"Maybe you should just go without me..." You try to hide the disappointment in your own words but it weighs them beyond the attempt. Your eyes fall and yet JJ comes up behind you, lips on your shoulder as it worsens the tightness in your heart.

"Did you get too hot on the Pogue, princess?"

"No...I..."

"Do you need some water? Here..." He offers his and your chest tightens. Not once has your boyfriend ever made you question your worth in the curves of your figure. But being surrounded by those that are a stark contrast to that society claims you should be, you feel inadequate.

"What is it sweetheart?" He asks a hand to your waist as you shuffle away without drawing immediate attention. You pretend to need something from the cooler although the diversion only makes you feel worse when you look over your shoulder and see JJ setting his hand over his chest, a telltale sign his own anxiety was getting the best of him.

"Are you...happy?" You move quickly to him.

"You make me the happiest I've been been, JJ-"

"So if you aren't dumping me and you know I'm crazy about you, why are you acting so...distant?" He steps closer, taking your hands in his. The warm comfort, slightly calloused from the odd jobs to make ends meet, it makes you exhale in the remembrance he matters more than the thoughts in your head. It's the laughter of Sarah Cameron and Kiara Carrera that make you compare yourself again.

He slowly nods before taking your hand and leading you into the Chateau.

"JJ-"

"What is it? I wanna hear you say it."

"J-"

"Y/N. Tell me." You stand in his room, the one practically gifted to you and him by John B as you linger.

"I just...don't wanna be around them in my swimsuit."

"Good."

Your eyes water and your brows fall.

"I don't want you in your swimsuit around anyone else either. I don't want them to see how smooth and beautiful your skin is or the shape of your-" he bites his back teeth. "I have to constantly remind myself to be better for you because better is what you deserve, princess, but it takes everything I have to not either mark up your skin with my teeth and leave proof you belong to me or punch out the lights of any guy-or girl- that looks at what's mine."

"JJ..." You shake off the thought as you know his kindness has always been that. Kind. You worry being with you is a novelty. A kink even. And even if he's tender and rebellious, passionate and eager, you're worried it'll fade with either summer or the fade of interest.

"You wanna know something? I am not going to say I don't care about your body because honestly it makes me hard as hell. But what really makes me just..." He sighs, repressing something between desire and the need to prove, as he takes a step closer to you.

"What really makes me love you is that you look at me. Not through me. Not to judge me. You go along with all my jokes and pranks, you were there when everything with my dad-" he paused, you step closer when you see how it effects him.

"You know when to be strong and when to let me do that for you. You touch me and I feel like I can't control my hands...or my eyes- my mouth. I want you. I love you. But if I'm being completely honest, Y/N. What I want right now? Is you out of this swimsuit. You're right. You shouldn't wear it. Because it makes me fucking crazy and I'm already one day closer for being committed for it."

You stand in awe, his words poetic for someone who insists you read him the books he gets too bored to even try and crack open. You hate how he doesn't apply himself for what he's capable of and yet you set to prove it in how you support him everyday.

"JJ-"

"I mean it, sweetheart. I'll beg if I have to. But suit. Off." You swallow hard as he closes the door and you understand one thing as his eyes darken in lust.

Before him you were swallowed by the darkness of your insecurities. Being with JJ is like being beneath the sun. Touched and basking in its rays, you forget the worries outside of it. You are kissed by the sun, loved by it- by him. You feel the strength of his love in every touch and the confirmation of his desire by the hold of his eyes on you in any distance when you aren't in his arms.

There is no question of love. And for the days you cannot feel that for yourself, JJ reminds you every reason why you will.

Jake was never the one to get sick. Out of all the members of the Dagger Squad, he was always the one to remain healthy while the others battled sniffles, sneezes, coughs and colds. Last year, when a stomach bug threatened to compromise a mission, Bradley, who seemed to always get the worst of any illness that swept through the base, had questioned him on how he managed to be the only one able to move without the room spinning. “How the fuck are you the only one not sick, Bagman? You got horseshoes up that blonde little ass of yours?” He grumbled, partially out of annoyance at being sick, and partially out of jealousy over Jake’s record of perfect attendance.

Jake had simply shrugged his shoulders and flashed his signature smirk. 

“Texas men are built different, I s’pose,” He laughed before watching as Bradley ran off to find the nearest bathroom.

That’s why when Jake merely groaned and rolled over in bed this morning when you tried to wake him up for training, you knew something was immediately wrong. His usually sunkissed, golden skin was looking gaunt and pale, his bright green eyes appearing duller and tired, and his smirk nowhere to be found, instead replaced by two dry, pink lips, resting in a thin line on his face as he tried to go back to sleep.

“I feel awful,” he whined, shaking his head as he buried his face into his pillow.

“Let me check your temperature, ok?” You frowned, watching as he reluctantly rolled onto his back, a low grunt escaping his lips as his lashes fluttered open as much as they could to look at you.

You pressed the back of your hand to his forehead. Unable to get a feel for whether or not he was burning up, you moved your hand before ducking your head down to press your lips to his skin. Your kiss was gentle and tender as you lingered on his forehead for a moment. Humming as you pulled away, you nodded your head slowly. 

