"I fucking hate Asli." The words came out unprompted. With the two catching up and rewatching some Marvel films together, she was reminded of a conversation that her and the tiny anthropologist had recently. One that would not leave Zeynep's damn head. "So, I was telling her about my favourite movie scores, yeah? Well, I brought up the Jurassic Park theme song, obviously, and the little shit was all, 'Oh! Did you know? The scene that takes place in San Jose is inaccurate, because San Jose is in the middle of Costa Rica near mountains and is nowhere near the Caribbean Sea nor Pacific Ocean!'" Scoffing, she shook her head. Rolling her eyes slightly. "Like? Okay, nerd, thanks for the cool fact. However... However. I tried watching Jurassic Park last night and I could not get her voice out of my damn head once I got to that scene. So! If a miniature brunette goes missing, you and Eli are obviously taking the blame for me."

"Alright, I'm sure that we're going to find it here." Ever since Alex got her hands on The Magic Treehouse book series at school, the six year old's been utterly obsessed with them. Which, on one hand, was good. However, there was the other hand: she loved the books so much that she started annotating and highlighting in them. Fortunately, things were settled with the library and their daughter wasn't in too much trouble. But, still, they needed to buy the ones she had wrote in and then buy the school new ones. Along with buying the rest in the series for her so that they wouldn't face this problem again in the future. With Alex leading them to the children's section, Asli walked alongside Atlas. Glancing over at him and giving a playful little smile. "She absolutely gets that from you, you know." Was she trying to reference the note he left in her book all those years ago, trying to see if he remembered or not? No, of course not. Because they both know that their daughter's annotating skills came from her, of course. "I can't believe she got to ten books before they discovered that. I've been checking the books we got at home to see which ones are my markings and which ones are hers. Have you discovered any?"

She wanted time to stop. She wanted to turn back the clock and go back to a simpler time, one that might have never existed in the first place. Em has never really known a simple time in her life, if she was being honest. She wished she did. She wished that there were some point in her life where there hadn’t been some type of chaos going on. Yet there wasn’t. There were times that were peaceful, though, despite other chaos going on. But even now, she can’t really look back at those times; Those times include the woman she was certain hated her and that shadowed everything. The realization broke her heart and she wished, she wished she wished she wished, she could drink that all away and forget. Yet after New Years, she threw out any and all alcoholic beverages that were in her house and hardly left at all. It was far too easy to relapse again and she didn’t want to allow that to happen. With Asli watching over the twins for the day, she’d been trying to reread the first Percy Jackson book when she heard a knock at her door. Groaning softly, setting the book down on the coffee table and getting up from the couch, Emeraude wrapped herself up in the giant comforter she brought from her room and headed to the door. Yet she hadn’t been expecting to see Atlas right out there. “H-Hey,” she said after she opened the door and remembered how to talk and breathe. Staring up at him nervously.

