Hi! I recently reread the ACOTAR books and noticed some stuff - Feyre keeps saying how human Az looks without his shadows. In addition to being described as the prettiest of the 3 brothers by Nesta, Iβm not really surprised Elain wanted to hit that.
Lucien, on the other hand, is very fae-looking. Like, the way heβs described, he would never pass as human. I feel like thatβs one of the reasons sheβs holding back and has developed some kind of interest in Az. Especially after the way she quizzed Amren at dinner in ACOFAS.
Iβve also seen a lot of people say that SJM is keeping them apart until their own book because thereβs no way in hell they wonβt like each other once they start talking. And I agree 100% after paying more attention to them this time around. Theyβre just TOO compatible. It got me really excited about their book, so I hope itβs next. Time to leave the NC for a bit, itβs getting boring.
I'm standing here in public smiling because of your "I'm not really surprised Elain wanted to hit that" comment π
But yes to everything!
I don't think it's a coincidence that Feyre notes how human Azriel looks without his shadows and we then have repeated mentions of Az not having his shadows when he's talking to Elain. Add that into how "soft", "gentle", and polite Az acts around Elain (which is decidedly human like behavior compared to the aggressive and icy rage he seems to let out around everyone but Elain).
In ACOFAS Elain tells Feyre age doesn't want a Mate or a Male to which Feyre thinks "she wants a human man". Enter Az, without shadows, looking human and someone she doesn't have a Fae bond with.
Of course he's attractive but we know that's not really what drew Elain in. What drew her in was the fact that he sort of reminded her of what she had lost in a human man.
Elain was extremely attached to her humanity so is it any surprise that after being made she'd run from not only an extremely faerie Mating Bond (that snapped into place while she was engaged) but also an extremely Fae looking Male with long hair, pointed ears and a magic eye?
Az represents Elain still holding on to her past, Lucien represents who Elain will want when she finally accepts herself as Fae, fully shedding her humanity that she still clings to on some level (regardless of what anyone thinks about her having friends and a life in the NC).
I actually don't think Elain was asking Amren about changing because of her wanting to be human (I think she's an owl shifter) but I do agree that she's not completely healed from the loss of her human life
And definitely. Elain and Lucien are not the sort of characters to toss insults at one another (a la Nesta and Cassian). They're very wise and they think carefully on what they say. The second they really start talking it's going to be obvious to the both of them how much they really like one another as individuals and it's going to be impossible for Elain to ignore him at that point. She's going to be mad at herself for being so drawn to him (for who he is) when she's tried so hard not to be but I don't see her lashing out at Lucien, it wouldn't be in character. Which is why I think SJM created a story where they don't interact. Because it's full speed ahead the second they do and she can't have that in someone else's book.
I'm so very ready for their book too. It's sad but every day I can't help but wonder if maybe this will be the day we get confirmation! (Minus the weekends). I don't know what we're all going to do with ourselves when we have answers and all that dedicated ACOTAR brain space is finally freed up π
