Event: Guilt-Ridden
While you were doing whatever in a tall building, you noticed Kiibo ascending the stairs, stopping for a second and solemnly sighing before continuing his climb. Akari follows behind with a concerned expression. Even just seeing this at base level, it seemed like something bad- really bad- was about to happen.
What do you do?

Oops I realised I replied to chapter 10 before 9, I knew I was missing something lol.
Ahhh bless you, you are really spoiling me with these wonderful comments 😭❤️
Okay let's deal with the aftermath of what happened last chapter, I'm ready!
Week in, week out he’d forced himself to remember all of the collateral damage that had stacked up at his fingertips. He couldn’t afford to be complacent about the pain he’d caused already, and yet here he was all too willing to inflict more.
Carrillo's introspection after what happened with the kids is so beautifully written, the way he does know he lost control and there are some lines that shouldn't be crossed. He knows that killing him wouldn't have changed a damn thing in the overall war. I love love love this
Ahhh I LOVED writing this scene, so I'm so happy you picked this out 😭❤️ Guilt ridden!Horacio is one of my favourites to write, especially because it seems likely he grew up Catholic. And you don't do all the things he's done and not get to carry around a truckload of guilt lol.
And yep, I think this version of him is self-aware enough to realise how utterly pointless a lot of the deaths are by this stage, especially a child's death 😔
One glaring difference this time, though, was Javier wasn’t there for sex.
When I read the warnings to this chapter I was a little confused as to how would sex work first into the chapter given that I didn't think Javi would go to have sex when he's in a sort of relationship with Carrillo. It's nice to see that instead, he went there to talk with Gabriela and that it did help him
Oof no I wasn't gonna have him cheat on Horacio...but I also didn't want to erase Gabriela, especially because she becomes relevant later on re: Maritza. And I think it's clear from the show Gabriela isn't just someone he pays for sex...he seems to trust her and their conversation afterwards feels quite intimate, so I figured she'd be a good neutral party for him to talk to. Plus, her words of wisdom *may* become relevant at a later date, but again, ssshhh you didn't hear that from me 👀
And there was already enough violence surrounding them in Colombia as it was. He didn’t want to associate those words with all of this.
I need these two to get out of Colombia, or at least out of the warzone, and go take a break on a farm or in a cabin in the middle of nowhere where they can get rest and only focus on themselves and on their relationship and on being happy
!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SAYING NOTHING for reasons which will later become clear 🤐🤐🤐
“Even after tonight?” Horacio couldn’t hide the desperation in his whisper against Javier’s mouth, almost afraid of the answer.
He doesn't want to lose him 😭
No and I think there was a part of him that felt like he deserved to after what happened 😩💔
Given the stakes involved, they weren’t so much as playing with fire but dancing with the devil. It never stopped them, though. And that’s when it hit him. On the cusp of sleep, with Horacio secured against his body, Javier realised there was only one thing that ever could.
The way you worked in the chapter title between this paragraph and the Lorraine segment was beautifully done!
Aww thank you so much, I'm so glad you liked that part ❤️ I think the 'Until death do us part' thing was one of those random moments of inspiration that just hits out of nowhere and you're not quite sure how you did it but you're glad you did 😂 It also acts as a slight bit of foreshadowing for the events of the next chapter as well 👀
Thank you once again for your wonderfully insightful comments on this fic, it's made my week 🥰❤️
Narcos Fic: Old Habits Die Hard (Chap. 9)
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6, Chapter 7, Chapter 8, Chapter 10, Chapter 11, Chapter 12, Chapter 13, Chapter 14, Chapter 15
Masterlist
Pairing: Javier Peña x Horacio Carrillo
Words: 5,584
Summary: In the aftermath of chapter 8, Steve is on the warpath, Javier seeks advice from an old acquaintance and he and Horacio have a much-needed heart-to-heart.
Warnings: 18+ ONLY. Discussions of canon-typical violence, PTSD symptoms (nightmares and flashbacks), brief mentions of sex work, brief mentions of parental loss, alcohol, smoking, swearing, some angst but with a generous side order of fluff and all the feelings (because when is it not about all the feelings with these two?).
Notes: Apologies this was finished a lot later than I intended, but life has been busy over the last month, so I haven’t had as much time as I’d like for writing. BUT, chapter 10 basically just needs editing now, so that should hopefully be posted soon. We’re getting there, slowly but surely 😉 Huge thank you to anyone still reading, it’s greatly appreciated. As always, please feel free to chat to me about any of it either on AO3 or Tumblr!