"... Fine, maybe I know more, but my point still stands!" Would Asli continue this 'argument' for as long as possible? Perhaps. It was all in good fun, after all. She would rather they have this than to genuinely be fighting with him. No words in any of the languages she knew that were in her arsenal could describe how much she loathed fighting with him. Aslihan waited quietly as she watched him make his choice. For a moment, she thought she was going to have to swallow her pride and admit to everyone, unfortunately including the man known as her brother, that she has finally been bested by someone. However, a genuine big smile soon formed as she heard his answer. "I think I can manage that," she mused. "Name when and I'll get right on it. I'll even make you your own homemade batch of potstickers, just to sweeten the deal better."
Passion, for as long as she could remember, was always considered a high value in the Bailey family. Aslihan couldn't imagine a life where she wasn't passionate, especially for her interests. And the older she got, the more things she's grown passionate about. Of course, she knew that it was a rather fortunate and even privilege position for her to be able to act on all of her passions. But she has also tried to make sure to help others to be able to act on their passions. Even if she does lose sleep doing so. Though, that was something she could never complain about. "Hey! I do take breaks every now and then, thank you very much. I'm just... extremely selective concerning them." Though, with her daughter being here soon, it has made her think about things. Decisions and choices that she's contemplating on taking that would result in her being able to have more breaks. Especially one of them, which would be one of the biggest and hardest decisions she'll have made in the past couple of years. Yet, the more she thought about it, the more she understood how right it would be. Even though it wasn't easy, but necessary. And the best step to take in her life right now. Though, she would have to wait a moment and she wanted to talk with Elijah about it before making any decisions. "I'm sure you're doing an amazing job. Trust me, I'm still learning as I'm going and each day is different. Just don't give up, okay?"
It was hard to look at him. She didn't want to admit to him the truth and to make things worse. But... not answering didn't help either. Especially as he looked from her, a clear show that he knew what her answer would've been. It was hard to watch him yet not know what to say to attempt to make things better. Because, in the end, nothing would. Nothing could change what happened, what choices they made, and all of the lost memories they were meant to share together and with Alex yet will never now know what they would've been.
But, there was also that always present need to protect him that showed itself. That was ready to take the blame he tried so hard to carry. This wasn't his fault, after all. And she refused to let him believe that it was. "I wrote you letters," she admitted softly. Her fingers playing with her Magen David slowly yet she tried to continue on. "From the day I found out about her to the day we flew here from London, I wrote you letters. But I couldn't... I tried to send them to you so many times, but I couldn't. I kept them in a few bundles in Alex's baby box and I told myself that I would one day finally send them to you. The amount of times I started writing and drafted emails, where I tried to send you a message through Instagram... I called the rescue once." It was her turn to look away from him. Her eyes shutting tightly to hide the tears that were forming. Shame filled her being and she tried to continue. "I... I heard your voice and for the first time in so long, it wasn't an old video from our time together or from my memories. But I panicked and hanged up. I was just so scared and I... I missed you so much... I was a coward, Atlas. I should've tried harder, done better, and I'm so sorry. None of this was your fault; It's mine."
Dark brown eyes opened at his words. Scanning his features quietly, she smiled softly. "I've faced death before and turned out okay," she joked lightly. Yet, she knew that it wasn't going to help much. Shaking her head, she slowly got up and walked over to Atlas, sitting in the chair closest to him. "You're right," she admitted softly. "I... I don't know what's going to happen. I don't know if I'm going to be okay or not. But... I know that you will be okay. You can do this without me. We've spent the past two years coparenting and taking care of Alex by ourselves, and you've done an incredible job with Alex without me around. You will be okay, no matter the outcome. And you'll still have my family around to help you as well. You... You'll have Eli. And I need you and Eli to lean on each other and raise the girls together in case... in case I do die." Quietly, she reached her hand out to place on his shoulder. "You are capable of so much, Las. You always have been and you always will be. And you are capable of doing this without me. I can promise that. Even if you don't believe that, I believe in you. That has never changed." Her lips pressed together. There were many things she could promise him, but that? She couldn't. She would always try to protect him. Including from what else could happen. "I can't promise you that," she whispered, pulling her hand back from him. Looking down, she noticed the time on her watch and she stood up. "I-I have to go. Eli and I have an appointment in an hour. I'll... I'll see you soon, okay?" ||📜@atlaswilliams

"Seventy seems low for you, so no. I'm not buying it." By comparison, Atlas felt as if he knew nothing at all about the world and the life he lived. It wasn't on the account of her making him feel inferior, but how could anyone stand next to a Bailey and feel as if they'd lived at all? "What do I want? Damn, that's a tough question. Hearing you tell the world that you got bested would be a good one. Especially if I can get a one Theo Bailey upfront and center. A high five is lame. I'm more of a fist bumping guy. I guess if I really have to choose just one," he trailed off, anticipation dripping off his words as his grin slowly grew wider, "then I'm going with a home cooked meal. I'd be an idiot if I passed that up. I think you know what I'm picking too." It was her personal favorite and a dish he'd come to quite enjoy himself, but hadn't had the privilege of enjoying in months.
His passion matched hers in the sense that the wolves were his life, just as research, education, and discovery was hers. While he wasn't the sharpest mind in studies that mattered to the rest of the world, someone would have done well to know more about wolves than he did. Between his time at the rescue and the education he'd obtained at University, it was the one thing he'd always taken seriously enough to give a damn about. Even at his lowest points, the wolves mattered the most. "You should do that thing that people do sometimes, I think it's called taking a break? It could be good for you. I promise things won't fall apart in your absence and if they do, you can blame me for pulling you outta there for a day." She was an important piece to the puzzle at her job, but one day away wouldn't send any establishment crashing to the ground below... he hoped. "I hope so. I'm doing everything I read online. Even singing her a few tunes in the morning. Something about manifestation?" If he believed hard enough, then it would be.
Patience was a virtue. He'd been told such a thousand times and he'd never truly realized what it meant until he'd become a father. Patience meant waiting for a tantrum to pass. Patience meant staring your child in the eyes while they openly defied a very simple request. Patience meant answering every question that left your daughter shot off, even if you don't know the answer.
But this? Waiting for a simple yes or no? It was the most torturous thing that he'd ever experienced in his thirty-something years of living.
Her silence was enough of an answer, as was her gentle plea of his name. Rather than argue in a battle he would never win, he dropped his gaze from hers and focused on a worn wooden board at his feet. She could blame herself all she wanted, but the fix to the silence between them had worked both ways. Sure, she could have called, but he couldn't blame her for staying silent. After all, why would she reach out to a man who'd basically left her behind? A man who hadn't even called to let her know that he'd landed safely, or that he was appreciative of everything she and her family had done for him in those three weeks.
The guilt buckled down and made a home in his chest, but he did his best to mask the overwhelming heaviness that settled there. This wasn't about him. It was about her and her health. Health that had severely been affected by the birth of their daughter and now, she was facing that battle again. "You can't promise that," he countered quietly, voice weak. So much for manifesting anything, right? "I want to believe that you will be, because I can't... I can't do this without you. So, I'm going to believe that you're going to be fine, but you can't... you can't promise that." Alex needed her mother and that wasn't going to change. Atlas needed her too, but it felt selfish beyond his means to mention it. "If something changes... just promise me that you won't try and hide it."

