Sparks Fly!
Pairing: Denki Kaminari x Reader
Fluff
Synopsis: Denki has feelings for his childhood friend, and the concept scares him for a moment.
Note: I fear that this is quite ooc...but it was sitting in my drafts, and since his birthday was coming up, I thought it would be nice to break up all the Bakugo fics I’ve been writing. Happy late birthday, Pikachu! (Also i’m sorry the title really has nothing to do with the fic I just like electric puns jdkdjjdk)-K.
Denki Kaminari has no clue how to navigate romance.
Was he quick with a joke? Sure. A bit of a flirt? Definitely.
But when it came to love— actual love, that made his heart stutter and his stomach erupt with butterflies— he was some hopeless case.
Denki likes to consider himself a romantic. He really does. But he can’t help but wonder if someone would actually like him. People just view him as a class clown, or at the most, a fling. Not someone who’d actually be right for a relationship. Hell, he doesn’t know if he’s right for a relationship. So realistically, he’s a bit of a cynic. Or just jaded.
You’re his childhood friend. You knew all that. You knew almost everything about him. You knew he cared more than he let on, you knew that he used jokes because he liked making people smile, and you knew that he wasn’t the most confident.
But for some unknown reason, you didn’t notice his crippling crush on you.
He tried to move past it. Talk to girls, even go on a couple dates, but all the while he only thought about you. Denki tells himself to smother his feelings silently, making sure that one day he’ll look back and laugh at a stupid childhood crush he had when he didn’t know any better.
But every time you smile at him, he’s feelings grow more intense by tenfold. When you grab his hand or lean over his shoulder, he can’t help but feel kind of nervous. UA had separated you two- he was in the hero course, you in support. While he told himself to take advantage of the fact that he couldn’t see you every day, Denki couldn’t help but drop by after class to chat while you worked on your latest project. Which was terrible for his heart, seeing you so passionate and engrossed in your what you were doing. It was so adorable. And he hated himself for thinking so.
“How was your day dude?” He flinched, lost in his thoughts, then jolted up with a grin.
“Ehhh, you know.”
You look up from your project, brushing a stray hair out of your face. Even covered in grease and scratches, he still found you attractive.
“Not really,” you teased, sticking out your tongue. “C’mon, the hero course is probably way more interesting than what I’m doing. How’s it feel, now that you’re finally living your dream?” You lean over the workbench that separates the two of you.
Denki toys with some spare parts. “Almost surreal. It’s like- everyone’s quirk is super amazing. I’ll have a lot to live up to.” You beam warmly, flicking down your goggles.
“I’m sure you’ll be fine. You’ve always been the best at making people smile.” You fiddle with some cables, somewhat preoccupied. Your machine starts whirring. “That’s important, for a hero. Plus!” You spring up, dusting your hands off on your pants. “You’ve got a flashy quirk and good looks! You’re sure to be popular!”
Denki flushes, offering up a wide smile. It hurt hearing you say things like that, when he knew you didn’t mean it- well, you didn’t mean it in the way he wanted you to.
“Yeah. Well, I’ve got to go.”
These feelings for you were nothing new. But it was only recently that he had been able to put a name to them. Which was only more torturous, as he kept internally smacking himself whenever the thought of kissing you passed through his head. It used to be so easy to talk to you. The intrepid duo that shared secrets, stayed up late laughing at nothing til your lungs were sore, came up with silly pranks- why was it so difficult now? All this resulted in the guy becoming rather mopey, sighing softly while gazing off into space, a faraway look in his eyes. His trips to your workshop had become less frequent, til they petered out completely for about a week. He thought it might have helped- but as the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Denki found himself staring at your contact number on his phone during the late hours of the night, the white screen illuminating his face. And it wasn’t as if his newfound contemplative nature went unnoticed by his friends.
“So Kaminari, you’re rather...quiet these days,” Mina jabs, slumping down onto the couch. The dorms were quiet, with most out and enjoying their Friday evening. Denki, along with his friends, had opted to mill about in the alliance building. Sero nods with agreement, regarding Mina. “Yeah. I can’t remember the last time you cracked a joke.”
Denki blanches, trying to smile for them. “What? It’s not like that, guys! I’ve just been thinking, lately.”
“Thinking? That’s dangerous.”
“Are you alright, Denki?” Kirishima looks up from his microwaved meal, his mouth full. “You really have been sort of strange.”
Denki laughs. Forcefully. “Guys, I’m fine! It’s nothing serious, I’m the same as ever!” He puffs out his chest, flashing a boyish grin. Though, the reception was lukewarm. The cast each other skeptical looks, determined to proceed with caution.
“You know you can talk to us, dude,” Sero pushes, sincerity in every word. “We’re your friends.”
“I’m fine, guys! Really!”
Bakugo snorts, alerting the others to his presence. He looks up from his phone.
“Would you morons lay off him? He’s probably just thinking of that kid from the support class.”
Mina gasps, her demeanor changing instantly. “Y/N? Your childhood friend?” She claps her hands, grabbing Denki and shaking him violently. “Perhaps some sort of romance?!”
Kirishima laughs. “How cliche!”
Denki feels heat rising to his cheeks, feverishly denying their suggestion. “N-No guys!! I don’t- I’m not-“
They all let out a collective “awwww!” And envelope him into a group hug.
“You’re really serious?!”
“You’re too cute!!”
“Come on now, you can tell us the truth!”
This was too much for him. He sinks into the couch, covering his face with both of his hands and releasing an exhausted groan.
