pro: he’s your closest friend

he’s lived most of his life with a heart frosted over, thick ice to withstand the burning rage he emits. after years of being stomped into the cracks of the sidewalk, he’s learned to be guarded, to build impenetrable walls so high even he can’t see through them. life teaches you to trust no one when your first betrayal is family.

but anyone who manages to infiltrate those walls, search for the openings and sneak in through the windows is rewarded. his walls stay up, but he does give you a key, sometimes without even realizing it.

when you do find your way in, it’s something sacred. its 2ams, laughing with your feet in his lap, and somehow ending up on the floor after a few swigs of cheep rosé. it’s his showing up outside your window heaving and wounded, knowing your faulty bandages and less-than-knowledgable stitches are better than any professional medical car. its leaving marks on your collarbone when things get heated, that messy grey area of knowing the attraction but knowing he’s the last person in the world that should be in a relationship. its wanting, and its about trust.

“i would have called the cops if i did.” you smile. he does too, and its rare that he smiles genuinely these days.

he’s shit with his words, and he knows it. he stopped attending school in his most formative years, and learned most of his tongue from the streets. and the outside world can be less than forgiving to a boy like him. after all, the house he left wasn’t exactly nurturing.

sometimes, he’ll go weeks, months even, radio silent. he’ll let rust grow between telephones, feel the ringing of whatever burner phone he’s using ho off but not pick up. sometimes, he’d wish he could disappear altogether, and alleviate you of the pain of caring for someone like him. sometimes. other times, which is most of the time, he’s a selfish dick, and hopes that you’ll always be the lips he calls home.

he doesn’t know how to say sorry. its mostly because the sorries he’s thought about giving are sorries he shouldn’t have to even verbalize: “i’m sorry i wasn’t who you wanted.” “i’m sorry i couldn’t be the son who would surpass you.” “i’m sorry i didn’t burn myself bright enough so you could watch it happen.”

he has a horrible, stinging feeling in his gut when he knows he’s upset you, and he hates the way it makes him feel. so he swallows his pride and a shot of whiskey, before going up to you.

“doll?”

“i’m not talking to you.”

he has the audacity to roll his eyes.

“i’m sorry for what i said.” he mumbles like a little boy, and its almost funny.

“and i’m sorry for being a dick.” he says what comes to mind, what he knows is true about himself. that he can act like a bitch most of the time, and even though he thinks the world deserves it, he excluded you from that belief.

he rambles on, just hoping you’ll turn around and face him. he wants to watch the world burn, he wants to make people suffer. but he also doesn’t want to lose the one person who tries to understand him, even if it means biting his tongue a little.

pro: he’s a man of action

he’s shit with words, but he will make up for it with his what he does. he spews that gifts are unnecessary, that he’d see his father buy expensive jewelry for his mother when the cameras were watching, and that its all just a dumb performative act. the next second he’s giving you a new sweater and some earrings because he “doesn’t wanna deal with it if you get sick” and “thinks it’d look good on you.” he says he so doesn’t care, but hides a smile when he sees you wearing it.

he’s also a protector. he’s lost too much in his life to risk the one person he actually gives a shit about. god forbid you show up with any traces of a bruise or an upset frown, because he’s no stranger to the arsons match. but he’s more than willing to stay with you, because he knows better than anyone the look of loneliness. he doesn’t understand why you want him- this wasted potential of a man- around, but he knows that at the very least, no one is touching a hair on your head when he’s with you.

he may not be able to warm you with words, but he can make your cheeks look like wine when he cares, which is always. he just won’t always admit it.

“do you wanna stay the night?” you ask, sitting up from your head on his lap. you’re about 3 seasons in on some dumb, reality tv show that he says he doesn’t care about, but gets whiney when you watch an episode without him.

“at least buy me dinner first, doll.” he smirks. its his way of saying yes.

you roll your eyes: “you ate the soba i made you, jackass.”

con: he’s self destructive

for someone who seems to sure of their plans for revenge, you wonder how the hell so easily loses sight of himself. perhaps he can’t see through the smoke, or is blinded by the glowing blue he emits. perhaps its a combination of smoke, fire, and revenge, all in a tumultuous cycle that will one day end in his demise. everyone who knows him is simply counting down the days until he wears his bones down to nothing but ash. he doesn’t want to be saved, and he’s made it clear. he knows that there are hands that reach through the fire, reaching for him.

and he knows one day, you’ll lose him for good. he loathes the pit in his stomach when he thinks about you, alone, with nothing but the smell of smoke on your clothes. would you cry? would you miss the smoke despite having clean air? he’s not worthy of that, or even you.

sometimes, he’ll try to rip the bandaid off prematurely. the reason he’s a dick with a shitty vocabulary is because he doesn’t want you to miss him. in fact, he hopes you’ll hate him, that you’ll scream good riddance when the curtains close on touya todoroki.

