coffee was something that was seemingly always needed for duri, truth be told. sleep was something that didn’t come for him a lot, only ever getting a few hours or sometimes none at all. but, it was always something that he had simply dealt with to get through his days. but, one thing was for sure, was the fact that duri always really enjoyed going to cafés, mainly to get his all time favorite coffee that he was always getting - a mocha. normally, he was always getting a mocha, though sometimes he’d get the straight black coffee. but, he liked getting the mocha and could never get sick of it, as he just simply really loves coffee.

he was glad to not be alone today, meeting with his good friend, kami, to have one of their check-ups that they tend to do and duri always enjoyed. he takes a sip of the warm mocha; perhaps pushing for autumn to come a bit sooner, rather than later - though with the slight rain outside, it was nice having the warmer coffee. after putting the mug down, he speaks, “how have you been feeling now that your album promotions are done?” he asked, a bit curious to her thoughts. “are you ready to work on the next thing already?”

performance day, off camera

the long list of performers mean that rehearsals seem to last forever as well. ultraviolet’s sort of stuck in the middle of the order too because of their mid-ranking last time around. what all of this means is that jaein feels like she’s stuck and doesn’t know what to do to have the time go by quicker. she takes a look at the time schedule taped onto her waiting room wall before checking the time on her phone. there’s still a bit before she’ll be needed, and so she sneaks out in order to catch a breath. 

if it were any other day, she’d think that her own stage outfit was too flashy to walk around the walls but almost everybody is in some extravagant costume. she blends in just right. jaein doesn’t mean to overhear anybody’s conversation, but she’s just about to turn down the hall when she hears someone else. she can’t catch everything, but she can definitely tell that whomever is on the phone is pretty dissatisfied with whatever performance they had to put on. 

for a moment, she contemplates whether she should turn right back around, but she spends too much time thinking because before she knows it, she’s face to face with the candy member. “oh. i’m sorry. i didn’t mean to overhear that conversation.”

           he was a bit excited to be performing that day, to say the least. he was always a huge fan of performing and doing it on your own always gave a different sort of rush. he was a bit more excited because bc entertainment wanted him to perform his portal single, 30sexy. it was going to be rather interesting to transitation from beautiful goodbye to 30sexy, something that was going to most likely be a bit of a surprise. 

he was moving through the backstage areas, as he was perparing to go on stage. however, it wasn’t time for him to go up quite yet, even though he was going to be third up to perform. nonetheless, he stood there, awaiting for the time for him to go up, watching the stage from where he was standing. he could feel a persence near him, before looking upon who it was. a smile placed against his lips, “ah, kami! hello, sunbae!” he said, giving her a bow. they’re friends, but duri always had the habit of contining to use formalities. “it’s been a while, how have you been?”

Sanghyun had never had such dreadful headache before. The last time he caught a flu, the world was spinning whenever he opened his eyes and his head was flying. But this one was different. He woke up to a heavy head as if there were extra tons of weight wrapped around his skull while being pounded by hammer in many places. The light irritated his eyes and the bedsheet was cold. It took him a while to process why he was chilled until Sanghyun realized he wore nothing under the blanket. Furthermore, there was a body next to him. Her silky hair was a long thread against the pillow and her body moved ups and downs breathing in her own sleeping pace.

He grumbled and pushed himself to sit up. His hair was spiking up like a messy bird nest. Dragging himself to the end of the bed, Sanghyun touched pieces of clothes with his toes when he put his feet down. He recognized the sweater and jeans he owned and smaller cuts of clothes in size which belonged to her. The image he spent the night with her flashed onto his eyes: it was an unending gulps of red wine and a pinch of loneliness. Once they perceived the warmth, Sanghyun embraced her and they shared their needs in his bed. He was vulnerable and she let him in and had them devour a mutual lust throughout the night. It was nice to have such exchange, he had to admit. 

The clock on the table indicated it was still early for him to get up, but Sanghyun didn't feel sleepy any longer. First he tiptoed to the trashcan under the bedside table, seeking for an evidence that he was not being a fool last night. At the bottom of the container, he found the used rubber tightly knotted. Sanghyun sighed, feeling relief. At least he was not as stupid he thought he would be.

Tidying up the clothes on the floor, separating what clothes belonged to who, Sanghyun threw them into the washing machine. He picked a pair of sweater and track pants from the closet, folding another pair on the bed and putting them carefully, an option for her to wear when she woke up. Sanghyun needed to get rid of the headache and nausea first and a breakfast made with simple ingredients to comfort his stomach would be the best to have in that morning.

lux wasn’t typically someone who cared too much about the clothes she wore. she had preferences, of course, but they were just that. preferences. this was admittedly a little outside her comfort zone, though. when she had to wear color, it was generally taken care of by a stylist. she didn’t always love the end result, but at least the pinks always matched.