“It’s just that... ugh, I don’t even know where to start!” He throws his arms up in frustration. The others huddle up near him, expressions of unshakable anticipation at his next words. He gulps.
“I don’t want to like them...but I do. A lot.” Denki smiles dreamily, picturing your glowing image. “A whole lot...I really don’t deserve them. Y/N is amazing... talented, and pretty, and passionate- and they’ve always been there for me. I only recently realized my feelings, but they make me kind of... scared.“
Bakugo gags. “Barf.” Kirishima elbows him, turning to Kaminari with a look of surprise and wonder.
“Holy cow, you’re in deep!” Denki snaps out of his stupor, his face going redder.
“I’ll say!” Mina has a sinister sort of look on her face. “Now that’s love.”
“You guys, it’s not like it’s super serious. You know, just a passing crush-“
“It’s not like you to get hung up on someone. All that talk about being scared- I mean, it has to mean something, right? And the way you talk about Y/N...I don’t know Denki, sounds pretty serious to me,” Sero mutters, masking his concern with a few nervous chuckles. Denki rises up from his seat, clenching his jaw and rubbing his neck. “I don’t know guys...I’ve just been really confused lately.” Tension fills the air as he sighs, eyes down. “I think I’m gonna go for a walk.”
“Are you sure...?”
“It’s rather late.”
Denki brushes his hand on the door handle, turning back to attempt another smile. There’s melancholy in it; a heart wrenching conflict. “I’ll be fine. I just need some air.”
These days, you miss him.
Denki had always been your best friend. The shoulder to cry on, your partner in crime. And yet, you hadn’t seen him for what felt like a month.
What happened?
You bite your lip, shivering in the night air. You had noticed Kaminari being a little too distant, like he had outgrown you. In your head, there was never a doubt that he wasn’t the greatest person in your life.
There was no trouble in reading him. Except now. What you would give for just a second in his head...
You look up at the moon, a softly glowing force in the midst of the pitch-black sky. You had been lingering on your way to the dorms, lost in thought. At least you had finished your project. But there was nobody to celebrate with. Well, ideally it would be Denki, but the guy was MIA. Not answering your calls, giving you short texts that ran along the lines of “sorry, I’m busy training.” It felt like you were being left behind. Maybe that’s for the better.
You clutch your shoulders, trying to generate some warmth. You had sworn to yourself years ago that you’d never tell Denki your true feelings, out of fear that you’d hold him back. Those efforts may have been in vain, considering how much time he flirted with people...but nevertheless. Who were you to complicate things? You laugh bitterly to yourself. This is what you wanted, right? For him to succeed without you as a burden...even if that is true, why do I feel so lonely?
You feel some tears prick at your eyes, then allow them to fall in a thick stream. Lucky for you, the campus was deserted this late. Nobody would see you in such a humiliating position.
“Y/N?”
Shit.
Rushing to wipe away your tears, you feel a familiar hand on your shoulder.
Denki turns you to face him, his face shrouded with concern.
“Were you crying?”
You rub at your eyes more, trying to push out a laugh.
“No! Just some allergies.”
Denki slowly wipes away a stray tear, his fingers lingering near your cheekbone. You feel your face going warm.
“You don’t have to lie to me, I know you.”
You offer him a tired sniffle, lightly punching his shoulder. “Ha.”
The two of you slump down on a nearby bench, enjoying the quiet for a moment. In a way, it was almost as if things had never changed.
“...So, do you want to talk about it?”
You flinch. “Not particularly.”
Denki shrugs, shedding his coat and wrapping it around your shoulders. “That’s fine.”
You breathe in his scent, starting to feel apathetically bold. Just come out and say it Y/N.
“Denki, why have you been ignoring me?”
You focus on the ground, never daring to meet his face. Your words are a broken-hearted whisper, and you begin hiccuping through tears again. “It sounds so stupid when I say it out loud, but... I miss you.”
Denki stumbles to hug you, pulling you close to his chest. You feel his heartbeat, as well as a small shudder of tears.
“Y/N... I’m sorry. I’m an idiot, aren’t I?”
You hug him back. “No. I am.”
Suddenly, he laughs, breathing into your hair. “I guess we’re both idiots, huh?”
You pull back, gripping his hand. He sighs, and you notice how tired he looks. “Y/N...I guess I’ve been avoiding you because I like you.” He flushes, a shade so bright it almost glows in the dark night. You blink, somewhat flustered as you watch him look away, just focusing on your hand holding his.
“Denki..”
“I don’t expect you to like me back or anything! We’re childhood friends, so it’s only natural-“
“Denki-“
“And I mean, you have your own life, too. You might not even want to date a hero or-“
“Denki!”
He freezes, finally meeting your gaze. You blush. “We really are idiots, huh?” You murmur, drawing closer to him. “I like you too. I have for... God... Since middle school?” He stutters, eyes wide. “Really?”
“Really.”
He softens, bringing your hand to his lips and kissing it gently. He gives you one of his signature smiles- something you haven’t seen in a long while- and you lean in to kiss him, a sweet and loving peck on the lips, which he doesn’t expect. When you draw back, meeting his eyes, the way they sparkle is truly something to behold.
“Denki?”
“Oh my god.”
“Are you-“
“We kissed!”
“Hah! Yeah, we did.”
“Oh my god.” He grabs your shoulders. “Are we dating?!”
“I- I think so.”
His grin widens, akin to a Cheshire Cat. He gives you a coy wink, suddenly bursting with giddiness and confidence.
“I guess we just have...a spark.”
“...Oh my god.”