but by some cosmic miracle, you don’t. and for however long he has with you, he wants to cherish that.

pro: he can’t give you forever, but he can make you feel like it is

touya knows that one day, you’ll wake with his memory over you. its a shitty excuse for a legacy, a ghost that can’t be exorcised or appeased. and you know that no matter what, you’ll always feel a little bit of him, a little bit of the heat, even after he’s gone.

he can’t give you forever, but he’ll kiss you like it is. he can’t give you a pretty wedding or a diamond ring, but he’ll steal gemstones and earrings for you. he can’t give you a family, or a nice house, or any of the beautiful things you deserve, but he’ll make sure to leave his burned handprints all over your heart. touya can die knowing that you will move on, but that the love you two shared burned brighter than ever.

anways heres an essay about their storylines and how they mirror each other

(everything im about to say is very mentally unconstructed and thought up in a 3am haze. and also i feel like all of my thoughts abt sasi are stagnant and surface level so please argue with me if you think im wrong..) (also these ideas have likely already been written a bajillion times. but let me do it anyway LOL)

^ with that being said i feel the need to set a definition on what makes sasi sides “dark sides” and “light sides” because like,, to me the only difference between them is the means in which they get the rest of the sides to listen to them

obviously.. none of the sides are actively trying to be evil. or trying to hurt cthomas on purpose. OBVIOUSLYY. because why the hell would they want to do that? they are all literally That Guy, and all of the sides have their own personal goals for thomas that they want him to follow. this is like. the plot. and very known information..

but remus, janus, and formerly virgil are the “dark sides”… like what? because janus manipulated and pretended to be the other sides because thats the only way he could get the others to really listen to and consider his ideas of self preservation and prioritization? and virgil would actively terrorize the others and thomas to get him to be anxious about the stuff virgil believed it was IMPORTANT for him to be anxious about? and remus. listen remus is a whole lot of “being awful for the sake of being awful” but evidently in DWIT he has a strong attraction to the idea of infamy and legacy. so even he is sort of looking out for thomas in. uhm. his own way i guess…

so obviously we know virgils storyline was;

purposely scare the others to get them to see situations from his point of view -> always get insulted and pushed away for being a “pessimist” (its his entire purpose) -> “duck out” and leave thomas and the others to discover the negative affects of zero anxiety -> only after that, finally become recognized as an important aspect of thomas

tw: mention of suicide [not in detail] (and on that note, i think its a little morbid that the light sides only fully realized virgils worth and objective after he attempted the sanders sides equivalent of suicide (which you can NOT convince me isnt what the concept of “ducking out” is. they are all metaphysical personifications of instinctual human traits. what the hell are they gonna do? become real and walk out of the house? bffr))

and whats logans journey?

be considered the [reasonable problem solver] of the group -> be placed in a MULTITUDE of situations where the range of solutions are emotions v. emotions v. emotions and suddenly be considered “cold hearted” and “uncaring” for your objective view points -> get excluded from discussions and ignored when you try and help in the only way you know how -> ???

i (and most of the fandom) fully believe logan (ESPECIALLY after WTIT) is going to start resorting to some pretty drastic measures to be acknowledged by the rest of the sides + thomas. some actions that are likely incited by a “dark side” (nudge nudge the orange guy nudge nudge). and if the harshness of the measures he takes in order to be listened to is all it takes for the rest of the dark sides to be considered “dark sides” in the first place. then uhh well… well!!!

but anyways yeah. yeah. logan and virgil kinda have mirrored character development and that is so fucking interesting. virgils path from dark to light and logans path from light to dark… sighhh.. good stuff

Both Damian Wayne and Terry McGinnis have very similar problems and should have very different endings.

DC saw how successful Batman Bruce Wayne is and can’t grow beyond him. Everything is Batman centric and its a bit too much. Not saying in any way shape or form that they should just throw him in the trash but they need to let the man rest at this point.

Damian is biologically the heir to both the LOA and Batman’s legacy, and he was always only had that perspective, he never really had the chance to choose for himself what he wants.

I love how he is Bruce’s bio kid and thats why he shouldn’t be Batman. He needs to choose for himself, be his own person. I really really hope they continue with the approach of him helping people by helping out in hospitals and possibly becoming a doctor instead of being a Bat, because that way hes being authentic to himself yet still following Batmans legacy (of helping Gotham and its people) but being what Bruce couldn’t: a doctor, a healer, someone that saw the path of violence and chose to leave.

The only real reason for him to become Batman? Being Bruces bio kid. That man’s whole life he was taken kids that apparently have no place in the world and even tho through the most fucked up way possible, given them a place, a reason to be good, and thats why Damian shouldnt be Batman. Because that way hes not being throw into a position he only wants because they told him thats what he should want, but finding his own place through Bruce.

