thought about blue sky again. over 10 years since i read it and it's still so good. it's influenced my writing a lot but not enough because i'm not nearly at that level. the way it made me feel SO MUCH in just a few chapters. one of if not my number one favorite redemption arc where someone known for their selfishness and cowardice realizes the value in doing the right thing even at the cost of his life, where he does so out of love for someone even though he doesn't expect her forgiveness. also a REALLY interesting way of putting a robot in a "human" body (and then a real human body later). i read a lot of other portal fics back in the day and this is one of like.....2 or 3 that i go back to. maybe one day i'll be able to make something that causes as many emotions and sticks to me as much as blue sky did

"You saw my pain, washed out in the rain
Broken glass, saw the blood run from my veins
But you saw no fault no cracks in my heart
And you knelt beside my hope torn apart
But the ghosts that we knew will flicker from view
And we'll live a long life
So give me hope in the darkness that I will see the light
'Cause oh they gave me such a fright
But I will hold as long as you like
Just promise me we'll be alright"
A good Tav/Astarion song for you all :)

Hey I lost that post but I listened to your Mumford and Sons song. It didn't quite click for me (don't be offended; it usually takes anywhere between two business days and three business years) but I am of course immediately supportive of Mumford and Sons and Vox Machina in any vague proximity
ahaha this is all part of my evil plot to make you listen to more Mumford & Sons
yeah, I just really like the idea of a Percy who is a) never quite sure he'll get the revenge he was looking for, b) even less confident that he'll survive it and c) perfectly willing to become the monster if it gives him vengeance
and then oops, shit, he's got friends
you saw no fault, no cracks in my heart and give me hope in the darkness that I will see the light and lead me back, turn south from that place and you know my call and will share my all and the ghosts that we knew will flicker from view and we'll live a long life

Okay get ready for them:
1, 2, 20, 29, 44, 58, 64, 78 (as many or as few that you want!)
thank u my love!!!!! for this ask game!
do you know how you want the story to end when you start, or are you just stumbling through the figurative wilderness hoping to find a road?
i usually don't know how i want a story to end until i'm at the very least halfway through! i am very much a wilderness stumbler at heart. i do, however, tend to have a general vague sense of the emotional arc i want certain characters to take -- i already have that planned out for the sun is only a God if you learn to starve, and i am. very excited. for that.
2. talk about a notable time a narrative or character has looked you dead in the eyes and said “fuck your plan, here’s what we’re actually doing.”
also for the sun is only a God if you learn to starve, i originally planned it to be a fairly long one-shot that was essentially 5+1 of times jamie got cuddles from his friends. ahahaha. ahahahahahahahaha. that has........... not continued to be the case. because now there is Plot. and Big Emotions. and also approximately 60k words that have yet to be written or published.
20. what is your favorite trope to write?
FOUND FAMILY!!!!!!!!!! BANGS POTS AND PANS FOUND FAMILYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!
29. give us a spoiler for one of your stories.
under the cut because this is getting long, apologies
in the ending where you finally find your way home, there is a visit to the hospital.
44. any writing advice you want to share?
get weird with it!!!!!!! and by weird i mean don't be afraid to indulge YOUR wants and desires for a story. you are your most important and valuable reader, and the second you start to forget that, writing will become a chore instead of an adventure.
58. what is the last thing that a fic made you google when you were writing it?
"shark fin haircut". thanks, s1 jamie and your funky lil hair.
64. what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve read?
oooooooh. there are shrimply so many!!! but there was one i read a while ago that was hella inspirational for the mom city fix-it called "ghosts that we knew will flicker from view (and we'll live a long life)" and that title absolutely BODIES me every time. man. everyone should go read it.
78. how do you choose where to end a chapter?
purely vibes alone. or else on a cliffhanger that i know will make people Angry sjkdjf

Imogen saying to Laudna "Let's live here after everything!" and THESE lyrics in "Ghosts That We Knew", which is canonically about Laudna-
But I will hold on as long as you like
Just promise me that we'll be alright
consistently repeated
and then, as the song winds down-
But the ghosts that we knew made us blackened or blue
But we'll live a long life
And the ghosts that we knew will flicker from view
And we'll live a long life
like oh its about the faith that things will be okay and that someday both of you will get hard-earned peace, and get that peace together, its about strife and still finding it in yourself to plan ahead and picture a good future with people you love and- right okay yes right

What is you best advice for choosing a title for a fic?
Oooh, that's a hard one.
So... when I name fics, they are almost always song lyrics, because I'm basic and dramatic like that. I'll go through some of my titles and how I picked them and hopefully that helps.
"You're a Casualty I Can't Forget (Learn to Trust Me)" - So. This one is from a Bad Suns songs called "Learn to Trust". It came up on a shuffle playlist of recommended music for me one day (I have seen Bad Suns in concert so Spotify was like "You want this, right?") and the lyrics were so fitting for Jim.
"A heart glows in the night; in the day hearts turn to dust.
Say it if you mean it so this heart learns to trust.
Can I change my ways, and can I confront the past?
Eternal questions, always asking, feeling detached.
I'm a ticking time bomb inside a selfless man.
You're a casualty I can't forget, so come on and let me know."
I pieced them together, and there we go.
"These Ghosts Are Not My Own" - This one is a combination of Mumford and Sons lyrics and my own invention. I was really fixated on the idea of the emotional interference from Spock Prime's mind meld with Jim and how Jim would be feeling and remembering things that weren't his emotions or memories, aka: struggling with ghosts that weren't his own.
"You saw my pain washed out in the rain
And broken glass saw blood run from my veins.
But you saw no fault, no cracks i my heart
And you knelt beside my hope torn apart.
But the ghosts that we knew will flicker from view
and we'll live a long life."
"Touch Me, Tell Me All is Forgiven" - Spring Awakening.
"Touch me all silent; tell me please all is forgiven."
"All Must Be Well" - Mumford again.
"When I was told by Jesus all was well: so all must be well"
"I Have No Strength From Which To Speak" - Mumford again (are we sensing a theme? Mumford and Sons saved my life once, we'll get into that at another time if need be but:)
"I have no strength with which to speak when you sit me down and see I'm weak."
Some of the titles I've chosen are a lot more straightforward than that, though. "Resurrection: The Year After" is so-called because it literally deals with Jim's resurrection from the dead and the year following the events of ST: Into Darkness. "Going Beyond" is so-called because it's after the events of ST: Beyond. "Alternative Action" is so-called because it's an alternative version of the story.
So basically... I figure out the overarching theme or concept of the story, and then I either come up with a title pretty immediately, or I find a song that suits.