“What?”
“How am I attracted to you.”
“Hey!” He pulls you close to him, rubbing your hands to make sure they’re warm. “I don’t know either,” he hums, stroking your head. “But I’m sure lucky you do.”

Stranger Than Fanfiction: Ch 4
Series Masterlist
Pairing: Dean x Reader Warnings: Like one big boy word. Criminal activity. Word count: 3,185. Chapter Summary: Staying late at work is usually nice and quiet. Usually. A/N: This chapter is so dumb but I love it a lot.
Ao3 if you prefer
Y/N would say that one of the perks of her job was getting out of the office from time to time. Sometimes a case required anything from a simple home interview to speaking to several family members over a number of days. She relished in the peace working away from inboxes and water cooler talk however, every once in a while she could find the same serenity in the uniform walls of her employment building. Today was one of those very days. Today she sat at her desk, alone, long past her colleagues' departure at five pm. The overhead lights were off and Y/N, whose fingers sped over the keyboard urgently, was lit only by the cool glow of her screen.
“It’s not super peaceful when you won’t shut up.” As much as you fought becoming complacent to the voice in all honesty you were glad to have her back in some small way. You hadn’t heard her for days now, not since you started reading Supernatural. It’s only now that you’d finished, she was back to her usual tricks. Some ridiculous ten-minute lecture about you waking up late for work was your reunion this morning. While it was true that you were very late for work today—two hours to be precise—she didn’t once mention that it was because of your late-night finishing off Swan Song.
That wasn’t too concerning. The voice ignoring your reading habits was minor in comparison to her being back at all. Her return meant your aneurysm hadn't been temporary and you were closer to one of two things. Solving the mystery of why Maggie Hall’s file was so important, or dying.
Obviously, option number one was preferable.
After an entire day of her, you have fallen completely into accepting that she's not going away anytime soon. For the most part, you have let her harp on like she’s looking for a book deal but now that you’re alone and trying to concentrate, you find yourself responding to her. For your own satisfaction of answering back.
She was feeling productive. Each word she wrote punctuated by the precise click of her fingers on the keyboard. A familiar sense of achievement swelled within her chest as she began to summarise her decision on the claim. Summaries are nothing more than detailed endings, which is why Y/N was particularly excited to be writing this one. More so than any other claim she had finished up before.
An ending was exactly what she was hoping for. The unusual situations she had found herself in over the last few days were too messy for even her to organize. Tangled up like a ball of string after being batted around by a cat. Logically then she was focusing on the only thing that made sense, tie up one loose end and the others would right themselves. Finish this piece of work and maybe she'd live.
How unfortunate then for Y/N that the universe did not look kindly upon her attempts to be orderly. How utterly unlucky that she had not guessed any of the answers correctly. Today was not fated to hold any happy endings for her. Not the closing of file twenty-four zero one, nor the reasonable explanations she had been searching for.
Your fingers stutter to a stop. What the hell does she mean you weren’t closing this claim? You are ten minutes of proofreading away from pressing submit, you had stayed late to finish. At this point, it would take an act of God himself to stop you.
That’s when you see a flash of light coming from reception. Flash is vague. A beam of light might be a better description, as in, the kind of beam emitted by a flashlight. Wait, there are two flashlights now. Oh shit.
Suddenly you taste bile in your throat and your hands are clammy enough to be sticky. The voice said this case would kill you and now you’re sitting here working late, and she’s saying you weren’t going to close it and… and… is it going to happen now? You’d assumed it was something in the file that killed you but you’d also assumed you had more time. Really, truly, this could be it. Imminent death means about to happen, not will happen when it’s convenient for you. This is it, isn’t it? You’re about to be accidentally murdered in an office robbery because you stayed to work late. On that particular file.
She was not prepared to die. Not while there still wasn’t a grey hair on her head or while she hadn’t been to the Grand Canyon. Y/N had no preparations for the end.
No. Not now. It couldn’t be.
She had no will, no funeral plans, and no video message to her family about a series of clues leading to a great treasure. And on Wednesday night, early June with spring barely making way for summer was the last possible moment she would ever expect to meet her maker.
You want to hide but it’s impossible. Hiding would require you to have some control over your body. An impossible feat, while you're listening with bated breath to what you assume, is your last paragraph.
Obviously, Y/N would not be dying tonight.
“Are you joking? How is that obvious?” You whisper into the dark, edging into frustration. Barely enjoying the relief of not dying when your narrator is toying with you.
She still had a new life to begin. One which began and ended with two men that had left as quickly as she'd met them. Fate has a perverted sense of humor and had chosen to push her forward into the unknown. This is why these important men were breaking into her office at precisely that moment.
The footsteps of the intruders get closer. You don’t have a direct view of reception but you’d seen the flashlights on account of it being dark in here. They sound like they're near reception, maybe twenty seconds from coming in. Once they’re in the main part of the office then all they’d have to do is turn a little to their left and they’d spot you. In the corner hanging out.
But it’s the guys breaking in? The cosplayers. They’re the wannabe Winchester’s who have turned to robbery to get their kicks?
You don’t know if it's actually them, not really. Not until they do take those last steps into the room but you hear them before you see them.
“Remind me why you haven't done some nerd computer thing to get this?”
“I already tried, remember? Their system says it’s still in process so none of the details are on their servers yet. And since we need to find out where the money went…”
“... we need to get the physical file. Got it.” Mystery man number one sighs before he continues, “S’no fun killing a monster if you don’t have to work for it.”
