Her relationship with Colton hadn't seemed to go down particularly well with his best friend and even though Lia had never had anything against the girl personally, she had always found it tough to be around her, given that Catalina hadn't agreed with her high school relationship. She was sure that her leaving town and Colton hadn't gone down particularly well, but at least that had been over a decade ago.
"Nashville was always the dream, home of country music and all. Once I got my record deal, I could be anywhere my label was and my ex needed to be in LA, so that's where I ended up for a while." She didn't mention his name, but she couldn't help the little scrunch of her nose at the distaste of even mentioning him. "Yes actually, a while back. My cat decided to be an escape artist and I bumped into Colton as I was chasing her, in a towel." Shaking her head, she couldn't help but chuckle. "At least it couldn't get more awkward from the start, so it broke the ice. Are you two still as close?"
Cat looked her over again, taking in how she had matured in a few different ways...maybe even attitude-wise. "Maybe not now, I guess." she shrugged, starting to let the wall she had brought up break down a bit. Catalina had never been a fan of Lia, they were too different, and in kind it made her believe that she and Colton were too different for each other. That didn't stop the two of them from dating nor did it make any better sense when the two broke up and Catalina had been one of the ones to say, 'I told you so.'
"What took you out there? Seems like such a different environment from this one," she waved around them, obviously signaling to their hometown. "Trust me, it'll start to feel just like old times soon enough. Have you run into Colton yet?"

There were few times a single dad could get a night out with the guys, but thanks to River, Callum could spend a Friday night doing that. He knew he couldn't drink too much, as he was still recovering from how lit he got on Halloween, but a few shots with the lads wouldn't do any harm. That's what he told himself when one of the guys brought a tray of tequila shots to their table.
That's when a few of his friends started to smack him on the shoulder with loud laughter and frantic mumbles of something or other he struggled to make out. They seemed excited about something, and Callum hadn't a clue. That was until he caught sight of a brunette sashaying her way through the crowd in a direct line for him, eyes fixed on him like he was some sort of prize. Callum turned to his friends with a face scrunched up in confusion, then glanced back at her as she neared. "Now, what's going on here, lads?" He asked them, laughing, as they all backed away to form a circle, watching as Callum tried to pull himself together.
Callum gulped as her eyes moved over him, feeling naked with the power of her gaze. "Uh—I don't think so?" he asked, almost questioning his own recollection and reality. The man's cheeks burned red as she complimented him, and he nervously rubbed the back of his neck. "I noticed you, too..." he mumbled, brows knitting together as she ghosted his chin, completely baffled. Callum looked around; sure, she must be talking about someone else, but no. She was locked in on him. "No," he started but heard the coughs and grumbles of his friends, who all looked to the sky when he glanced their way. "Yea, yea... all by myself." He gently punched her arm and grinned, "Not anymore, though. Thanks to you."
who: catalina & @papaflynn where: Golden Hour Beach Bar
Green eyes searched the bar for a prospect, any prospect, for some kind of lively conversation or maybe even a flirtatious one that could lead to some kind of excitement that Catalina was—at this point—begging for. Her sister was at a friend's house sleeping over, so she not only had the night to herself, but their home would be void of any teenage ears and eyes that could catch any kind of...adulterous event.
This wasn't to say that Cat wasn't checking in every hour on the hour, but she would have enjoyed at least a brief break. Drink in hand she meandered through the crowd until she spotted a handsome man in the distance, and her smile practically formed into one of a Chesire cat. "Jackpot," she whispered to herself as she beelined for him, slow steps keeping her from practically stealing him away from anyone else. He looked...innocent, in a gentle kind of way, and she knew mixed with her personality that it would be a challenge to see what she could pull out of him.
Dressed in bikini top and short shorts, she finally made her way to where he stood, placing her elbow against the bar as she looked him over. "I'm so sorry, but have we met before?" she questioned, partially to reel him in, the other part because he did in fact seem familiar up close. "I just couldn't help but notice you from down the way, and wow," she paused, a hand coming up to ghost over his chin as if she were to hold it. "Yeah, you look even better up close. Are you here by yourself?"