For a moment there, the doctor and nurses lost all hope. Her heart kept failing and it seemed like her fight to live was a struggle. Sooner or later, they were going to have to pull the plug on her. It was the fairest thing they could do. They gave her a few days to wait and see if she would wake up on her own. They had received the reluctant agreement from her parents that if she hadn’t, they would do it. That day finally came. They gave her a few extra hours. Until finally, it was time for people to say their final goodbyes. Her parents kept wishing her to wake up, to defeat the odds and come back to them. Yet after everyone did, the doctor and nurses got everything prepared.
And for a moment, maybe Abi was ready to accept it. Maybe she was ready to accept this fate and leave. Maybe, after she flatlined again, the doctor called out the time of death and it would be that. It would be final. She would be final. Maybe... Maybe... But what about maybe not? What about Alex and Atlas? What about her family? What about Ray? What about her friends? What about her future? There was so much she needed to say and do before she goes. She needs to watch Alex grow up. She needs to watch Atlas fully embrace the man he could be, the man she’s always known he could be. She needs to spend more time with her family, especially her brother. She needs more time with Ray. She needs to get back out there in the field, eventually write a book or a few, discover so many new things that have yet to be found. She needs more time. She needs more time with the people that she loves. So despite the initial flatline that then caused a nurse to turn off the machine, with the crew leaving to give people time to grieve, her pinkie moved. She felt another hand holding her own. Her chest slowly rose, almost unnoticeable. She opened her eyes; She saw Atlas. And her heart beat happily, as if it hadn’t stopped just a moment before. She smiled softly yet brightly at him while her eyes searched his face. No words able to express the joy she felt seeing him.
“Atlas... H-Hey, Yankee.”

spring extravaganza — closed starter for atlas williams. ( @atlaswilliams ) location — frederick’s farm, sunday !
Jay wasn’t wholly convinced Ellie hadn’t strong-armed him into going to Frederick’s Farm simply so she could admire the farm animals; she’d been begging him for a dog as long as he could remember and he was at least ninety percent sure he was going to cave any day now. At least she hadn’t asked him if she could adopt a lamb or something— he had no idea how to tell her no if that came up but the fact that they lived in the suburbs was at least a start. Jay spotted Atlas belatedly the moment Ellie sprinted towards something in the other man’s direction and Jay hurried to follow, grumbling under his breath about getting ‘too old for this’ in spite of the fact that he’d been twenty-nine for all of a month. “Hey, man,” He greeted brightly, reaching up to clap Atlas on the shoulder with a smile. “Your mini-me around here somewhere? Ellie’s going to propel herself into the atmosphere if she doesn’t get any of this energy out and Alex is like, her favorite.”

