It never ceased to amaze Nilay over what treasures thrift shops were and could offer. Everything they offered and how often they changed, always keeping her visits interesting. The moment she saw the stall at the Pride Festival she had tried her hardest to not just bolt towards it and stay there. To shop and buy whatever her heart wanted, both for her family, friends, coworkers, and for herself. And with Eli spending father-daughter time with the girls, she found it the perfect opportunity to do some shopping. "Oh, how beautiful," she gasped. The historian lifted up a Babylonia-inspired snow globe, the base representing the blue gates and inside consisting of a replica of the Hanging Gardens, gold glitter inside the globe and ready to cover the tiny monument with just a gentle shake. She noticed someone out of the corner of her eye and she said, "Have you been able to find anything that catches your eye as well? I can't believe that this exists; It's incredible!"

I was too much again. The thought came to her automatically once she stopped talking and looked at the younger man. Nilay has always been a studious person. For a majority of her life, knowledge was her one constant companion. It was the only thing she could really turn to. Between reading books, whether they were dust-covered old copies or the newest book that challenged old opinions, to renting out whatever documentary VHS she could get her hands on from her old library in Mardin (assuming that her fosters had a TV and VHS set that they'd allow her to use, that is), to going to any and all the museums and historical sites that she possibly could: whatever she could do to learn more about the world, about history, about other cultures, about languages, she would do it. Luckily, she'd been adopted by scholars, by people who were patrons of the arts and sciences, by people who were citizens of the world. But, before the Baileys (and even some people since her adoption), there were plenty of those who didn't understand her quest for knowledge and wisdom. Who, more often than not, berated her for it.
She has since then tried to find like-minded people, but there were still moments where she questioned if her passion and excitement was too much. Though, once Micah let out his joke, she was able to laugh a little. Feeling fortunate that it didn't quite seem to be the case. "Unfortunately, no on the Assassin's Creed game. But... I do have a book coming out early next year here in the States about Semiramis. It's a historical fiction and I could give you a list of resources I used for it, if you like?" Nilay didn't want to assume whether he would be interested or not. But, it didn't hurt to at least try. The brunette nodded. She smiled softly as she thought about Saul, already picturing the "proud uncle" look on his face. "Archaeologist, anthropologist, Egyptologist, Assyriologist, Classist... A lot more -ists, frankly. I specialize in the ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern region, civilizations, cultures, languages, and histories. I have done some branching out with South Asia and Eastern Europe, but those are my specialties. I've spent most of my life within that region, primarily T眉rkiye and Egypt, so it just felt... right. Falling in love with all of that, specializing in it. Oh god, Lara Croft is ten times cooler than I am."

to say that he'd understood everything that nilay had told him would be a big fat lie. that isn't to say he isn't interested; he loves it when people get to talk about things they're passionate about, but a lot of the names and places that nilay had mentioned were totally lost on him. once she finishes her rambling, micah blinks, partially stunned. he'd ask questions, but he isn't really sure where to begin. so, at the risk of sounding stupid, "any chance there's a movie about that? or an assassin's creed game?" he tries to assuage her embarrassment with some lighthearted humor. "no, you're fine. i think it's cool that you're really into this stuff. i think my dad mentioned you were some kind of -gist? yeah, you don't meet that many people in real life. i only know lara croft." he shrugs.

Nilay felt nervous when it came to Micah. That wasn't something that she liked to admit, of course. After knowing Saul for so long and him becoming an integral part of both her and her family's lives, part of her worried if Micah felt any resentment towards her. And she wondered if she was a hypocrite having such a strong relationship with the young man's father, whom he himself had a complex one, whereas her own dynamic with her biological parents was nowhere near being strong. All she wanted, all she could really hope for, was that Saul and Micah's relationship to become better. To grow stronger. And, in the meantime, she hoped to get to know the young lawyer better.
She smiled as she looked over to him. Chuckling at his Minecraft mention, fortunately understanding what that mean and not needing to ask Phoebe later on. "It's based on Babylonia. The base is inspired by the Ishtar Gates, whereas the building inside the globe is based on the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The Hanging Gardens were said to be attributed to two different people: the Neo-Babylonian King聽Nebuchadnezzar II, for his聽Median聽wife,聽Queen Amytis, or to the legendary Assyrian Queen聽Semiramis, having also been referred to as the聽Hanging Gardens of Semiramis. When it came to Nebuchadnezzar and Amytis, it's said that he built it as an imitation to her homeland, due to her missing Median, and has been attested by the Babylonian priest Berossus and the Roman-Jewish historian Josephus. There use to be many speculation and theories concerning the Gardens and their legitimacy, but I found some scrolls in my Library of Dendera discovery that proved they existed. I just wish I could've seen them." Perhaps she had, in a past life. Looking back at the snow globe, her cheeks soon redden as she laugh. "I鈥擶ow, I'm so sorry for rambling! I... I do that... A lot... I'm sorry, again."

since coming to blue harbor (for the summer, just for the summer!) micah has probably visited the local thrift shop more times than he's been to his mother's new place in forest lake. nine times out of ten, he just ends up looking, but he's always held out for the hope that something will turn up, something he never knew he actually wanted until he's holding it in his hands.
he'd just perused the sweaters rack, unfortunately coming up empty-handed, and has now moved on to the trinkets shelves where nilay is delighting on a snow globe encased within it a castle-fort sort of structure speckled with gold. judging by what he knows about nilay, he's sure it must be a part of history, the kind he hasn't really paid much attention to in class or when it comes up on natgeo. "i had a similar build in minecraft. took me the whole week just put together." just something he felt like sharing. "well, what is it, exactly?"