she hoped she looked as delusionally self-confident as everyone else present did. it was nice to see her senior, nice enough that she greeted her with a rare smile. “you look so pretty, unnie.” the last word still managed to feel heavy on her tongue, as if she didn’t quite pronounce it right, though she knew she did. “can I offer you a drink?” she offered, holding out a glass of rosé she certainly hadn’t intended to have when she was done with the other she held.

it had been a while since duri and kami hung out together. both had seemingly been rather busy with their own schedules, so actually finding a time to hang out was actually hard. however, duri always did his best to make it work because friends meant a lot to him. most of the time, he would do less practice to make it fit into his schedule. he probably got enough practice as it was, considering the fact that he was always practice. most things he knew like they were on the back of his hand at this point, but he still liked to be sure. nonetheless, today had finally become a free day for duri, so he was finally able to hang out with his good friend kami after a later long time. 

he’s completely covered up, just so he wouldn’t be able to be noticed while hanging out with a friend. duri didn’t really have saesangs to worry about all the much, considering the fact that bc entertainment had really managed to take care of his problem, since bc really didn’t need the eyes on him - they became lucky with duri in that regard, it had seemed. nonetheless, he made it to their meeting point without much problem, placing his airpods away. once spotted, he waved to greet, his smile beaming underneath his mask. “hi!” he greeted. “ah, it’s really good to hang out again, it’s been a long while, hasn’t it?” he said. “have we decided on what we’re doing today?”

“perhaps if i could be like bang sunyoung sunbaenim and still have activities of my own once in a while, i would eventually. i don’t think i would until wish was disbanded, though. if there was a stipulation that we couldn’t work together anymore, i’d consider it. i don’t think i’m ready for the amount of responsibility, but in the future, i think i’d make a good ceo.”

eunah knows what to expect now from the interviews. that brings her some amount of comfort, but not much, considering that that’s not what’s making her nervous for this round of questions. no one ever feels great with a low ranking, she supposes.

you’ve had some time since you found out your ranking in the last round. how do you feel about your ranking and what pressure do you feel it puts on you this round?

“it’s a shame to come so close to last place,” eunah chooses her words carefully, fidgety hands working overtime in her lap. she especially doesn’t want to say anything about the way she’s a place higher than an origin member. she doesn’t think joohwan would care, but she has a feeling that there are some fans that are going to be angry. “i was really proud of my song from last round. i’m nervous that maybe my best isn’t going to be enough to get me through the competition.”

what are the first thoughts that come to mind when you think of the color you drew from the box?

“to me, gold is a winner’s colour. it definitely isn’t a colour i would ever associate with myself. the closest to gold i am is ... a rich autumnal mustard shade of yellow.”

do you already have an idea in mind for what you’ll do for your song this round?

“no,” admits eunah, cringing as the word falls from her lips. there’s no point in lying though. “i think this round is going to be a serious challenge for me. that’s scary, but i’m also looking forward to it in a way. it’ll be a good opportunity to get out of my comfort zone.”

after seeing everyone compete in the first round and knowing the task for this round, has your view on your biggest competition changed? who do you expect to do the best this round?

“everyone did really well last round, even if somebody did have to come last. since sun is the one directly above me in the rankings, i suppose, numbers wise, that makes him my biggest competition at the moment. otherwise, i don’t really know. as for who’ll do the best this round ... i think that kami and sun both have good chances of coming out on top. i think kami will be able to take the live audience vote again, and i think that sun really suits the colour purple.”

“before we start, are there any questions that are off-limits?”​ ash makes sure to ask before they’ve even sat down on the seats arranged for them to sit in on the set for the interview. it’s what he’d want someone to ask him before being interviewed, so it only feels right to extend the favor to kami.

“i don’t have anything crazy planned anyway, just the normal stuff on your music and your group, what you want to do that you haven’t already done, that kind of thing.” ash scans the cheat sheet of questions he’s holding in his hand. he’s not sure if he’s allowed to show her the questions beforehand. he hadn’t asked, but he thinks she should be fine anyway. this is hardly going to be an attempt at manipulative journalism on his part. calling it journalism at all would be ingenuine when he’s pretty sure this is mostly for kami’s fans.

there’s a bonfire that mixes colors of orange and yellow, and emits a flame that warms the entire vicinity of the empty retreat site. there’s also faces of young blood in all of their youthful innocence, enjoying their time away from their crazed schedules - taejin remembers when decipher once had a repertoire that consisted of incessant overlapping hours of broadcasting stations and music shows, nonstop tours and more. luckily, those days were all passed and swapped for acting endeavors with the often comeback lodged here and there.

he sees another figure, one that’s also remained a veteran despite the years of turmoil of turbulent levels of fame and relevancy. yet, he hasn’t taken it upon himself to familiarize any further than the superficial waves and bowed greetings - perhaps, tonight would force an initiative of some sorts or a hand in mutual respect. “kami, right?” he voices out to her with an arched brow before he’s forced to question how people mingle in suffocating small talk. “i liked your solo music.” there’s songs he’s come to learn, respecting that the figure has chosen a path of independent music unlike the acting course he’s taken a liking to - but to each their own, at least they managed to make it out alive within the ten years or so.
