Doing this again because I accidentally deleted my previous post but gives me a chance to also add a third muse into the mix. So heart this if you would like a starter from Captain Olivia Benson, ADA Alex Cabot or LTC Sarah Mackenzie. If you are a multi-muse blog specify which muse because my brain is uncapable of making decisions at the moment.

Avery Lucas ( faceclaim: chloe bennett ): - destiny 2 based titan in fireteam aeternum - in modern verse, she’s an underground fighter - sees the fun in all things violent and is really just the type of person to see joy in life always
Cameron McCormick ( faceclaim: hugh dancy ): - accountant / underground crime boss - literally a serial killer with ASPD - only cares about two or three people in separate verses, and will do anything to protect them
Donovan Crayford ( faceclaim: michael malarkey ): - auto mechanic - spent most of his life dating kiana before breaking it off when she returned from overseas - tries to spread joy where he can, volunteers in his spare time at shelters and hospitals
Dylan Abernathy ( faceclaim: amy acker ): - farmer / veteran - literal human sunshine who makes it her goal to brighten the day of whoever she comes across - most of the workers on her farm were homeless before she met them and offered them a place to work and live
Estela Tavares ( faceclaim: becky g ): - high demon queen, previously a succubus - feeds off of the literal life essence of humans and various other beings - overly cocky / confident and believes she can do no wrong
Gavin Fischer ( faceclaim: cody christian ): - kind of a deadbeat genius - works as a waiter in a local steakhouse to help provide for his three siblings and parents - dreams of one day being a physicist and discovering new things and being able to earn a lot of money so his parents and siblings never have to want again
Grayson Hauser ( faceclaim: tahmoh penikett ): - POI based ISA / Samaritan agent - comes off really gruff and stoic / flat effect almost - soft when it comes to the people he cares about, will protect them, oblivious to the bigger picture and only follows orders

Joey Belmont ( faceclaim: stella maeve ): - atomic blonde based double agent ( CIA / SVR ) - spends a lot of her time undercover in the US investigating - never shows who she really is and crafts a different personality for every meeting, in actuality a very lonely, dark person
Katia Boystov ( faceclaim: lyndsy fonseca ): - gta based crew assassin - runs with an all female crew and is known for how loud her assassinations are - her personality is much like her style of violence: wild and in your face
Ke'aslas ( faceclaim: charlie cox ): - elder god based oc - was summoned to earth eons ago and has been existing just underneath the surface - once technology began to uprise, they poured their essence into it. flickering lights? static on a tv? look closer and you will see and hear Them.
Kiana Razavi ( faceclaim: sarah shahi ): - air force veteran - severe ptsd. night terrors, flashbacks. - the softest but also literally the most pathetic. latches onto any kindness and very easily falls in love because she craves affection and attention
Lex Stovall ( faceclaim: amy acker ): - fuckboy neurosurgeon - amab feminine agender person ( she/ her pronouns, male and nb titles ( dr, sir, mx, etc ) - too cocky and confident to function tbh. addicted to painkillers and drinks too much wine. afraid of commitment after her divorce
Mitchell Calloway ( faceclaim: jason bateman ): - assistant district attorney - very much the smarmy villain type you would expect him to be - he’s charming in a way that seems unsettling and only in it for the money
Oliver Ward ( faceclaim: matthew gray gubler ): - continuing ed. english professor, only teaches night classes - very soft and very gay man who finds joy in fictional stories and fantasy - somehow has his life together but looks a mess always, very disorganized and very disheveled
Owen Rebours ( faceclaim: richard harmon ): - destiny 2 based hunter of fireteam aeternum - the quietest hunter on the front. very focused on making sure the job is done, but loves the challenge - has a gambling problem, but bets only on crucible matches and never plays himself
Rosalind Harston ( faceclaim: olivia taylor dudley ): - late 1800s vampire - nearly feral and lacks a humanity. her feralness translates into a sense of uncaring and feeds without remorse - tends to prey on the stronger because the challenge is greater
Rosana Naceri ( faceclaim: sarah shahi ): - psychology professor / self help book author - completely fucked up after witnessing her father kill her mom and translates that into trying to help others, though does not follow her own advice - rarely speaks unless its needed, and is quick to anger or judgement