She still couldn’t believe it. Avery kept waiting for her to wake up and discover that all of this? No more than a dream. God, she wish it was some horrible dream. But no... it was all happening. And she hated it. The young author stopped by Abigail’s place, grabbing a couple of things that she knew she would need once she woke up. Then, she also grabbed Alex’s baby box, hidden beneath the bed. She knew that the woman wanted to share it with Atlas; Maybe some of the things in it could distract him, hopefully. She didn’t fully know what was in there but, it wasn’t her place to. With her spouse watching Alex and Mars back home, she headed to the hospital. She made her way up to Abi’s room and smiled sadly as she noticed the older man. They were suppose to celebrate Abi’s 28th birthday; Not this. God, not like this. “Hey,” she mused, knocking on the door before entering. “Um, I talked to Abi’s parents before getting up here. They’re trying to book a flight and should be here sometime tomorrow late afternoon.” She went to set down the backpack and baby box on the couch near the windows, a beautiful view of the Rockies. Yet it was hard to admire the view when her friend was lying in a bed hooked up to machines. She moved over to them, trying not to cry as she looked at the ‘sleeping’ historian. “How’s she doing? How... How are you holding up?”

Pieces of RWBY Volume 6 score I am over-the-moon excited for:
The Argus Limited cold open
Scratch that, make it the music for the entire fight, 'cause there was a bit that played under Oscar running up the train and leaping across cars that was just A++
"Smile" under Ilia's goodbye and "Like Morning Follows Night" under Sun's goodbye
Was there a bit of "Red Like Roses Pt. II" when Ruby grabbed Weiss? I think there was...
CASEY WROTE SALEM'S "GIRL IN THE TOWER" THEME AND I AM HERE FOR IT
All of Chapter 3. All of it.
The creepy af Apathy music.
The piano versions of "Miracle" and "Rising" under Ch. 06's ending and Ch. 07's arrival in Argus, respectively. Jeff Williams is a god on piano, I swear.
Speaking of Chapter 7, that rocking guitar when Maria's fighting the Nevermore and TOCK FIGHTING TO MUSIC WITH A TICKING CLOCK AS ITS BEAT
All the Argus stuff. It sounds like another waltz. RWBY and waltzes have gone together like P.B. and J whenever they're used.
Those reprises of "Rising" when Ruby's got her speech in Ch. 08 and Ch. 12
Ruby in the cannon. I dunno what melody it was, but hot damn
THE BLAKE AND YANG VS ADAM FIGHT!! Alex broke down how he scored it over on Reddit and I just cannot handle how brilliant this man is.
That orchestral lead up to "Indomitable".
Haaaaaaarp melody!
The very last musical cue of the Volume, where the Atlas theme kicks in.

The Children’s Home Society of Virginia was organized in 1899, and chartered by the General Assembly on 30 January 1900. Inspired by the work of the National Children’s Home Society, it was born of concern on the part of its founders for the plight of abandoned and neglected children. As stated in its charter, the Society’s goal was “finding family homes for homeless, indigent, or dependent poor children in the State of Virginia, and other purposes incident thereto.”

(Children’s Home Society of Virginia) — Children’s Home Society of Virginia first Board of Directors
The Board of Directors selected John Garland Pollard as the Society’s first president and the Reverend William J. Maybee as state superintendent. Maybee, who was to hold that position for nearly 30 years, articulated the ethos of the Society when he wrote in 1903 that “We are not to imagine that children of humble birth are therefore inferior, on the contrary the homeless child of the street is of the same clay as the petted darling of the wealthy…Both Christianity and civilization may be quite correctly measured by their treatment of childhood.”

The Society received children in one of two ways, parental placement or court commitment. Representatives of the CHS traveled the state gathering children who were made wards of the Society and brought them back to Richmond. The children then underwent “a thorough system of renovation” that included the provision of “clean and comfortable garments,” basic etiquette training, and examinations by medical and psychological doctors.

Initially, wards were placed under the care of Rev. Maybee’s wife, Mary McLeod Maybee, and the Belle Bryan Day Nursery. In 1905, the Board purchased a house at 2605 East Franklin Street to serve as a receiving home and central office; another receiving home was opened in Roanoke in 1920. Local advisory boards around Virginia handled much of the recruitment and screening of foster families, and helped monitor foster placements. Those children who were never adopted remained the responsibility of the CHS until they reached adulthood, became self-supporting, or married.

Change came to the Society in 1926 when it joined the Child Welfare League of America and began a process of reorganization based on League observations. Their recommendations touched on a variety of areas including fire safety in the receiving homes, hygiene, nutrition, record-keeping, the manner of disciplining the children, the selection of foster homes, and other topics. One major adjustment resulting from the study came with the shift to a staff of trained social workers.