Alara smirked, leaning back against the bar with a casualness she didn’t entirely feel. “Scrappy, huh? I’ll take that as a compliment,” she quipped, raising her glass in a lazy gesture before taking a slow sip. Her tone was light, almost dismissive, as if Catalina’s words hadn’t struck a nerve.
She let the silence stretch for a moment, swirling the liquid in her glass. “As for staying… who knows? People in this town love to think of me as unreliable, I’d hate to disappoint them.” she said with a shrug, her voice airy, detached. “MaybeI just wanted to see if this place still feels like home.” Her gaze flicked toward Catalina, the faintest hint of something real, something vulnerable in it. That was a big question for Alara. Would Briar Ridge feel like home now that her father was no longer here? Would Alara even have a home now that he was gone? “Guess we’ll see.”
Alara downed the rest of her drink, setting the empty glass on the bar with a soft clink before offering Catalina a grin—too casual, too practiced. “Anyway, what’s the fun in giving you all the answers, little cat? You’ll just have to stick around and find out.”
Cat knew how inconsistent Alara could be, and even if she pushed every button that she had, she irked every nerve that ran through her body—it still hurt like hell when she left. No word, no reason, just dust following in her wake. It hadn't been fair, and Catalina sat on that for a long time. In the back of her mind, where she had sent the memories of Alara to live, she knew that the other would find her way back eventually. Now, here she was, her aggravating nature not lost on her through her absence.
As Catalina sipped and Alara leaned in, she paused, a huff of laughter filling the glass as she listened. She waited for a second or so before she continued sipping her drink, swallowing and setting the glass down on the bar top. "The chase is always fun," she started, keeping their distance from where Alara had left it. "Especially when the prey is someone as scrappy as you." Laughter bubbled out of her again. "So, are you actually going to stay this time little mouse? Come back to the club? Or are you five seconds away from fleeing again?"

"I honestly didn't even know if you still lived in town. Although, do I have a reason to avoid you?" Lia and Cat had known each other when Lia had dated Colton but despite Catalina's closeness to the boy, the two girls had never particularly gotten along. Even if Lia hadn't actively disliked her, she couldn't imagine that her leaving Colton, despite their mutual break up had gone down particularly well.
Nodding, Lia loosely crossed her arms over her chest, leaning herself against the nearest wall as her still sore legs threatened to give out. "I moved to Nashville when I left here, I was there for a couple of years and then I've been in LA. Sort of split my time between the two really. It's still a bit weird being back, really, kind of feels like I never left and completely foreign all at once."
"That is kind of strange, isn't it?" she spoke back, glancing back in the direction of her sister briefly before refocusing. "It might even kind of seem like you could have been avoiding me this whole time Lia," she wanted it to come out a bit teasingly, though she wasn't sure if she quite hit the mark or not. Lia and Cat didn't necessarily have the best background, their common denominator being Colt didn't help the situation seeing as he was being pushed and pulled between the two for years.
"I've been good, living the true Briar Ridge native lifestyle," she nodded along, taking a brief pause before she continued. "How about you? Where have you been off to all these years?"

"I hate you so much, why did I ever think you coming to visit was a good idea?" Doubling over, Lia rested her hands on her knees as she tried to catch her breath. She had thought it a great idea when her friend and former personal trainer had flown in for a long weekend in the small town, but as her legs threatened to give out from under her, she was starting to doubt her instincts.
Slowly straightening up, Lia grabbed her Stanley cup and took a long drink of water, hoping her face wasn't flushed as red as it felt. Her head turned towards the sound of her name and her eyes instantly widened at the familiar face. "Oh my god, Catalina?" What a blast from the past she was. "God, you must be the only person I haven't seen since I moved home." Smoothing a hand over the top of her hair, Lia nodded to her friend as they head towards the changing rooms. "I think I'd probably break something if I tried to flip now, I think my ability for that stopped in my twenties. How are you? How have you been?"
who: catalina & @lia-lozano where: Briar Ridge Rec Center
Catalina had just finished one of the boxing classes at the Rec Center, wiping some leftover sweat from her brow as she rounded a corner. She had started taking them more seriously lately, even choosing to come in on her off days for extra time in the gym. Plus, she had begun dragging Emalina into them so she could learn some form of self-defense. Today was also one of those days, the teenager dragging her feet behind her sister. "Ve a buscarnos algunos batidos," she spoke to her, pointing in the direction of the bar area before she turned, and her green eyes landed on a familiar face.
"Are you still working on your flips, Lozano?"