Rowan Knight ( faceclaim: katie mcgrath ): - up and coming mob queen - ambitious to a fault and tends to take her anger and frustration out on those close to her - prefers ruling from a perch and doesn’t like getting her hands dirty, but will if she has to
Roya Veisi ( faceclaim: sarah shahi ): - ex marine bodyguard - is the type that feels too much and thinks its a weakness, so she comes off as stoic and unfeeling - lets her anxieties get the better of her when it comes to social situations
Savina ( faceclaim: alycia debnam carey ): - feral werewolf - literally acts like more animal than person, has lived on her on in the wilds since she was young bc separated from her pack / family - is barely in control of her beast and spends a lot of time trying to figure out how to get in under wraps without knowing how
Siya Parekh ( faceclaim: naomi scott ): - literal princess of a made up city ( gotta write this up ) - very prim and proper in public but is also politely sarcastic in a way that turns heads - tends to leave other royalty and politicians confused and surprised at how well she navigates matters
Theo Bradford ( faceclaim: jeffrey dean morgan ): - physics professor - single dad, divorced and estranged from his ex wife - shy, quiet kind of guy. keeps to himself mostly and focuses more on his work and providing for his daughter
Tobias Gallo ( faceclaim: sean teale ): - background vocalist of an indie band - mainly sings, but also plays violin and wants to break off from the band and start his own career - goes with the flow most of the time and pours his heart and soul into his music
Victor Moreno ( faceclaim: diego luna ): - account executive for ford motors - a blind man and uses a cane rather than a seeing eye dog - finds fun and joy in literally every moment, and goes out of his way to make sure the people around him are also seeing things in a new light ( figuratively )

Hello Bookworms! Hope you’re all having a wonderful day and if you’re anything like me, you are looking at the clock waiting for the end of the work day. Find the person who thought it was a good idea to work any day past Christmas & you have your Grinch #jussayin
When I sat down to make my list of top 2018 books I’m looking forward to, I quickly realized my post would be a mile long and I just couldn’t do that to you lovely Bookworms. So instead I opted to split my list into two posts, this post will be for 2018 sequels I’m anticipating in the new year. The second post will be stand-alone/series starters. I have 12 sequels I’m super stoked for so grab your fave snack & or beverage cause ya girl has compiled a bit of a list (no particular order)…
1. The Winter of the Witch (Winternight Trilogy #3) by Katherine Arden aka the book I NEED like air!
I recently read & reviewed The Girl in the Tower (my spoiler free review here) which was utter PERFECTION! Just when I thought this trilogy could not get any better, Arden gave us The Girl in the Tower & now my nights are consumed thinking about the final installment in the world *sobs* This is not the final cover btw, I’m sure the final one will be GLORIOUS as they all have been! Scheduled for August 2018, a little earlier than the December release dates I’ve gotten grown accustomed to with these wintry books but HOORAY regardless!
2. Obsidio (The Illuminae Files #3) by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
Anyone who has read the first two books in the Illuminae Files can probably tell you how addictive this series really is smh. I was initially intimidated by the format of these books & it took me about a year to finally decide to read the first one…NEVER looked back after that! I will most likely devour Obsidio in one sitting, March 13th you have been claimed!
3. Nyxia Unleashed (The Nyxia Triad #3) by Scott Reintgen
Having recently read Nyxia (my review here), the adrenaline I felt reading this book is still pretty vivid. Not only was the plot fast paced edge of your seat FANTASTIC! the characters are easily some of my favorite in all of YA. Coming from all corners of the world, the crew of Nyxia offers up the diversity we are currently lacking in YA Sci-Fi. Nyxia Unleashed is set to hit the shelves July 2018 *eeeeK*
4. The Heart Forger (The Bone Witch #2) by Rin Chupeco
Last year I read The Bone Witch (my review here) & fell in love with the world building Rin Chupeco had created. I was actually surprised that it wasn’t labeled Adult Fantasy considering the expanse & complexities of the world. This was a real treat for myself seeing as I love details & lush writing which The Bone Witch pulled off beautifully often times reminding me of Memoirs of a Geisha. This wonderful sequel is set to be released March 2018!
