo!"

kuroo sighs, running a hand over his face before he offers you an apologetic, if not slightly embarrassed, smile.

the dynamic between you & kuroo is one that i feel like is awfully similar to kuroo & tsukishima! a semi-obnoxious goofball and a quiet, mean looking guy, who is secretly a lover boy.

needless to say people were very surprised to find out you were dating kuroo

“kuroo’s dating him? i never would’ve thought of pairing, he doesn’t seem like he likes people, even more so relationship sort of guy you know?”

the comments your peers made were bothersome at first but you and kuroo both ignored them

all that really mattered was how much you guys loved each other, so who cares what they think

but knowing kuroo, that won’t stop him from making a snarky comment to shut them up

“obviously im dating him hello? you’re all just jealous that he actually enjoys my company, and not that of a bunch of losers” kuroo was always convinced everyone was jealous that he got to be with you

regardless, you would also roll your eyes and half heartedly apologize for his comments

that’s just the kind of guy kuroo is. despite his goofy personality, he’s extremely caring and observant. he’ll always do everything in his power to make you feel loved, even the little things. especially the little things really. he believes that these small things are truly what shows how much he cares, without being outwardly affectionate, because he knows how much they make your day. while he won’t hesitate to scream and shout his love for you, he’s a big fan of the quiet type of love that you’re more receptive to. that’s your type of love, with your tetsurou.

you honestly found it surprising when you and oikawa started dating, you didn’t think he would be interested in someone like you considering his fan club. but unfortunately the fan club felt the same way.

you really could care less about his fan club though. making sure to constantly roll your eyes at them, and show them your cold attitude

this ofc made them say things like “how could oikawa like him??? he’s actually so mean”

but this didn’t matter !! because behind closed doors you’re a lover boy & oikawa knows that

oikawa is a major quality time and words of affirmation proprietor when it comes to showing his love to you. he’ll do anything with you, as long as it means you guys are together & he gets to be with you

will always always thank you and show his appreciation after every one of his games you go to

if you’re ever feeling down about yourself or his fan club/admirers are giving you a hard time, he won’t hesitate to tell them off & give you reassurance

i have a headcanon that oikawa is actually a big poetry fan, and he will send you poems almost daily that remind him of you

tooru looooves to show you off !! even though you’re somewhat stoic and aren’t publicly lovey-dovey with him, he won’t skip a beat to show you off or mention you any chance he gets

you’re the last person he’ll talk to before a game, demanding good luck hugs & kisses, and the first person he runs to after a game. whether he won or lost, it doesn’t matter because he’s just thankful that you were here with him

though he’s aware of his huge club of admirers and how much of a toll they can take on the both of you, he’ll never give them any attention outside of just being polite. because at the end of the day they don’t matter to him, you do. waking up to you every morning, telling you how glad he is to have you in his life, spending hours on end talking about nothing and everything, this is the life you live being in love with tooru oikawa.

roommate!kuroo’s reaction when he realizes that he’s much more down bad than he thought he was, as soon as he starts craving for even the smallest moments of domesticity with reader😭

kuroo's standing in the middle of the grocery store at 8:34 pm on a thursday night when it hits him.

you skip down the aisle toward where he's waiting with the cart, clad in his red flannel shirt as you wave a box of cereal in his direction, eyes bright beneath sterile fluorescent lights. his heart thumps hard against his ribcage—a resounding knock that leaves him rooted to the spot.

he realizes you hadn't even asked him to come grocery shopping with you. he just followed you out the door when you said you were going. as if he's your boyfriend, not your roommate.

and he realizes a lot in that moment—the way he automatically makes breakfast for two now without even thinking twice, how he rarely catches up on his favorite shows unless you're home and on the couch beside him. he thinks about the flush that creeps up the back of his neck every time your mom asks to say hello to your "cute roommate" whenever you're walking around the apartment video chatting with her.

his knees feel weak.

he thinks about picking you up from work in his car on rainy days even when you insist the walk home is short. he thinks about your shampoo bottle beside his body wash and how he just drinks oat milk now because there's no point in buying two. he thinks about the way you look when you first wake up—how it makes his chest ache.

Fantasy AU (Kuroo x Reader)

Bright lights shined down upon your beautiful white laced elegant wedding dress. Your heart was on a high, today you were to be bound to your love in sickness and health, Kuroo Tetsurou. You had known the prince who was to become king in a fortnights time since your childhood.

You had come to the Kingdom of Nekoma purely by misfortune, you had been brought in with prisoners of war just because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. You were just a young child, so the gracious king of Nekoma decided to spare you a life on the streets or a worse fate he gave you job working in the stables. He had given you a few options when you had first got there and you had always admired the beautiful, graceful horses, so it was a no brainer for your younger self.

In the time you grew up you had met Kuroo, He was one of your childhood best friends, as you grew the platonic love grew into something more. It had always been you and kuroo causing mischief around the castle grounds. It was a far better childhood then you could imagined with Kuroo around. Also living in a castle wasn't half bad either. You were very surprised the day when he asked you to be his wife, you could not believe it. After all he was a prince and you were just a stable girl. You expected him to find a beautiful and poised princess or something like that. After everything he decided to choose you.