With its budget coming entirely from donations (and, starting in 1930, from the Richmond Community Fund), the Society struggled financially in its early years. By the early 1930’s it was in danger of closing under the weight of $50,000 in debt. Led by then-Governor John Garland Pollard and other prominent supporters, the state-wide “Spring Emergency Campaign” of 1931 yielded enough funds to erase the Society’s debt and bring a measure of financial stability. The Society later partnered with the United Way for several years as an additional source of funds.
The receiving home was closed in 1934, signaling the Society’s move to an emphasis on temporary boarding home (foster) care in advance of permanent adoption placement. (Childrens Home Society of Virginia)

Madge Goodrich researched this house in 1937 for the Works Progress Administration of Virginia.
The Children's Home Society of Virginia was an orphanage. The society owned the house from 1905 till 1921. It was conducted for a number of years by Dr. Mabie (sic), who later moved the orphanage to Highland Park. The house is often spoken of as the Mabie House, from this fact. The children were under the age of twelve and four. The house being too small for their numbers, the Society rented a part of the house at the west for about five years.
Although Madge was not able to determine a date, the City of Richmond calls it at 1859, so we’ll roll with that. She does note that it was owned by Hector Davis at the time, and sold the following year to Alexander Walker. (Library of Virginia)
The Children’s Home Society of Virginia is still going strong, now performing their worthy function in the Near West End on Fitzhugh Avenue.

I love William Shakespeare but couldn't recite any of his work now either. But a lot of the above were mandatory reading for my A Levels in English Literature and English Language. Good times. I love the poems as well but they're not on here 🤔 Aren't poems also books? 🤔

In a world where Hero was normally a Griswald, they were a Grinch this Christmas. Their emotions kept on flipflopping: one moment, they're enjoying themselves and the holidays again a little more; the next moment, they could've sworn their heart shrank a couple of sizes. And with her kids not around to distract her and help remember the magic of the season again, it was easy to fall back into Grinch-mode. Just sitting at one of the comfy chairs near one of the indoor fireplaces, arms crossed over their chest and dark eyes glaring into the flames. Unfortunately, they knew what stage they're at in their heartbreak: anger. Logically, it made no fucking sense to be so angry. Them and Jaiden talked and figured things out amicably. Though, maybe, the anger was more so at themself than at their ex. Maybe they're upset that they were ready for a lot of things in their relationship, even though they could've sworn that they had been back in September when they decided to give things a chance. Maybe they're upset because they think that they didn't try hard enough. Maybe it was a variety of things. All they knew was that they were angry and nothing would—... What the fuck is on their head? Slowly, Hero reached up and felt the furry earmuffs, turning their head to look at the assailant. Seeing Atlas and that stupid grin of his, they couldn't help but to smile back stupidly as well. "Thanks," they said softly. "I needed that."

"You realize this might be the year where she starts to remember begging for her own personal farm for the third year in a row and is going to try to force us to keep our promise, right?" Never would Asli have expected for this to become a tradition for them. What had seemed like a little outing just a mere lifetime ago, was now something that Alex, and even Asli admittedly, looked forward to once this time of the year came around. After how limited these three have gotten the past few months concerning family time, she was happy that they were able to make this work. While Alex was going on a llama ride for the fourth time already, the brunette glanced up at the man. Opting to wear more loose and flowy outfits for the event, she made sure that no one would be able to tell that she was pregnant. It was a work in progress still. And there was no way she was going to risk the father of her first child find out she was having her third pregnancy on a day where they're focusing on Alex and spending time with her. "What do you say? Should we try to make Alex's farmer dreams come true or should we grab Dylan again to help simmer down said dreams? Because I truly have no idea what to do when it comes to farming." Well, modern day farming, that is.