5. Iron Gold (Red Rising #4) by Pierce Brown
The Red Rising Trilogy (I can’t call it this anymore) is one that I am a hardcore fan of…no seriously though, I’m a Howler through & through! If this now series had ended with Morning Star, I would’ve been Ok because it was one of the BEST most EPIC endings I’ve ever read. To have read the news of that the world would be expanding was AMAZING for both myself & the hubby who is also a big fan. I read these books before creating Lair Of Books & missed out on fangirling with other Blogger buddies. Well, January 16th is almost upon us & I cannot wait to get my hands on this book! any Howler fans out there?
6. Defy the Worlds (Constellation #2) by Claudia Gray
Defy the Stars (my review here) was my 1st Claudia Gray book & it won’t be my last. I had heard of Gray’s books before getting a galley for Defy the Stars & now I can see why. The world building in the start of this series is fun & introduces us to a A.I. whose dry humor will leave you smiling in disbelief. I was lucky to get my hands on a arc copy of Defy the Worlds but I’m still including it in this list because I will be buying a finished copy on release day. Gray has some of the BEST covers I’ve come across & I’m already obsessed with this one, April 3rd will be the day I get my hands on this pretty little book *heart eyes*
7. Whisper of the Tide (Song of the Current #2) by Sarah Tolcser
If you’re looking for high seas adventure, Song of the Current (my review here) is probably the book for you! I enjoyed the authentic pirate talk and the world building was on point with clothing, way of life, and mythos behind the Gods. What I loved most is that we get a POC MC who knows her calling in life and won’t easily be thrown off by a love interest. Caro is non-traditional & won’t settle for societal norms. June 5th I’m hoping you’re a warm day I can count on for a iced drink & return to the treacherous waters in this world 🙂
8. Daughter of the Siren Queen (Daughter of the Pirate King #2) by Tricia Levenseller
Oh goodness! I can’t even begin to describe my excitement over the follow-up to Daughter Of the Pirate King (my review here). I was so very lucky to have a arc recently gifted to me by the wonderful Ashley over at Socially Awkward Bookworm, she made my year! DOTPK offered up so many laughs alongside a kick a** MC who is the female Jack Sparrow. If Pirates of the Caribeean (prior to Depps shameful behavior) brought you much enjoyment, chances are DOTPK will be a hit for you as well. Ahoy Mateys! February 27th is the day the sequel finds its way to our shores 🙂
9. Grey Sister (Book Of the Ancestor #2) by Mark Lawrence
I read my very first Mark Lawrence earlier this year & I’m so happy It was a good place to start after hearing so much about this well known author. Red Sister (my review here) was a 5 star gloriously bloody EPIC start to the Book of the Ancestor series! In my review I described the setting for Red Sister as Hogwarts mixed with a Ludus (like in Spartacus). Vivid fight scenes, positive female friendships and positive LGBTQIA representation are just some of the things you’ll find in this new Fantasy. Red Sister is perfect for those who read only YA Fantasy and are looking to get their feet wet in adult Fantasy. April 19th is the date set to return this ruthless world 🙂
10. Catwoman SoulStealer (DC Icons #3) by Sarah J. Maas
I don’t really have much to say about this one…I own a copy of Wonder Woman which I haven’t read yet. I came to the decision that I wanted to wait for a few of these books in the series to be out before starting cause I reallllllly dislike waiting haha! I am VERY interested in how Selina Kyle is written considering she is half white/half Cuban. We’ll know more on August 7th!
