// While I'm on a rant regarding spn-related TV & lgbtq representation, allow me to say a few words about Carlos of the Winchesters... If you ask me, he's a terrible character and horrible representation of bisexuality, homosexuality, and queerness in general. First off, they say he's bisexual, letting it be known early on in the show that he's had male and female flames in the past and yet they are always quick to trump his bi-ness with only gayness instead.

Secondly, he acts like a flagrant homo stereotype i.e. rolling his eyes frequently, scoffing/sighing, swaying when he walks, generally being bitchy, obsessing over his outfits/hair/appearance/etc., giving the "shoulder", as well as annoying many other characters both deliberately and non-deliberately.

Also, given the time period the show is set in, I think it's slightly unrealistic for him to be so out about his sexuality/identity. Yes, there was the free love movement still going on then, but at the same time it still wasn't common for someone to flaunt that kind of thing (he's shown doing so even to John's mother, who, at the time, he had never met).

No offense meant to fans of Carlos, and there are good things about his character, of course, but I expected a lot better of a show from 2022, especially considering the fact that the execs had approx. 17 years to learn from the origin's (Supernatural) large lgbtq fanbase.

I know that those of us who fall into both queer and fan categories— especially those of us who are men— would prefer to see a complicated character (think Dean Winchester) for our representative. Frankly, we've been seeing queer characters of the Carlos kind for DECADES. Simply put, he is a queer character, more likely than not written by a straight person to fill a politically correct quota but severely missing the mark. One need look no further for an example than the scene in episode 9, showing Carlos weaponizing his curls through a soak in holy water...

It didn't even prove THAT useful in the fight, so it was obviously done for laughs at the gays' expense.

Or maybe the Latinos' expense.

Either way, I think he's a depressing character.
