hi so essentially mitsuri and shinobu are foils to one another. like. you have Shinobu, struggling to fill shoes she's not ready to fill, and you have Mitsuri, who's entirely able and ready to be a hashira and a warrior, and wants nothing more than to not be. the parallels between "if I were stronger, the bad things would never have happened" and "if I wasn't so strong, maybe I would be happier" the parallel between Shinobu losing the person she cared about the most and having nothing left to live for and Mitsuri living for a specific goal and never getting what she wanted, only getting as close as a promise. Mitsuri stopping the performance and becoming herself only when she stepped into the hashira role because she didn't need to pretend to be weak to be wanted, Shinobu putting on a persona to act like her sister because she IS weak, and she has to pretend to be strong to be wanted, but she knows she'll never be like the other Hashira so she gives up her life in a calculating, precise way while Mitsuri's sacrifice is sudden and spur of the moment but they're both equally as valuable and just as dead in the end