11. My Plain Jane (The Lady Janies #2) by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton
I’d link my review for My Lady Jane but it’s soOo old when I was still in my baby stages of blogging so no thanks hehe! My Lady Jane was the book to make my water almost come out through my nose smh LOL! So silly & filled with hilarious banter, I LOVED that book! from that book came the formation of The Lady Janies which are the 3 awesome authors who brought the characters I fell in love with to life. My Plain Jane is a MUST HAVE & THAT cover is giving me all the Summer vibes! I’ll see you on June 26th Jane 🙂
12. The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy (Guide #2) by Mackenzi Lee
You may have noticed the cover for this title isn’t displayed above and that’s because there hasn’t been a cover reveal. Earlier this year I read The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue (my review here) which was a ton of fun. I’ve really been enjoying YA Historical Fiction lately & this is definitely one of my top favorites. Although I loved the MC Henry oh so much! I really ended up intrigued by his little sister Felicity & I know I’m not alone in this. The Goodreads Synopsis has the following listed:
A sequel to The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, narrated by Felicity and featuring travel, pirates, and a science girl gang.
I mean…who can resist this?!?! Not I said Lilly…October 2nd is the day to pick up a copy!
Happy Wednesday Bookworms! this list took me a bit longer to type up than expected which is making me give post II the stink eye haha! (wayyyyy longer) & i’m sure I’ve forgotten others. Also, If I didn’t list a sequel it’s possible I haven’t read the 1st cause waiting sucks (Strange the Dreamer & Lady Midnight/Lord of Shadows I’m looking at ya). Please sound off below with any titles that come to mind <3’s!

What Are The Best Tv Shows On Netflix
Best TV Shows on Netflix Right Now Scattered one of the better TV shows on Netflix are more and more of the streaming platform’s own original series. Watching TV on Netflix has gotten better and better as the support continues to add to its amazing catalog of network and cable collection, not to mention the proliferation of flashy Netflix originals. In reality, the business that spent its formative years in an effort to to see films has since become in the world’s main enabler of binge-watching. Our listing of the greatest shows on Netflix is here to help you discover the next TV series to devour, and we’ve appeared through the enormous catalog (USA only, sorry) to find these suggestions.
Breaking Bad
Creator: Vince Gilligan Stars: Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul Giancarlo Esposito Network: AMC One of the things that created Breaking Bad one of the alltime greats was the writers did a phenomenal job introducing plot lines, complicated themes and tips, and then weaving them all together for an excessively fulfilling conclusion. It’s not an easy thing to do, especially when the display asks the audience to hold on tight until the end to see where it’s all going. In that way it’s similar to The Wire, a show that didn’t hammer its audience within the the pinnacle constantly with flashy occasions, but requested for patience as all the plot threads gradually untangled. And with Breaking Bad’s narrower focus, the stakes and emotional ties we have using the story and figures can be significantly higher.
Sherlock
Creators: Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat Stars: Rupert Graves, Benedict Cumberbatch Mark Gatiss Network: BBC One h-AS only to seem in the sterling monitor record of Steve Moffat to witness a showrunner godin the creating. The guiding hand behind such English hits as Press Gang and Coupling, Moffat has acquired the most attention for resuscitating Dr. Who into the Anglo Saxon ambassador of science fiction. But Moffat and frequent collaborator Mark Gatiss transcended their best work with Sherlock, the BBC drama that hi Jacks Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic sleuth into the present with awe-inspiring intelligence and type. Calling Sherlock a TV series is a tad misleading, although; the series h AS created two seasons consisting of three 90 -minute episodes each. In other words, a feature film has been averaged by the Sherlock group every 90 days since the Summer of 2010. The immaculate second period dug deeper into the psychological faultlines of Holmes, played with sterile arrogance by Benedict Cumberbatch (or as Seth Meyers mentioned on SNL, the only real man with a name mo Re preposterous than Sherlock Holmes). When the audience wasn’t trying to piece together the secret of the week, we were discovering fleeting clues to the guarded humanity of London’s best “Consulting Detective,”typically to the chagrin of longsuffering accomplice John Watson (Martin Freeman) and volatile love curiosity Irene Adler (Lara Pulver).
Dear White People
Creator: Justin Simien Stars:: Logan Browning, Brandon P. Giancarlo Esposito, Bell, DeRon Horton, Antoinette Robertson Ashley Blaine Featherson Network: Netflix Based on creator Justin Simien’s 2014 indie, Netflix’s unique series—narrated by Breaking Negative and Better Call Saul’s Giancarlo Esposito—replicates the pungent humor of the movie without ever see-ming stale, or static: Its knives are sharp, and they’re pointed in every path. Though its primary goal is white privilege, in forms both egregious (black-face events) and mundane (calls to finish “divisive”politics), Expensive White People, established on the campus of a fictional Ivyleague university, is even funnier when it turns to the information on the black students’ individual and ideological choices, transforming the the idea of the “problematic fave,”from the McRib to The Cosby Present into the engine of its own entertaining, incisive comedy.
