ita thoughts as usual... i've had this concept sitting in my drafts for a while

so... very early on in canon, i can't find the manga panel, but in the anime sub, italy says "i've always been ruled by another country, so i've always dreamed of having a friend."

then in the hetalia collezione that came out a few years ago...

italy is stated to view germany as his first friend.

so just. first of all. holy shit. this guy has been around at least 1500 years and GERMANY. WHO HE MET IN THE 1900S, IS THE FIRST PERSON HE HIMSELF CONSIDERS TO BE HIS FIRST FRIEND? the first person who doesn't treat him like an object to claim ownership over (how i'm interpreting things, anyway). can we talk about this. can we talk about how lonely he must have been all those years. can we talk about the fact that as many people as he knew, he never considered any of them to be a friend to him? can we talk about the fact that maybe he's so friendly because he was so lonely for so long...

hm. it does really suck to me that a vulnerable disorder like DID has become a breeding ground for such nastiness. u go into spaces looking for resources to get better and it's full of people insisting others are faking and why. what's odd is that recommended treatment for the disorder is what gets fakeclaimed, so you're expected to heal in private? it's actually really lonely and isolating never being able to talk about what's going on inside u because u risk people being cruel if you're too open about it, and it's a very vulnerable thing to be open about, so u get beaten down during moments of vulnerability which kind of reinforces the whole disorder to begin with.

wagh. i left two lil pieces of watermelony on a plate in my room and when i picked up the plate and took it to the kitchen, i noticed the waterymelon was COVERED in ants(??). disgustang. but perhaps a life hack......... if u leave waterymelon sitting out, all the buggies will come and chomp and you can toss them all out at once.

italy is said in the manga to be "one of the eu's top students" but what does that even mean exactly? he's not exactly a student... not entirely sure what is being communicated here. is it something lost in translation or...

my unpopular opinion (maybe??) is that it does Not feel right for veneziano to be sarcastic. something about it feels so uncanny. like someone stole his skin and is pretending to be him. he just seems like way too forward of a person to be like that. i could see exceptions for this but as a whole it just Feels Wrong. he's always so blunt, u know?? i think he'd more likely be passive aggressive than sarcastic.

I have another Veneziano headcanon for the peoples that has lived in my brain for a while <3

So, I think when Veneziano wants to share his opinion on something but doesn't want to deal with an argument (like with Romano, or with political stuff), he'll say his piece then immediately reject any discussion. He'll stone wall.

Someone tries to say something back, and he just repeats himself while refusing to elaborate much, or pretends he didn't hear them, or completely changes the subject to something lighter. He acts cheery and unbothered, but he'll get irritated if they keep pushing the subject and find an excuse as to why he suddenly has to leave. (He doesn't want to argue nor be angry, and ignoring his efforts to not argue or be angry makes him angry, so then he just tries to run away.)

Reacting with anger would make him even more stubborn & unwilling to engage, but a calm response would make him more willing to talk, and a hurt response would make him feel guilty enough to drop it.

The whole thing is just that he doesn't want to be argued with and tries to shut it down before it can happen. So he'd really just do this with argumentative people, not every time there's a disagreement.

My initial idea for this HC is the following strip from the manga (translation from hetascanlations):