A monster? It’s almost impressive how much these guys committed to whatever insane game they're playing. Almost being the keyword. These guys were genuinely crazy, and that was coming from someone with an unexplainable voice in her head.
Y/N finally overcame the initial wave of fear that had hit her when the flashlights had cut through the darkness. She reached up and shut off the monitor on her desk, the last thing that had been lighting her up like a Christmas tree. Her laptop was still running in its dock, she had no intention of losing all her work. She only wanted to lose herself, hide, snuffing out the screen, and rolling her chair backward seemed to do the trick. She felt safer already. Her heartbeat returning to something akin to its normal steady rhythm now that she was cloaked in darkness. As soon as they were distracted she might even be able to risk slinking to the floor and hiding below her desk. It wasn’t a risk she was willing to take right now though, while they were still on high alert having just arrived.
You’re grateful that the voice is playing ball and giving you some useful information. It’s completely new, having so far only heard ominous foreshadowing and cryptic introductions, but it’s nice. Dare you say it, fun. For once in this whole ordeal, you actually feel like you’re in a story while you do exactly what she says. You sneak the smallest smile when you see their large shadows, finally step into the office. This might be where you have some luck on your side.
“You check out the desks, I’ll go find the filing cabinets.” It’s pretty hard to make out with their backs to you but you’d wager it was the taller shadow that said that.
The same bigger shadow starts walking towards the back of the office. He doesn’t know he’s heading towards the break room, although he probably thinks he has all night to figure it out. He can have all the time he wants as soon as you’re under your desk. Once you’re properly out of the way you look forward to not interrupting them as a stupid person might. You were perfectly ok with not being a hero.
Of course, she was not accustomed to the cat and mouse game of breaking and entering. Y/N was not used to dark corners and darker rooms. And since she hadn’t used one since the last time her power went out, she seemed to have forgotten how flashlights worked as well.
“What?” you splutter. Faith in the voice shattered in an instant.
In the next second, you’re blinded by a light in your eyes, you reach up to block it out but as you do his voice booms out. “Sam! We got company.”
The tall guy comes running and now there are two lights in your face.
“Do you think we could not blind me?” They start lowering their flashlights when the other shoe drops, “wait, Sam? You-you’re using the names too?” It shouldn’t shock you, they’re driving the car and wearing the flannel clearly, they’re adopting the names too. But until now you’d been able to compartmentalize the books you’d read and the men that drove around in a car with the Winchesters fictional license plate.
Coming face to face with them she feels completely different now. The territory is hers; her office, her desk, her mug with her name on. The problem; this was not her game, it was theirs. Y/N was simply working late whereas they were more adept at the after-hours version of this story. She might think they were delusional but this wasn’t the first crime she had them on the hook for. She could only imagine the hundreds, if not thousands, of other illegal activities they had gotten away with, all to play pretend.
“Nobody was supposed to be here.” The guy pretending to be Sam says to the guy who you can only imagine is pretending to be Dean.
“Well, there she is anyway.” Wannabe Dean huffs, both angry and disappointed at the same time. “But hey, maybe this can speed everything along, no more looking around in the dark at least.”
They’re both very good at talking about you while simultaneously ignoring you. Neither of them even flinch when you get up out of your chair and walk over to the light switch.
The room flooded with light like any room would when a switch is flipped, however, this wasn’t any kitchen light switch. The office is a large space and the fluorescents required to illuminate it are industrial. It’s enough to pain anyone's eyes with how sharply their pupils contract. Unless you are the one pressing the switch in the first place. It was Y/N’s hand flipping the four switches required and so her eyes were closed in preparation. However the mystery men had been seconds from bickering so they jerk their heads as if trying to escape the inescapable, like it's the first time they've ever seen anything so bright. Y/N felt wholly better with the heat on her closed eyelids. Because she knew when she opened them the office would hers again, the control would be hers.
When you dare to look they both whip their heads to you, shocked that you’ve moved. You’ve managed to find an ounce of confidence in the light, or if you believe the voice in your head, a whole gallon. “I don’t know what game you’re playing pretending to be people, first at the house and now this. I didn’t tell anyone about this,” you motion a hand at where they're standing, “clearly that was my mistake. So, uh-just get out of here and I won’t say anything else about it.”
“Sweetheart, we ain’t playing games here and we ain’t leaving.”
He steps towards you, a finger pointing to the floor to reiterate that he’s staying put. You wrongly assumed this would be as easy as it had been at Mrs. Halls when they'd run so quickly, forgetting that you'd had an audience there.
“You are if you don’t want me to call down to security. I’m sure the cops would love a case like this—there’s an eyewitness!”
Y/N would never in a million years be able to describe where the sudden anger that consumed her had come from. She was hardly an agitated person. She could be sad or sarcastic, she’d been known to give a measured but scathing comeback and some would even call her curious. That’s not to say she’d never been angry, she had, but anger was never the first thing she chose to be, or feel. It was always such a demanding emotion. So, then this agitation was almost foreign to her and the way it forced her hand, more so.
“Maybe we should…” Not Sam starts before he’s interrupted.
“No Sam. We need that file if we’re going to stop this thing and right now this is our only option.” He points at you now signaling that you are the ‘this’ part of his sentence; their only option.
In another life, she might have rolled over rather than stare down the barrel of this argument. She might have seen the opportunity to get rid of them by giving them something small, like say confidential information, and done it without question. This was not her old life, nor the old Y/N. This was the new life she hadn’t realized was starting. The funny thing was she hadn’t needed to know. All she’d needed was this man in front of her to force her into a rage and as if by magic, she had begun to transform.