Terry had not only a really interesting backstory, making parallels with the OG Batman (the loss of family, the need for justice, the love for Gotham) but also a great story: he was “just a guy” who wanted to do good but also prove to himself that he has changed and that he is good. He became Batman by himself, stealing the suit from the Batcave and choosing that thats what he wanted. And it should have stayed like that, because honestly, Batman is supposed to be just a guy that decided to take matters into his own hands bc someone should (it didn’t happen bc of his money dont even start!! absolute batman is a thing).

I feel like that by making Terry a somewhat Bruce clone in my opinion takes that away from him. Is he Batman because he has Bruce’s DNA or because he actually deserves it and made it his place? If he didn’t had Bruces DNA and still had gone through all of that, would he still be Batman? More then once Bruce told Terry to leave, and he stayed because thats what he needs, thats what Gotham needs. He should have no connection to Bruce, and because of that he should be Batman.

I love the possibility of Cassandra becoming Batman, but i really feel that Batman should start by being Batman. Before all the trauma being just a regular dude living a regular life, having deep connections with Gotham because thats where they grew up and everyone they love is in, and then after the trauma developing a strong moral compass and sense of justice.

In conclusion: make Damian a doctor or give him his own separate path in the vigilante world and make Terry just a guy again PLEASEEE really sorry this is really long and probably a bit redundant/confusing but it was a ramble i needed

For the most part, i think legacy is Okay. It's not the Best, but its nice to see so many people come together to finish off the show. I can respect all the work these guys did, especially tomska.

If you came for my option on the season and thats it you can leave, because the rest of this is me going crazy mode

My only real problems lie with only 2-3 episodes, and it drives me Crazy because they're By Far the most popular, so they've caused the most problems. This one question ended up becoming a giantic essay SORRY im just passionate about ebbworld

I'm keeping this section on Fun Dead short, mostly because it's not really the worst offender

The "Obliviously stupid to progress the plot" trope is so bad here. They've seen zombies before how do they not recognize them now. I get them being oblivious to super obvious things is the joke ,but its just not funny

For a Zombie centric episode, there's barely any Fighting. I feel like big fight scenes are what people like most with these. But no we get a 30 second montage, one that's not even animated

The End. Don't even get me started on The End. Legitimately i have never seen such a botched finale in my life. Fair warning this is about to get long and angry im sorry

Let me ask one question: how come in the Finale To Eddsworld Legacy, the season Dedicated to Edd Gould and his work, Edd Himself does not play a prominent role? I'm not even kidding, you could write Edd out completely and Nothing would change. Ive heard people say this was Tomska going out with a bang before leaving the show, but from what i know he also wanted eddsworld to be completely over at The End. If that's true he could have atleast let Edd shoot the harpoon or some shit, come on

This is such a disappointing finale overall. They don't do anything exciting. We just get to watch a little "do you remember this episode?" Montage, all the sudden everything gets crazy then oh! Episodes over goodbye forever.

An end fight might have been more exciting had it been set up properly. They gave us the bare minimum, which was having tords stupid little gang tag appear a few times then having two of his coworkers/soldiers appear a few times. That doesn't hint at a Tord being an evil meglomaniac who's got a giant fucking robot hidden under the house

FUTURE EDD CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AS WELL, AND HE WORKS GREAT BECAUSE HE SETS UP THE LORE IMMEDIATELY. Tords return gave us Nothing beyond "he is manipulating them!!" Instead we get the book dropped on us halfway through the LAST EPISODE OF THE SEASON without ever being given any sort of explanation. That's just it.

ALSO FUCK BRINGING TORD BACK AT ALL. the dude asked to be removed from the show and what did they do? Hinted at his return like 15 times then had him come back as this manipulative mastermind, whos got a bunch of science stuff and a russian accent. At the bare minimum you could have writtten him to atleast resemble something close to Tord. There's literally more evidence that points to him being a clone than there is him being the real Tord, and it WASN'T EVEN INTENTIONAL.

Took a character who had left with all his loose ends tied up, brought him back with completely new unexplained info, then ended the show with both the original and the new loose ends untied. I've read this was Tomska trying to write Tord out of the show for good, but he somehow managed to do the complete opposite by leaving him at a LITERAL cliffhanger. Now all the 12 year olds are @ ing eddsworld begging he comes back for a redemption episode.

I could scream forever about the end but ive already said too much SORRY. This is why im just rewritting it myself to make it good

One last thing: its somewhat heartbreaking to me how Legacy has totally overgrown the classic episodes. Of the top Ten most popular videos on the channel, Seven of them are legacy episodes, with Edds three episodes being at the very bottom of the list

I just don't like it. I dont like how legacy has become like the Face of what eddsworld is. Maybe it's just because Edds work has been one of the biggest inspirations in my life (if that wasn't obvious already) IDK it seems unfair

Tldr: i dont like what legacy has done to the series and the fandom, but it's okay for the most part. Fuck The End though
