in all honestly, adrienne isn’t certain why she’s kept this PARTICULAR painting for so very long, especially now that it bears the scars of her once-frequent temper tantrums. sentimentality, perhaps -- after all, it does remain one of the few representations of her mother’s face left within the castle. or, maybe it’s just a reminder of what she had once been, a subtle way of telling herself that she cannot allow herself to go back to those days.

it serves now as something the being can appreciate, she imagines -- proof that the human girl he trembles before was once as MONSTROUS as he. apart from the word of the servants and townspeople, adrienne supposes there aren’t very many of those. 

for all that reflecting, however, her tone is wry when she speaks. ❛  as you might be able to tell, i didn’t find it a particularly FLATTERING depiction.  ❜