You push past fake Dean to make your way back to your desk, “that’s not happening. All client information is property of First National which means it isn’t mine to give. Not to mention the fact that you didn’t say please.”
Her shoulder connects with his and it's the exact moment she realizes how close he was standing to her. He realizes the same. He’s close enough to grab her and spin her around but Y/N's body shudders tellingly with his fingers pressing into the flesh of her forearm.
“I don’t know what kind of power trip you think you're on but..." He grits through his teeth still holding you.
“Dean, can you calm down?”
The breaking point of your anger turns into a sardonic laugh aimed at him. “You too?” You pull your arm away and get back to your chair. “I can’t get normal criminals breaking in while I’m working late? It has to be two weirdos running around pretending to be the Winchesters.”
It’s clear immediately that you’ve said something neither of them was expecting. You’re sitting at your desk waiting for one of them to stop you from picking up the phone, while they don’t seem to even notice your hand is on the receiver.
“How do you know that? I mean, how do you know about us?” The tall guy that you refuse to call Sam, even in your head, asks.
Two pairs of eyes bore into you waiting for an answer and for some reason your hand goes lax on the phone. “I ran your plate from outside Mrs. Halls because you don’t work with me. And I found these books but I mean, why are you even driving around with fake plates from some books anyway?”
It was a simple question that you were hoping had a simple answer, you know, fanboys or something. Instead of any answer at all, they start having one of those lovely conversations that excludes your existence, again.
“Goddamn son of a bitch, we’ve got to get rid of those things.”
“Charlie said there’s no point now they’re online. How would we even start? Great example right here.”
“So what? We just roll over and die?”
Tall guy, not Sam, takes a reassuring step to fake Dean which means he takes a step away from you and your desk. “This might be a good thing ok, if she knows she can help us track it.”
You refuse to believe it because it’s ridiculous. Those books are works of fiction and there’s no possible way they are real. Because if the books are true then that means monsters are… nope. You live alone so there’s definitely no way. But you should clarify. Even if it’s a thousand percent the most ridiculous thing you have ever heard, you should still double-check.
“Are you trying to say that you’re actually Sam and Dean? Like, you think you’re Sam and Dean from the books?”
It’s scarily-similar-to-the-description-of-Dean who leans in with both hands flat on your desk and growls. “Honey, we don’t think okay, we are them. I’m Dean and this is Sam, and those books you decided to read? Yeah, they’re about us.”
“But that means monsters are…”
“Real. Monsters, angels, and everything between.”
She may not have known about the ticking clock already counting down the remaining seconds of her young life. She may mistakenly have thought that her newfound temper was the reason for her flushed cheeks. She did know one thing for sure. One completely life-changing fact with absolute certainty, because that fact was staring at her with more intensity than she'd ever known. A man named Dean Winchester just told her that every terrifying monster she could imagine was real.
The voice in your head, unfortunately, had not been wrong yet.
Continue to Chapter 5.

💍 Mattie and Skaar please!
@awkward-snake-girl
send me 💍 + A SHIP and i’ll tell you—
where they get married
In Vista Verde since its the proper home for Mattie and Skaar and where they met after all.
when they get married ( ie what time of day, what month and season etc. )
They get married in late April since it's the perfect weather of spring and they get married at night since it's more typical for Shadow weddings and I like the idea of Mattie and Skaar having a wedding from his people.
what traditions they include ( do they get married under a chuppah and crush a glass, garter toss, ‘something borrowed, something blue,’ etc. )
I'll post what happens in Shadow weddings in a reblog after I post this but I imagine the main ceremony itself is done like this and then afterwards they have a Earth party with their family, but the main thing is done in private as it us a bond shared only by Skaar and Mattie.
what their wedding cake looks like
I like picturing them having a cheesecake! Something chocolate and strawberry since it's their favourite flavours.
….who smashes cake into whose face
Mhm,,,,probably neither of them directly but Samuel and Rick??? Finally the telepathic bond comes in handy.
who proposed to who first
Skaar proposes to Mattie a week before she leaves for work and a part of me is saying "and before something happens to the smashers >:3"
who walks down the aisle and who waits at the altar ( or neither )
Welp there's not EXACTLY a aisle but,,,Hulk walks Mattie to the room it's happening in and gives her a small smooch on the head.
what their wedding dresses / suits / other look like
I imagine Sakaar to be rather Punjabi based if it was human so! Skaar would have looser pants or a skirt with his outfit while Mattie probably leaps on that fashion and would love to wear something similar to that degree.
what their wedding colour scheme is and what sort of decor they have
A lot of sunset colours like orange and golden browns that fade into dark blues, like the sunset changing into the darkest nights. It's an open wedding so a large table that everyone can sit around and eat while relaxing as well as a bonfire.
what flowers are in the bouquet ( if applicable. bonus: what do the flowers mean? )
They have some sunflowers since Mattie thought it would be cute and funny to have the biggest flowers for the physically biggest wedding. There's also a lot of field flowers since they both like representations of their freedoms.
what their vows are ( eg poetry, traditional, improvised etc. )
Skaar talks about how important Mattie and the family have been to him, and that he's glad he'll always be able to remember the memories he makes with them in the future.
