Rhaenicent is a ship that has been discussed by actors, show runners, it’s visible in the script, they’re together on every art. The story revolves around them in the way you can’t separate them. They think about one another, even if they are aparat they’re connected. Lots of potential
Shuggy is ship between one character who is as neutral to the other as it gets. Its history was a gag for 90% of the story and it got small content from again only the obsessive guy. No one cares for them that much, they are not discussed even as a friends anywhere, they’re one of the least popular ship for shanks. Potential? Crocbug and mishanks has more and they’re not even that in the text
Don’t compare actual valid wlw ship to fans being delusional about brothers
Have you tried minding your own business instead of being rude on the internet to someone who's just comparing ship dynamics? 💀 I'm not even going to discuss this because your tone is madly disrespectful, but even if it wasn't, sending this to someone who clearly enjoys both ships just because you don't like one of them is straight-up mean.

SDCC? The Supercorp stuff? Thoughts, because honestly I have no idea what to think. I was really hurt by what happened. Just wondering what you think about all of it since I know you're a really big Katie fan and Supercorp contributor.
I really don’t like commenting on the discourse anymore, especially regarding race, sexuality and/or gender, because honestly, my opinions are just that, my opinions. I don’t want, nor think I should, tell people how to think or feel about it because that’s a personal thing. And I don’t want any of my posts to come across like I’m trying to tell people how they should feel. Because I’m not. Whatever you personally feel about it, is just that. It’s how you feel and you shouldn’t let other people tell you how to feel. Even those people who thought it was okay, that was their gut reaction. Maybe those people have changed their tune after the backlash and understanding what it did to the LGBT+ community that has supported the show.
That being said, if you really want my views, keep reading. If you don’t care, then you don’t have to see it. Just know what how you’re feeling. It’s okay. Feeling angry, hurt, distressed, confused or anything like that is okay. Even if you’re doing completely fine with it. You can’t help that gut reaction. It’s how you actually respond that matters.
This is also the only post I’m going to write about it. I try to keep my blog a mostly drama free space beyond the snide comment or post.
I understand why people are hurt and even angry over it. I think that’s a completely valid and reasonable reaction. The interview/song thing that sparked it was, at best, grossly disrespectful from a cast that says the love all their fans. Regardless of how they (and anyone else) says what they meant, the fact of the matter is that these are all grown adults who have been in show business for at least a couple of years if not longer. They should know that they speak from a position of power and/or influence and that their words have consequences. Saying that we shouldn’t hold them to a higher standard is bullshit. They should be because they are influencers. They know that. At least, they should. If they apologize genuinely and don’t do it again, I can forgive anything, but saying that “They made a mistake!!! Live and let live!! Just move on!!” isn’t something I agree with in this circumstance. It’s like saying “Oh Donald Trump has just made a few mistakes because he’s new, give him a chance!” He’s the president, his words and actions have consequences. And he doesn’t get the opportunity to mess up and live and let live.
I was on board with the idea that is was done from a place of ignorance from Jeremy’s point of view until I thought about it a little more and that “apology” came out. Consider that he says he has supported the LGBT+ community and even tried to get his cousin out of that conversion place(?). Which suggests to me that out of all people, Jeremy should understand what that kind of stuff does to us, how much we struggle. So I don’t totally buy the ignorance argument fully just on that. Because if he has such a “track record” with the LGBT+ community, he should know that his words have consequences. And then that apology seemed like he was just trying to say “Sorry you took a joke that wrong way.” Until he revised it, but the fact that the original one was as bad as it was and he even had to write a second one is telling. I’m behind people making mistakes. That is fine. We all do, even actors. And if he makes a sincere effort to make it up to the community and not do that again, then okay. But what I’m not behind is him making excuses. Or pretending that somehow we’re at fault for taking something “the wrong way.”
