you know i know you can't say anything about someone you don't know for certain. and it's not polite to speculate too much about someone's person from their writing. buuuuut i am just going to say i would genuinely be surprised if C/huck Ti.ngle was not raised evangelist

#BYG just had the MC go to his high school reunion #and not only is everyone there.... not swearing (like they're all REALLY noticeably saying 'darn' instead of anything stronger)#but someone who's supposed to be like #a Normal Bro decided to say that he doesn't like the main character writing horror movies #by saying 'I just can't celebrate death like that uwu'#and it's like. ok listen people will be saying shit but that is SOOO fucking similar #to the way evangelical christians talked about horror in stuff I read growing up #and not what an Average Bro would reach for #...................also the MC's response to it is this insufferable pseudoscientific babble that starts off with #'acksually horror wouldn't be successful as a celebration of death because humans are meant to procreate and create life'#'that's why sex *is crafted* to be about the best feeling there is!'#and it's like hrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmm interesting wording!#also read a horrifying short by him that starts off with - wait for it #disconnected 'scientific' babble #that despite being 'scientific' included ideas like #humans are the best and most unique and superior thing in the universe #and you should be grateful that G-um I mean SCIENCE #'created' you even if your life sucks #and the MC calling his babbling (which literally consists of 'hey evolution..... exists'#'so maybe............ a plane could be sentient. which means that CT's books that i like in-universe are TOTALLY good you guys-')#'a philosophy' and then has a um. interesting couple sentences #about how 'My friends can take it or leave it; and if they take it #I get the beautiful feeling of my knowledge (source?) being contagious and someone else believing this 'philosophy'#which is just the most wonderful feeling in the world.... bringing people to Learning (source????) <3'#and i was like ok no this is. literally how evangelists talk about witnessing for jesus you just inserted 'Science!' and/or uhhhh. yourself #instead of the christian filling #also side note it's only one short but jesus fuck. it was both philosophically disturbing #horribly written - like prose level it didn't feel like it was edited. or that ct knows what a lot of words mean #and deeply horrifically unsexy #anyway. sorry.