Mattie talks about how happy she is with how her life's turned out and how she wouldn't change a thing, especially with the things she wanted to do and enjoy with a husband by her side.
if anyone’s late to the wedding
Red and Skaar are almost late due to Red wanting to have one last adventure with Skaar while he was single. A big "before you become a married man and your duties lie with your family" thing.
who’s in the bridal parties / groomsmen / other
Rick, Hulk and Lyra are Skaar's groomsmen while Jen, Red and Leader are Mattie's.
what their bridal party / groomsmen / other are wearing
The guys wear grey and Mattie decided on light blue since green...wouldn't really work for Jen and Lyra. I'm laughing at Mattie going dress shopping with Jen, Lyra and Betty though, it's awful And amazing.
who gives speeches at the reception ( bonus: what do they say? recount a sweet memory or two between them? tell an embarrassing story? )
Red and Hulk give a speech together and I absolutely think that either Lyra or Samuel give one that's super awkward but touching??
who catches the bouquet( s )
Samuel does and he gives the most ragged look as soon as anyone comments about it.
what their wedding photos are like ( are they sweet, with the couple holding hands or kissing or ~gazing into each others eyes~? are they silly, with a snapshot of the ‘cake-smash’ moment? or are they artistic, with one of them facing the sunset or holding their bouquets? )
A lot of sweet photos of them looking lovingly at each other but there's definitely a silly photo or two of Jen using the bouquet to make a flower crown on Skaar while Mattie laughs in the background. Mattie probably tries to get a shot in with at least everyone tbh.
what sort of food they have at the reception
They have a lot of sweet and picnic foods along with some ribs and meat since it's what Skaar first had on Earth and tbh I've kinda had the headcanon that Mattie needs to consume a bit more meat than most people?
who cries first during the ceremony
Hulk does and then Rick as they're the biggest saps....and then Mattie when she sees them crying and Jen passively gives out hankies to everyone.
how wild their reception gets ( who dances the best, who gets drunk first, etc. )
Mattei gets shirfaced by the end of the night and there's a LITTLE BIT of mead so everyone's suddenly arm wrestling and Rick tries to beat Hulk at Just Dance and someone ends up making a full body crater on the floor.
what their rings are like
They have something simple since wedding rings could be easily lost for them so there probably isn't that much effort and Mattie has nicer ones in a jewelry box.
what sort of favours they have ( heart shaped sparklers, mini champagne bottles, personalised candy etc. )
I'm picturing little dips of sweets like chocolate and caramel with snacks! Or like those pop cakes? Definitely little sweet treats and Red for sure sets off fireworks for the happy couple.
where they go for their honeymoon
They go to France for a week and spend some time in the wild as well as some time with Mattie's grandmother. They probably go back with her grandmother actually.
something memorable that happens during the party / ceremony ( do they run out of ice and someone goes to get it in full formal wear on foot, does anyone fall asleep in the middle of the party, etc. )
Red almost melts the cake and then that leads to Hulk tackling gin and they almost roll off a hill...its a messy event that leaves Skaar and Mattie cackling.
who officiates the ceremony
Samson!!.....I'm kidding, Skaar and Mattie do it together and Samuel does the legal paperwork for them.
what song their first dance is to
I,,,really like imagining it's kinda like,,,folklore music? You know, like that soundtrack Rapunzel and her man dance to when they reach the kingdom for the first time, no actually lyric songs tbh.
who gives who away as they walk down the aisle
Hulk walks Mattie to the room where it happens but other than that there's no walking.
#awkward-snake-girl#ask#headcanon#found in body but lost in mind (skaar)#just. gonna tag the main other character tbh

return of the blog, part 2
“...”
THE PASSING OF THE GREY COMPANY
Merry is hanging out with the tracking party, feeling a bit lost and very useless-baggage-y. What’s going to happen, Aragorn? Well, Aragorn is being very dramatic, bless him. “Do not look for mirth at the ending. It will be long, I fear, ere Théoden sits at ease again in Meduseld. Many hopes will wither in this bitter Spring.” Oh, Aragorn.
Four riders are trying to catch up to the Rohirrim; everyone is, of course, very suspicious, but it turns out the leader is Aragorn’s good old friend Halbarad, a ranger and Dunadan! And Elrond’s cool sons are with him! They brought thirty dudes to help in the war effort. Like I’m sure they’re very skilled and all but. Thirty dudes. You take what you can I guess. Apparently they received a summons from Galadriel after Gandalf was resurrected. Everyone is back at Helm’s Deep now (I missed them actually going there), mainly I mention this because there now exists a place called THE DEATH DOWN, where the huorns killed just massive amounts of people.
Theoden is holding one last feast before they all go to war; he tells Merry he shall ride with him!
‘May I?’ said Merry, surprised and delighted. ‘That would be splendid!’ He had never felt more grateful for any kindness in words. ‘I am afraid I am only in everybody’s way,’ he stammered; ‘but I should like to do anything I could, you know.’
He’s such a good kid. Theoden says he’s going to be king’s squire! Not sure why, the eve of a colossal war is not really the best time to be sparing people’s feelings of uselessness. Or maybe he’s trying to free up whoever is his current squire to kill some people? You don’t do that sort of thing for no reason is all I’m saying. Anyway, in a stupendously clear parallel to last chapter, Merry lays his sword at Theoden’s feet and swears fealty. I loove the contrast between Pippin swearing fealty to a lord he doesn’t really like out of obligation and gratitude; and then Merry swearing fealty to a lord he very much admires out of a desperation to somehow be useful. Pippin’s rather awe-filled reception at Minas Tirith contrasts with Merry’s anxieties about being a burden. Then there’s this:
‘As a father you shall be to me,’ said Merry.
‘For a little while,’ said Théoden.