The Fall
Creator: Allan Cubitt Stars: Gillian Anderson, Jamie Dornan, Valene Kane, SéalinÃn Brennan Bronagh Taggart Sarah Beattie Network: BBC Let it be known that before he was Christian Grey, Jamie Dornan proved his performing chops and charisma as a disturbingly undisturbable murderer in this superb psychological thriller. Dornan’s mild mannered husband, father and grief counselor (!) is on the list of most terrifying onscreen serial killers in recent memory. Paul Spector is a stalker, as exacting and methodical as his eventual pursuer. Enter Gillian Anderson’s Stella Gibson, a British detective superintendent called to Belfast to look into a spate of gruesome murders. As the cat-and-mouse sport intensifies, Anderson’s characterization is its own triumph: analytical, uncompromising, reserved, but brazenly sexual on her own terms, completely unfazed by the politicking and dick-swinging of her male colleagues. That we know the identification of the killer from the show’s first frames, but can’t t-AKE our eyes off the screen is a testament to the stealth creep with which The Fall operates.
Amy TV Show
The Office (U.K., U.S.)
Creators: Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant; U.S. edition developed by Greg Daniels Stars: U.K.: Ricky Gervais, Martin Freeman, Mackenzie Crook, Lucy Davis, Oliver Chris, Patrick Baladi, Stacey Roca, Ralph Ineson, Stirling Gallacher; U.S.: Steve Carell B, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer. J. Novak, Oscar Nunez, Brian Baumgartner, Angel A Kinsey, Ed Helms, Creed Bratton, Phyllis Smith, Leslie David Baker, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling Networks: BBC, NBC Ricky Gervais’ immortal Brit-Com deserves full marks for establishing this comedy franchise that killed the laugh monitor and introduced us to a hilarious bunch of paper-pushing mopes. Defying expectations that it could pale in comparison, NBC’s Workplace became an institution unto it self. While displaying much more heart in relation to the gang could muster in old England at its best, the American model was just as awkward as its predecessor.
Parks and Recreation
Creators: Greg Daniels Stars: Rashida Jones, Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Aziz Ansari, Adam Scott, Rob Low-E, Chris Pratt, Aubrey Plaza Network: NBC Recreation and Parks began its run as a relatively common mirror of The Off Ice, but in its third-season, the student became the master. As it’s fleshed-out with oddballs and unusual metropolis quirks, Pawnee has become the greatest tv town since Springfield. Today, the present flourished this yr with a few of the most unique and interesting figures in comedy. With one of the one of the biggest creating staffs of any present, Re Creation and Parks is only got better with time.
30 Rock
Creator: Tina Fey Stars: Judah Friedlander, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer, Scott Adsit Network: NBC The religious successor to Arrested Development, 3 Rock succeeded where its competition failed by mainly ignoring the real process of making a television show and instead focusing on the life span of one one person responsible of the procedure, played by display creator Tina Fey. 30 Rock never loses track of its own focus and generates a remarkably deep character for the its circus to spin around. But Fey’s perhaps not the only one that makes the sequence. Consistently spot-on performances by Tracy Morgan—whether frequenting strip clubs or a werewolf bar mitzvah—and Alec Baldwin’s evil plans for microwave-tele-vision programming produce an ideal le Vel of chaos for the show’s writers to unravel every week. 30 Rock doesn’t have intricate themes or a deep concept, but that stuff would be in the way of its own goal: having probably one of the most of the most regularly funny shows on Television. Suffice to say, it succeeded.
