There is very little Todd likes about himself. He’s made of imperfections and things he wishes he could change. He’s managed to change some –– covering freckles with tattoos, piercing the parts of himself he hates, throwing up a comical, happy attitude to mask the deeper parts of himself. Over the years those tattoos fade in colour. Over the years those piercings are ripped out. Over the years that wall of personality needs repairing. 

His lips have never been something he’s liked. They’re too big for his face, ever swollen. They’re too dry from running his mouth, ever chapped. They’re too wounded from his antics, ever split. 

There’s damage there. A scar that sits in the dead centre of his lower lip which is the result of never having given his lip time to heal enough. He stretches it with wide smiles of false joy, he’s pierced it to hide the scar that rests there –– only for it to have been ripped out a few years back and make the scar that much more visible. 

Lee has been with him long enough to see why that spot never heals. He’s been licking at it all day, and now she’s come over to silently tell him to stop in her own way. He watches her lips as she watches his, feeling the deep intimacy that comes with someone touching your lips, touching a scar. He’s done so many times to her; was this what it felt like? Breath is caught in his throat, as if expecting her to scold him for such a thing. She doesn’t. 

His breath sighs out of him as she presses her lips to his. Hands slip around her waist loosely, folding themselves into the fabric of her shirt before he hauls her hips closer, bumping them against his while he leans forward to match her kiss with his own.