AWKWARD. Merry why must you. Anyway Aragorn comes up and tells Theoden he’s going to take the Paths of the Dead (everyone in earshot shivers) despite having said a couple paragraphs ago that he would have to be REALLY DESPERATE to do that. Theoden’s company rides off; Aragorn is like “wow I love Merry so much, he’s such a good and important person.” And everyone else agrees: “hobbits are super important and I love them.” I think it’s supposed to stand in contrast to Merry’s own poor opinion of himself, but I’m not really sure why they have such a high opinion of him. Just because he’s brave? Shrug. Aragorn also says he looked into the palantir and had a staring contest with Sauron to wig him out. “I’m the heir of Elendil,” he said. “Here’s Narsil! Right here! Remember her, motherfucker?” And Sauron, reportedly, went “Oh fuck.”
Then Aragorn explains why he’s going thru the Paths of the Dead. You probably know already, so I won’t relate it here. There is a seer involved though, which is pretty cool. Some oathbreaking. Very Numenorean honestly, these dead Men of the Mountains remind me of the Faithless, in that the reason for their oathbreaking is a new unexpected allegiance to Sauron. And with that exposition, the “greay company” is off! For some reason they make it to Edoras long before Theoden does, and Aragorn comes to say hi to Eowyn.
When she heard of the battle in Helm’s Deep and the great slaughter of their foes, and of the charge of Théoden and his knights, then her eyes shone.
I see what gogol means. Eowyn is gay for Deeds. She also conceptualizes being the ruler of Edoras and sorta Rohan as “exile,” because WHY would you want to rule anything when you could be killing people??? The next time we hear a description of Eowyn it’s that “her eyes were on fire.” Why did baby ghoul relate so much to Eowyn? Up until now I thought it was because she was the only TV lady who had freckles like me, but actually maybe it was her nebulous gender dysphoria and frustration. She is SO frustrated. First she offers to ride with Aragorn on his death errand. He refuses her; she’s the ruler of the Mark. BITTER. BITTER BITTER BITTER. WHY DOES EOWYN ALWAYS GET LEFT BEHIND? IS SHE NOT A SHIELD-MAIDEN? This is a good exchange:
‘A time may come soon,’ said he, ‘when none will return. Then there will be need of valour without renown, for none shall remember the deeds that are done in the last defence of your homes. Yet the deeds will not be less valiant because they are unpraised.’
And she answered: ‘All your words are but to say: you are a woman, and your part is in the house. But when the men have died in battle and honour, you have leave to be burned in the house, for the men will need it no more.’
Get him, Eowyn. I mean, it IS essential to make sure non-combatants in Rohan stay safe and such, but Eowyn is right that she shouldn’t be forced into the unpraised deeds just because she’s a woman. Before you say such things, Aragorn, maybe start a culture of praising valiant deeds that don’t involve killing anyone?? Then we’ll talk.
Once again as Aragorn’s company rides away we get the same exact image of Eowyn standing and watching them go... this time filled with tension and anger, her fists clenched and tears in her eyes. Aragorn is sad about it. Whatever, dude. We timeskip to the entrance of the Path of the Dead, where the Dunedain are gentlly coaxing their horses in through the awful doorway. Legolas has to enchant his horse to get it to go in. Gimli is left alone outside, possibly the only one who feels so viscerally how wrong this underground passage is compared to what it should be. I think his fear is greater for the fact that he has never felt uneasy underground before; it’s like home, perverted into something dreadful. As they go forward Aragorn calls the dead. No-one answers, but Legolas can see them riding behind. As they ride through Morthond Vale I am getting the impression that there are living humans there? And they are afraid because, like, the king of the dead. Aragorn and co ride hell for leather for the Stone of Erech.
The Stone of Erech is an enormous black sphere, half buried in the ground, that for some reason was brought out of Numenor. Like... you didn’t have anything better to bring on your ships than an enormous black sphere of stone? Anyway this is the site of the oath that was broken, and now the dead are ready to fulfill it and have peace after like 3000 years. “When all this land is clean of the servants of Sauron, I will hold the oath fulfilled,” he says. Which is pretty harsh. Like, what if a hundred years from now there’s just one servant of Sauron remaining? That would just suck for everyone. Also he unfurls a banner Arwen made for him, which is apparently black on black. Love it. Very stylish. So that’s the muster of the dead. What about
THE MUSTER OF ROHAN?
This bit is confusing because I thought it was going to be Pippin POV but then as soon as they mentioned the Rohirrim had made it to Gondor it turned into Merry POV. I never have a good intuition for what things Tolkien will think it’s reasonable to skip... Wait no they didn’t make it to Gondor. They just about made it to Edoras. This is very confusing and I have poor reading comprehension. The point is Merry is sad and lonely because everyone’s speaking Rohir or whatever and he misses all his friends and absolutely everyone he knows. The party reaches Harrowdale and climbs up a super steep path for some reason; it’s lined with Pukel Men, monoliths carved into a human shape. Ahhhh I love standing stones, Heck I love standing stones. They’re from the “dark years” (when Numenor was still going on and thus Real People weren’t in Middle Earth ::P) and some unknown people made this place, Dunharrow. OH. Here’s Eowyn! The reason they’re here is because Edoras has been evacuated, and Theoden wanted to check on his people.
While Theoden and his peeps are having dinner a messenger from Gondor comes in and Merry is like BOROMIR??? WTF. But no, he just can’t tell Gondorians apart haha. Also what was the point of the beacons if Denethor was just going to send a messenger straight to Theoden. Theoden promises 6000 guys (not bad! that’s twice the entire Gondor) in one week, though the messenger says a week will probably be too late. Still, he says sarcastically, maybe you can disturb the orcs feasting on our corpses.