Finally your day arrived, you had felt like a princess for the entire week before the wedding, it was a lot for you if you were being honest. Today you were not only becoming Kuroos wife, you were becoming a princess at the same time. It was going to be a lot but you were ready for it, as long as you had your faithful partner by your side.

You were knocked out of your thoughts by a loud knocking on your door.

"(Y/N), its time."

The voice belonged to the current King, He had asked you if he could be apart of the special day and since he had been a important figure in your life, you asked him to give you away. Considering your unique past he gladly accepted. Taking a deep breath, you head out the door to your new life with your handsome prince.

Everything goes by so fast, your vows, the rings, the passionate kiss you got. Everything was beautiful, you couldn't stop smiling and giggling. You lost count off all the people who came and congratulated you. Kuroo couldn't keep his hands off of you all night. It was incredibly distracting but you couldn't lie, you didn't hate it. You felt safe in the strong arms of your strong prince.

"How are you feeling, love?"

Your black haired Prince asked you as he wrapped his long arms around your waist.

"Darling, i have never felt better"

Leaning over to Kuroo to answer his question with a smile.

"But I think I need to get some air, this whole nights been a lot."

"Do your thing, I'll be missing you over here."

Kuroo sent a sad face towards your way sarcastically. You softly shook your head, you turn to head out of the busy great hall for a couple minutes.

"Shouldn't you be inside?"

Kenmas soft voice speaks up from the right of you.

"I should but it was starting to be a lot in there, to many people."

"That makes sense, Kuroo finally released you from his side I see."

"If I couldn't get some fresh air, I would have started a riot."

Kenma lets out a soft chuckle at your comment. The two of you continued to talk for a bit. You two had lost track of time, and in the building your new husband began to search for you. Kenma and your conversation was abruptly interrupted by the sound of a sword sheathing from its case.

"Well congratulations, little one."

A dark evil voice spoke out to you and kenma. Both you and Kenma grew closer to each other for some sort of protection. Right in front of you was the villainous King of Aoba Josai, King Oikawa.

"What are you doing here, rat

Kenma quietly spoke up but confidence laced in his words.

"Well I just had to congratulate the happy couple obviously."

''Clearly you aren't just here to congratulate them, bold of you to be here, just on your own.''

''Well, who said I wasn't alone.''

Your heart leaped out of your chest out of fear. You felt the icy metal of a dagger pressed harshly against your neck. You hadn't expected the end of your wedding day to end like this. Kenma was in the same position as you, he looked a lot more calm then you but you could see him calculating the situation.

''I wouldn't go through with this little plan, if I were you.''

''Oh I am just taking someone who belongs somewhere else back.''

Oikawa spoke slowly as he turned to look at you with an evil glint in his eyes.

''I don't belong to anyone.''

Doing your best to confidently speak up. while being held against a knife. You were trying to struggle out of the mans grip but you felt the weapon slightly draw blood out of neck, as you struggled.

''Don't fight me princess, you'll only get yourself hurt.''

You hated the way you could feel him smugly smiling behind you. You knew were weren't in the position to fight back even though everything in you wanted to fight.

Everything happened so fast when Oikawa gave the guy behind you a nod and you were lifted up off your feet and thrown into the evil Kings arms. He quickly tied your arms behind your back. Kenma attempted to reach you but Oikawa had brought a lot more men with him and they kept Kenma more then occupied. You were still fighting in the Kings arms, but he was stronger then he looked and he dealt with your kicking and hitting like he wasn't bothered. You had felt completely useless so you did what you should have done way earlier, you started yelling and screaming as loud as you could.

The action seemed to alert Kuroo, and his close knit group of knights. They moved swiftly towards the sound of your distressed voice. By the time they had reached your and kenma it was to late because by that time you were being hoisted on the back of a tall horse. Oikawa jumped on right after you so he was seated right behind you, trapping you.

Kuroo jumped into action and started making his way towards you but he was being overrun with all of the men that Oikawa had snuck into the kingdom. Kuroo fought and made his way through the men but he would never catch up to you in time. His heart sunk as the watched the king take you away. He had failed at his job, what were they going to do to you. he wouldn't rest until he got you back in his arms.

He acted quickly with planning what would be the next move, he wanted more then anything to rush in and chase after you but he knew he would just get himself killed by doing that. Kuroo needed to be calculated and calm before he moved.

If anywhere to happen to you there would be hell to pay and this would be the beginning of a nation wide war.

Arisa: *looking sad at lunch* Kuroo: Everything okay there, Arisa? I know when something is wrong with you, and something's wrong, right? What can I do to help? Arisa: Ema and I had a fight. Kuroo: Nothing I can do to help. Arisa: You wanna hear about it? Kuroo: No. Kenma: Why not? Kuroo: Why? Because her and Ema are best friends, and Arisa is gonna want me to take her side and agree that Ema was wrong. And then, you know, the two of them are gonna make up and then they're gonna be mad at me. So no thank you.
