☼  •  —  he stumbles across the room by a c c i d e n t, as he does most things. ( but to be fair, he would call it fate  —  it sounds a lot more mystical that way, more purposeful, and he has always held faith that everything happens for a reason. ) and to be fair, under any other circumstances, he never would have been so disrespectful as to enter another survivor’s home without invitation. but this was a r a r e occasion, an unusual one —  one of the few times he’s told olivia in advance that he was going to drop by instead of simply showing up as he often did, unexpected on her doorstep. and though she does not come to the door when he knocks  — on the subject of u n u s u a l things about this encounter that have already occurred before it’s even occurred  — he finds it unlocked after a gentle push and calls her name into the home. it’s only out of worry that he actually enters, worry that crests with the silence that follows her name; he’s not used to her absence here, though he supposes she does have to leave from time to time. but would she leave her home so o p e n ?  

          the door is one he’s never opened. he’s never had a c a u s e before now. ( he’s wondered what was behind it a time or two in passing, but curiosity does not warrant invasion of privacy. his respect for her is deep, genuine, and he would feel awful if he ever caused damage to the foundation of trust he’s slowly begun to establish with her. ) but he can’t find her, and he’s got this s i n k i n g feeling in his gut that something’s not right. there isn’t anything e x p l i c i t l y wrong, but he’s just  — he’s getting these vibes, okay? and they’re not —  they aren’t g o o d. but then he’s stepping into a study, bare feet sinking into soft beige carpet as his gaze is caught by a mosaic of bright color and imaginative imagery and lopsided crayola dedications to miss olivia, and suddenly those vibes seem so incongruous to what’s before him. because this  — this is b e a u t i f u l and he can’t help but be drawn inexplicably further inside.