“Okay, just a little bit to the left... No, my left... Okay, good, good... Maybe down a centimeter or two? Keep goinnnnng... Annnnd... Okay, yeah, stop! That’s perfect!” Devi beamed proudly, arms crossed over her chest as she took in the sight of the new sign inside the store. While she’ll forever love the original location for the Comic Lab, it was time for a change. And now, what with a giant Macy’s no longer being added to the mall, Devi took the opportunity to transform the giant three-level building attached to the bustling mall and make it the new store front. With the first level consisting of the iconic comics (hence, obviously, the name), along with books, magazine, video games, and the new café dedicated to serving drinks and food inspired by a variety of fandoms and literatures (IE, essentially, similar to a standard Barnes and Noble sans the typical Starbucks; The Shire Café, at least, is union); With the second level consisting of all kinds of merchandise, similar to that of FYE and Hot Topic minus the emo-ness, and also selling products for any cosplaying, roleplaying, and similar needs; And the third level being an arcade area, having the opportunity for prospective buyers to play certain games and see how they like them before purchasing: Devi was ready to take the store to a new level. And it was officially open for business.
It felt strange, in a way, to own a new business. With the Jade Palace, she grew up learning the ins and outs of it. It was as much of a second nature to her as writing was. Yet, she didn’t feel guilty for giving the hotelier to her cousin. If anything, she was the perfect person for the job and over the past nine months, has proven herself time and time again. With the Comic Lab, though, this was different. This was a new territory for her. If she were to fuck up, it’ll be much harder to make amends.
Clearing her throat, she shook her head and took a sip of her pumpkin spice hot chocolate. Yes, yes, December was around the corner. However, she was going to enjoy her pumpkin spice for as long as possible, thank you very much. Roaming around the first level, doing some minor facing, there weren’t many people there yet. Then again, it was ten AM on a school day. She doubts that there’ll be many people for awhile. However, she soon noticed someone nearby out of the corner of her eye. Beginning to smile, she turned to face them, beginning to say, “Anything I can help you-...” Her voice faltered. “... W-With...” It’s been too long since she last spoke with Atlas Williams. While part of her could feel her old annoyance, frustration, and anger starting to bubble back up, there was also the part of her that missed him. That just wanted to rush over to him and hug him. “Hey,” she finally breathed out.

With her parents watching over the girls for the night, Asli and Eli were taking this as an opportunity to have a date night. To get dressed up and look as silly as possible. Knowing how much her boyfriend loved the Barbie movie released over the summer, she hadn't been too surprised when he suggested that they went as Rollerblading Barbie and Ken for the skate night. Of course, part of her had felt a little self-conscious in the brightly coloured Spandex outfits. Having spent the past few years doing something more-so historical for Halloween. Yet, with Eli's encouragement and after a moment, she began to feel more comfortable. If not slightly cold, but things were fine once she got inside the building.
There'd been a handful of 'Hi Barbies' and 'Hi Kens', yet it all made Asli laugh happily. Even though the couple weren't the absolute best when it came to skating (though, the flashbacks to December when they took Alex out on an ice rink caused her to smile happily), they were certainly making sure to have fun. Everyone was, it seemed. Though, she'd be lying if she said she hadn't noticed a familiar being out there and trying to do his best. Smiling brightly and with Eli off to get them snacks, she rollerbladed over to Atlas. "You know, one time while we were living in Tanzania, I watched this baby giraffe walk for the first time. Swaying in confusion yet still determined to do its best. This was far more adorable than that." Giggling, the curator took a seat next to him. "If it's any consolation, I think people are more so noticing your simple outfit than your skating skills. No Michael Myers mask tonight? Or did my right hook scare you too much last time?" While part of her would always feel guilty over accidentally punching him when he tried scaring her last year, she was happy to be able to joke about it now. ||📜@atlaswilliams

If it hadn't of been for his wife-to-be tugging him out the front door, the vertically gifted male never would have left the couch. Chest buzzed with excitement and nerves fluttered in the pit of his stomach at the thought of lacing up and going out as if he knew what the hell he was doing. Even as he kicked off his worn boots and traded them out for his terrible fate on wheels, there was still a small amount of hope that it wouldn't be nearly as awful as he'd imagined. Beads of sweat settled at his hairline as he stayed put at his seat, his dark gaze sweeping over the area before inevitably landing on a woman he knew well. The colorful lights did wonders to blind one's view, but a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as she moved closer. "And just when I thought I'd get to embarrass myself without anyone I knew around to see," he greeted, a nervous hand lifting to brush his fingertips against his forehead.

“Good news! I come bearing food. Bad news! I don’t come bearing with our mini me. My parents got her for the next couple of hours.” Which, admittedly, she was conflicted over. Of course, Asli wasn’t going to tell both Atlas and Alex together at the same time that she was pregnant. She was worried that Alex would become even more confused and ask if the baby was with Atlas before learning that the baby was Ray’s. On the other hand, she had no idea how the father of her first child was going to react and she wasn’t sure whether or not Alex’s presence could have any type of influence on him. Yet in the end, their daughter being at Asli’s parents’ was probably for the best. Smiling and keeping her nerves in check, she plopped the bags of food onto the island. “How’re you feeling? After affects of the bash still getting to you?”