Merry wakes up the next day in the darkness; the sun will not rise today. Or if it does nobody will see it, because Sauron has sent a great wave of black clouds across the sky to embolden his troops. Dreamy. Theoden is releasing Merry from his service (yes, after three days, what a copout) to serve Eowyn here while she rules the noncombatant Rohirrim. Merry is. Sad. He wants to help! Even if he has to be tied to a horse! But no dice. Eowyn takes him off to arm himself anyway. Thanks Eowyn you are a true bro. As Theoden’s company leaves, they sing a song that is clearly based on Anglo Saxon epic poetry, and also I believe was not meant to be sung. So. Minus points, Johnald. It doesn’t sound like a song, it doesn’t scan like a song. It’s a nice poem, though. A nice lad called Dernhelm offers to bear Merry on his horse and hide him since Theoden won’t take him. Thanks for showing us Eowyn’s exact transition goals, it’s good.

Guerschon Yabusele is “big” time
Guerschon Yabusele was working out in the weight room at the Celtics’ practice facility last spring, rehabbing from May surgery on both his ankles. Fellow Frenchman Mathias Lessort walked by on his way to a pre-draft session with the C’s and looked at his buddy with disdain.
“They call you the Dancing Bear,” he said. “You cannot even dance.”
It’s even funnier when you think of him saying it with that French accent,” said Celtics assistant coach Micah Shrewsberry, who laughed again when reminded of the moment.
More important to the Celtics is that Yabusele, the 16th overall pick in the 2016 draft, can play. And there seems to be no question about that — just welcome amazement from his teammates.
At the mention of his name, Al Horford’s eyes grew wide and a smile washed over his face.
“That kid can play,” Horford said of the 6-foot-8, 260-pound brute who was stashed and played last year in China before a late-season and playoff cameo with the Maine Red Claws. “You look at his body and the way that he can move ... he can really shoot the ball. He has a really good feel for the game. He just has a really good feel, and he plays hard, so I just think that people are going to love him.”
What people have known of Yabusele thus far was mainly attached to the Dancing Bear nickname given him by Shrewsberry during summer league in 2016. But he won’t be some end-of-bench favorite for whom fans chant at the end of games.
Yabusele figures to be in the rotation.

Danny Amendola is ready to come back with new gear
Patriots slot receiver Danny Amendola is grateful.
He knew he had been playing with an older helmet in Week 1, when he suffered a concussion against the Chiefs, and Pats equipment manager Brenden Murphy offered the solution that Amendola needed. Murphy delivered a new, state-of-the-art helmet in time for Sunday’s victory against the Texans.
“He’s the best in the entire world,” Amendola said of Murphy. “He saved my life.”
Amendola has been diagnosed with multiple concussions during his 10-year NFL career and has recently admitted the heightened awareness to brain injuries does indeed hit home. But like so many of his peers, the 31-year-old understands the risk of playing in the league.
So Amendola has a new precaution in the hope to prevent another concussion with this technologically advanced headgear. He beamed when he showed off the new helmet, which he clearly holds with a high level of trust while acknowledging the increased comfort level.
“It’s top level, the best they make,” Amendola said. “They’re constantly making new (helmets), testing them out and trying to improve them. Mine was an older model to begin with, and I could have upgraded, so I did.”
Players don’t uniformly wear the same model helmets. Some can seek out a different type while others, like Amendola, become fortunate enough to get advice from a team trainer or even an outside voice.
From a pure football perspective, Tom Brady and the Patriots would be thrilled to deploy a healthy Amendola. He had six catches for 100 yards in the opener, missed the Week 2 victory against the Chiefs and then returned with three receptions for 48 yards against the Texans, including a pivotal 27-yard haul on third-and-18 to set up the winning score.
"I’m ready to go whenever they need me to go. Whatever I can do to help him and help the team,” Amendola said. “I just try to do my job really. That’s all I worry about.”

Patriots defense continues early season woes
The Patriots defense is woefully bad at the moment.
It’s hard to think about repeating as Super Bowl champions when you’re last in the league in points allowed, yards surrendered and passing defense.
Tom Brady is a miracle maker and can cover up plenty of warts, but let’s be real. If this unit doesn’t improve, it’s hard to see the Patriots making much noise in the postseason.
“The problem with us now, we have too many things to fix,” defensive captain/safety Devin McCourty said yesterday. “It’s a week by week thing where we need to keep getting better. Each day, it’s about coming in here and working and doing what the coaches ask us to do. Guys aren’t panicking. They’re just coming to work trying to get better. Guys are more focused on that, than stats or anything else.”
OK. So what are the most troubling issues plaguing the defense? Why can’t the Patriots get out of their own way?
Let’s start right at the top. Coach Bill Belichick and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, the resident masterminds, have been short on solutions.
If you’ve watched either of the NFL Films “Do Your Job” documentaries, both the head coach and defensive coordinator show why they’ve been smarter than the rest on many occasions. So there’s an expectation for them to fix what’s broken. Belichick, in particular, has been a master repairman over the years. The Hoodie usually makes sure he’s not taken down by any weak areas on his defense.
Only this season, he’s been exposed every week.
While injuries have contributed, particularly with linebacker Dont’a Hightower out, this level of poor play still doesn’t compute. Between blown coverages and communication issues, it’s not what you’re used to seeing from the Patriots.