Alara didn’t flinch, didn’t waver—she was in her prime in this moment. And that was part of why her dynamic with Catalina had always drawn her to it. The back and forth, the challenge, all of it had it coming back like a moth to a flame. Instead of a flinch, a slow, dangerous smile curved her lips as she turned her head to meet those sharp green eyes. She leaned casually against the bar, her posture unbothered but her gaze burning with challenge.
“Well, consistency has never been my strong suit, Cat,” she said, her voice low and smooth, like a purr. “But you already knew that, didn’t you?”
Her eyes flicked down briefly to the glass in Catalina’s hand before snapping back up, as if she were sizing her up. She didn’t move when Cat’s fingers brushed her skin, the graze of her touch sending a shiver down her spine that Alara refused to let show. Instead, she tilted her head slightly, letting the moment hang between them like a live wire.
Alara shifted, leaning in just enough to close the space Cat had deliberately left between them, her lips barely a breath away from her ear now. “You talk a big game,” she whispered, her voice edged with mock innocence. “but for someone who’s so quick to call me out, you sure love chasing the inconsistency.”
Cat squinted her eyes just slightly as Alara approached, the way her nickname rolled off her tongue causing a shadow of a smirk to form over her features. Alara was never afraid of getting close to Catalina, challenging her in any way she felt like, matching her energy, so to speak. The challenge was what caused the back-and-forth to always occur, that and Cat's intrigue for the other. Otherwise, she wouldn't bother. As Alara closed the distance, Catalina took in her scent, biding her time for a rebuttal so she could keep her there a little longer.
She remained silent as the other brushed by her, bringing her drink up to her mouth for another drink before slowly turning to face where she had gone. "I save those for my sister, not grown women..." she started to say as she closed their distance and moved to stand right next to her at the bar. Placing her glass on the edge the brunette nodded toward the bartender to signal for a refill before green eyes landed on her again. "Would you want that, though?" she asked, hand moving to move some of Alara's hair to sweep over her shoulder, fingertips grazing her skin. "Someone to tell you all about how deserting people without a word is a piece of shit move, how you've been such a bad girl," she laughed a little after that, having moved to be only about two or three inches from her face as she whispered the last half of the sentence.
Pulling herself back, Catalina grabbed the glass that had been refilled and took a long sip. "Kinky, but why waste my breath on someone who isn't consistent?"

In the months since Alara had been back, Alara and Catalina had somehow managed to go without being assigned to the same shifts at the station. She knew Cat had to know she was back, but with the chaos that had ensued since returning, Alara hadn't been able to seek the other brunette out. Something that was clearly being rectified tonight.
Alara’s lips curved into a smirk at the familiar voice cutting through the hum of the room. She hadn’t even turned around yet, but she could feel Catalina’s fire burning behind her, just as it always had. Turning slowly, she let her gaze sweep over Catalina, taking in the green eyes that still seemed to pierce straight through her and the defiant stance that screamed "try me." She shook her head as she finally spoke, "Cat, Cat, Cat." Closing the distance, she moved to stand just a inch or two away from the brunette. "If you wanted me to stick around that badly, all you had to do was say so."
Her gaze flitted down to the other woman's lips for the briefest moments, as tempting as they were, before she quickly brushed past her, moving instead to the nearby bar and leaning against it to order a drink. Turning to glance back at Catalina, she raised an eyebrow, her smirk sharpening. “So, is this where you give me a lecture, or were you planning on something a little more creative?”
who: catalina & @alarakcplan where: Paradise Point Resort & Spa
This might have been the only night so far that Cat hadn't been blowing up her sister's phone while she was out—having decided to be a little laid back for once and allow her a break from her overbearing ways. It helped that Catalina had also agreed that a couple of drinks could calm her nerves about letting loose on her reigns and now felt more...social. Third drink in hand, green eyes scanned the room for another familiar face, her smirk forming onto her features when the image of one Alara Kaplan landed in her way.
Taking a nice long sip of her drink, she felt adrenaline start to course through her only further egging her on to go and say something to her. They weren't always on the best of terms when they were...friends? Colleagues? Whatever you would call them. But, how Alara left things left a sour taste in her mouth that not even the sweet alcoholic drink in hand could mask. "Well, look at this," she stepped towards the other, eyes roaming over the other while her nails tapped against the glass. "Queen Alara, back in Briar Ridge ready to grace us all with her presence once again," she laughed, shaking her head as she did so. "How long before you disappear this time Kaplan?"