“I think you have a fever, darlin’” you nodded your head, your brows knitting together as you watched Jake groan again.

“I don’t get fevers,” he said matter-of-factly, “Us Texas men are built different. We don’t get sick, ‘member?”

“I hate to break it to you, Jake, but I think you may be wrong on this one,” you chuckled as you reached over to your nightstand, pulling the drawer open. You grabbed the bottle of ibuprofen out of the nightstand, twisting the cap off and handing Jake two of the pills. You passed him his glass of water from last night and watched as he took the medication in hopes it would lower his temperature and allow him to rest comfortably.

“Do you need anything, sweetheart?” You cooed softly, stroking his blonde hair as you sat on the edge of the bed beside him.

“Just you, darlin’. And maybe to not leave the bed for a little bit,” Jake replied, a weak smile appearing on his features as he closed his eyes again. 

You pressed your lips affectionately to his forehead once again, brushing his hair back off of his face with your hand, your fingers combing through his thick honey hued locks as you fussed over him. He hummed softly as he drifted off to sleep. You curled up into bed beside him, cuddling up to him and pulling him in close to you. For all the times Jake had to care for you whenever you’d managed to get sick, you knew this time, returning the favour wouldn’t be a difficult task at all.

Buck turns around on his heel, almost falling over his long legs as the person behind him grabs him by the waist, holding him in place.

He’s a little too in his own head to register it at first, thoughts racing in a million different directions. He’s about to be late for a meeting because his stupid car won’t cooperate with him. He didn’t even know where he was when he called for a tow truck. Well, Texas, he knows that much for sure. He should’ve insisted on getting plane tickets instead of having to drive nearly 300 miles.

The client is important. More important than anything else in Buck’s career so far and he hates it. He doesn’t even like this idiotic job. His skin feels like it’s about to peel of his bones, that’s how much he’s sweating in the tight, navy blue suit that’s clinging to every inch of his body.

“You alright there, darlin’?” The man now standing in front of him says. He’s wearing a dark green t-shirt and black cargo pants, hugging his muscular thighs. Sunkissed skin is peering out from beneath his shirt, small streaks of grease traced across his arms and even a few on his cheek.

The man wipes his hands on a piece of cloth that Buck assumes once was white but now is a testament to his rugged work. Curious dark brown eyes catches his and a grin spreads across his face, almost pearly white teeth appear beneath pink, plush lips.

His beauty catches Buck a little off guard and he glances down his own body, only to realize that his suit now has specks of grease everywhere.

Exactly what I needed today.

Long fingers make it through tussled brown hair and the man, he can only assume that it’s the owner of the auto shop, is looking at him with a smile that speaks for itself.

Buck takes a deep breath before he rubs his wrists, titling his head a little.

How long is too long to not reply to someone talking to you? Especially when they look like that.

“What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue?” The man chuckles, clearly amused by Buck’s expression.

And apparently this man is psychic too because Buck has suddenly lost the ability to fucking speak. When he finally does, the words pour out of him like a waterfall. And he doesn’t know why.

“I-… yes. I’ve been driving for the past three hours and I have no idea where the hell I am. And I’m about to be late for the most important meeting of my life all because my car is a piece of shit that apparently hates me. And to make things even better, it’s hotter than hell here and I have to be in a suit. I don’t even like suits” Buck takes a deep breath, not knowing why he just put all of that on a stranger.

He frowns, as if surprised by his own words, not even realizing that half of them came out the way that they did.

The mechanic, now with less grease on his hands, places them on Buck’s shoulders, giving them a gentle squeeze. And Buck doesn’t even mind. A drop dead creature of a man is touching him, somehow soothing him with his firm hands. Normally he wouldn’t accept strangers just touching him but those brown eyes draw him in, even making him chuckle lightly too.

“Okay, darlin’. Why don’t you start by telling me your name? And you should probably take this off” Fingertips make their way to the collar of Buck’s blazer, making the hairs on the back of his neck stand up and he swallows dryly.

Meeting? What meeting?

Buck blinks, mouth falling slightly agape as calloused fingertips brush against his warm skin. “I’m Buck. Do you ask all your customers to get undressed?” He asks, feeling a surge of confidence and… something else rushing throughout his body.

“Buck” The mechanic looks like he’s almost tasting how the word feels on his tongue and he nods slightly, clearly enjoying it a little too much. “I’m Eddie” He introduces himself as he pulls his hands away from Buck’s blazer, shifting his weight from one foot to another before he folds his arms across his chest.

Big, sweaty muscles make their appearance known underneath his shirt and Buck wants nothing more to just sink in his teeth in them, to trace the length of his di-…delts, definitely delts. Nothing else.

“And no, not at all of them, only the attractive ones” A smirk spread across Eddie’s face, clearly proud of his enticing behavior. “Now, Buck, where were we? Something about your car being a piece of shit, huh?” Eddie brushes his fingertips across his upper arm, drawing attention to his tattoo that hides just below the sleeve of his shirt.

He turns around, quick strides taking him to Buck’s car and before Buck has a chance to react, Eddie is inside. The car. Not him. Although the latter sounds much better right now. Or actually, it just sounds much better. Period.
