A warm wind stirs the trees. Patches of clouds drift slowly overhead, the only movement in an otherwise peaceful landscape. It’s been a while since Zuko’s been here, but time passing or not, the long, winding paths among the graves are still the same. Izumi tightens her grip on his hand as Sokka, Mai, and Azula trail not far behind.

And it’s here, just under the shade of an old willow at the edge of the cemetery lot, where the Hasegawa family grave sits: a larger stone monument nearly as tall as Zuko, with the names of the deceased elegantly engraved. There’s a sick twinge in his chest when he sees Iroh. It still doesn’t feel right. By now he knows that it never will.

Then again, he’s not sure what he’s supposed to be feeling right now. The stone beneath his hand is hard, sharp, cold— and so unlike the people he knew and loved who now rest beneath it.

Through the numbness comes a sting of guilt: he should have come to visit the grave sooner. He should’ve done more, been better—

Forgive yourself, Nephew. Again and again and again, as many times as you need to. The time will pass anyway.

The breeze kisses his face. A hand on the small of his back pulls in another presence at his side. No matter what’s going on or who else is around, there’s one person who always considers him. Worries about him. Loves him.

“Okay?” Sokka asks.

“I think so.” Zuko glances over and finds grounding, lovely blue. “I’m glad you’re here.”

Sokka smiles, a soft thing, and drops a kiss on Zuko’s shoulder. “What first?”

It's probably because these past months I have been obsessively watching past (and present) matches and understanding the atp/wta rules and tennis courts etc to be able to express informed and coherent opinions on my favourite players' game. 😂 I'm enjoying tennis so much! 🥰

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBERT!!!!!🥳 what was his favorite birthday memory with his parents? and what’s been his favorite birthday memory since giselle? 🥺

ohhhh I think his favorite birthday memory with his parents is probably when he was around 7 or 8 and his dad built him a tree house as a gift ! He would spend hours up there by himself reading and doing homework and he fell out of it once & broke his arm. Giselle was very shocked to learn he loved it so much bc he really hates getting dirty.

As for his favorite memory with Giselle, I think every birthday she's been around was great, but I think the first one stands out the most for him. Prior to meeting Giselle, I don't think he was celebrating his birthday anymore. I think he adopted a "I've had almost 30 of 'em now, they're kind of pointless for me" mentality, and because Morgan's birthday is only five days after his, he just chose to focus his time and energy on her. Morgan would still make him a card but that was the only thing he'd do to celebrate. Giselle being Giselle was Not Having That. She did promise not to do anything Too Big, but she wanted to celebrate his day somehow, she couldn't just ignore it (even though Robert was like "why not? I do??")

Robert's not a cake guy, but he does like cupcakes, so she made him vanilla cupcakes with a strawberry on top bc he loves strawberries :] and for his gifts, Giselle had never made a tie before, so she decided to make him one with his initials on the back. And then her and Morgan worked together on making a scarf. It was, of course, too hot at that point, but Robert had told her New York gets pretty cold later in the year, so they decided to give him one early.

She also made fun birthday hats that said their names on them and he got the biggest one because it was His Day and it made him laugh bc he kept thinking about how, had he been the same Robert he was before meeting Giselle, he would've never worn it, but now, he's different and happier and from the second she put it on his head, he couldn't stop smiling, and he wore it the rest of the night.

After he opened presents, they sat on the couch, with Robert in the middle, Giselle on one side, holding his hand, and Morgan on the other, cuddled into his side, his arm around her, and they watched a movie, but he couldn't even pay attention bc he was too happy thinking about how lucky he was to have his lil family, and to have Giselle around, making their lives so much better :')
