Okay, two things: One, for this Owl AUz go watch the ordinal music video by Owl City for the song To The Sky (they did it for the Guardians of Ga'Hoole movie, and the guy turns into an Owl at the end! I think?). Two, let's make a backstory for (mutant) owl avian/harpy Reader!

• Reader, a lonely owlet, lived in a great forest kingdom once. They had a comfy hollow they lived in, fresh insects and meat brought to them to eat, a fluffy nest full of down feathers, and possibly even parents or siblings or family of some kind...

• Then, for an unknown reason, they no longer had a home. They were alone...

• They ended up snatched by the owls of St. Aegolius (owlet-nappers who brainwash them with the full moon so they're obedient, mindless slaves or soldiers or workers). Reader outwits them and ends up not moonblinked, but it takes a few moons for them to escape... but they do, barely able to fly, flapping into the fading rosy dawn, and away to wherever the wind takes them...

• They find themself unable to go any further, collapsing to an abandoned place, where mists rise from the grounds and lakes and streams, and where, in a cave betwixt two old, ancient trees, a forge lays... Coals are kept hot and safe from the elements, there are tools along the walls and stony niches, there's a pit and tongs and a few helmets... so Reader learns, with no help, how to manipulate fire, then metal...

• And that is how they become an amateur blacksmith/rogue smith, who tends to make odd figurines and charms, but can sharpen blades and make weapons if needed...

(This is just an idea! You can come up with ideas and we'll see if they can fitted, or if we can alter the story in some way! This is just an idea, mainly if Reader learns how to manipulate fire and tries to make stuff)

I absolutely adore @sugar-soda’s idea of reader being a screech owl, cause my grandmas house had a screech owl nest near it, and it was so loud. Like in the middle of the night you’d hear them calling back to each other. And since I was a imaginative kid I convinced myself they were monsters just to see this guy

so what if the x-men for a while were convinced reader was some predator based off their calls (not actually screech’s like the name suggests, more thrills that are just supper loud) till they see like the smallest owl they’ve ever met

HAHA!!! YES!!! Sorry, sorry, but, yeah... the kids think it's a monster, the adults are worried some large predators has taken up home nearby, and they all end up going out to find it and maybe scare it off-

Just to have the smallest owl avian/harpy they've ever seen trying to eat a small rodent, staring at them with a WTH expression...

(I have... decided!!! The mutants will either be... all some kind of moonborn owl, where any would suffice, some form of Bubo (ex. Great Horned, Eagle, Snowy, Long Earred) or small owl (Screech, Elf, Pygmy, Saw-whet) that isn't a strix, or some form of Tyto (Barn, Masked, Grass, Sooty, Red)...

(Also, who wants Reader to be a collector and trader of shiny objects and old books and furs and bones and stones and the like? And/or a blacksmith apprentice? Or something else? I'm up to listening to a few ideas!)

Okay, folks! What about a Legend of the Guardians; The Owls of Ga'Hoole-inspired au? Where the human and mutants are all owl avians/harpies, they live in cities and hollows and caves of the owl kingdoms, and the mutants are a rare, near extinct species (in the au, not in real life) (so, something like bubo, strix, or tyto, species and subsequent subspecies). Fun facts:

• the Pure Ones are the Brotherhood and Acolytes in this au

• the Guardians are the X-Men, and the Institute is the Great Ga'Hoole Tree

• mutants are a rare or near extinct species of owl avians/harpies, but I think a good species + subspecies would be bubo owls, strix owls, or tyto owls

• the owl kingdoms are: The Canyons (home of the brainwashing place called St. Aegolius for Orphaned Owls) (I'm on the rocks if Magento runs it or if some other villain does); the Beaks; The Silverveil Woods; Ambala Forests; and the Kingdom of (either Bubo, Strix, or Tyto, depending on which type of owls the mutants are)

• owl avians eat meat raw, but can also cook if they are a blacksmith, a collier, or someone who can use fire or coals; some foods they eat raw include: bats, rats, small birds, insects, rabbits, voles, lemmings, snakes, mice, and sometimes fish and snails, as well as nuts and berries; cooked or prepared foods include: tea, nut cookies, cooked snails and fish, barbecue bat wings, baked voles and mice, and dried crickets + centipedes, and much more...

• battle claws are sharp metal claws worn over an avian's talons that they use in battles; they are made by blacksmiths or scavenged from battlefields

• old crumbling remains of castles can be found in some places, left behind by the extinct Others (humans or some other species, because in this au, mutants and humans are all owl avians, just mutants are a rare type in this au) (not necessarily rare in real life, just rare in this au)

Meta Fun Facts:

• The book series this is based on is called Guardians of Ga'Hoole and boy oh boy was it intense. It featured the likes of: blood, gore, death, brainwashing, murder, infanticide, cannibalism, racism, and their own versions of demons from h*ck, and more...