Arrested Development
Creator: Mitch Hurwitz Stars: Ron Howard, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, David Cross, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Alia Shawkat Networks: Fox, Netflix Mitch Hurwitz’ sit-com about a “wealthy family who lost every thing and the one son who'd no choice except to keep them all together”packed an entire lot of awesome into three short seasons. How much awesome? Well, there was the chicken dance, for starters. And Franklin’s “It’s Maybe Not Simple Being White.”There was Ron Howard’s place-on narration, and Tobias Funke’s Blue Man ambitions. There was Mrs. Featherbottom and Charlize Theron as Rita, Michael Bluth’s mentally challenged love curiosity. Not with every loose thread tying s O flawlessly in to another act h AS a story line that is comic been therefore perfectly built, since Seinfeld. Arrested Development took self-referencing post modernism to an intense that was absurdist, jumping shark but that was the level. They even induced the initial shark-jumper—Henry Winkler—as the family lawyer. When he was changed, normally, it was by Scott Baio. All of the Bluth family members was one of the better characters on tele-vision, and Jason Bateman performed a man that is straight that is brilliant to all of them. And after years of rumors, the present came ultimately back to Netflix for a fourth season—different in both construction and tone, but nevertheless, a gift to enthusiasts who'd to say goodbye to the Bluths alltoo so-on.
Orange is the New Black
Creator: Jenji Kohan Stars: Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon. Harney, Michelle Hurst, Kate Mulgrew Network: Netflix Orange is the New Black is completely suited for the Netflix shipping program, if only as it might have been agonizing to wait a week for a new episode. But there’s more; the construct felt cinematic and compared to your average show, and I couldn’t help but feel that the all-at once release airplane freed the creators to make some thing less episodic and more free-flowing. Taylor Schilling stars as Piper Chapman, a woman living a content contemporary existence when her past rears up abruptly to tackle her from behind; 10 years earlier in the day, she was briefly a drug mule for her lover Alex Vause (the the wonderful Laura Prepon), and when Vause needed to plea her sentence down, she threw in the towel Piper. The story is based on the real-life events of Piper Kerman, whose e-book of the same title was the inspiration, but the truth is that the screen version is miles better. Schilling is the engine that drives the plot, and her odd blend of normal serenity combined with together with the growing rage and desperation in the late turn her life has taken strikes the perfect tone for a lifetime inside the women’s jail. Within the first few episodes, jail is treated like an almost-quirky novelty she’ll have to experience for 15 months, along with the wisest option director Jenji Kohan made (and there are many) was to heighten the stakes so that what starts as an off kilter journey quickly assumes the severe proportions prison lifestyle demands. And as fantastic as Prepon and Schilling are together, the cast is therefore universally outstanding that it almost beggars belief. You can find too many characters who make gold making use of their constrained display time to mention individually, but suffice it to say that there’s enough comedy, pathos and tragedy here for several exhibits. The reality that they fit therefore effectively into one makes OITNB a triumph .
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Creators: Tina Fey Stars: Sara Chase, Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Karkowski, Carol Kane, Lauren Adams Network: Netflix NBC has made any number of mistakes over the years, but few greater than shelving Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s 3-0 Rock follow up, before punting it over to Netflix. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt wound-up becoming one of the highlights of a great year for TV comedy. The fast-paced and flip sit com showcased breakout performances by Office vet Ellie Kemper as the titular former “mole woman”attempting to make it on on her behalf own in New York, and Tituss Burgess as her flamboyant and put-upon room mate, Titus Andromedon. (NBC has recently tri Ed to make it up to Kemper for dropping the ball on this by planting her in the guest host chair at Today—too little, also late, peacock peddlers.) Throughout the first season’s run, some writers and critics seemed deadset on finding some kind of flaw to pounce on using the present, zeroing in on the way in which the minority characters are re-presented. This may be a wild generalization, but I feel this was an organic reaction to perhaps one of the most of the most feminist sitcoms ever produced. Kimmy Schmidt is definitely upsetting the natural purchase of your network sit com that is typical. The show’s titular character is defining her li Fe on her own conditions and by her own standards. For many reason that still freaks out some people so they dismiss it or find some way to poke holes in the automobile for that idea. That is what makes the prospect of a second time so exciting. As the show can go in a myriad of directions that are different, so too can Kimmy Schmidt. Now that she has put the awful time in the bunker to mattress, she is able to face a brand new day with enthusiastic embrace of life-experience mindset, and that smile. Sorry nit pickers and network executives; Kimmy Schmidt will make it after all.