In regards to Katie since you mentioned her by name, I don’t think she is completely faultless in the situation (she still did laugh and to me it looked rather genuine), but I think she made the best of it that she could. She was the only cast member in the interview to (seemingly) realize that Jeremy had made a mistake and tried to fix it. And to the people who say that she doesn’t really support us because she keeps saying “whatever you get out of it, more power to you,” and saying that’s just the diplomatic answer, what do you expect from her? She’s in a whole new group of co-workers and friends and if she’s as close with Melissa as we all think (especially when she’s also working with her boyfriend) then wouldn’t her saying “Oh yeah! Let me kiss Melissa on camera!” be just a bit awkward? Just because she didn’t see Supercorp originally doesn’t mean she doesn’t like it or it's not valid. I didn’t personally see it until around episode 5, does that make me not supportive? It means she was there in the trenches and didn’t read into it that way. That is fine. We don’t know anything of her sexuality beyond she does fancy men. And doesn’t mind women, at least for her job (since we know little about her personal life, I’m not going to speculate). So I don’t particularly expect her to see it, especially when she’s trying to be professional with her acting with Melissa. But remember that Katie went back, rewatched it and said “yeah, this makes sense. I see it now.” And she was completely supportive of us liking the ship. Just because she doesn’t necessarily ship it herself or takes the “diplomatic” way out doesn’t mean she doesn’t like it. And frankly, after what happened to her brother, she would be completely within her rights to hate the fandom and not want to give us anything. And yet she still supports us and our right to ship what we want without being mocked for it. So I don’t buy that argument.
I’d like to think that while Katie may have joined in on that awkward and disrespectful song, that it seems like she took the rest of SDCC trying to make it up to us. She might not have realized the intensity of the backlash and was just being herself, but again, I’m willing to forgive mistakes as long as someone makes a real effort to right them. And she has. So I don’t want to say she’s faultless, because personally I don’t think she is, but I think she has earned the benefit of the doubt based on her history (fem)slash and non-canon shipping and her support of the Supercorp fandom despite how badly some of us have treated her and her family. Whereas Jeremy has not garnered such a relationship with the wlw community that watches, nor has he (from my knowledge, I do not follow him nor have I ever), made an attempt to right the wrongs yet. Suspending full judgment until I see otherwise.
However, on the other hand, besides the mocking tone and whatnot, he is right to a degree. Supercorp, to our knowledge, won’t be canon. We know that. I’d like to believe that if Jeremy had been asked about Supercorp and instead had just responded, “I think they’re just good friends.” in a respectful way, instead of trying to mockingly rub it in that it won’t happen and that we’re somehow silly for shipping it, that would be okay. I could accept that. Because by all accounts, he’s right. It’s not the content, it the connotation of what he said. So yes, I can believe that Jeremy might not have actually meant it how it came off, but again, he is an influencer. He should know, again, that words and how you say them have consequences. I don’t expect him to be perfect, I do expect him to think before he speaks and if he makes a mistake, make a genuine effort to right the wrong and not make it again. Which has yet to be seen. I’ll give it some time, but I’m not that hopeful.
With all of that said, I was never a huge fan of Supergirl itself. I don’t like the superhero genre as a general rule. Supergirl and Wonder Woman have been the recent exceptions because there was a good story beyond the superhero stuff which I don’t care for. I may watch Lena scenes on YouTube or watch Lena centric episodes as I always did for S2, but that’s about the extent of it. I will continue with my planned fanfiction and as long as there’s demand, continue making videos, but with seemingly a lot of the fandom hopping off the train, I don’t know what my future holds in the fandom in terms of content. At this point, the fandom is running high on temper, hurt, anger or whatever other feelings and once we get some time away from the immediate aftermath, I think it will be a better time to take stock of how to look at this. I’m generally a detached person in general, so I try to see things from a little further away and this is how I see it.
Again, if you read my opinions, remember these are my opinions and you chose to read them. I’m not trying to tell you how to feel. Or even try to sway your opinion. I just wanted to answer a confused anon and tell them what I thought. You can take it with a grain of salt if you want. Or if anyone wants an additional perspective. I know I always like getting different people’s opinions so I can better understand all sides. Just know that if you’re a Supercorp shipper, or even not a shipper but just a wlw in general, you’re valid. What you feel is valid. You deserve representation and influencers that respect you. Don’t let the antis tell you other wise. If they had a lack of straight, white couples, they’d complain too. So just keep fighting for what you believe in.