• the movie is a lot softer than the books, but is still a bit intense

• Zack Snyder directed the Legend of the Guardians; The Owls of Ga'Hoole movie. Yes, you read that right. The guy who directed Batman v. Superman and 300 directed a movie with talking owls in helmets

Reader should be an elf owl, which is the smallest species of owl. So everyone will always see them as a kid even when fully grown. They even typically live in groups!

If not that a screech owl, because they are similarly small but also very, very LOUD!

That is a good idea! Small, tiniest owl ever Reader, who is small even as an adult or older teen, but is LOUD, loud enough to wake someone up and scare them off their perch. Screech or Elf, they're cute, they're small, amd they also have quite the big personaliy packed into their small bundle of feathers!

(But I also need the owls to be in a species group, like Bubo, Strix, Tyto, Megascops, etc. ) (it's so all the mutants aren't the same owl, but so there's also enough diversity for thr human stand-ins) (this getting complicated 😅😂)

Dark Guardians of Ga'Hoole AU with X-Men (owl or owl avian), where the mutants are all types of Barn Owls, but without the "purity" cr*p. Let me lay out a few facts for this au and for its Reader:

• All Barn Owls (Barn, Masked, Grass, Sooty, Red, etc.) are equal, no weird purity cr*p, they're all seen as mutants in the owl kingdoms, hence the two groups, The Brotherhood (of Pure Ones) and The Guardians (of Tyto)...

• The Brotherhood are a mix of St. Aggies and the Pure Ones, being a group who believe all Barn Owls should rule the world and not be hinted or shunned or killed in the owl kingdoms

• The Guardians (the X-Men) are the Guardians, who fight to help all owls, Barn Owls or not, but will protect their own if they're attacked by other owl species

• The Tyto Forest is an old home where most of them once came from, but it is very old, very ancient, and has been attacked, its owlets stolen as well as its eggs, grown owls captured or killed, and all matter of awful things...

• The Brotherhood and Guardians potentially team up, or form one group, and Reader, once one of their own (kidnapped or freely with them), leaves, now a rogue who must try to stay far away from them, lest they be captured and taken back...

• This can be dark in several different ways, but I imagine Reader had been loyal, had been friends with the teens/owlets, and was a decent fighter, if a defensive one... but it all changed, and no one knows why...

Owl avian Reader is... a Screech Owl avian!

They are small, brave, and have a skill at throwing rocks and heavy objects. They're not the best at flying, but have string legs for an avian, strong enough to clutch hammers and tongs in their talons, and strong enough to tackle someone.

They escaped the brainwashing place (the Academy for Orphaned Owls, where they moonblink owlets (a.k.a. brainwashing by sleeping under the full moon), was able to resist moonblinking, was able to fly away, and set up nest and shop in an abandoned forge in a small cave between two ancient trees in a forest full of mists and steam...

(They also learn how to mess around with coals and fire, then metals, and become become amateur blacksmith)

Guys, GUYS!!!

What about a loosely-inspired-by Guardians of Ga'Hoole AU?

(I have read the entire series, books 1-15, read the three lore/guide books, watched the movie I don't know how many times, played the DS game, and wrote my first fanfiction because of this franchise. I saw the movie first, not gonna lie, and I actually prefer the movie, not gonna lie there either. But, just, imagine: the Tyto Owls being mutants while every other animal/creature dislikes/hates them, we have Guardian X-Men, Pure One/St. Aggie's Brotherhood, and would have most of the X-Men Evolution plot mixed with the Guardians movie, and fun words/holidays from the books! Sorry, but this has me EXCITED! Heck, I might just watch the movie again for inspiration!)

(Are any of you Ga'Hoole fans? If so, any favorite characters? Any favorite owl species? Even favorite owl facts! Like owls have ears (earholes? I guess?) that aren't symmetrical on their heads. And they yarp up pellets because their gizzard takes what they can't digest and smashes it into a little bollus that they barf up)

I havent thought about guardians of ga’hoole in so long 😭 that movie was a fever dream and I kinda miss it dearly

I know, right?! It was so awesome! That got me through a rough part of my childhood, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. The movie has dynamics from Soren and his family that I enjoy, such as Kludd having a little more character, cute Eglantine, and his parents actually being more involved in the story.

Do you have any favorite Guardian of Ga'Hoole characters? What about a favorite X-Men character? Honestly, I'm not sure why I didn't think of a Guardians of Ga'Hoole AU sooner. The AU would be loosely based on the movie, but with more of the plot from X-Men. I can't wait to see the characters as owls!

(I finally learned how to open asks and such, and I'm enjoying it a lot! And to be honest, the reason I started posting here, was because I had ideas for platonic yans that I never saw others do, or if they were done, were romantically inclined, and I don't do romance. I'm happy that others are starting to get into platonic yandere Marvel stuff! Really, I am! I also started posting so I wouldn't forget my ideas, and so I could finally put them down somewhere)