APRIL, 2017
“How the fuck am I supposed to just waltz my ass into Canada like nothing’s happened?”
Macey’s phone was propped up on her bed, wedged between pillows, while a similar looking face stared back. A not-so mentioned fact was that Macey had three older sisters—of the non-demigod variety. The youngest of those was watching Macey pace through the phone. Same big, green eyes, same sharp smile.
“Well, you waltz your ass back into Canada, for starters,” Mackenzie shrugged, spinning in her desk chair, “Then you be the bridesmaid in Maddie’s wedding like you promised you would. It’s really not that hard.” It’s also a not-so mentioned fact that, yes, her sisters did all have names that also start with ‘M’.
A teary call on New Years Eve from Maddie, the second oldest, informed her that her girlfriend proposed right as the clock hit midnight. That same night, Macey had bet her family—of the demigod variety—that she could drink more champagne than any of them. So, naturally, no thought went into her excited shout of “Yes!” when asked to be a bridesmaid.
The past three months had been a regretful existence.
“Oh, yeah,” Macey rolled her eyes, “Maybe if you weren’t ungracefully kicked out of your house until you learned how to fucking behave.”
“Um, don’t get sassy with me, I’m being honest. It’s what I’m here for. Besides, Mom misses you.”
The snort that came from Macey was a resounding reply, “You’re funny, Kenz.”
“I’m serious,” The other girl continued, “Like, do you get that she thought you may have died? You didn’t tell anyone you had to go fight a fucking war, Macey. She was terrified.”
“’Mom’, ‘terrified’, and ‘me’ only work together in a sentence if it involves me stealing a car or running from the police. Even then, that’s a stretch.”
Kenzie knew how to stare right through her, like she could slice through every defense mechanism and straight into her soul. That, coupled with an eye roll, had Macey squirming even through the phone. “Yeah, three years ago maybe. It doesn’t take a neuroscientist to see that’s a fucking dead horse you keep beating. Um, also,” She stared into her soul further, this time adding a flirty wink, “I’m tired of saying hi to Brent over FaceTime. I need to embarrass you in person.”
“Can’t you just come to New York?” Macey whined, not acknowledging the fact that any of the previous statements were true.
“No. You know how important it is to Maddie that you’re at her and Sarah’s wedding. That’s all I gotta say. It’s next month, aka way too late to back out. If you really didn’t wanna go you would’ve changed your mind ages ago.”
Macey sighed, “You’re the actual worst.”
“Because I’m right.” Kenzie grinned, “I have to go, but I can’t wait to see you!”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Kenzie gave a series of exaggerated air-blown kisses and Macey did the same, then watched the phone go black. She didn’t have a choice.

It has been the most horrible week of her life. Between her mother’s reappearance in her life and a case that just reminds her of all the bad she had gone through growing up, Sarah Mackenzie was ready to waste away in the confinement of her apartment. She had spend the entirety of that time pushing Harm away so she didn’t get to see the ugliest parts she kept tucked away but it took just one look and Mac had been bawling her heart out to him and now she is ashamed which pushed her to her MO of pretending that never really happened.
But it did and she feels like crap.
As she sat on the couch, scented candle lit and a book in her hands, Mac tried to focus solely on someone else story that had less baggage than hers and for the most part it was working. Sure she was ignoring all the phone calls she was getting ( well then ones that weren’t work related of course ) and even though it was one of those moment when she is itching for a drink, Mac had managed to pull it together. All she was waiting for is that pizza she ordered fifteen minutes ago and when the doorbell rang, she was relief that her food was finally here. Putting the book mark between the pages she had been reading, Mac reached for her wallet that had been safely on the coffee table and headed to the door. When she opened it, the smile that had been covering her face disappeared only to be replaced by utter confusion to Harm’s presence at her door step. “Harm…” and he, of course, was holding the pizza she had ordered.
Mac should have known better than to pretend that he wouldn’t come over to check up on her. He always did, and she is grateful for it even though at the moment she is mortified at the way she looks.
